Sorry this one took awhile to get out. I know this is more commentary than guide content, but I figured I could provide a different perspective to a common issue in the community. FGO always seems to go through periods of boom and bust, and it's important to have context for it all. How do you guys feel about FGO nowadays? Do you think it's fine like it is or do you feel it could be doing more? Either way thank you all for taking the time to watch! I hope you enjoyed, and if you like this sort of content out of me, let me know if you'd like to see more! Have a good one! 👍

I may need to give it more time to form a coherent deep thought but just out of the top of my head I find it frustrating in a way that you can't really interact with other masters. That has always been odd.
Also since the only actual gameplay you can do is standard battle that costs AP that runs out after 3 potential engages, once that is done you get this weird feeling of "ok now what? Nothing for 8 hours". The Game is not meant to be played at lenght, yes, but that is mostly your only option besides reading updated profiles after bond 6.

Hi there, what is your exact definition of downtime? What is the community's definition of downtime?
To contrast with my definition potentially, I expected this year in NA to be relatively lax based on the community's reaction to it 2 years ago on the JP side.
However, I feel that I have been far busier this year so far, that's including the 3 week events rather than 2 week events. The main reason for that in the events being that I plan out the materials I need from each one, including statistical based drops from the free quests, on characters I'd like to shoot for in the rest of the year.
I think then to define downtime for me; if there's no goal, then there's no reason for me to play the game. I always have a goal (having materials ready for the next release of characters), so I never have downtime.

My 4 gripes with FGO are these things:
    1. End game content. Give me a replayable boss so that I can try my new units out. A rouge like feature where I am forced to play other servants and it would force me to build other servants.
    2. Easy Farming. Both of quartz and materials. Material drops should not be gatcha, too.
    3. Better rates. Please make a better pity system and a better gatca in general. Not every servant should be limited.
    4. UI update. It needs to be done. Please update the UI.
Other than this I still like FGO. For me the story is still good. Servants are wonderful. The custmization of servants is something that makes me enjoy the game so much. TBH I drop some gatcha games already, even spent alot of cash on them. But FGO and AK are the two games that I could not drop. So here's for a better FGO.

As long as the story stays at good as it has been I’ll keep playing. Honestly don’t really need anything else. I’ve been playing since the start of the NA version and FGO is the only game that has kept me fully invested for more than 3 years and the only game where I’ll literally put down all my console games just to experience more of the story. I also greatly appreciate the downtime and the fact that there is no PvP driving a rapid power creep of units. Generally, I’m happy FGO isn’t like most other gacha games and I don’t want it to change beyond basic QOL features.

I think FGO's biggest strength: the story is what is so heavily lacking right now.
NA is on the same stall campaign to Lostbelt 7 that JP players hated.
And JP feels like it's on a filler arc to milk Arc 2 as much as possible before Nasu leaves.
The pace of story content has gotten slower and slower, and they seem to be able unable to replace the staff that left despite making boatloads of money.
There has been serious lack of QoL updates, Animation updates, UI updates, and the new player experience has been terrible.
I feel that Sony/Aniplex is siphoning money from the game instead of reinvesting into it.

    • @abrahammesrajecorrea2349
      @abrahammesrajecorrea2349 Месяц назад +2

This has been my main grip as well. The current story pace is a joke. We've been 6 years well into part 2 and it just never ends. Even when we had 4 years or so dealing with all the losbelts... and just when we were about to finally reach the endgame in Antartica after Mictlan... Ordeal Call arrives in time like the Bleach fillers in the original anime's airing prior to any important moment.
Paper moon deserves the title of being refered to as Ordeal Stall. Id, on the other hand, was good... but the fact they have to relay on taking away more friends from us as a tactic to keep player interest engaged feels like a slap to the face personally.
However, if I said that in the grandorder subreddit, I'd be downvoted to oblivion again. And all I ask is for the story to finally wrap up part 2. Not to finish it just like that, poorly... but if they keep building up the same and the same for 6 years and still nothing, I feel there's a problem in the writing room, no matter how fire the story is.
It feels like Nasu, Type Moon and Lasangle doesn't have plans for a part 3 FGO. And that's totally fine... if only they just admitted that instead of extending Part 2 as much as possible and fans being ok with it

"Missing the forest for the trees" I think is a great way to metaphorically summarize the unfair (emphasis, UNFAIR) criticisms against FGO. FGO is not like other gachas, and I agree it shouldn't try to be like other gachas. Like you point out: FGO is a story & character driven visual novel strategy game; and FGO is OLD. Expecting a 9-going-on-10 year old Gacha game to be "like (insert other gacha here) and do what they do" isn't the point. FGO isn't LIKE those other gacha's
Are there improvements and QoL's that can be made? Of course, no game is perfect. But to say FGO should be like Genshin, HSR, Wuthering Waves, Blue Archive, etc. when those games at their core are a fundamentally different style of gacha isn't going to "fix FGO"

Star Rail is a fair comparison, I’d say. Turn based content, story based. It’s like what FGO could be if it was made in 2023. FGO is getting too old to compete and is relying more heavily on older player retention every year.

I recently picked up Honkai Star Rail and the thing that impressed me the most was not really in game, but their marketing. Like when a brand new unit is about to come out, they announced it like weeks in advance and even dropped a hype ass music video trailer to promote them. They release a one hour video in the 4 main language to introduce the characters and talk about their gameplay. And I'm like, "wtf why can't we have that?", when FGO announced a servant we get a 10 second long NP video, and if we're lucky, a 15 second long teaser trailer of the event they're appearing in.

Yes and no, I mean, we're given a lot more free gacha currency than most other games like Genshin, and even their kinder successor Honkai sr, the pity is not functional, though saving over time is not really that undoable, and we are constantly given more currency in several forms which makes it more sustainable than most other gachas. Not to mention the fact that servants are completely usable after one copy. Meanwhile, you have other games that require you to get several copies to unlock different core abilities and levels, I'd regard that as fundamentally worse. As someone who just plays casually, and only spend on gssr, I find the gacha system to function decently well, and I do prefer it to most competitors

    • @Ninjastoned
      @Ninjastoned Месяц назад +8

I don't agree when FGO releases or reruns 5-6 times the banners in the same time frame something like HSR. Abundance of currency only goes so far if you have the availability to guarantee what you want. I'm saying a 300 pity isn't equivalent to even the amount of average currency we are given compared to the amount of banners we run on the average. People will save half a year and still not get what they want. I can save for like 1-2 months for a character in HSR and absolutely guarantee the new character I want.
Also having a full kit in FGO is for the most part true in the past. But most Arts and Quick farming units need at least NP2-3 to do anything your actually want them to do.
Also I do play both casually and FGO is the only one I will actually spend any money on because of the GSSR because it's the only time spending anything is worth anyone's time or money.
That's not to say FGO doesn't do things better. Characters, Story, Lore, Welfares are all easily a huge boost.
At the end of the day ask yourself if it wasn't Fate related would you even bother
Problems I have with FGO are Pity, building brand new units because of brand new mats, jank kit design for beloved characters from time to time, and general quality of life elements.

    Many things need to improve:
    - Performance, actually. How can a 2D game with very limited 3D animation run worse than Blue Archive or even Dislyte (which are full to almost full 3D, aside from story content of course)
    - Farming - It takes far too long to even get mats. Some take over 200 AP on average PER PIECE. That is sometimes 5 rounds, each one takes roughly 3 minutes per round (in optimal conditions). So you can *sometimes* take 15 minutes to get one mat. This is harsh, if you consider that you sometimes need over 50 pieces for some mats to optimally raise a servant (and that is only for one specific material).
    - Banner-System. Other games do this better. Even the Genshin Weapon Banner that is famous for being a cash grab has more value for your money than any FGO-Banner. How is there still no 90-Pity? At least make Pity carry over. That is the most basic feature that even the most greedy Gachagames have.
    - Bond-Levels need improvement. It takes ages to even level up from 5 to 6. Make it worth our time!
    - Maybe some new 3* characters might not be bad, especially Extra Class.
    - Improving the Card-Enhancement-System. What is it even for? It is never really stated how much improvement is actually happening. Give me some stats!
    - Improve Craft Essence enhancement. Enhancing Craft Essences to Lvl 50 is enough of a barrier already. It takes an extreme amount of exp to do so.

But now I finally decided to quit after LB7.
Is it because FGO is not 3D like other games? No
Is it because QoL are near non existent? No
Is it because of bad pity or gacha rates? No
Is it because there is 0 gameplay innovation or new game modes? No
Is it because of the endless and mindless factory-worker farming? No
All of these are quite bad and atrocious in their own right (except the 3D one), but what finally broke me was the excruciatingly slow story schedule. It didn't use to be like this. Remember when Babylonia AND Solomon came out in the same month? Remember how all of EoR stared and finished within the same year? Remember how every 4-6 months we got a big LB chapter? Now ordeal call 2 needed nearly a whole year to come out. Every year FGO schedule is slowing down more and more, and it wants you to login every single day and farm in the meantime. I am very hyped for LB7, but this "Road to LB7" stall is slowly killing my hype. 1.5 years just to get to the next LB is unacceptable. And what comes after that? Even more stalling. Ordeal Call is here to drag the story another 2-3 years with chapters that are nowhere near as exciting as the LB chapters. And what comes after? Part 3? That's gonna need another 7 years to finish at this rate. So overall another 10+ years for part 3 to finish? This game will not last that long, because every time a new game comes out we are losing players and we get no new ones. It's normal for a live-service game to lose players over time but what's NOT normal for a healthy game is to get near 0 new players. The only way to remedy this is to try and keep the current players by bringing QoL, auto-farm, new game modes, better UI and other features (NOT 3D OR UNREALISTIC CHANGES) but we are all painfully aware it's not happening because either the devs are incompetent or the managers suck all the money out of this game. Or both.
Thank you FGO for everything, but right now you are a ship that is slowing down and at the same time sinking at an extremely slow rate, and I don't wanna be here.

What i noticed is that people who are really hard on objects is that they blindly don't believe that there are little to no new players joining the game or really get far enough to the game.
Yes fgo can survive with whales and committed players but for how long? These kind of players are old players and surely there will be a time when they withers or lose interest. Not now but surely, little by little old players are going away. This is the problem. If there are no new players and players who stay. The game will end up dead. Again. It's a slow process, but it will come. It's like the game is bleeding slowly.
So obviously, there needs to be a change.
What im saying is just from my experience, most of my friends list are new players and i notice the decline since most of them do end up quiting cuz they are like a month inactive.

Yeah a lot of people just roll with a narcissist zoomer mindset of "I enjoy it therefore it's great and there's nothing to worry about." They do not think with a business mindset.
A business mindset thinks in terms of always improving to keep up with competition, and focuses on how to attract new players. Stagnancy kills products. Right now, FGO has basically nothing to offer new players, which is why they're going to Genshin, Honkai, Wuthering, and soon Promilia, etc.
And I also have massive dropoffs on my friend list. Some people that were around for many, many years. They'll just stop logging one day. This always happened on occasion, but it's pretty common now to check my list after some time and be like "Whoa, 35 days offline?"

But i missed multiple rotations of the endgame content rewards of R:1999 and HSR as a day 1 player.
Missing out on past servants and CEs (which even then FGO is adding back slowly) when joining 5 years late is one thing. Missing out on content and rewards as a Day 1 player is something else.

It would be interesting if they tried to do a full pivot into an FGO2. It's tricky because NA is time delayed, but I think there is a way to do it. Say they wanted to end the game after the Lost Belt saga concludes, and pivot into a whole new FGO game that would continue or at least bounce off of that ending. First, you speed up NA a bit, so that it ends about a year or less after JP, rather than two years behind. Second, you launch FGO2 in a way that it's unclear how FGO1 ended, perhaps following a different team of characters dealing with an entirely new and mysterious world state, a little bit like Epic of Remnant worked. Third, you make it so that while progression does not carry over from FGO to FGO2, there would be _rewards_ in FGO2 based on the progress you made in FGO1, you would get extra free characters, weapons, whatever cool unlocks they could reasonably provide, and these rewards would be promised in advance as "first anniversary" rewards, which is when FGO2's storyline fully intersects with FGO1's ending.
So in this way, NA players could start FGO2 on day one, and not be spoiled, and JP players would enjoy it too, and then when NA FGO ends, there would shortly after be the anniversary for FGO2, in which everyone gets their big bonuses based on how much FGO1 stuff they did, and the stories come together.

I like the Evocation Festival system and the old welfare CEs being put in the mana prism shop, but there's no in-game way to know the event they came from without being there for their initial run or re-runs. Honestly main gripes I have tend to be with how the game is handled. More re-runs, a pc client, less of a buffer with NA and JP, maybe add a single free story banner roll a day as a daily quest (I.e defeat 5 enemies get 1 roll). Overall just give me a reason to stick on that doesn’t have to do with grinding the events. I finally caught up to the story around Tunguska after playing for over 2 years, and now what I don’t feel is burn-out but rather boredom from wanting to do more but not being able to. I want to play some of the year 1 events, to get chances to use servants I have but are hard to make use of, but I can’t. Not only that, but there are so many small details early in the story I want to re-experience without the shitty story reader in ‘my room’
And this will be debatable, but I think starting development on an ‘fgo 2’ is not a bad thing. Just don’t make it a gacha or a direct continuation, just another live-service game. Maybe like a small-scale mmo or adventure game that doesn’t act as direct competition. Something to run aside fgo instead of to overtake it

Personally I keep coming back to this game because of the story and its characters. It feels like a really good storybook to me that just so happens to have a game bundled in with it, with the added bonus of me being able to interact with the characters (bond missions, my room conversations, etc.)

While FGO could certainly use some major QoL in areas, as long as the story remains high quality I will be mostly satisfied. No other live service game has a story that has gripped me like FGO. So many incredible moments and beloved characters that I will never forget. I think the same can be said for the wider FGO community, while we wish the game had better production values and stuff like auto-battle, more fluid menus, etc, at the end of the day most of us are here for Nasu's writing.
What I do wish is that Aniplex and Type Moon would try more to capitalize on the success of FGO by investing in high quality console games like CyGames has done with Granblue. I would absolutely kill for a tag team fighting game with a Fate roster or a multiplayer action RPG like Granblue Relink. Instead all we've gotten in nearly a decade of FGO being a cultural juggernaut is a few medicore musou games and Mashu in Melty Blood. It really seems like such a missed opportunity.
Also, my other main gripe: its been 9 years, give us Summer Medusa already!

Have been playing for 2 years I want to share my experience:
I never watch any of the Fate animes but I found an AMV of FGO, the music was the 2nd opening for Cosmos in the lostbelt and the animation was a mixture of multiple adds of fgo with the 5 year anniversary. I must have listen to that AMV 1000 times, and it just sold me to want to play the game.
Problem 1- I live in Costa Rica, FGO is not sold here. I had to use a VPN to connect to the google store from Canada(It didn't wanted to work with US for some reason) in order to just download it.
As you can see I am fluent in English but I want to address another problem that the game has; No Spanish, it is also not available in many many other countries and regions.
after downloading it I played it infrequently, I logged in every single day and to this day I havent lost my streak, but at the beginning, I didn't do much other than maybe an arrow or 2 for Singularity F and some days even nothing other than cashing the log in bonus. It took me 2 weeks to beat Singularity F. My thought on this period was that as long as I played a little bit here and there it should be fine, that the game wanted you not to just play it all at once.
With this in mind I want to say Problem 3- Fuyuki is a terrible tutorial. Its too long for what it tries to do mechanically and doesn't do it very well, obviously it needs to set up the story but it is hard to pay attention to it when one does what I did here. I played the following singularies much faster and despite its flaws I think Orleans was a much better introduction to the game that people give it credit for.
I skipped completely on side-events at the beginning, my first one was the renewal event of Christmas 5, and after that the one with Santa Karna, I wanted to do Van Gogh's event but it was locked, at that moment I was in the middle of Camelot but y this point I was already hooked on the game. which goes to the next point: There are many events I still want to play, why are they locked still. I understand the spoiler aspect of Imaginary Scramble but Im way past that point now, why vault it for so long, and this is obviously not including all the Christmas events, the valentines and others. I want to play them and read them, why not just have them inaccessible for a year and then enable them for purchase with gold prism. it sucks.
I wrote more than what I wanted to put but I think improvements for the game need to be seen on 2 different aspects
Improvements for new players and improvements for veterans
I think I FGO wants to expand they need to open localization, why no support for so many countries in the world for so little languages. And contentwise they should re-do Singularities 1-5
It is not a meme that the game begins when you face Gawain, It should be more challenging for new players when they face bosses on any of the other singularies instead of just grabbing a random friendly 120 lvl Morgan and stump over the beginning of the game.
But again, this wouldn't affect me, nor I think anyone looking at this video, if they redo the challenges and rewrite the entire first 5 sections of the game It would be just extra content but for a new player it would mean a lot.

I'm glad to see similar sentiments in this comment section. FGO is STORY FIRST and gameplay secondary. 👑
    -
Having deep established characters that come from real world stories works extremely well in its favor as well. It doesn't NEED to look like Genshin or Honkai or any of these other new gachas. The story and lore are deeper than any other Gacha game out there and it should be treated as a Visual Novel with gameplay in-between story beats because that's what it is. Many Gacha's have come and gone but FGO remains strong due to their lore, characters, and storylines. Sure, the entry barrier is higher because it's essentially a turn-based card game but my goodness it's such a rich community and world. It would take a massive overhaul to turn it into FGO Arcade considering how much content they have now.
    -
Ultimately it would be fine either way whether they try to change it or leave it as is imo.

Also to people who think that FGO isn't still making crazy profits are forgetting that Hoyoverse has about 10 times the costs of the FGO team. They have about 10 times the staff, 10 times the servers and spend 10 times more on marketing so Hoyoverse in terms of pure profit are not making as much as you think they are in comparison to FGO. For those interested, the whole “FGO 2” thing is happening right now with the Madoka franchise. Magia Record, a VN-styled game based heavily on FGO, is ending after 7 years and their reason is that they are replacing it with a new game, which looks to be more like modern gachas at least gameplay-wise and graphically. If the new game pops off, you might start seeing people use it as an example for FGO to follow.

How do you like this improvement, adding a rotation of weekly old bosses. Otherwise I go into the game and can’t even use my units normally in difficult content. Add an alternative to boring farming where you just press the same buttons over and over again. For example, a difficult boss but with a great reward. We need some choice of difficulty, I'm tired of beating mobs that even theoretically can't defeat me. And most importantly, don't do challenge quests with Castoria in mind, she's too strong

I have played other gacha games and FGO is the only one I stick with long-term. There's more than one reason for it, but I think the key one is the fact that FGO generally respects my time. All the other gachas have so much more daily grind.
And even though the gacha is brutal, I don't feel like a walking cash cow because the game doesn't try to sell me a bajillion different currencies or material packs. It's the gacha, you buy saint quartz or don't, and the shop is tastefully hidden instead of being shoved at your face every opportunity.

My main highlight for the game is honestly the community. Being able to make friends and talk about the game is the main reason why i stuck with the game for the past ~7 years. Unfortunately ive met some bad apples but thats a thing with any long running community.
Only gripes about the game arent even about the game itself but moreso on the peripheral stuff. As a game, i think FGOs pretty solid and if theres an itch that it just cant scratch, id just hop on another game on the side.

    1. Better Translation.
    2. Rework of the pity system. Around 300SQ
    3. Reworking of some event systems:
    • Remove time gated nodes
    • Alter some of the requirements to access event nodes.
    • Ladder rewards should be reduced from 3M to 1.5M, Max 2M
    • Mission Event requirements edited to be shorten since repeating the node 10+ to do 60-80 enemy kills is annoying.
    4. Free Event CEs to be available on the Mana Prism store.
    5. Gacha Event CE's to be available in the Rare Prism store.
    6. Rework the weekly and daily rewards.

    1) updated home menu with L2d servants in the baclground. maybe bond 10 reward to make bond 10 more rewarding.
    2) better rate up. maybe a chance of 5* for each 100 rolls that can carry over. I don't care if it's 50/50 of getting the rate up 'cause I don't even own all of the perma SSRs.

The gameplay is something I actually enjoy, especially some of the more challenging fights. Stuff like servant coins, servant strengthenings, animation and sprite updates, story replay, user interface.
User interface first and foremost probably, everything is split in multiple screens, and full of repeating animations. A lot can be done to condense it and make it look and feel better to use.

One of the biggest problems for NA players is the two-year delay in relation to the JP server. The people of NA are tired of playing with spoilers and having to wait so long to access new content or even be able to play with new servants.
Several games have fixed this delay issue between servers. Why does only FGO NA seem not to care about this?
For example: as an NA player, why would I invest resources or spend money on some servant if I already know that he will receive a powercreep in 6 months, 1 year?
Someone could say that to solve this, just start in JP, but that doesn't seem like a good alternative, because obviously we in NA don't want to abandon our accounts builted with so much time and effort.

First of all, great vid. You really helped me to evaluate not only my critiques of the game but also my relationship with the game as well.
Frankly, I don't think I even hold any critiques for the game now because they just no longer apply to the type of player I've become. I skip all story content, so the game's release schedule hasn't affected me negatively. New characters and their kits don't concern me because I essentially have everything I need to reliably tackle all content in the game. And in that same vein, however many SQs we do or don't get doesn't negatively impact my experience either because we do have a pity now. It's not great, but I have been able to reliably get the characters I've wanted without spending ever since its implementation (and I have hit hard pity multiple times).
With that being said, why do I still play the game?
It's the battle system. I'm not a CQ enthusiast -- far from it in fact -- but I really do enjoy clearing 90+/++ content and the way in which the game has us approach 3 wave content in general. I love lottos and they're not something that I would heavily modify either despite having already met my account progression goals. If I had any gripes with the battle system at all, I don't think that I'd still be playing this game after 6.5 years because it's essentially the only thing I engage with.
And so... that's really it. I've realized that anything I've complained about in the past has been about aspects of the game that just don't affect my core gameplay experience. The battle system is everything I need it to be, so by extension FGO is as well. I do hope that everyone else's criticisms are heard however. Improvements can always be made!

Some of the major problems with FGO to me is the grinding.
Farming quests is so time consuming, which was why lottery events are so helpful. But there's still that problem of having to do the same quest a million times.
Instead of incorporating interesting ways to make the quests challenging, they just forbid double of the same servant or outright not allow you to use a certain servant.
I do recall that skipping quests is not in their vision and certain aspects of the game can't be added due to legal reasons.
FGO is an older game that's hard to improve on.
I would like FGO to be able to bind using email, add full voicelines, and make the game have a desktop client so people can play with a computer and not an emulator.
(I suspect they don't do this because it will look grainy and awful when the game is enlarged.)
Aside from gameplay, the lore is rather hard to follow unless you know Fate in general. Jumping into the game without prior knowledge is a can of worms.
The events are problematic also. They make it so goofy at times you can't take anything seriously.
The game is nearly a decade old now and there's major problems that are never addressed because the genuine criticism is never voiced in mass.
We receive 3 SQ and reply "thank you sir".

Honestly, as someone who plays very on and off over the years, the only things I can think of that the game needs are 2 things. 1. A PC client/is able to have an account on more than one device. It is incredibly frustrating to think of getting back into the game only to remember if I wanna play it on my PC I have to get an emulator and either start fresh or transfer it over and hope I'll be able to transfer it back should I need to transfer it back to my phone for either a trip or my pc breaks etc. 2. Designated missions for farming materials, not side missions from the story, I mean places similar to where we get embers for XP so we can stock pile for future characters. I haven't played enough recently to have a strong opinion on any of its other systems, but these are the ones that still stuck out to me all these months later. Great video either way!

As someone that played a few other gachas, these are my main gripes with it.
    1. Gacha system. Even though the current meta kind of wants you to have NP2/3 SSRs, you are not locked out of parts of servant kit like in many other gachas.
But, I know that 900 SQ pity is far too much for F2P. I had the chance to get Castoria twice, and I didn't summon her even though both times I used around 500 SQ. Which is ridiculous. Not to even mention Myst's Oberon saga.
Now I am skipping entire summer, to guarantee her.
    2. This kind of goes against playing games, but no auto clear. The level of grind in this game is kind of nuts. I'd rather have fun CQs to try some servants I do not use often, rather than wasting my time away doing the same battle the same way over and over again.
    3. Story replay. Just let me experience entire nodes with the enemies as well. Not just the story itself.
And that's basically it, sure it would be easier to not have a million different mats and all of that, but I can get behind it.

Every time people discuss whether they should develop a FGO 2 closer to Genshin or Honkai Star Rail, I say no. There's a good reason for this, and it's that I don't believe them to produce a 3D open world game, or a 3D turn-base combat to the same level of quality as those two.
Frankly, I have zero faith in Lasengle and Aniplex producing such a sequel. Looking at how little Aniplex seem to want to re-invest into Lasengle, and how Lasengle can't capture dev talent with their small wages, I have no hope for a good launch, or continued development.
FGO Arcade had, frankly, horrible models so their 3D artists, who are now possibly gone due to EOS of that game, wouldn't be able to provide a good basis for such a project. Not only that, we have 400 Servants, most of them would just be re-used for fanservice in a new game in its early year, without rhyme or reason to add them into the story.
Other titles on the IP were delegated to 3rd party companies. So not much hope there for a live service.
Unless something major changes with the company, FGO is the only game you'll be saddled with until an EOS announcement.
The fact that Part 2 is taking so long shows the devs have no clue where the story should go next. So it might just be the end.

dead weeks shouldn't exist in NA. They should be using those to catch up to Jp.
Anyways I prefer fgo over newer app games. I find fgo more visually appealing. More so the animations. They look more stylized. For instance camera angles with nps. Face card animations also look good/stylized. As long as they keep up the good animations/improve them, have more varied skills (gimmicky/niche stuff, but good payoff to not make them feel pointless.. and I do think this is the correct approach so servants feel different from each other), and add more Qol improvements, they'll be fine.
Fgo2 is not something I'd be okay with unless it was for an entirely different type of game while fgo stays. Would not like to start over. Also "improving" graphics is debatable. For instance just because something has a lot of 3d and is more demanding of someone's device, it doesn't make it more appealing to look at to me. Style > anything else so really it could potentially look like a downgrade to me. For instance when I look at legends and dokkan battle, I do not like how legends looks in comparison. I like the IP so I'd still try out an fgo2, but they have a good thing going with fgo. As long as fgo stays, I wouldn't be against it. Also newer games have less history. Not a good idea to give up a working model for a recent fad with limited history.

Well said, I agree with all your points & general sentiments about the game. I just wish they'd rotate the 4 stars on banners like they used to. It can be frustrating that with bad luck you can have a harder time getting the 4 star than the 5 star if you keep getting the other rate up 4 star. I think it'd be nice if the pity wasn't so high but like you pointed out they've probably crunched the numbers & make the most money with where it's at. It's likely not changing, so I guess hoping for them to be a little more generous with saint quartz is all I'd hope for.
Oh & obviously more animation updates! I was happy when Jalter finally got her update

Its really funny how you released this when literally today, out of curiosity, I just looked up the game looking to see what was new after not following for at least a month and finding out there has practically been nothing. Its a live service game; there should be no reason for the large lack of content so frequently even when I played (I stopped playing around August of last year). There is hardly any QOL, updated animations, or features. Also, I see what you mean about the visual novel aspect but where is the story? its released so infrequently. It has always baffled me where all the time and money go. Ive just assumed that the dev team is very small and money goes right into the shareholders pockets. Ive spent quite a lot of time with the game and its sad feeling like its stuck in the past all the while moving in slow motion.

As a f2p player that hit one year a few days ago, I think FGO is a good civilisation. Yes, it would be nice to have QoL updates and some new stuff like - onore arceido - 10 bond lines, but overall the game feels good.
I have no idea if this is intentional design or not, but summoning and enhancing systems worked out very pleasant in my attempt to make it to Tunguska and finish it without delay (aside from events). Servants I've summoned, skills I've enhanced - each and every one of them was instrumental in my rush through the Lostbelts and, well, at the last hours I've made it.
As for the SSR summoning rate - a bit sad theme, but it only makes Servants you've got even more memorable. And it's not like the game requires tons of them, so I don't see the point of chasing meta over favourites you can just win with a bit of patience.
Overall, one core thing I would've liked to see appear in the future - purchase of old events in the rare prism store. I'm here for the story and it's a bit sad to have so much unavailable stuff.

Those comparisons with original Waver and Artoria NP illustrated how much the game has improved very well from a graphical standpoint.

As an old school turn based fan, FGO scratches that itch better than anyone. This is probably why it has been my main gacha for 7 years. It obviously can improve in some simple ways like animation updates, live 2d, qol and fixes, but I'm pretty content with more of the same. Hopefully now that covid has slowed down/ceased to be as big of a deal, they can get back to work at the content mill and give us the goods we have been slow to recieve the last few years.

I've played since the game released on NA. I remember getting D'Eon for my tutorial, and Gilgamesh on my first 10 roll and the moths saving, waiting for Lancelot to come back. I remember my main two goals starting being Illya and Kiritsugu and the hype as Accel/Zero and Prisma causway approached. I never left but at the same time I hardly so anything but log in anymore. This is a game I used to LOVE but for the last year or so the grind has gotten VERY stale and not not nearly enough return.
99.9% of the game is grinding the same exact nodes nonstop with no auto-battle using meta looping setups that have long since optimized whatever the fun was left out of the increasingly tedius process.
I have no problem with turn based games but this is just chores now.
Auto-Battle has rather paradoxically made a game like Honkai Star Rail more engaging because when it comes to daily grinding I can just hit autoplay, go do something else come back and engage with the interesting parts of the game, be it story or overworld stuff or combat that actually warrants player input and I don't feel drained by the time I get to that.
Subjectively to me the main story is still the same Nasu goodness, but events continue to grow less and less interesting. The most recent story was the first time I just skipped a story entirely because I got sick of the trite harem bait, and since then I've read less and less.
And all the grind in service of one of the cruelest gacha systems out there. In the number of rolls it takes to get to pitty in FGO, the others I play now will have given you three guaranteed, with rolls left over. I've been VERY lucky in FGO, like I got NP2 Merlin on the first roll of his first banner. But conversely before pity Castoria took me 15k quartz. Anecdotal I know more stories from my freinds closer to the latter than former. Meanwhile over here in Star Rail I'll get someone guaranteed every other patch or so. There's so many characters I like or even love in FGO I just have to ignore despite sitting on what would be a dragon's hoarde in any other gacha because not only is it not enough for pitty, but you can't even build any for the next banner. Just finding out pitty existed in such a way for other games was like being unplugged form The Matrix. And that's just 5*s. We don't even get pitty for 4*s. Like If I hit Berserker Castoria pitty with no Chloe coppies I'm almost certainly gonna quit for good.
Other Gacha games have fully voiced and localized story and cutscenes. Now it really isn't fair to hold that against FGO at all. That is a TON of work and resources the devs and the game engine itself might not be able to reasonably handle, but it does have a positive affect on my engagement with other games.
There's also balance, difficulty and power creep, but that's very much not even remotely an FGO exclusive issue by any stretch of the imagination and warrants it's own multi year scientific debate.

Some players are deeply grateful, few others is starting to lose hope and the rest just moved on to another game.
I'm in the latter. FGO seriously needs a huge update. Change the UI, more animation updates, some new game modes, an engine booster and most importantly a proper account binding feature that could be linked to Google.
No offense but some players really need to overlook these aspects, this game has survived for too long. And even though there aren't many signs that showing it's downfall, lots of people are actually complaining.

FGO without the Fate IP would have been dead on arrival.
One of the worst econs of any game I've played.
QoL improvements are minimal and take forever to come out, and then Global has to wait 2 years after JP gets it.
No relevant content outside its stamina system.
Takes far too long to farm enough for most units to come online (many units straight up unusable until skills max)
The combat is one of the better card battlers due to a decade of slow polishing, but it's also showing its age hard.

I don't have issue with the gameplay itself, in fact I like the 2d turn base gameplay. I just wish the story cutscenes were more "animated" and are fully voiced.
