it doesn't matter, most of the major camera's which are made for low light photography and videos have a 12 mp sensor, even the samsung takes 12 mp photos in lowlight to get better lighting. every single sony camera which is specifically made for low light videography works through a 12mp sensor, more megapixels always requires more light!!! that's why 12 MP is a ssweet spot for these!!
I was honestly hoping i wouldn't get iPhone on all of the shots, but for me, most of them just looked better, i was like dang... i wanted pixel/samsung to win this, ah well here are my scores iPhone: 18 Google: 8 Samsung: 4 Sorry it seems biased but i was honestly not expecting that
As a samsung guy I have to call it like I see it. The iPhone wins. 🎉 Good job apple not enough for me to make the switch over. But at the beginning of the year the S25 will be here. I'm sure samsung is gonna step it up because iphone did. Let the battle begin then.
I had almost all high end Samsung and for me Samsung makes overall the best pictures except portrait images. But the iPhone (I have the 15 PM) makes fantastic portrait shots and videos are definitely much better than any phone. But all other types (night, panorama, etc etc) are much better on Samsung phones. And Android is miles away better than iOS. The iOS 18 in general is not bad, but the calendar app, alarms and specially the gallery…wow, it’s way too bad on iOS! Really THAT bad. I use my wife’s S24 Plus and it’s much better. I bought the 15 PM because battery life and video is stellar, but as soon as Samsung has a S2x Plus with cameras as good as my 15 PM, I’ll change immediately. Or Apple fixes the iOS, which I doubt. Perhaps in iOS 25 …
@@jorgeconnoe it’s fair because if you want to buy a phone until the S25 is out, these are the options. Or when the S25 is out, you’ll say they have to wait for the iPhone 17?
They tested it. It only works when your running a game while charging. Than it will get up to ~37 watts but as soon as you quit te game it drops back to ~27 watts like the 15 pro max while charging.
And half of them were portrait shots which we all know by now Pixel struggles with, even though Google pioneered it. Would have loved to see more standard shots.
Sure seems like this test was designed to make the Pixel look the worst, since it feels like 90% of the shots were in portrait mode, which the Pixel sucks at 😅
@@sunlit777 no most people do absolutely NOT switch to portrait mode. In fact since natural bokeh blur now happens when you are close to someone a standard shot ends up looking great as a portrait a lot of the time
I'm not a professional, but I’ll share my own thoughts on each picture. The 1st place gets 3 points, the 2nd place 2 points, and the last one 1 point. Based on this scoring, the iPhone 16 Pro came out on top for me with 67 points, making it a clear winner. The S24 followed with 58 points, and the Pixel came in last with 55 points. What's interesting is how often each phone produced the worst result. In my opinion, the Pixel took the worst shot 12 times, the same as the S24. The iPhone 16 Pro, however, only ranked last 5 times and managed to deliver the best picture 11 times, just like the S24. However, due to the number of poor shots, the S24 fell behind. In conclusion, if you want a camera that consistently delivers good quality, the iPhone is the way to go. But if you’re looking for the best pictures in certain categories and don’t mind some drastic variations in quality, the S24 might be a good choice. The Pixel isn't worth considering if it’s more than €200 more expensive than the S24; otherwise, it could make sense.
Exactly. Half of the photos taken by S24U are probably intentionally blurred to make the ones taken by the iPhone look better. The entire RUclips shows that the iPhone loses, and here in this antics it wins in most cases. Not a channel paid for by Apple at all XD
21 points for the iphone 16 pro, and in the last comparison with iphone 15 pro they all nearly scored the same - which is still true for Pixel with 4 and S24 ultra with 5 points having nearly the same points… really didnt expect this. Wow!
way too many portraits. I would not want the handling of artificial software blur to have so much impact on how we grade photos. that artificial blur is crap and nobody should have it on.
The S24 Ultra is capable of way better results than what you are showing here. You have to turn off all of Samsungs stupid auto enhancement processing, because that will turn a great photo into total garbage. Use pro mode or expert raw instead. You'll get way better results. Hopefully Samsung will fix that issue in a future update.
That wasn't even the point of the video. You can do pro mode with all of them. 90% of people aint gonna do that. They tested How most people take pics. You could go on for days with pro mode.
Man, not only was this fun and informative, it was exactly what I needed on the phones I'm deciding on! So fun to see the three of you co- calibrate! Thank you! Thoroughly enjoyed it; Aloha form Northern Colorado!
I believe the only difference is in the size, which means a larger battery capacity and a larger viewing screen for the Max. The cameras and software are identical.
@@iqbalhardito3020 Ahh - Google! Thank you for finding that. JerryRigEverything on RUclips does a teardown of the iPhone 16 Pro Max, and we can see the sensors are rectangles, but we only have the width of the sensor to go with in figuring the focal length for lenses to be normal, wide, and tele. A normal lens (what the eye sees) is equal to the hypotenuse of one half of the sensor. And in the days of film, the diagonal of a single frame of film. A telephoto lens is longer than that, and a wide lens shorter than that length. From Google: “The iPhone 16 Pro Max has several camera sensors with different sizes, including: Main camera: 48MP Sony IMX903 sensor with a 1/1.14" sensor size Ultrawide camera: 48MP sensor with a 1/2.6" sensor size Telephoto camera: 12MP sensor with a 1/3.06" sensor size Front camera: 12MP sensor with a 1/3.6" sensor size” So the ultra wide lens sensor is 1/2.6" which is 25mm/31.5mm assuming a square sensor. And the main lens sensor is 1/1.14” which is 25mm/28.5mm assuming a square sensor. And from JerryRigEverything we know the sensors are not square. We still don’t know the actual sizes of each sensor. Why is that important? Well… …again the focal length of what would be a normal lens is equal to the diagonal of the sensor. A wider angle would be shorter than the diagonal, and a telephoto longer than the diagonal. Actually it’s the length of a hypotenuse of one half of the sensor. 31.5mm squared = 992.25mm 25mm squared = 625m And 992.25mm plus 626mm = 1617.25mm The square root of 1617.25 = 40.21mm assuming the sensor is square. Thus a “Normal” lens for an iPhone 16 Pro Max would need a focal length of 40.21mm. Longer than this would be a telephoto lens, and shorter than this would be wide angle lens. Again assuming the sensor is square. Apparently Apple gives sensor size in inches but lens focal length in millimeters. I converted the ultra wide and main sensor sizes to millimeters. And Apple’s terminology for the Main lens calls it a Wide lens, but not as wide as the Ultra Wide.
I am still shooting with iPhone 13 Pro Max and am always annoyed by the lack of dynamic range. None of the photos in this roundup excite me enough to upgrade based on dynamic range. Still not that good. Would be great to have a video on photo stacking. It may take a stack of many photos to get acceptable dynamic range.
We should redo this test with a good camera app that works on both iOS and Android. One that can override the automatic image processing on all the phones.
Mmmm you put so many portraits, is people using them so much? I mean, for example, if you put as many selfies as the portraits the pixel would probably win.
@@epiccrodris1233 and again, are people really using portrait that much? A camera comparison should be mainly main camera in different light conditions with plain shots (even with humans in it but why would you blur the place?), many selfies, some zooms, very few portraits, one macro maybe.
kind of natural - humans are gregarious animals and watching picks of each other is most fun. Portraits are 80% of shots for most people. Only tired boring nerds shoot landscapes and architecture!
Max, with the macro shot of the flower - you guys need to understand something, the iPhone although it has a 48MP ultrawide sensor, it's still pixel binning so the sensor is really the same 12MP sensor divided to 4.. AND besides that, when the iPhone uses macro mode, it uses a 12MP state not the 48MP (pixel binning) state. So it order to have better macro shot you should disable macro and move closer to the object with the ultrawide lens. That way you'll get a much more detailed macro shot
I was thinking about the same. But then, I own an iphone for years and I'm probably biased for one single fact. I'm used to the iPhone photo algorithms.
The video came out very blurry and compressed so difficult to see detail. This evaluation leans more towards the processing settings. It would be good to do an evaluation on RAW images to check actual resolution, noise, and dynamic range without processing and compression.
I always mute these and just look at the pictures. It was unbelievably close. I was shocked that I had the S24 Ultra barely ahead of the P9P, which was barely ahead of the 16PM. I feel like most years there is a bigger gap.
So, to break it down: Main Lens- iPhone wins Ultrawide Lens- iPhone wins Telephoto Lens- Galaxy and Pixel trade blows Front Camera- Pixel wins (by a country mile)🗿 Extra modes: Portrait mode: iPhone and Galaxy trade blows (Pixel's is a disaster, my goodness☠️) Macro shots: Pixel and Galaxy trade blows (tho it might have been a one-off when iPhone's messed up the focus, I dunno) And then video wasn't mentioned here, but I'm pretty sure we all know that iPhone wins in that category by a landslide lol. However, a boosted video from the Pixel will absolutely give it competition, but that does take a long time to process. All in all, these tests are, indeed, not definitive, as the shots taken will vary drastically, even in the slightest change in lighting or colors. It's entirely up to personal preference, as it always is. Great video, y'all!
Hi Max Tech, i've noticed that the speakers on the iPhone 16 Pro are very tuned down compared to the iPhone 15 Pro. (the smaller models specifically). Could you do a comparison to see if this is true?
Ya'll need to use some NON-portrait mode next time. Seems like you made your decisions weighting that feature way more than stuff like dynamic range and color accuracy. Just have a section where you test that mode and be done with it instead of having it enabled for everything.
Hey, have you noticed the recent changes in iPhone photos? They've been adding a lot more shadows and contrast, and it's making everything look weird. Even well-lit areas are getting darkened. I don't understand why they're doing this. It wasn't like this a few years ago. Now, it seems like it's just the default setting.
For me the points were, Pixel = 14 iPhone = 6 Samsung = 9 I kind of regret buying the iPhone 16 pro max. And these guys wanted the iPhones to win so freaking bad, it's obnoxious.
its a very useful video brother its a best very detailed comparison thanks for posting useful video as a request @maxtech team I am planning to purchase iPhone 16 pro max can you show heating test pls
The Samsung looks the most real. You guys are expecting movie quality, but just like we never went to the moon in 1969, you prefer fake lighting to real.
Definitely mute the sound and pause the video if you're going to compare yourself! You really need to get some people in who don't know the trademark default looks from each brand, a lot of the time it was obvious to you which phone was which. Also, could we have some action shots and video comparisons, thanks!
And just a year ago, the Pixel's selfie camera was still lagging behind the iPhone and the Galaxy...the strides that Google has made are genuinely impressive!
Yup pixel could've won the rear set of cameras battle but next year they changed their hdr pipeline on this years models so it's kinda non consistent and affect photos not only those which need hdr .. so next year maybe but i still love the contrasty look atleast it doesn't look over processed like sammy does@@Wolfywolf7
I don't agree with your macro test. It should have been closer up. Also, the "blur thing" in the night photos is just called "ghosting" or a "flare". This would be because you've taken the photo at a slightly different angle. So it's not really a fair point to criticize on.
bro dont believe this channel when it comes to comparing photos and videos they edit the iPhone shots to seem more clearer/better. If you want to watch an unbiased camera comprising you gotta watch mrwhostheboss
I don't know what's the big thing about background blurry, I don't like it, I want to see everything in the picture. Blurry background irritates my eyes, it's like they're trying to focus on a multi area. As the background is out of focus.
I don't get how extremely biased they were at choosing photos, some images were shot really bad, kinda on purpose. While sometimes all images were terrible, so I didn't give any points. Overall 8 points for iPhone, 6 points for Pixel, 10 points for Samsung. The rest of the pictures were with complete flaws or terrible at all
I was expecting this video but im disappointed, why mostly all portrait pics? You know Pixel is not good at it in default mode, Its sad to need to use this just to make apple wins 🤣
Thanks for the work and enjoyable commentary! The Pixel gives extraordinary results in some shots but looks a bit flat in others and what's going on with what is and isn't blurred, hopefully an update will improve. I was disappointed not to see a clear winner in my scoring, would have liked to have seen some action shots, but I'm going to assume the iPhone does best in video, unless you shoot 8K in good light, in which case the S24 probably edges it? Anyway! My gut tells me I should check back in a couple of months time to see who has done best with updates, I suspect it will probably be the Pixel, though by then will the S25 be on the horizon?!
You should use a larger display. Very often you'll say some phone is more detailed while it clearly is not. On a larger display, you can tell that at a glance. Perhaps place a large TV behind the camera for you guys to view? Some calibrated 65" large OLED TV (viewing angles matter, so OLED) or something.
Fr☠️ Samsung fans seem to be some of the loudest, but what a lot of them don't seem to realize is that the latest phones to be released are in fact at a disadvantage, since the first-released ones have had more time for updates to tweak or improve the camera functionality or processing.

Great comparison. Though it would be best if we can include some exynos version of samsung phones moving forward. There's a lot of feedback saying that the exynos handles HDR better than the snapdragon chipset
I thought that too many of the photos had poor composition which makes picking the best one more difficult. What would be another good comparison would be to include a decent point and shoot camera in the mix
Samsung Knights will always said S24 ultra is the best. Likewise, Apple Mafia with iPhone 16 Pro Max, and Google gangstas with Pixel 9 Pro XL. As for the rest: OnePlus pirate, Xiaomi warlords, The people republic of RealMe, Vivo Triads, Honor society, Huawei Syndicate, Motorola Marauders, Sony shoguns: calm down, stand down and stand by.
All the cameras on the market today do an excellent job capturing images, except for the Samsung Fold, which could benefit from a better camera module. You really can't go wrong with any of the other models.
As an S24 owner and long time Samsung fan, I got 16 for the iPhone and 7 each for the S24 and Pixel. The last nighttime shot was the most impressive for me!
With the clock shot in the bottom right two of them are producing blue for the spot and the center comes up with a yellow. So, what is the correct color? I am betting it is Yellow. Having the right-hand shot eliminate that top right light cluster makes me wonder if it's just an artifact or is it eliminating an actual element form the shot. The Pixel and the s24 Ultra blue or completely remove that lighting in the top right corner and the Picxel changed the spotlight in the bottom corner from blue to yellow! I think the iPhone shot is the most realistic. It preserves the elements and provides accurate colours. It has softened the clock image a bit, but it has gotten the background correct. I feel like I could go there, and the image would be the closest to how I would see it with my own eyes.
My brother in Christ what? Megapixels don’t need nothing, it’s just software data. Sensor size and aperture decide how much light gets into the device. Measured usually in f-stops, or T-stops in cine lenses.

Weird comaprison
it doesn't matter, most of the major camera's which are made for low light photography and videos have a 12 mp sensor, even the samsung takes 12 mp photos in lowlight to get better lighting. every single sony camera which is specifically made for low light videography works through a 12mp sensor, more megapixels always requires more light!!! that's why 12 MP is a ssweet spot for these!!

As a samsung guy I have to call it like I see it. The iPhone wins. 🎉 Good job apple not enough for me to make the switch over. But at the beginning of the year the S25 will be here. I'm sure samsung is gonna step it up because iphone did. Let the battle begin then.
lol
Wait till ios 18.1 rolls out. They will tune up the camera more with software.

Hey when is the video coming out showing how to achieve 45W charging on the new iPhone 16 pro max
Use the Macbook charger, it's 60W at least, so the phone will limit back and only use 45W.
I had a one plus 65w charger which can do charge at 10w, 18w, 27w,45w and 65w. So it is charging my iphone 16 pro so fast
They tested it. It only works when your running a game while charging. Than it will get up to ~37 watts but as soon as you quit te game it drops back to ~27 watts like the 15 pro max while charging.

Are you guys sure you guys used a real S24U for all photos? Would love to do same photos with my S24U and compare.
Wow!

@@ideapagethe 16 pro max has a 48mp ultrawide lens while the 15 pro max has a 12mp ultrawide lens though
@@ideapagethey have different main sensor size if you googled it. 1/1.28 for the 15, and 1/1.14 for the 16. Lmk if im wrong.
From Google:
“The iPhone 16 Pro Max has several camera sensors with different sizes, including:
Main camera: 48MP Sony IMX903 sensor with a 1/1.14" sensor size
Ultrawide camera: 48MP sensor with a 1/2.6" sensor size
Telephoto camera: 12MP sensor with a 1/3.06" sensor size
Front camera: 12MP sensor with a 1/3.6" sensor size”
So the ultra wide lens sensor is 1/2.6" which is 25mm/31.5mm assuming a square sensor.
And the main lens sensor is 1/1.14” which is 25mm/28.5mm assuming a square sensor.
And from JerryRigEverything we know the sensors are not square. We still don’t know the actual sizes of each sensor. Why is that important? Well…
…again the focal length of what would be a normal lens is equal to the diagonal of the sensor. A wider angle would be shorter than the diagonal, and a telephoto longer than the diagonal. Actually it’s the length of a hypotenuse of one half of the sensor.
31.5mm squared = 992.25mm
25mm squared = 625m
And 992.25mm plus 626mm = 1617.25mm
The square root of 1617.25 = 40.21mm assuming the sensor is square.
And Apple’s terminology for the Main lens calls it a Wide lens, but not as wide as the Ultra Wide.
rocks aren't blue>? lol but she has a green tint all over on the picture you all chose, and its blurry! ya are wack in picking great pictures!
That’s a good idea as well!
Plus redo the stock apps as iOS 18 matures, ever know if Apple tunes some things for the newest phones with time

It was unbelievably close. I was shocked that I had the S24 Ultra barely ahead of the P9P, which was barely ahead of the 16PM. I feel like most years there is a bigger gap.
So, to break it down:
Main Lens- iPhone wins
Ultrawide Lens- iPhone wins
Telephoto Lens- Galaxy and Pixel trade blows
Front Camera- Pixel wins (by a country mile)🗿
Extra modes:
Portrait mode: iPhone and Galaxy trade blows (Pixel's is a disaster, my goodness☠️)
Macro shots: Pixel and Galaxy trade blows (tho it might have been a one-off when iPhone's messed up the focus, I dunno)
And then video wasn't mentioned here, but I'm pretty sure we all know that iPhone wins in that category by a landslide lol.
