Great video. I remember when the (A) line only had R46s and the R179s didn't exist yet. Now the R179s seem like they're more common than the R46s. I have a question, though. How come the R46 sets only have 4 cars, but the R179 sets have 5 cars?
R46 are 75 foot long cars, while the R179 are 60 foot cars, meaning an R179 could fit 10 cars, and the R46 fitting 8 cars because if the R46 were 10 cars, they wouldn't fit into the platform.
Broad Channel service: (A) - Far Rockaway-Mott Av, Queens [also to/from Rockaway Park-B 116 St, Queens in Rush Hours in Peak Direction] ↔️ Inwood-207 St, Manhattan via 8 Av Express; Rockaway Freeway, Liberty Av, Fulton St Express, Central Park West Express, Inwood {Next Stop South: B 67 St; Next Stop North: Howard Beach-JFK} Rockaway (S) - Rockaway Park-B 116 St, Queens ↔️ Broad Channel, Queens {Next Stop South: B 90 St; NORTHERN TERMINAL}
Well, there's been something going on the last couple of years, if you haven't noticed, and I've been avoiding the subway for mostly that reason. But ow that the R211's are testing, I'll be making perioding trips in to try and catch them.
The R179’s were built by Montreal Canada based Bombardier. The R46’s were built by Pullman. The R179’s entered service in November 2017 and they’ve had so many problems with reliability. As a result Bombardier was banned from bidding on the contract for the R211’s. That contract was awarded to Japan based Kawasaki. Kawasaki also built the LIRR’s M9’s that entered service on September 11, 2019.

bc of the length of the R46 the 10 car R46 wouldnt fit in the station R179s are shorter and they can fit 10 cars

The R46 Car number 6062 was derailed at 14th street in 2020

I was probably in one of the trains here lol
I can't believe you lost so much interest in the NY Subway. I thought you loved it before and that is why I subscribed to you in the first place
