Of all the tube pedals you've demoed Joe, THIS is the one for me. I LOVED that intro tune and i think it should become a staple on your videos because you're a great player and have improved a LOT over the years. Also, great job on bass and it sounded really cool super ovedriven
I have had several tube preamp pedals including the Kingsley, Kuda and others. But this one is really something. Nice and powerful and punchy. Nice riffing there too
I knew right away, when I saw this pedal, that you would be doing a review. Orange seems to be in your wheelhouse, so I knew you would put this thing through its paces. Sounds great! Probably my next purchase, as I already have a Beekeeper and love it. Glad to hear that it sounds completely different from the Beekeeper. Shows Olly is really putting some thought into his designs.
Sweet pedal and interesting comparison. I like the tone of the real amp over the IR, but if some mid frequencies were scooped from the IR it might sound even closer to the real thing.
Sounds killer. I look at classic overdriven tube amp tones like they are staples that never get old. I mean we still listen to violins and pianos playing music written 300 years ago. I personally don’t see a need for it to go the way of the dinosaur.
what speakers do you like in general if you only had one 4x12 cab? Celestion? Eminence? WGS? Fane? You said your not a fan of the v30, so Im curious, I will check them out myself. Ive been wanting to try something new for a change..I play mostly metal, so we might just have a different ear. I like the v30, but it can sound weird in some cabs and other variables. I think you can "EQ" your way through alot of it.
Speaker choice is _very_ dependent on the amps you're putting into them...for me though, I prefer 'classic' British circuits at low gain, so British voiced Alnico speakers are my favourite. But it's all personal preference - no correct answers :-) For metal, the V30 is a good choice - it's just not where I live!! Ceramics _generally_ better all round for metal.
@@JoePerkinsMusic Im a Brit-sound-guy all the way, I agree with you. If I was playing Vaughn, Guy etc, Id go alnico..but I play heavy rock, so Im more ceramic. Tight, punchy, reactive to EQ'ing..The alnicos too flubby on harder stuff to my little ears. lol. Thanks, your shows are entertaining, keep up the wonderful work. Bob
Joe, I have the Beekeeper and would love to hear a comparison to determine whether there is enough tonal differences to acquire the Sunkeeper. BTW, do you like being addressed as Joe or Perky? Love your videos.
Aha, I don't mind being addressed as either! :P The BK and SK are _very_ different pedals - so much so that there's probably not too much worth in comparing them directly. I'd personally say the BK is thinner in the low end and better suited to lower gain crunchy stuff; the SK is all about that gainy Channel 2 for some thicker distortion. Both are great. I am thinking of making a bigger feature on tube pedals soon though, so the two will likely be a part of that :-)
So Perky it is! Given your response it seems like I can use my Orange Two Stroke to get my Beekeeper close to the Sunkeeper. where I know close is relative. Have fun.
You need to get them directly from Olly at Tubesteader and import them...as far as I'm aware, they're all built to order! He ships internationally all the time though (I'm in the UK)
always hated the Vintage 30...15, 20, 25 , 30 watt speakers are perfect, the Celestion 50 Gold? What a thump they produce in a 4 x 12 cab..pretty amazing...great pedal too
The opening was good. This is the was to go when you have time and energy.
It was fun doing it - it just adds a day onto making the video, and I'm sadly not able to routinely do that. :-(

Well done mate! The real amp setup still outshines the IR setup by quite a noticeable measure.
I don't know how I missed this vid. Love the opening track format! I also love your playing style. Cheers!
those pups sound fantastic. Comes through great in the demo imo. You gave a great demo of the rythm capabilities, fat, fuzzy, monster lowend.
Another awesome video Joe!
Wow. Amazing intro tune.
Great pedal

Really enjoy the Beekeeper, may have to pick this one up too!
Sounds absolutely killer!

It's the MkI

Very good Intro - interesting video - do you know where i can get these pedals in europe or germany? Greetings

@@JoePerkinsMusic thanks
He should make a F Brownface 'keeper' and call it the "Dreamcatcher"
