Beefheart and The Velvets mitigate the inclusion of Yes. I'm of the same mind as Jello Biafra. If I'm locked up at GITMO, and you decide to blast music at me to get me to crack, blast Owner Of A Lonely Heart. I'll tell ya anything. Love the new production value. I just stumbled across Lou's version of See That My Grave Is Kept Clean on youtube. Praise Bob for youtube. Had no idea it existed. Been listening to Lou since Rock n Roll Animal in 74. To discover what nearly is my fave Lou track 50 years later is such a gift. Just glad I discovered it before I became worm food.
My personal 10: 1. Yes (especially 1970-1978) 2. The Beatles 3. The Charlatans UK 4. The Moody Blues (1967-1981) 5. Free/Bad Co (1968-1982) 6. Led Zeppelin 7. Pink Floyd (1966-1980) 8. Dead Can Dance 9. Genesis (1972-1980) 10. Humble Pie
A great top 10, here's my top 10: Honorable mentions: Queen, Rolling Stones, Morphine, Primus, Sparks, Santana, Mothers of Invention, Velvet Underground 10. Kinks 9. Alan Parsons Project 8. Talking Heads 7. Wings 6. Pink Floyd 5. Doors 4. Radiohead 3. Led Zeppelin 2. Fleetwood Mac 1. The Beatles (of course!)
1. The Beatles 2. The Kinks 3. The Beach Boys 4. The Rolling Stones 5. The Who 6. Led Zeppelin 7. Elvis Costello and the Attractions 8. Sloan 9. Blur 10. Deep Purple
Hmmm.... What could possibly be the #1 pick from my favorite Beatles RUclipsr Canadian Studmuffin? Don't tell me! It's the Quarrymen, right?😅 Hope you're doing well, sir. Great content as always. 👍
Larry,my top ten bands are the Beatles,Wings, the Rolling Stones, the Who,the Kinks, the Searchers,Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band, the Jimi Hendrix Experience,Led Zeppelin and the Beach Boys. Bob
The Beatles are #1 . To go from She Loves You to Revolution 9 in 5 years! I listened to Come Together yesterday and what struck me was what excellent musicians they were. The interplay between the instruments was similar to jazz musicians. #2 The Rolling Stones 3. Led Zeppelin 4 .The Clash 5 .Roxy Music 6 .Steely Dan 7. The Doors 8 .The Cars 9 .Yes 10. Talking Heads
I remember that you did a similar video in the late 2000's. It was groundbreaking to see a man just calmly talking about his favourite music. Glad that you still doing this. BIG SMILE ! ))
10. Steve Miller Band 9. Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble 8. The Kinks 7. Creedence Clearwater Revival 6. The Rolling Stones 5. The Who 4. The Beatles 3. Led Zeppelin 2. Pink Floyd 1. The Doors
That's a mighty tall task to round up 10 bands as my favorite. Just for the several albums they made in the 80s and early 90's, REM has to be on my list. Those records still mesmerize and amaze me...and of course, The Beatles have to be there...I almost want to say, TALK TALK, as their final two albums, "Spirit of Eden" and "Laughing Stock" are possibly my very favorite listening experience back-to-back. Ah, the infinite choices...
Great list! Here's mine... 1. Led Zeppelin, 2. The Doors, 3. Jimi Hendrix, 4. The Rolling Stones, 5. The Beatles, 6. Rush, 7. Yes, 8. Radiohead, 9. Steely Dan, 10. The Smiths.
Lucky that I will see or have seen already my 3 favorite bands of all time this year # 1 - The Cure , # 2 Depeche Mode & # 3 Slowdive. Other Top 10 .. Love , The Cars , The Doors , Joy Division ➗️ / New Order , The Doors , Cheap Trick & Siouxsie & The Banshees.
Currently for me my top ten are these. I've given a brief summary of the top five on why I love them. 10. Simon And Garfunkel 9. Fleetwood Mac 8. Radiohead 7. Muse 6. Blur 5. King Crimson - I love aggressive music with extreme technicality. King Crimson does that in spades. Especially Larks' Tounges In Aspic through to Red. 4. ELP - my first love in prog. Keith Emerson is an incredible keyboard player and Greg Lake might be my favourite singer. 3. R.E.M. - the 80s albums are great but the 90s absolutely blow me away even Up. 2. The Beatles - it's an obvious pick but what's wrong with that. 1. Yes - I adore every album of there's (even union) every lineup of the band made incredible music. Line up one had Astral Traveller and Time And A Word. Line up two had the entirety of The Yes Album. Number three made Fragile and Close To The Edge. Then Bill Bruford joined King Crimson and Alan White was brought into the fold. They made Tales From Topographic Oceans (my favourite album ever). Then with Patrick Moraz they made Relayer (Featuring The Gates Of Delirium a song I currently have an obsession over). Rick Wakeman returned for Going For The One and Tormato (Featuring some really underrated tracks). Then the more new wave edge of Drama makes a nice unique listen. Trevor Rabin in the 80s had some great tracks. TALK is also a great album. Keys To Ascension, The Ladder and Magnification are great. Three of the greatest late career albums. And the new Line up isn't to bad either, Mirror To The Sky is phenomenal.
Enjoyed your list. So many of mine are solo. But here are my 10 bands…. 1. Led Zeppelin 2. Rolling Stones 3. Jethro Tull 4. Beatles 5. Cheap Trick 6. Allman Brothers Band 7. Van Halen 8. The Band 9. Velvet Underground 10. Alice Cooper Band
Thanks for the video Larry. Here's my top 10: 1. The Guess Who 2. The Beach Boys 3. The Doors 5. Procol Harum 6. Bachman-Turner Overdrive 7. Cream 8. Free 9. Steely Dan 10. The Rolling Stones
My top 10 favourite rock bands are: 1. Pink Floyd 2. The Velvet Underground 3. The Doors 4. King Crimson 5. The Mothers of Invention 6. Soft Machine 7. Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band 8. The Who 9. The Rolling Stones 10. Talking Heads

When you showed us 'Yes' at #4 I knew what the next 3 were without even watching. (Though of coarse I watched) Guess I've been watching you for years, so I should know a bit about your taste. Keep up the great work Larry!
I love this list. All the bands are great. I'm getting into Sparks because of you. I feel like this band should have done better in the US. Their home country!
1) The Pixies 2) Nirvana 3) The Beatles 4) Mr. Bungle 5) Radiohead 6) Soundgarden 7) Faith No More 8) My Bloody Valentine (Loveless/mbv) 9) The White Stripes 10) Stone Temple Pilots (w/ Scott Weiland) #’s 3 - 5 are easily the best bands on my list imo, but things like nostalgia and personal inspiration are big factors in my overall ranking.
Love the new video Larry, I love some of these bands especially Beatles, Led Zep, Stones and Velvet Underground. Been watching your videos for a long time now and you have become my favourite RUclipsr. Keep doing what you are doing, it's good. Also I would love if you do a video about your David Bowie collection sometime.
Cool list Larry! I was shocked by your #1 pick! 😉 Here's my Top 10 along with 5 recommended songs and honorable mentions: 10. Deep Purple (Speed King, Lazy, Child in Time, Highway Star, Burn) 9. The Doors (Riders on the Storm, Peace Frog, The End, L.A Woman, The Crystal Ship) 8. Pink Floyd (Shine on You Crazy Diamond Parts 1&2, The Great Gig in the Sky, Echoes, Dogs, Hey You) 7. Tool (The Grudge, Eulogy, Lateralus, Rosetta Stoned, Invincible) 2. Pearl Jam (Release, Go, Hail Hail, Unthought Known, Light Years) 1. The Tragically Hip/Led Zeppelin (Nautical Disaster, At the Hundredth Meridian, Grace Too, Gift Shop, Long Time Running/ Kashmir, Achilles Last Stand, No Quarter, Black Dog, Ten Years Gone) HM: Metallica, Kiss, Fleetwood Mac, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, The Tea Party, Thin Lizzy, Steely Dan, Jethro Tull, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Aerosmith, Guns N' Roses, I Mother Earth, The Who, The Beatles, Rage Against the Machine/Audioslave, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rival Sons, Gojira, Mastodon.
Sparks are awesome. Thank you Larry. I’m boring because the top 5 or 6 of my list never changes but 10 is a surprise - I can’t deny them... an unintentional cryptic clue for those familiar with Maiden. I will add my favourite album and a favourite song, out of many, for good measure: 1 Iron Maiden - Piece of Mind - Infinite Dreams 2 AC/DC - Powerage - Shot Down in Flames 3 Black Sabbath - Master of Reality - Snowblind 4 Judas Priest - Sad Wings of Destiny - Evil Fantasies 5 T. Rex - The Slider - Ballrooms of Mars 6 Led Zeppelin - ’Zoso’ - When the Levee Breaks 7 The Doors - Morrison Hotel - The Changeling 8 The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Axis: Bold As Love - Spanish Castle Magic 9 The Rolling Stones - Exile on Main St - Stray Cat Blues 10 The Beatles - ’White Album’ - All I’ve Got to Do
Hi Larry! I'm really glad you put Sparks so high on the list (even if I knew you would). You introduced me to the Mael brothers and I FELL I LOVE! I started listening to them in February i think...and i can't stop! Easily one if not THE best band ever!
A few of these groups I rarely listen to these days, but they’re in my list because I was a big fan in my teenage years. - top ten favorite bands.. 10. Chicago. (Strictly 69’ to about 76’ - Terry Kath era - afterwards dreadful 😬). 9. The Marshall Tucker Band. (Easily my favorite of the Southern Rock Bands..) 8. America. (A bit of a “guilty pleasure”) 7. The Monkees. (Another “guilty pleasure” and arguably not a band at all?) 6. Belle & Sebastian (The only post-seventies group to make my list). 5. The Wailers (Original lineup with Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer) 4. The Velvet Underground 3. The Rolling Stones 2. The Beach Boys 1. The Beatles - Nice video Larry 👍
Top 10 of all time, that was a tough one to compile (I have excluded stuff that people tend to see as solo artists like Springsteen or Hendrix, makes stuff easier). Anyways, here is what I think looks good to me: 1. Gov't Mule 2. Led Zepplin 3. Pink Floyd 4. The Allman Brothers Band 5. Soundgarden 6. ZZ Top 7. Dave Matthews Band 8. Fleetwood Mac 9. The Black Crowes 10. James Gang Honorable mention * SUSU, according to Spotify data, they are one of my top 5 bands and I love them to death but they haven't even released an album yet (And, no, I did not forget the Beatles.)
My top ten favorite Rock bands are: 01- The Beatles 02- Electric Light Orchestra 03- Led Zeppelin 04- Pink Floyd 05- The Beach Boys 06- Oasis 07- The Rolling Stones 08- Metallica 09- Radiohead 10- The Velvet Underground

What a pleasure to follow you through your Top Ten band list. I love to agree with you in your No. 1 position: „The Beatles they did it all“ as you said.- Here are some suggestions for my numbers two to ten: 2. Pink Floyd 3. Moody Blues 4. The Beach Boys 5. Fleetwood Mac 6. Yes 7. America 8. Kinks 9. Small Faces 10. Steppenwolf (11. Procol Harum😉maybe Poco)

Looking at my list I’m intrigued that, despite the fact that you and I are only a fear years apart in age (I think I’m about three years younger), our lists are so different in terms of when our bands were active. You have a much heavier leaning toward the 1960s and 1970s. It seems I should be with you in that regard, since I had an older brother and sister who introduced me to a lot of those “early” bands, but for some reason I went my own way. I attempted to rank these but as you know, things can change. But there’s no question about my number one. Sorry for the long post… 10. Starflyer 59: Guitar-heavy Christian band with a cult following. Output is a bit spotty for my tastes, but they’ve put out a lot of material and when they’re good, oh man. 9. Steely Dan: I prefer their pre-Aja material; without those earlier albums, they wouldn’t make this list. 8. Talking Heads: I’m kind of surprised they made my list but maybe it’s because I share their art school upbringing. 7. Electric Light Orchestra: The albums post-Balance of Power don’t do a lot for me, and even the earlier albums have some weak spots. But I went from hating to absolutely loving Time, so maybe there’s hope for the lesser albums too. 6. Sparks: You’ve pretty much said anything I might say about Sparks. But I’ll add this: a “best-of” derived from their three most recent albums would be totally KILLER. 5. XTC: I’m not among those who worship at the feet of Andy Partridge, but he’s certainly got a gift, I can’t deny it. I’m including albums recorded under the Dukes of Stratosphear name. 4. They Might Be Giants: These guys should probably take a few years off from touring and recording, since their last several albums have been very spotty. But they have so much material, and so many great songs -- nice SHORT songs that never wear out their welcome. 3. Crowded House: Neil Finn has been such a great songwriter, and he can sing, too. 2. 10cc: Sentimentality might be why I rank these guys so high - they were my first favorite band back in high school. And of course I’m talking out the ORIGINAL 10cc, before Godley & Creme split. (I wish Stewart and Gouldman retired the 10cc name after that. Oh well.) There are only four albums from the original line-up, but those albums are jam-packed with so much fun and intrigue. They spoiled me - I thought all I’d need to do is find more bands like 10cc and I’d be set for life. Didn’t quite work out that way. 1. Daniel Amos: This is an obscure Christian band, and unquestionably my favorite. When I add in the albums recorded as The Swirling Eddies (a kind of Dukes of Stratosphear thing), they rise even higher. Creative frontman Terry Scott Taylor is criminally underrated and unknown in the larger world so I'll mention him any chance I get.
Love The Velvet Underground, their third album is one of my all time favourite records. I never include The Beatles when I talk about my favourite bands, I don't think of them as a band, they're just a part of me in a way
Larry I had to laugh (affectionately) when, after dismissing a litany of great bands, also rans, 😳 You gave us your No.10 Captain Beefheart. I swear your voice changed timbre a bit and you sounded a bit timid or dare I see defensive. You are a Captain BRAVE-heart! 🤣🤣 I’d put the Doors and the Monkees in my top ten - my personal bias 😘 BUT it is TRULY difficult
Great list - I have to admit that many I've heard of but not really listened to. I'd be torn with 1st and 2nd - I'd be inclined to switch them due to the larger discography of Sparks (despite a few misfires En-Route). I'd have to throw TRex (and Tyrannosaurus Rex) alongside The Who into the mix. I'll check out your Spotify listing if they'll let me (because I don't pay them!) 🎵😻
The Doors Love Jimi Hendrix Experience Led Zeppelin Pink Floyd Beatles The Who Rolling Stones Black Sabbath Thin Lizzy Could be on the list too: The Velvet Underground, The Byrds, The Kinks, UFO, AC/DC, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Stooges, CCR, ZZ Top, King Crimson, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Yes, Genesis, Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Santana, Big Star..
My list is gonna be impulsive. Off the top of my head: 1. The Beatles 2. The Rolling Stones 3. The Who 4. Deep Purple 5. Black Sabbath 6. CCR 7. The Kinks 8. Led Zeppelin 9. Zappa 10. The Byrds
I honestly thought SPARKS would have been #1, but I knew before you said it that The Beatles would be #1! Of course it is! I can't deny the impact they had on so many musicians. You know what I have for SPARKS and I do have a couple of Beatles' Albums, just 'Sargent Pepper..' and a greatest hits (I would love to get more for sure.) But sadly I don't have anything from those other bands (I do want to pick up stuff from many of them,) but I do have Beefheart's 'Safe As Milk' and I love it!
"Murmur" and "Fables of the Reconstruction" are my R.E.M faves. They were a great band. Via interviews, the band turned me onto The Replacements. Another favorite band of mine...
My Top 10 Favorite Bands: (10) The Police (09) Eagles (08) Fleetwood Mac (07) The Doors (06) The Who (05) Pink Floyd (04) The Beach Boys (03) Led Zeppelin (02) The Rolling Stones (01) The Beatles
I honestly knew your top 2 bands ! Sparks for me always ranks between 11-15 and have 12 cd's of theirs. That is very high considering the band is virtually unknown to many, and it's one of the reasons I've been following your channel for 14 years & you understanding their greatness . My top 3 never change...... 1. Jethro Tull 2. E.L.P 3. Gentle Giant ! 😍🐺
Difficult but here we go: 1.Led Zeppelin (Still no 1 on my list. I still remember when I listened their 1:st album for the first time. It knocked me out completely) 2. Mountain (Didn't make a lot of albums but the first two were awsome, such a talented band and Pappalardi was a songwriting genious.) 3. King Crimson (No 1 of the prog rock bands if you ask me) 4. Sir Lord Baltimore (only made two albums before their late comeback, but those albums were absolutely awesome) 5. Blue Öyster Cult 6. Black Sabbath 7. Pink Floyd 8. UFO 9. The Rolling Stones (Would have been higher up in the 70:ies and 80:ies. They were great from 68 to 74(ish) though) 10. The Beatles (Only started to listen to them in recent years. Nowadays I can even listen to the early stuff. Originally I was always a Stones man. I still skip Paul's Granny songs though😊) Bands which just missed out: Lucifers Friend Deep Purple Humble Pie The Amboy Dukes Queens of the stone age Small Faces Neil Young & Crazy horse would have been on the list if considered a band
Thanks for a great video! It really must have cost you some consideration. At least I don't think I would be able to make such a list. There's too many bands I like. But like you I would put Beatles in the very top. Not sure who would follow at number two. Maybe The Who. And then I really have many doubts. I don't think I would ever come to actually finish the list in a way I felt sure about.
Thanks for this list, and also for the Spotify playlist so we can listen to all those bands in one place. I agree with you on your choices of number one and number two, the rest I might feel different about, but I very much respect your taste.
Very solid list! My top 10 "bands" would look like this.... 10. Chicago 09. Rush 08. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers 07. ZZ Top 06. The Police 05. The Jimi Hendrix Experience 04. Frank Zappa & The Mothers 03. Steely Dan 02. Van Halen 01. The Beatles
1. Beatles 2. Kinks 3. Who 4. Beach boys 5. Byrds 6. Led zeppelin 7. Pink floyd 8. Captain beefheart 9. Velvet underground 10. Suede I really need to check out grand funk railroad sometime
Hi Larry. Its good an update of this list that you did as "Best Rock Bands" some years ago. For me, its difficult but I would put my list based in the amount of records of each band. Mi top favorite rock bands are: 1.- THE BEATLES 2.- QUEEN 3.- DEEP PURPLE 4.- R.E.M. 5.- RADIOHEAD 6.- YES / CREAM ( Maybe I'm cheating but I put this bands along with Deep Purple with the best musicians you can find in rock bands) 7.- THE ROLLING STONES 8.- THE DOORS 9.- LED ZEPPELIN / AC DC (Two exciting hard rock bands that shake every wall of any house) 10.- CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL Difficult to find only 10 bands and I put a draw in positions 6 and 9. Greetings from México.
I tried to guess what your top ten would be but you threw a curve ball including bands that could be solo artists..🤬🤬🤬🤬very surprised your #4 was not #3..Two and one were a no brainer for a Muffin Of Stud..great video Larry❤❤❤👍glen
Glad to see Sparks at #2! I’d have to really concentrate to do a ranking like this, but if I’m being off the cuff… 1. The Beatles 2. now it’s hard… Probably Sparks, then NRBQ, then argh…too many great bands. Though I’m really kind of over R.E.M. these days, they should somehow make my top ten. I gotta include J. Geils Band too.
My top 10 favorites 1. The Beatles (Obviously 💁♂️) 2. The Wailers 3. Queen 4. The Rolling Stones 5. The Crickets 6. The Doors 7. Black Sabbath 8. The Jimi Hendrix Experience 9. Duran Duran 10. The Ramones

Thanks, as always, Fellow Canadian. Great list (and I appreciate that you named some of the ones that didn't make the cut at the beginning; otherwise, I would have been on edge waiting to hear where Queen and Genesis fit in).
Zeppelin, the Who, Neil Young, the Allman Brothers, Little Feat, REM, U2, Hendrix, Floyd, the Grateful Dead....and many, many others from all over the map....

Ones not mentioned in your opening bit nor in your top 10: Most obviously The Who and then there's U2, REM, The Band, Fleetwood Mac (not one of my choices but many people love them), The Eagles (see Fleetwood Mac); Supertramp, Steely Dan, Bad Company, AC/DC, The Cars, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (does that count as a band?); Elvis Costello and the Attractions (see Tom Petty); Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band (see Tom Petty again); Neil Young and Crazy Horse (see Tom Petty again); Simon and Garfunkel (see Tom Petty again); David Bowie and the Spiders from Mars (see Tom Petty again); Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band; Bob Dylan and the Silver Heartbreaking Crazy Attractive Garfunkel Spiders from E Street (you can't have a top 10 rock list without Bob Dylan); Aerosmith (the '70s version); Lynyrd Skynyrd; Pearl Jam; Grateful Dead; Pretenders (amazing debut album gets them over the line) and finally in respect of your No. 1 choice -- Wings.
I thought very highly of the Doors. I acquired the whole collection, that strenghtened my idea they were very good. And then I saw a live performance of the Doors (by the Doors Alive). After that, they shifted from excellent band to Greatest Band Of All Time and good luck if you try to steal their Crown because EVERYTHING about this band is phenomenal.
The Beatles definitely number 1. Early Stones in my top 5. Several of your honorable mention would probably be in my top 10 are CCR, the Kinks, the Guess who, the Monkees, and Queen.
1) The Beatles and then there's kind of 2 tiers of groups...for some reason, these don't add up to 10 T-2) The Who T-2) Led Zeppelin T-2) Rush T-2) Pink Floyd T-6) REM T-6) U2 T-6) King Crimson T-6) Guided By Voices T-6) Elvis Costello & The Attractions T-6) Sleater-Kinney T-6) Genesis T-6) Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
I have the beatles number one..the rolling stones at number two.. then the who...led Zeppelin...the velvet underground...the guess who...the grateful dead..aerosmith... the quicksilver messenger service and the jefferson airplane
I don't share a lot of your list. (for me The Doors, The Grateful Dead, CCR, The Who, Fleetwood Mac etc.) However I do agree that there is the Beatles ... ... and everyone else.
Hi Larry, I dig your Ummagumma pink floyd intro! I agree with Beatles being so far above all other bands, BUT not above Bob Dylan. In my opinion Bob Dylan is as far above the Beatles as the Beatles are above all other bands. Bob Dylan's song, Like A Rolling Stone, was an amazing song that changed rock/pop music forever. Even the Beatles changed their style up to meet the standards set by Dylan in 1965,66! I agree with Frank Zappa & Captain Beefheart , Rolling Stones & the Velvet Underground! Grand Funk Railroad, Blue Oyster Cult, Sparks, Led Zeppelin & Yes, although I do love those bands would not be in my top 10 list. I'd go with, Cream, The Byrds, The Kinks, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Doors. Now, the Doors were much more than just a band. The Jimi Hendrix Experience debut album is still in the top 40 best selling albums. Ray Davies was just a bit better song writer than Ron Mael, in my humble opinion. But I do adore Sparks and have all their records. Now I picked the Byrds here, but I might have to call it a tie between the Byrds and the Lovin' Spoonful. With Byrd songs like, Eight Miles High. Turn Turn,Turn, Mr.Tambourine Man, & Spoonful songs like Summer In the City, Do You Believe In Magic, Rain on The Roof, its impossible for me to pick one over the other. I saw a video once of John Lennon getting frustrated because he couldn't figure out a certain cord change in the spoonful song, Daydream.
Compiling these lists is hard for several reasons, including I may only listen to certain years/decades and some may be artists with a backing band. Here's what I listen to the most: 1. The Beatles 2. Genesis (both eras) 3. The Rolling Stones 4. The Replacements 5. Yes (1970s) 6. Rush (70s-80s) 7. Deep Purple (pretty much all eras) 8. R.E.M. 9. Styx (70s) 10. Supertramp (70s) Artists, not necessarily bands: Springsteen (prefer when he's with E Street) Billy Joel (has a pretty steady backing band) Steely Dan
Great topic. Watching you over the past few months, Sparks is a must! Making my list involves song, story, saga, and style: 1) Beatles 2) Stones 3) Roxy Music 4) REM 5) Stooges 6) Velvet Underground 7) the Clash 8) Grateful Dead 9) Led Zeppelin 10) The WHO. Keep on rockin’ in the free world, CSM. 🇨🇦
Hey Larry, I was wondering which Captain Beefheart album made you a fan. Mine was Trout Mask Replica. I think it was just the weirdness that got my attention.

Hi from hippest audience on media.

Don't tell me! It's the Quarrymen, right?😅
Hope you're doing well, sir.
Bob

9-Cream
8-Genesis
7-Steely Dan
6-Rush
5-Porcupine Tree
4-The Who
3-Led Zeppelin
2-The Beatles
1-Pink Floyd
The Beatles are #1 . To go from She Loves You to Revolution 9 in 5 years! I listened to Come Together yesterday and what struck me was what excellent musicians they were. The interplay between the instruments was similar to jazz musicians. #2 The Rolling Stones 3. Led Zeppelin 4 .The Clash 5 .Roxy Music 6 .Steely Dan 7. The Doors 8 .The Cars 9 .Yes 10. Talking Heads
Interesting list. I knew who would be in your top two. 😁 You should do a list of your top ten favorite singer/songwriters.
I remember that you did a similar video in the late 2000's. It was groundbreaking to see a man just calmly talking about his favourite music. Glad that you still doing this. BIG SMILE ! ))
10. Steve Miller Band
9. Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble
8. The Kinks
7. Creedence Clearwater Revival
6. The Rolling Stones
5. The Who
4. The Beatles
3. Led Zeppelin
2. Pink Floyd
1. Led Zeppelin,
2. The Doors,
3. Jimi Hendrix,
4. The Rolling Stones,
5. The Beatles,
6. Rush,
7. Yes,
8. Radiohead,
9. Steely Dan,
10. Simon And Garfunkel
9. Fleetwood Mac
8. Radiohead
7. Muse
6. Blur
1. Led Zeppelin

Sparks are awesome. Thank you Larry. I’m boring because the top 5 or 6 of my list never changes but 10 is a surprise - I can’t deny them... an unintentional cryptic clue for those familiar with Maiden. I will add my favourite album and a favourite song, out of many, for good measure:
1 Iron Maiden - Piece of Mind - Infinite Dreams
2 AC/DC - Powerage - Shot Down in Flames
3 Black Sabbath - Master of Reality - Snowblind

7. The Monkees. (Another “guilty pleasure” and arguably not a band at all?)

4. The Velvet Underground
3. The Rolling Stones

1. The Beatles
- Nice video Larry 👍
I forgot about The Smiths - they’re probably about 8 or 9 on the list…

I agree with your #1
Sparks are my no 1, 2, 3,4, 5, 6, 7,8,9 The Beatles 10
Looking at my list I’m intrigued that, despite the fact that you and I are only a fear years apart in age (I think I’m about three years younger), our lists are so different in terms of when our bands were active. You have a much heavier leaning toward the 1960s and 1970s. It seems I should be with you in that regard, since I had an older brother and sister who introduced me to a lot of those “early” bands, but for some reason I went my own way. I attempted to rank these but as you know, things can change. But there’s no question about my number one. Sorry for the long post…
I never include The Beatles when I talk about my favourite bands, I don't think of them as a band, they're just a part of me in a way
I totally understand that way of thinking. It's almost too obvious to mention them but I do anyway.
Larry I had to laugh (affectionately) when, after dismissing a litany of great bands, also rans, 😳
You gave us your No.10
Captain Beefheart. I swear your voice changed timbre a bit and you sounded a bit timid or dare I see defensive.
You are a Captain BRAVE-heart! 🤣🤣
I’d put the Doors and the Monkees in my top ten
- my personal bias 😘
BUT it is TRULY difficult
Great list - I have to admit that many I've heard of but not really listened to. I'd be torn with 1st and 2nd - I'd be inclined to switch them due to the larger discography of Sparks (despite a few misfires En-Route). I'd have to throw TRex (and Tyrannosaurus Rex) alongside The Who into the mix. I'll check out your Spotify listing if they'll let me (because I don't pay them!) 🎵😻
The Doors
Love
Jimi Hendrix Experience
Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd
Beatles
The Who
Rolling Stones
Black Sabbath
Thin Lizzy
Could be on the list too:
The Velvet Underground, The Byrds, The Kinks, UFO, AC/DC, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Stooges, CCR, ZZ Top, King Crimson, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Yes, Genesis, Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Santana, Big Star..
My list is gonna be impulsive. Off the top of my head:
1. The Beatles
2. The Rolling Stones
3. The Who
4. Deep Purple
5. Black Sabbath
6. CCR
7. The Kinks
8. Led Zeppelin
9. Zappa
I think R.E.M. were a great band, and I really enjoy listening to albums like 'Green' and 'Out of Time'
"Murmur" and "Fables of the Reconstruction" are my R.E.M faves. They were a great band. Via interviews, the band turned me onto The Replacements. Another favorite band of mine...
My Top 10 Favorite Bands:
(10) The Police
(09) Eagles
(08) Fleetwood Mac
(07) The Doors
(06) The Who
(05) Pink Floyd
(04) The Beach Boys
(03) Led Zeppelin
(02) The Rolling Stones
(01) The Beatles
I honestly knew your top 2 bands ! Sparks for me always ranks between 11-15 and have 12 cd's of theirs. That is very high considering the band is virtually unknown to many, and it's one of the reasons I've been following your channel for 14 years & you understanding their greatness . My top 3 never change...... 1. Jethro Tull 2. E.L.P 3. Gentle Giant ! 😍🐺
1-Beatles
2-Pink Floyd
3-The Beach Boys
4-Van Halen
5-The Who
6-Yes
7-Black Sabbath
8-The Rolling Stones
9-Led Zeppelin
10-Eagles
Difficult but here we go:
1.Led Zeppelin
(Still no 1 on my list. I still remember when I listened their 1:st album for the first time. It knocked me out completely)
2. Mountain
(Didn't make a lot of albums but the first two were awsome, such a talented band and Pappalardi was a songwriting genious.)
3. King Crimson
(No 1 of the prog rock bands if you ask me)
4. Sir Lord Baltimore
(only made two albums before their late comeback, but those albums were absolutely awesome)
5. Blue Öyster Cult
6. Black Sabbath
7. Pink Floyd
8. UFO
9. The Rolling Stones
(Would have been higher up in the 70:ies and 80:ies. They were great from 68 to 74(ish) though)
10. The Beatles
(Only started to listen to them in recent years. Nowadays I can even listen to the early stuff. Originally I was always a Stones man. I still skip Paul's Granny songs though😊)
Bands which just missed out:
Lucifers Friend
Deep Purple
Humble Pie
The Amboy Dukes
Queens of the stone age
Small Faces
Neil Young & Crazy horse would have been on the list if considered a band
10. Chicago
09. Rush
08. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
07. ZZ Top
06. The Police
05. The Jimi Hendrix Experience
04. Frank Zappa & The Mothers
03. Steely Dan
02. Van Halen
01. The Beatles
1. Beatles
2. Kinks
3. Who
4. Beach boys
5. Byrds
6. Led zeppelin
7. Pink floyd
8. Captain beefheart
9. Velvet underground
10. Suede
I really need to check out grand funk railroad sometime
Thanks! 😎
Hi Larry.
Its good an update of this list that you did as "Best Rock Bands" some years ago. For me, its difficult but I would put my list based in the amount of records of each band.
Mi top favorite rock bands are:
1.- THE BEATLES
2.- QUEEN
3.- DEEP PURPLE
4.- R.E.M.
5.- RADIOHEAD
6.- YES / CREAM ( Maybe I'm cheating but I put this bands along with Deep Purple with the best musicians you can find in rock bands)
7.- THE ROLLING STONES
8.- THE DOORS
9.- LED ZEPPELIN / AC DC (Two exciting hard rock bands that shake every wall of any house)
10.- CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL
Difficult to find only 10 bands and I put a draw in positions 6 and 9.
Greetings from México.
I would make several changes: they cannot stop being Pink Floyd; Genesis; Black Sabbath; Deep Purple.
I agree with: Zepp, Beatles, Stones, Yes, BOC.
Great list 👍
Greetings from Repentigny, Montreal!
I’d have to really concentrate to do a ranking like this, but if I’m being off the cuff…
1. The Beatles
2. now it’s hard…
Probably Sparks, then NRBQ, then argh…too many great bands. Though I’m really kind of over R.E.M. these days, they should somehow make my top ten. I gotta include J. Geils Band too.
My top 10 favorites
1. The Beatles (Obviously 💁♂️)
2. The Wailers
3. Queen
4. The Rolling Stones
5. The Crickets
6. The Doors
7. Black Sabbath
8. The Jimi Hendrix Experience
9. Duran Duran

Here's what I listen to the most:
1. The Beatles
2. Genesis (both eras)
3. The Rolling Stones
4. The Replacements
5. Yes (1970s)
6. Rush (70s-80s)
7. Deep Purple (pretty much all eras)
8. R.E.M.
9. Styx (70s)
10. Supertramp (70s)
Artists, not necessarily bands:
Springsteen (prefer when he's with E Street)
Billy Joel (has a pretty steady backing band)
Steely Dan
The Beatles
The Zombies
The Rolling Stones
The Doors
The Guess Who
The Kinks
The Beach Boys
Buffalo Springfield
ELO
The Who
Great topic.
I think I first liked him on Zappa's "Bongo Fury" album, then Trout Mask...
No particular order, Frank Zappa, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Alice Cooper, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, Nazareth, ZZ Top, Judas Priest, BTO
Thanks for sharing. Love the Beatles and Yes :)
