I create digital signage content for our local cinema. To be able to create looping cinemagraphs with boris optics seems really interesting. I am bout to get optics!
I finally took the plunge and bought a new license for Optics 2022. I got the wonderful Cyber Monday deal. Thank you to the Optics team and making this wonderful application. I think it will be worth every shiny penny I spend on the software. Love you guys. 🌺🏵🌹
Great to hear! There's an Optics livestream happening today (29th November 2022) so maybe we'll see you there, or catch you on the replay.
OMG I am loving this update...! Raiding all the old pics and playing with them now - might as well say I am MIA to wife as she is not seeing me for the next few days !
Thank you so much Sensei! You are a blessing!

How do I get this update? I have Optics 2022 but it doesn't show as an update in the application.
The new installer will be on the website in the next few hours. Thanks for your patience. It will be here: borisfx.com/downloads/?product=optics
@@BorisFXco Awesome. Thanks!
I just got optics as a monthly subscription. I installed it on my home pc but i want to use it on my work machine also. Would that be possible without extra costs?
You will have to deactivate it on your home PC when you want to activate it on your work PC, and vice versa. It's in the Help menu under License. Hope that helps.
why when I launch particle illusion does it only export the effect layer to the particle illusion interface?
That's the way the API works. If you want to see any other layers you have created, you'll need to make a flattened copy (preferably turned into a smart object afterwards) and work on that. You can render out only the particles back to Photoshop if you prefer.
Thanks for the info but that’s not how it works on this instruction video. @ 1:50 where it says to render this out as an animation, select the particle illusion button to launch the interface then you can play the animation in the timeline, the image of the coffee cup and the smoke layer seem to be exported together. Nowhere does it say to make a flattered copy etc……I have done exactly the same thing but when selecting the particle illusion button it just takes the top layer of the animation……. Where do i make the flattened copy? In Optics or PHotoshop? This is confusing! Thanks!
Sorry I misunderstood the problem. If you're only seeing the particles in Particle Illusion and not the background, then you probably just need to change the viewer option. Above the viewer there is a button with a little red play button on it. Press that and choose Composite Over Source. Then you'll see the layer you applied Optics too. Sorry for the confusion.
If you're still having problems, please join us on the forums, where you can paste screenshots of what you're seeing. It's easier to diagnose that way. forum.borisfx.com/
No worries. It's near to the Presets and Zoom buttons. Just find the Presets button at the top of the viewer and it is two buttons to the right of that. It may just be an unassuming rectangle for you, which is why it is tricky to find (and why it's getting a face lift!)
I cant seem to get this to work, when i launch Particle illusion i get a message saying "Preview resolution is not full resolution, rendering from Particle illusion will not be full resolution" Then when i launch it, the screen just has smoke and not my image. Any ideas if possible? Thanks
You can set Optics to be full resolution in the viewer (above your image). And then when you launch Particle Illusion, to see the particles over your image, select the icon in the viewer to show Particles over the source. This is the thrid icon from the left above the viewer.
@@BorisFXco wow thanks so much for the quick reply appreciate that. Just had a look there and indeed you are correct. Thanks a million 👍
Now I'll try get lighting to strike slowly 😂😂
I also bought Optics during Black Friday & so far since then, I haven't been able to stay off it! Trying to replicate the coffee as practice, but no image results in PI. What settings do I need to change to get this to work?
Can you please post your setup in the forums with a couple of screenshots of your settings in Optics and Particle Illusion. I'm sure it's just a little parameter somewhere. Here's the link : forum.borisfx.com/
Actually, I just had a thought. In Particle Illusion at the top of the stage/viewer there is a little gray box with a red button in there to the left of Render View. Click on that and select Composite over Source Video. It is probably set to Composite over Black.
@Boris FX Hi. Thanks for responding. I went to the forums & found that very answer, & that was the solution. But now, I ran into another problem with rendering & getting an error message, which I also tried to find a fix for there on the forum. I'll see if someone comes up with a solution there. I'd love to try out these cinemagraphs, though. They're very intriguing.
Figured out how to get the image to show in PI, but I have a different issue. I create a mask that shows in Optics, but when I look at it in PI, the emitter is going beyond where the mask should be. So how do I get the mask I create in Optics to work in PI?
Masks in Optics work in Optics. If you want to stop things in Particle Illusion you should look at deflectors and forces. They will affect the particle simulation, which is the effect you want I think.
