  • Many manufacturers turn to CNC routing and milling machines for custom-built parts. But what is the difference between a CNC router and a CNC mill? They both perform similar functions but have very different characteristics. You use them with different materials, and you have to be mindful of their production capabilities as you work with them.

    This is all complete b.s.
Machinist here-10 years, dont listen to this computer clown. A router is for wood, plastic, sheet metal, etc. Mills are for precision and can cut about any material (assuming its like, a real professional mill and not like, an amazon GRBL or whatever). @5:00 or so he starts talking about how if you have multiples, you should go with a router... No? CNC is CNC, get stops set up, they will both run as quickly as you can load and unload them... in fact, the rigidity of the Mill, I would think, would allow you to 'push it' a little with a mill vs router.
Router if: huge, precision isnt so important, soft material.
mill if: Its metal (or harder tahn aluminum), precision is needed, you have many to run.
I worked in a shop where the router was in teh same department as the saw and laser. We cleaned/'precised' everything up with a mill or lathe in our "op 2" department. often we used router parts for body parts/panels
