I think how it clips you through walls is when you throw cappy while backflipping, it pushes you back a little bit and pushes you back if you are up to a wall, so the moon cancels the animation that pushes you back, and keeps you out of bounds
Great video, but I’m not sure if I agree. Yes, moon clips are very useful in any% (and other categories) I don’t think they’re as game breaking as you describe. While yes, more and more moon clip locations are being discovered, there’s still only a handful of locations where they’re useful. I’d consider something like a CRC much more game breaking, as it can truly interrupt the game’s intended path in significant ways. Yes, it’s not useful in any%, but it breaks the game far more than just being able to clip out of bounds when you collect specific moons.
You make some good points, however, I have two counterpoints that I didnt mention in the video. These counterpoints are simply theorizing, similar to how you theorize the CRC's potential future. 1) There are certain moons that can be moved around in the game such as the rock moon. If we could some how moon clip more than one time with a moon that can be moved around, that would be insanely broken. Would this ever be possible? No, probably not. But if we had a way of indefinitely storing a moon, then we could literally just clip out of bounds anywhere in the game. 2) I mentioned how the moon clip influenced other tricks such as giggler. Well, there are more of these damage clips and I think we will see an era in which we use the same or at least similar techniques as the moon clip to do certain tricks just with different objects or enemies!! All in all, the fun part of speedrunning is that there is always so much potential for something cool to happen and even just writing this comment and reading yours makes me happy because it helps to spark fun discussion.
@@AntoGAgreed. It would be insane if rock moons could be used for moon clips (I’m also not crossing my fingers though). I’m not sure if moon clips actually inspired the damage clip in the boss fight. To me, they just look like different clips that both use a backflip. The wiggler clip reminds me of the clip in the luncheon cheese room to get the secret moon captureless. I also appreciate a calm discussion; things on the internet get heated pretty easily.
so when you do rock clip, you have to wait for that lever animation, scale up the wall, and then when you do the clip you are farther away from the out of bounds moon. with nut clip, you not only skip all of that, but you are then closer to the out of bounds moon. thats why it saves exponentially more time!
absolutely a damage clip but the INPUTS to do the trick are about identical too a moon clip. only difference being youre using an enemy rather than a moon. different types of clip but same concept
im extra proud of this video.

All the videos recently have been great! Keep it up brother!
As you should be. It’s a great video

I’d say Instant Roll Cancels, since they can be used in way more places than just moon clips
