Pretty much all new builds now you have to pay ground rent on the houses. It’s a joke ( I lived in a new build before my house now) it’s the second new build I had lived in. Would advise you never to get one, even being restricted to what colour you want to paint your fence etc and also just a little advice but would always advise against first time buyer/ help to buy. We lived there for 6 years. Did the help to buy which was around 20k we ended up having to pay £55,000 back to move. Thank god we now are in our own home without those restrictions ❤ just wanted to give you a little heads up that’s all :-) One thing you will likely find is that your mortgage payments will be lower than what you pay on rent. It’s crazy! X

Highly consider staying at your current place until you buy a house. Moving multiple times will stress you out. If you can afford to stay, stay until you buy a property. As you said, every apartment will be a downgrade.

You have a support system that allows you to go straight to a house. A bit more thought was needed by you before you blurted out your ideas on homeownership.
In Manchester flats are miles more expensive than houses, so if you were getting on the property ladder you would buy a house…? And I wasn’t looking down on anybody, if you can own a home wether it’s a flat or a house it’s a huge achievement
