The Leafs did plenty of gambling against the Jets with that lead although the Oilers took things much further lol against the Blue Jackets via having given up of defending the neutral zone over and over again in a 6-1 loss at Nationwide Arena.
Easily the worst part of this podcast - really enjoy Mike and Dave and agree with most of their takes, but the Content to Ad Ratio is outrageous lol.... Cable television used to be like 2.75:1 a 30 min episode would have 22 min of content and 8 min of commercials. Podcasting was made popular by people like Joe Rogan in the early days his episodes would be nearly 3 hours, with only 8-10mins of ads at the beginning that were easily skipped, we are very quickly heading back towards cable tv model.... This show is like 15 mins of ads and 30 mins of content, I get they need to make money, but if you're going to do 15 mins of ads you better at least make the episode an hour.
The Leafs have played 4 straight games of at least four goals they have allowed. As much as the win over the Jets was a turnaround, the Leafs need to find a way to allow fewer than three goals per game on a much more consistent basis because if they don't, I'm worried they will lose a whole bunch of games once again. Just ask fans of the Oilers how they feel after another stinker of a game against a team that last season came nowhere close to a playoff spot (a 6-1 loss to the Blue Jackets on the second game the Oilers had played under 24 hours apart, with such a series of games the Leafs have managed to get points in one this regular season but not the other).
To be fair, all Jets goals were with the man advantage, so it was a way better game defensively overall. Leafs allowed 0 goals against this game 5 on 5. That's a step forward. Jets have been dinamite in the Power Play and man advantage, so kudos to them. But Leafs still has 80.5% PK, which is way better than last year. We take what we get man. Baby steps towards a higher goal. GLG
The win by the Leafs was a step in the right direction, and hopefully will result ultimately in more games during which they allow two goals or less. That said, goaltending, beyond Stolarz, leaves a lot to be desired, and I’m concerned Coach Bérubé will over play him because there’s really nobody else who has played as many games or as well in such games as Stolarz has. The Canucks three seasons ago overplayed Thatcher Demko, with the season after that having resulted in a near-three-month injury stint during which neither Collin Delia nor Spencer Martin would end up providing relatively competent goaltending in Demko‘s absence. TBD, with Demko still out due to injury, they find a goalie other than just Kevin Lankinen to provide read to be competent goaltending, something the Canucks this regular season have yet to do. This Leaf season may end without a playoff appearance because Joe Woll and Dennis Hildeby become unplayable, forcing GM Treliving to rely on other minor-league callups.
@@wainber1 Honestly, Woll is already very good. He's coming back from another injury, which is the concerning part. Hildeby I feel is not ready for the NHL yet, but he showed promise too. We also have Murray playing relatively well in the AHL, so honestly I don't feel that weary about our Goaltending situation. Hopefully Woll can keep healthy, and with that I think we have a solid 1A, 1B with Stolie and Woll. Right now Stolie is 2 steps ahead but I trust Woll to get there
@ I would like to believe Woll will return to sufficiently full health and provide solid goaltending that the Leafs will need from any such goalie they use. How soon either of those crucial aspects happens, if either ever again does, still remains TBD.
How many times has Nylander at center been tried? And he doesn't make sense as a center because he has no defense. But let's try it again, and again, and again... Marner padua all situations. One of the best play makers in the game. Plays both sides of the puck. PP, PK, 5v5, final minute of the game. And I've seen him win faceoffs this season. Why not try him at center rather than Nylander? Imagine this: Knies - Matthews- Domi Nylander - Marner - McMann (Robertson) Pacioretti - Tavares - Robertson (McMann)
Honestly your assessment is pretty accurate, Marner is waaaaaay better defensively, but honestly neither him or Nylander are built for C in the NHL. Centers in the NHL have to play a very physical game and block shots, Marner isn't nearly tough enough to be a center in the NHL.
@@morris1345 He might surprise you. He didn't perform well last playoffs, but people forget that he went into them coming off an injury so was likely playing injured, and the season before, he was the hero after blocking two shots in a row on big a PK. You might be right about Marner, but rather than trying Nylander year after year, why not try it?
When they were swapping draft picks, Dubas was picking munchkins and Hunter was buying lotto tickets on monster Dmen. The Leafs picked the wrong guy. What's gonna happen with Marner? The guy that played 40% of the game against the Bruins? The player the Leafs depend on for everything doesn't seem like the best place to be cutting back on your payroll. Trade Liljegren to the Pens. Dubas will give something back for a small skilled guy because skill always has great value.
Mike's favourite phrase "alright let's take a break and talk about a gambling ad"
Locked on ads
