One of my favorite new cars for sure. I had a black one pass me the other day and it was beautiful in person. I immediately went home, looked up specs, and started dreaming.
I highly recommend you all drive even an F-Type R. You will be smiling literally the entire time. It's an unmatched experience. I ended up buying an SVR.....drove a 911, AMG-GTS and the drive in the F-Type "R" was more fun than the others. Plus, everyone and their mothers have a 911. There are 30 PAGES of them for sale within a 500 mile radius. 2 pages of SVR in the entire US. It's SO FUN!
Does the car feel heavy? Does it have a lot of understeer? My biggest worry is that the SVR will never feel agile and light like the Vette, 911, AMG GT, Evora, etc.
That Moist Tender Area Between My Nuts And Fartbox. I don't know why, but I just touched the area between my nuts and fartbox, to see if it was moist and to my surprise it really is, Amazing.
I may be a few beers in but still I gotta say thank you Matt and Co. for all these one takes you have done. Gives people like me who will probably never own one of these the first person experience, you really are doing a good service to car people like me, thank you.
Jordan Swart The Callum bro are the best designers in the business, well some of them. Jags look great and fords are the best looking mainstream cars. Henrik Fisker is obviously a legend but he isn't working as much as he used to. The head of Kia and hyundai Peter something is also very good as are the Mazda designers.
When I heard the price tag my first thought was, "why not buy something else?" Then I heard the engine and I thought, "ok, this has a place in the world".
i got to drive an svr for the past few days. I have also had the opportunity to drive a 911 turbo. And i fell in love with the Jag. the noise it makes and the speed. it just makes you giggle and laugh hysterically as your listening to the backfires out of the exhaust. The transmission while not a dual clutch is fast and actually pretty damn good. it is docile and smooth when not in dynamic mode but it really snaps gears quick when you are. The build quality is actually really nice and I feel like they nailed the mesh between leather and alcantara. I had the one with the glass roof which was nice. made it pretty bright in the car. While the infotainment system definitely showed its age a bit i am sure you could probably swap out that screen with something else if you really wanted too. But at the end of the day the car is made for the driver. I never really found myself hating anything about the car. This thing in my opinion has a lot more heart and soul than a 911. And it also has the ability to pull harder on the heart strings.
Added wireless carplay and android auto to my 2016 F type S....took over the nav button. It is wonderful now in terms of tech. knobs are really nice to have too....really really nice.....ask a golf r mk8 reviewer...
I would take this over a 911 all day and twice on Sunday! The sound alone draws me to it. And like you said in the very first F-TYPE video you did back in 2014 911 is a cookie cutter car. F-TYPE IS SAVAGE!
I would take this in the 2.0 version and still be completely fine with it. I love the way the FType looks! The V8 sounds glorious though, heard and filmed many of them at the local cars and coffee! Those people though... Blind corners sometimes offer nasty surprises. I am glad they were not further in the road!
b00st3d BMW I once drove a '15 RWD V8 on a motoroway. The acceleration (and soundtrack) put smile on my face every time I nailed it. But them I drove off into the city centre and that exhaust made me laughing...at 25 mph on second gear (tapping the throttle- crackles - throttle- crackles while driving in a normal traffic). Unfortunately I don't know how this car feels when you're playing with it - a) I've been driving very carefuly and b) I simply can't drive like a proper driver.
As an automotive journalist, I thought the same way,, that rear drive was the way to go, until I drove both back to back at a Press Day. The all wheel drive really gets the power to the ground. The crackle and pops on this car make it one of the best sounding cars on the road. I will have a review of the limited edition 400 model, I thought that was the best bang for the money
b00st3d BMW it’s not the best car to get for the money.. it’s slower than an AMG E63 S that has AWD and RWD at the same time. Sounds amazing too, not as loud as Jaguar tho. I admit that jaguar looks beautiful and mean. But other than that a E63 S AMG will be better in anyway.
As a V8 R Driver, I am very keen on the SVR. The new, updated MMI is on the 18MY F-Type. You also get perforated leather on the seats and doors inside the stitched quilting, as well as a different centre storage area. A flat net, as opposed to the flocked bucket.
Did they change the body style? I don't know if it's the rear spoiler or what but this looks different (and a little underwhelming) compared to the last generation, which I love. Also, I'll take a 6 speed F-type with RWD over this any day.
The spoiler is added on, and the front intakes are combined I to one large opening on each side rather than two, split by body design, on each side. Othereise mostly the same.
I'm 50 years-old, and in my advanced age, I don't really like my cars so loud anymore. Hell, nowadays I've even went from having my E60 M5 straight-piped, to a full exhaust. But, the sound, and volume this Jag produces? I think I could live with it fairly easy.
Yeah, I don't even think I'd use the quiet mode on that exhaust. I'd use it out of consideration of others, because I wouldn't wanna wake people up with a cold-start in the mornin'. Because, I got a bastard of a neighbor that owns an F150, that wakes me up every morning that I don't work, and it genuinely pisses me off to no end.
Constructive Critique ah i feel you. Oh and I have a neighbor with a 2011 mustang gt with a roush exhaust and that thing is the loudest ever. But i dont mind it since its a beautiul sound. I couldnt say the same though for an f150 haha
I’m 50 - thought the same thing. Own the SVR - when I’m not on a call (bt of course) I always turn off quiet mode - sometimes I put in VMAX mode which has insane snap offs....
You were flat getting it!!! 30k just for the sound it makes in my mind!! You had a fluidity in this car that you don't have in every car you test. She is stunning imo. There isn't anything else that looks like it on the road full stop. Great vid as always Matt thanks
It's been raining non stop for 72 hours already and you have to race up, and back down, that hill. On the same tyres do you have this or a current gen 911 Turbo S?
Between the three, the 911 GTS/Turbo, F type SVR and AMG GTS, which rides the best ? Tracking them, sure maybe once month, but as a daily, comfortable, luxurious place to be in, which would you recommend? The Aston’s and Bentleys are easily twice the price, even though they’re the real luxury GTs.. so In this price range , what comes out on top?
But Matt, which 911 - that’s the question? Not he base, not the CS? GTS? Big maybe... When you go beyond the GTS, it’s not a fair comparison to this car. And which year 911 as well - which affects the price? Curious as to your response. Awesome honest review as usual.
Its 2.86 to 60mph, tuned. On Dragy. But it is max torque from 2500 to 6500 RPM that makes the car far more powerfu under the curve than any other production car. I would go with the lighter, more WHP, much faster RWD R.
These cars are beautiful. I've loved them since day one. I must say though, I'd like to have a s/c'd V6 with RWD instead. Although I've never driven one, I'm sure driving the two back to back would change my mind about the rwd vs awd models.
I think you'd like this, because it's actually 100-Rear/0-Front until it senses traction loss, then it sends power to the front as needed, all the way up to 50/50. But, it drives like RWD, mostly. I've back to backed it with the supercharged v6 model, and only the 8 cylinder F-Types are intoxicating. Either myself or my passenger has broken out laughing every time. The sound makes you feel giddy and like you are going much faster than you are. The 6's are underwhelming after the SVR or even the R, unfortunately, but a great car if you've never experienced the big beasts.
How does the car mfg get away with how loud the car exhaust is? There is a decibel law for how loud a car exhaust can be in California . What do you do when you get a loud exhaust ticket?
Love this car, however wonder what your opinion is on crackly sports exhausts like this. I work in Monaco and once you have heard that crackle a zillion times on audis and G wagons it gets a bit old. What would it sound like without that amplification? Even a Fiat Abarth has an epic exhaust these days. It reminds me of the guys who used to fit fat exhausts to tiny minis and drive up and down my village in Scotland ,but with a bigger budget :)
Hey Matt, awesome review as always! Can you provide any sources as to the 3.1 sec 0-60 time you stated the F-Type R Coupé did? It made me very curious since Jaguar says it'll do the it in 3,9... Cheers!
Man, $130K. Worth it, if you can afford it, but I think I'll wait a couple years and get a low-miles used one for about 60K, and take my chances with the legendary Jag reliability reputation.
This car is actually a 2017 model and not a 2018 model which is why you had the outdated infotainment system. The 2018's have the updated system like the F-Pace to go along with the midcycle refresh.
I love jags one of my favorite cars, I just wish they would step up the power and infotainment system. And maybe even go dual clutch so it can compete with other cars.
it goes 200 mph how much more power do you want? as for infotainment system seriously is that why you buy a car? This car can compete with virtually anything except maybe things like the Ferrari 812
Wow. One of the fastest one takes ever it looked like. Great choice of roads and amazing quality of tarmac, that Jag looked very quick and the ride looked great. Cannot believe they have not updated the MMI, which on a car of that price point sucks big time. Shame about the rear wing, totally ruins the flow of the line and rear end, just like it does on the AMG GT S (or is the rear wing an option on that?) BUt still a fast capable daily that can hustle if you want a point and squirt muscle car. I would also take the Porsche, but the GT S is a lovely place to be, the cabin is very special.
The car is THE most beautiful car for sale today. Even including hypercars. Even including the 911, the 458, the roma is similar actually. Amazing car. 911 is more refined but is too expensive. Get a used F type for 50k or a used P car for 110......I'd rather have 60 for 10 trips. :) And, having had a 996tt, the P cars do eventually break... a lot.....they are not the well made uber cars the marketing and PCA would like you to believe. Ask a Metzger person about coolant pipe glue in a 996 or 997 turbo or gt3...... Jaguar: Stradivarius, art first and second and third 911: Yamaha top tier - technically superior, lacking soul Both are violins. One has soul.
Great value, but the competition is too good. 911 is the absolute benchmark, and the AMG GTS is much more of a riot with the glorious sound, power, rwd and a fantastic dual clutch. For me, the best configuration would be a stick shift V6S F-Type with RWD. Otherwise, the 911 and AMG GT takes the cake !
I am personally very confused when people put F-Type and 911 in the same price category. F-Type priced fully loaded with very few options to add to the MSRP, while 911 has to be "bare bones" to match the price. When you add all features and options already put into Jag, 911 is something like 50-60k more. I think Cayman/Boxer is actual price competitor here. Though, in Canada it may be somewhat different.
"...not a hell of a lot of steering feel but accurate...". Bit of a deal breaker for me. I wonder how hard it is to "dial IN steering feel". What does that involve? Is it a minor "adjustment" or does it replacing major parts? And why didn't Jaguar design this car WITH incredible 911-like steering feel?
Nice video, i have one of these and an F10 M5, knocks spots off the M5, always ready to deliver with no hassle no buttons to press, super fast, the M5 is now a disappointment, will be trading it in for a merc or GTR.
The car seems really capable, fast, as he said adjusted in corners with sway bars, dampers, shocks , all of it, and you adjust independently, plus the ceramic breaks(very important). It sounds good, and can be quiet, by would I ever wanna do that, right? Maybe late night parking in the garage, to keep my neighbors asleep. It also seems to have except all sportiness, power , cornering abilities, these type of not extreme sport supercar, to the point it is rough, and this is all you get, alike almost track car, no it seems to have some of that Aston martin all nice leather saloon, interior, dash, sound isolation and all. Really a car I like, and it looks nice too, it might not be as special, or like so innovative design, that it looks as if it came from space, but I like the exterior styling. However, Porsche is my favorite sportscar, and will remain for now, but I there is no Jaguar I liked before this one for a long , long time.
Matt don't your brakes ever overheat going up and down the canyon all day long like that? Always appreciate your videos. Shout out from South Africa 🇿🇦

That must be a good car . His flying around like a mad man and at the same time has this cool calm conversation.
I have a pic of this car above my desk to give me motivation for when I'm burned out. Simply the best sounding engine in the world.
Honestly one of my favorite cars. Supercharged, beautiful, sounds amazing, right size, decent trunk, pretty interior. Solid.

BUt still a fast capable daily that can hustle if you want a point and squirt muscle car.
And, having had a 996tt, the P cars do eventually break... a lot.....they are not the well made uber cars the marketing and PCA would like you to believe. Ask a Metzger person about coolant pipe glue in a 996 or 997 turbo or gt3......
Jaguar: Stradivarius, art first and second and third
911: Yamaha top tier - technically superior, lacking soul
Both are violins. One has soul.
I like the fact that it doesn't have plastic engine covers.
This is what a hell hound sound like, straight from the gate of hell.
Jesus that take off looked fast in the beginning.
DAMN MATT, you look good in that ride!
Have you ever been pulled over for speeding on your one takes? Legit question. Thanks!
Though, in Canada it may be somewhat different.
what's on the wrist, matt?
I had a chance to drive a Coupe R at an event at Watkins Glen recently... magnificent car... really wish I had the money lol.
How is your headroom? I know previously you said it varied on seat position.
MBisFrenchy it’s fine if I get my seat all the way down
TheSmokingTire Thanks!
Love the details in this review!
Damn, 15.6" front rotors. That is huge.
Does this SVR come with a manual?
Nice video, i have one of these and an F10 M5, knocks spots off the M5, always ready to deliver with no hassle no buttons to press, super fast, the M5 is now a disappointment, will be trading it in for a merc or GTR.
Its crazy i have that combo. Orange F10 M5 and red Jaguar F Type R. What sedan you end up getting?
Matt, you are testing the pre-facelift F-Type which is why you're not getting the latest infotainment system.
*SmokingTire - thanks for this thoughful, cogent review - really well done I enjoyed watching it & hearing your comments. Thx again*
Im so high i thought that sound was the exhaust, lol it was the damn coffee cup 😂😂😂
Matt don't your brakes ever overheat going up and down the canyon all day long like that?
Always appreciate your videos. Shout out from South Africa 🇿🇦
Hape Sethathi ceramic brakes take a lot of punishment
No, the brakes in a car like this should really never fade under street conditions.
TheSmokingTire okay thanks Matt.
The GT8 is probably the loudest thing to come out of Britain
JimmyBoy Ummm, McLaren F1...
Drunk geordies on a holiday
Nah, nah. That'd be Jeremy Clarkson watching James May build a Caterham Seven.
"JAAAAAAAMMMEESSS!!!!!!!!!
Does...*deeply inhales* it...*deeply exhales* need a washer. YES.....OR.....NO?!"
...is not really that loud.
that was some really solid driving!
I️ will be visiting Los Angeles and I️ would like to know what are some good driving road like these one?
Mulholland Drive west bound from Topanga Canyon early in the morning, it’s curvy but some fast traffic, especially bikes.
