    mike should be considered the greatest drummer ever not because of his ability to play but because of his unselfish way of teaching anyone to be as good or even better than him or any other drummer out there.

    Brilliant explanation on time signatures and a very good way of explaining to students about the time line instead of them feeling that they've come to a dead end.
    The amount of times you go to clinics by people such as Thomas Lang, Benny Greb and Jojo Mayer etc and walk out thinking "What's the point? I'll never make it". As you so rightly state, they will have spent countless hours achieving their level.
    Excellent mate and enjoyed the solo whilst laying down the quarter notes.
    I've been playing many a good few years now and only just started playing double bass pedal, which I have to say is sometimes defeatist, as I'm not so good. That said, practice, practice and practice again.

    I don't understand why everyone in that room isn't freakin busting with cheers and roars at all times!! I LOVE THIS MAN! I love his attitude, his explanations, his jokes, his freakin chops and his groove! Mike Johnston is a drum master with killer chops that is actually MAKING A DIFFERENCE in the drumming world! He makes complicated stuff VERY accessible. I'm so sorry I missed that clinic in Montreal!!

    I know right? I once searched for 'time signature explanation' here on youtube and came across a video that was like 15 minutes long with a dude writing on a board. I thought it was a joke, but I watched it and it was for real and so convoluted. I gave up.

    No way I see it just time, that makes musicians good at music. It's not just time playing. Some people are just better than others at it.

    Mike is such a great inspiration for all drummers there are so many days where i feel like this is it im quitting i suck when is my double base going to get faster and smoother and im playing for a few years but just listing to him makes me realize im not alone everyone has been where at and some havent gotten there yet thanks Mike your the man

    Mike is the man! What I love about Mike is the stuff he teaches is so accessible for the average drummer. Its really impressive stuff but isn't miles off any normal persons ability. You get a sense from his workshops that this stuff is attainable for you.

    @beAllbugger 11 лет назад

    I'm sure everyone missed it, but he said "I obsess over giving knowledge to other drummers". His admiration for those who are great makes him great, and his desire to share what he's observed makes him a freaking hero. And thanks Mike, for this video.

    I love how instead of telling you what not to do, he shows you what to do to express that, and not to think you're bad, nor doubt yourself, but play to your strengths and work on your weaknesses. Fantastic.

    time signatures: any music book will explain time signatues. 4/4: four beats per measure, four measures per 'bar'. Here he's demonstrating 'tempo', which actually settles itself. Interesting though

    This is the best explanation of counting and time I've ever heard. I wish someone had explained this to me, this easily, many years ago. My praise and worship band certainly would have appreciated it.

    Mike et très performant même si c'est pas toujours facile de reproduire ces rythmiques au moins ça donne envie de continuer à bosser la batterie avec encore + d’énergie, je ne le lâche plus. merci Mike...

    but , floor tom and bass drum has very different sounds ... how can you say , that playing with one hand on basstom is equal to play bass drum with foot ...

    • @domantasl
      @domantasl 10 лет назад +1

      Our ears have a hard time distinguishing low frequency sounds and our brain has a hard time even registering low frequencies if they are quick. When played fast the difference starts to fade.

    Man his right foot speed always amazes me.
    I always have to stare to see if he's using a double kick or not, and he isn't.
    Madness. Right foot control and speed off the charts.
    And yes I know he does have a double kick...but a lot of licks he doesn't use his left foot on the kick pedal.
