You say no tricks but I happen to know on some of her recordings at least there's a tiny bit of pitch correction, I'd rather hear her imperfections.
I've been following Lucy for 4 years, have you ever heard her sing live? When I say no tricks, I'm referring to yelling, screaming ! She will have her voice for a very long time!

I've seen her sing live yes (although not in person) she clearly has the most beautiful voice in the world right now but I just thought I'd point out the studio audio has been enhanced in some way with technology, I agree though and I like the fact she doesn't try to show off she just sings with feeling and emotion.
Some quick thoughts: Lucy covers but does not copy, she's very conservative about not straining and ruining her voice (I applaud her for that), she does "Reach but no screech", and when she did hit the power and reach a little her fantastic vibrato shines through. Most of her videos are either a bust or a head-shot (simple) but she throws herself into the piece and she doesn't just sing, she performs. Last one: in a lot of her renditions she ramps up the power, but then collects the sound and brings us back to earth with just a very pleasing final note (that usually creates a gut reaction in me). I could say more but I'm reining it in here.

I am so glad when I discover another reactor doing a reaction to Lucy Thomas - both Lucy and her sister Martha for their still young years are sheer force of vocal excellence. Yes Lucy is the bit older one of the sisters with more experience but, they are both just a delight to listen to and deserve all that comes their way.
Keep in mind Lucy sang this when she was 17 or 18 years old while Whitney sang her iconic version at age 29 (I believe). I’d love to see Lucy sing this again at age 25 or so just for comparison. I think Lucy is one of the top female vocalists in the world. You should listen to her duets with her sister Martha. They sound like angels with their harmonies.

If you want to hear her voice in harmony, check out some of the duets with her younger sister Martha who is about 6 years younger than her. They just dropped a new one about 5 weeks ago and it is a contemporary Christmas song called Mary Did You Know. I 100% promise you will be blown away.
Also, Lucy Thomas doesn't block reactions to her stuff, in fact, she and her producer Chris Broome actively support it, and I've actually seen them comment on reaction channels a few times, which is so cool. But it does mean you don't have to add a filter over it or anything, nobody else does.

I think Lucy’s best Whitney cover is Run to You, from the Bodyguard, recorded when Lucy was about 16.
The two tracks you have reacted to are 3 and 2 years old she gets better every time. Recording contract at 14 1 track per month released on her site, more than 70 now 5 cd's a sold out concert in March I believe, and the owner of the record company is writing a West end Musical called Rosie around her voice.opening in autumn this year Her duets with her sister Martha 5 years 8 months younger are sublime harmonies and started when Martha was just 10 but their Xmas release 2023 Mary did You Know was outstanding. Try her latest releases Evergreen or Bridge Over Troubled Waters. You see how much better she is.

It is possible that Lucy may go into Musical Theatre her manager and song writer Chris Broom has wrote a musical called " Rosie " which Lucy is the star of it. This will be out in the fall in London. There is one great song Lucy sings which will cover most of her range and that is "All By Myself" by Celine Dion she sings this song like no other, from her soft rich voice at the begging of the song leading up to her singing out of Stratospere at the end of the song. I actually thought Whitney was somewhat overrated as good as she undoubtedly was she was guilty of too many vocal gymnastics for my liking and the emotion of the lyrics she was singing got lost somewhat, Lucy on the other hand is just phenomenally. The only other female singer in history on her level (in my opinion) was Aretha Franklin.

Hi Britt. Let me say first that Lucy never ever disappoints. I have listened to all of her recordings and I like all of them. From Etta James’s “At Last” to Procal Harem’s “A Whiter Shade of Pale”. The whole 60 plus recordings are amazing. Plus you must listen to Lucy and her sister Martha’s duets. They are spellbinding!
Also one of my favorites is “Everygreen”. Evergreen is way before your time but one of Barbra Streisand’s greatest hits. I must warn you that the Lucy Thomas rabbit hole is very deep. I actually prefer Lucy's version better than Barbra's, and Iam old enough to remember the original Streisand version. Just my two cents worth.

Contralto-Soprano is what Lucy is, she has depth and richness but her voice can still soar high like Judy Garland and Barbara Streisand did.

Yes she is a Soprano you're right but there are different types of Soprano voices like; Lyric-Soprano, Mezzo-soprano, Contralto-Soprano etc...
For example Katherine Jenkins is a good example of a Mezzo-Soprano, a good example of a Lyric-Soprano would be Amira Willighagen, to my ear at least Lucy's voice sits in the Contralto-Soprano range.
That was a really thoughtful reaction. But to put this into context, Whitney was 30 years old when she recorded this song. Lucy was seventeen!!.To give you an idea just how versatile Lucy is take a listen to the Smokey Jazz number by Etta James "At Last" and then "Pie Jesus" from Lucy's latest album "Beyond - audio only at the moment. In all my years listening to all genres of music, I haven't witnessed another female singer with such diversity in a voice. The sky is the limit for this young exceptionally impressive singer. It's hard to smile when you're crying. When she collects all the power down to the final 2 notes it sends me over the top. Those last 2 notes are light, tender, perfectly on key, and are the cherry on top of this performance.

These covers blew me away! Frankly everything Lucy touches turns to gold im.h.o. and she still is getting better & better every time she delivers a new (cover) song.
And you might also want to look in to the duets that she did with her sister Martha ; at first it was adorable and beautiful but her sister also got a lot better over the years. Those family voices harmonize beautifully together! Lucy has also 8 video's that where written specially for her upcoming role of the musical Rosie -> those songs are also very good!

I don't think she plays to her strength, I see her as performing the piece of music - she becomes the song.
For me, it's not so much a cover as a tribute to the goddess in this genre.
Lucy is smart and knows exactly her strengths. So she kept the song a bit smaller and with that she can absolutely shine and gives an idea of what great potential is still hidden in her. I love this girl.

As Bruce Lee once said 'Be water my friend', meaning when you spoor water into a pot, it becomes the pot, poor water into glass it becomes the glass. When Lucy sings, she becomes the song, she sings the song with all her heart and soul, she sings with clarity, smooth control, a beautiful softness, and breath control, she checks all the boxes. When People listen to Lucy, they are stunned, and then they go down the Lucy Rabbit hole, and there is no way to stop.

Music artists are amazing. Dolly Parton wrote this song, yet it was made great by Whitney Houston. Jim Weatherly wrote Neither one of us, but Gladys Night and the Pips made it great. How amazing to take a feeling from within and make something musical and everlasting. That kind of talent always amazes me. Now young Lucy Thomas has taken vocal courses and is becoming a great singer in her own right. Her vocal tone is beautiful.
This is a tribute to Whitney Houston, that Lucy is going, that is why she is keeping to the version of 'I will always love you', Whitney sang.

Great reaction Britt. This is very good cover by Lucy but as you said her voice doesn't quite have that extra oomph that made Whitney's singing so special. This is not to take away from Lucy it's just the physical difference between a black singer and a white singer.
I see you are perhaps teasing that you might do a reaction to a Lucy and Martha duet ( talking about harmonies ) and of course people are immediately suggesting 'The Prayer' which is a powerhouse performance no doubt. But even if you don't do reactions to them could I suggest that you might watch a few of the earlier duets just to get a feel for the special bond between these two sisters. 'Say Something' is the first duet they did when Martha was 10 and the interaction between them as they sing is so wonderful to see, and Martha was so precious at that age. Also 'You Raise Me Up' has some pictures of the girls as they were growing up that also illustrate their bond.
Britt, about the simplicity of Lucy's video: One reactor commented saying there's just her, maybe some lights, and a microphone -- "and she gets away with it." I know that I watch all the way through her videos.
