Alright, I’m gonna go ahead and explain this sorta in-depth. The Source Engine, which is the engine Black Mesa runs on, has an animation system which allows for dynamic head movement of NPCs (such as the security guard in the video) making their head look at either random places, other NPCs, or the player. In this instance, a script was set in place for the security guard to look directly at the player, and then at the teleportation portal, in intervals.
Fun fact, having the safety on when a long gun is not in use is actually pretty standard. You train to disengage it while your are going from low/ready to on target.
@@CaptDestroFreeman’s Mind was made in the original Half Life game, where the security guards only used their pistols. So the line makes a bit more sense in that series than it does in Black Mesa. That and most enemies can literally teleport in front of you at any moment, so it be best to always be ready for combat
The reason he’s probably reacting this way is that guards are probably placed outside of test areas and the most they have see is a old guy pushing a rock into a laser.
Fun lil note, he has additional commentary if you go through the portals a couple more times. This is his first reaction. On the second time through, he makes comment of “well, at least you aren’t inside out” Third time through, he says “if you come back with a fly head, I’m shooting till the gun goes click”
The problem with this sequence is that it retcons the fact that humanity only finished research on local teleportation technology on the day that freeman appeared in city 17.
Not really the same room is in the original game as well. Not to mention Black Mesa had plenty of tech more advanced than what they had in HL2 but unfortunately it was lost thanks to the nuke
@@BBQBARNES-GAMING My favorite Easter egg in that game is the report from Barney about Dr Horn that concludes with with Barney falling out of his chair trying to race Gordon to unlock Kleiners office. Best reaction would probably be the various reactions to the initial hive hand animation.
This is what i love man, this what sperates black mesa from hl1 for me. There is a lot of details like this with scientists, guards, there is a lot more than just this in the whole game.
Ahora que lo pienso, considerando que el incidente de black mesa sucedio en el estado de Nuevo Mexico, creo que seria interesante un fangame donde pudieramos que paso en las ciudades y los civiles durante la tormenta de portales y la invasión del xen
Given where he works shouldn’t he see shit like they every single day? I’d expect Gordon to *maybe* react like that but probably not a guard that works in the teleportation labs lol
I'm guessing he had absolutely no idea what he was guarding in his department LoL in a pre-cascade world he would have been sent to command post for debriefing and sign a form saying he'd never talk about it or he'll get 10 years in the slammer. (Based on a true story)
Too bad Half life’s plot make as much sense as putting an encyclopedia into a blender lol. I still don’t see the hype for HL series but I’m not an old head so I don’t have the memba berry nostalgia I guess
Nah man the first games story makes perfect sense. Science lab studying teleportation discovers another dimension. They then secretly study that dimension and in doing so rip a hole in our world that allows them to spill into it. the government sends in special forces to eliminate witnesses and to contain the aliens. an alien of great power uses that dimensional rip to invade earth and presumably escape Xen until you stop them. I mean its generic at times but its a solid story over all. especially compared to any shooter for its time
I don’t like remakes I thought the different parts were weird and confusing nobody told me it’d be different!!!!!! Also that boss fight with ballsack creature on hardest difficulty sucks
he works as the guard in the teleportation labs and he hasn't witnessed a single teleportation event? wtf?
“Here is your standard issue vest, helmet, handgun, blindfold-“
He’s probably not IN the room to witness it
I mean I pushed a giant crystal into a beam that destroyed civilization and I still don't know what I was doing lol
I think he's confused as it teleported him when he wasn't even in the room
He might not have had clearance for anything other than the checkpoints idk
Guard: "Holy crap.. How did.."
Gordon: 😐
with everything Gordan has seen up to that point a teleporter wasn't really that big of a deal lol
