What a great intellectual video, thank you for researching this for us and for explaining with so much clarity. What I do with the lost sock mates, I put them in a large ziplock bag then in the basket where I put the clean clothes to fold or hang. Once I have washed all the dirty clothes hampers and I still can’t find the mates, then I use them for cleaning once then throw away dirty.

I put mismatched socks in a basket (which used to be full of I-don’t-even-remember-what!) in my hallway. That way, when I go to put clothes away, I just drop them in, and periodically go through and find matches. When I have time, I go through them, and toss any socks I haven’t had matches for in a while.

This is perfect for me at the moment. I'm going through decluttering financial guilt. I went to a car boot sale and made 40 euro but lost 2 days sorting stuff and bringing stiff home. It's not worth it and I'm just going to give it to charity! It's eating into my time ... I'm just constantly rearranging stuff!
2:26 This was me today ... It's a beautiful sunny week here in Ireland and I'm shuffling around my clutter. I'm taking this video as a sign and I'm declaring myself FREE! Thank you 🙏

The socks reminded me of what happened a few years ago when I choose to only buy identical white socks. I did end up keeping 2 pairs of fuzzy socks but I loved them and they’re worn at home not with shoes. Fast forward to my winter purge and I realized the white socks were really worn out with holes and dirt stains. After getting rid of those, I didn’t have enough to wear to work so I decided to get a bag. Since I typically wore black shoes the white socks stood out so I bought black socks and have been phasing out the white socks as they’ve worn down. Right now I’m down to 3 white socks. Once 2 more wear out I’ll toss them all and stick with the black ones (same brand and style). Makes socks so much easier because I don’t have to search for a match. They all match. Plus, there are no orphan socks to throw away when they’re all clones

I had a spending problem this time last year. I don't think I spent over $1k, but it could've been used for things that would've improved my life. Been getting rid of what I bought mostly through selling or giving helpful and fun things to a friend with a child ❤️

I have come along way with the financial guilt. With expensive things that I can sell, I think that selling the thing does help because even if you only get half what you paid, at least then you recoup half where as keeping it and not using it is losing the whole price of the object. I'm trying hard to get rid of guilt about what I have, what I keep, what I let go. Life is too short and guilt doesn't help any part of life.

Guilt is a HUGE problem for me. I was raised in a strictly religious family, and went to a religious school. Guilt was so DRILLED into me that I sort of had a breakdown when I was about 12. They taught us that even thinking about something was as bad as doing it. Everyday I thought I was going to hell because I could not control my thoughts. I am an atheist now. But since no money was spent on me as a child, I have guilt about each penny I spend. So buying something and not using it is really hard on me. And yes, I am getting therapy. What helps is that my husband and I get a certain amount of pocket money each month that we get to do whatever we want with. So I can buy craft things, or whatever. But even going to a fast food restaurant is guilt producing. It is a terrible burden. My daughter and I were just discussing this because she adopted a kitten that is not working out in her home with the other cats. I have taken it in, I wanted one anyway, and she feels horribly guilty about it. We were talking about how to get over this burden in our lives. I do enjoy your videos, and I may have to watch this one over and over as I go thru my home, decluttering. The kitten, however, is staying. LOL He is precious! BTW, socks and guitar picks both get stolen by gremlins and disappear!

Something I do to get through a financial guilt item is to think of a comparable fee/tax/charge that we got hit with that we survived. $700 is a surprise car repair. Not much I can do about that bill besides just moving on--I attach that same feeling to the item and move on. (For me the feelings don't go away immediately, I have to kinda revisit it and "move on" several times, and it gets easier over time. The financial guilt items are tough for me, but I think I'm getting better!)

Always difficult to let go of the financial guilt of money mistakes. But, you are so right. The decision to let go of the items we chose but now won't use for whatever reason...coming to terms with it and facing the truth about a bad choice head on, then dealing with it, including forgiving ourselves for simply being human...and moving on, lesson learned.

Thank you for alerting me to the battery storage issue we purchased a storage box and now have all out batteries in one place which of course is a plus. May I give one tip re the childrens sock issue, purchase 3 delicates wash bags or camping wash bags put a childs name on each and hang it in their bedroom or wherever they get undressed and challenge them to put their socks in ready for the wash. If you then close the bags and throw them in the machine and dryer each childs socks are enclosed and don't have to be sorted. Then a quick tip out on the bed and a moments collection of pairs and bingo socks done.

The socks hit home with me - I’m currently deciding on whether to purchase new walking socks or whether to just make do with the old ones I own. I’m afraid of future financial guilt/regret. It stops me from decluttering old pairs just in case and stops me buying a new pair that could the job better just encase I don’t use it enough to justify the cause or it doesn’t improve my comfort. In the meantime I suffer the blisters. I’ve made such progress on my decluttering journey that I get frustrated that I can get so hung up on something as so small as socks. But thank you for justifying that it’s okay to get a roadblock over smaller things and for leading the example of how to move on. I will taking a long look at my bag of socks tonight!

Sometimes there are purchases we make (or gifts we receive) that we don't use simply because we haven't got round to learning how to use them. I was given an air fryer oven that I was going to get rid of because I wasn't using it and it was taking up space on my counter top. I thought I'd give it a try before disposing of it and - wow! By keeping the camera you don't use, you increase its costs : each time you see it, it costs you guilt, which is far worse than money.
If you would sell it, not only would it cut the guilt cost, but you would recoup some money.
And the difference between the price you paid and your selling price would just be the cost of learning a lesson.

I just donated a $200+ Brevelle juicer my husband gave me for Christmas a decade ago and I have literally used it maybe a dozen times at most… I’ve moved it with me to 3 different houses. I had planned to clean it up and try to sell it but I never got around to and now with 3 young kids, I just finally accepted that I don’t have to time and even if I did, more importantly, I don’t have the mental bandwidth to bother with it. I still felt crappy as I handed over the donation box to the guy at goodwill… although my husband couldn’t care less and he has been telling me to just donate for years if I don’t use it, I still feel like I failed my hushed for #1 not using a gift he gave me and #2 not at least recouping some of the money. I wish I could say I get better after donating it, but I don’t… I still feel guilt over it BUT I can say that I have one less on my to do list and one less thing silently nagging me every time I open my cupboard so that is definitely worth something!!

Thanks. I vote for you to use that Sony camera. Your phone camera works ok as far as the visuals go, although the focus element kept compensating when you were on the couch, but the audio has reverb (that "back of the room" kind of echoie sound), so the audio could be better, not just quality of sound but better volume. The way to get rid of echo and other poor quality traits is to put the mic close to your mouth, where you speak. Notice broadcasters when they are speaking on camera. The mic is on their shirt usually, right next to their mouth. The Sony might have a connect input on it to connect an external mic. But you might also be able to connect an external mic to your phone if it has an input. Just a little feedback to possibly help with your channel.

You should definitely maybe start using the camera as in can change the quality of your videos and help improve the quality of your content. Use it before you truly decide to let it go if it doesn’t work out.

None of my nine grand kids ever wear matching socks. Clean yes matching no.

Yes! I spent out on a high end computer to use with our VR rig, then got pregnant and found that VR made me too queasy, so the computer barely gets touched. :(

Over the last few years, you’ve definitely decluttered $700 worth of clothes & books. You may be getting stuck because it’s a singular item that cost $700.

Why dont you just leave socks in wardrobes? And kids sport clothes? That way you dont need to make additional space for them around the house.
