  • At the time of this video’s production, 122 747-8s are flying.
    While the freighter version of the 747-8 officially finished in January, the last passenger jumbo was delivered to Korean Air in 2017. It remains in regular passenger service alongside 24 other 747-8s operating long-haul transatlantic and trans-Pacific routes. Air China continues to operate two; Korean Air keeps eight in its fleet, while the largest operator, Lufthansa, has 15 of the last generation super jumbos.

    Despite the passenger variants retiring, the cargo operators will still fly them for decades.

      Agreed and I can see the cargo companies purchasing more from the used market as the demand for cargo transport increases. Both for additions to the fleet as well as for parts. Long live the Queen!

      I live 20 miles north of Anchorage and see 747s all the time on clear days. The ones heading to eastern US pass just south of here a few miles up. They have a different sound than the twins. I worked assembling the old JT-9 engines that powered 747s back in the late 1970s.

    We flew on Lufthansa’s 747-8 last year on the SFO to FRA leg of our trip to Greece. I was so happy they brought back the 747 so my young kids dolls experience it. My 7 year old was in disbelief about how something so large and heavy could fly.

      @@KarmaFlight We shall see. I don't think KE really knows what it's going to with it's fleet in general with the pending merger. They really don't have that many widebody aircraft on order other than 30 787s. Their fleet has always been all over the place with too many types for their size.

    The 747SP, flown by Las Vegas Sands, mentioned, was unfortunately scrapped due to hurricane damage to the hanger, and in turn, the aircraft (the hurricane blew open the hanger doors and the 2 jets inside the hanger spun around like tops, colliding with one another and onto the hanger structure).

    Always great videos, was recently in SIN, and was surprised to see Lufthansa 747 pull up to the gate. Hoping to fly on her sometime this year, last time flew on a 747 was on EVA from YVR-TPE. Have since been replaced by a 777, not the same comfort level as the 747. Worked on a 747 back in the 90's, old Wardair aircraft, being used by Nationair, C-FFUN. Great aircraft to work....miss those days.

    The 747-8 should have been launched around 2000.
    You had the advantage around this time before the A380 and twin jet era.
    Many airlines were replacing early 747s built prior to 1990 around or slightly before the year 2000.

    • @johniii8147
      @johniii8147 Год назад +1

      Wouldn't have really changed the outcome for the passenger version. Airlines were already well into to switching to twins and the 777-300ER was starting to take off in sales. Boeing always knew it wasn't going to be a big passenger seller and made a LOT more money off the 777-300ER
