    I've always thought Egyptian mythology was interesting but never knew hardly anything about it and now every single God I learn about becomes my favorite but I'm honestly leaning towards Bastet because she seems so cool (and I also love cats).
    She's a protector, a warrior and very kind and playful. And let's not forget that any crime against a cat is a crime against Bastet and you'll die excruciatingly because of it.

    • @TheAttackTaitan
      @TheAttackTaitan 5 лет назад +4

      @imma_dipshit _and_then
      No it isn't. A mosasaur is the closest thing to a "sea lizard" that ever existed and like I said above Godzilla couldn't be one of those because they are aquatic and not amphibious. You should be more specific with what you're trying to describe.
      Do you even know what the difference between aquatic and amphibious is?

    • @TheAttackTaitan
      @TheAttackTaitan 5 лет назад +1

      @imma_dipshit _and_then
      Marine iquanas aren't ancient enough to be Godzilla. You just say that because that was the origin used in the shitty 1998 American godzilla movie.
      Also Godzilla can't be a lizard due to the anatomy his skull.
      Godzilla is a crocodile. Get over it.

    One of the things I learned real quick when I got interested into Egyptian Mythology a while back. Also with Greek and Norse. Is that all the gods for the most part are usually nether good nor evil. For me I’ve always felt that the Egyptian gods usually stuck to their duties with few actually trying to increase their power for their own means. Greek was basically a large party with Zeus boning everyone. Then Norse was basically Oden trying to prevent Ragnorok and is death by using any mean necessary to do so, though it was inevitable in the end.

    Greek, Egyptian, Norse, Chinese, and Japanese lore are all well circulated these days, it's almost impossible to go through popular media without tripping over several references or reimaginings of characters or aspects of those mythologies. Celtic lore isn't really explored that often, despite being quite distinct and impressive when compared to other myths, and by extentention Irish lore gets very much the same treatment.
    How about some Celtic mythology or Irish lore for a future project. I'll even help you out with a starting point, in Irish lore, the otter is a nearly invincible warrior, wouldn't that be an interesting subject to examine? Especially when comparing it to deptictions of otters in other cultures.

      @@ahmadqazi2648 no offense taken. I am 40 now, I was born in Jamaica, moved to the US in 89, my family are Anglican because of too much british influence. But if you ask me what my religion is i say somewhere between jewish and Rastafarian which are two sides of the same coin. Judaism is matrilineal so i claim that because my mothers parents are both descended from jews my maternal grandfather i do not know a whole lot about, just recently learned was also of jewish origin, he was not a father to my mother after conception so we never talk about it and it was just in passing she mentioned that little bit of info while we were discussing something else. the reason for the diabetic retinopathy was unchecked diabetes and years of unchecked blood pressure. i had very bad tooth pain because of an underbite that went unchecked. so after months of excruciating pain i went to the dr and he wouldn't do anything because of my high BP a couple months later i was seen at the teaching hospital where they prescribed very strong doses of ibuprofen, in that high a mg i should only have been on it a month max. my family physician prescribed it to me for a year and a half, i had found out years prior my kidney function was 40% the prolonged prescription knocked my kidneys down to 7% and my body was going haywire couldn't keep food down and i had suffered some losses in biz that stressed me out and my eyes became blurry because the capilaries in my eyes were bleeding constantly so it was a number of factors that got me to that point also i had moved to Ca. and kind of stopped taking meds testing blood sugar etc. I flew in to attend a funeral in Jamaica and could not see my mother when she came to pick me up even though the car was 20 yards away so she saw the weight loss and bad vision took me to the Dr who told me my kidneys were shot and sent me to the hospital to get leads put into my chest for dialysis. i was on dialysis until last august when after 32 false alarms, i actually got a kidney. I do not work it wasn't really an option i became a professional patient dialysis was 3 times a week 4.5 hours each treatment and the two days i didnt have dialysis i was going to other doctors and having eye surgeries etc. I have been reading since age two and read voraciously so not being able to read a book was devastating, lots of audiobooks now. so having a literary bent i love a good story so i'm interested in pretty much all mythologies, folktales, cryptids etc. I know its a long response i was trying to answer as much as possible,

    There were a few versions of the creation of the Nile where the scholars claim it wasn't the sweat off Sobek's back. But let's just say (depending on which version you've read), Sobek or more likely Horus was feeling frisky, had little options, and fewer choices at the time. He "popped his cork" and the load that flowed became the Nile.

    Wonderful and insightful video! Sobek is one of my top favorite Egyptian deities and has always held a particular fascination for me. Previously being interested in Dinosaurs as a kid (crocodiles also), he stood out to me and I was astounded when I learned about the city dedicated to him also the sacred animals reared and worshipped within.

    I do healings myself. And I do have 4 types like this crocodile here. They do suck the negative energy out of people to clear your aura or chakras. That's why i'm watching this video to learn more about them. I can see them and they show their eye to me but also how they suck up bad energy. They surely are no demons

    He is my favorite egyptian god too.
    Btw, if he had no children, then why does his name mean "to impregnate"? Scientist aren't sure, but most believe that his name comes from the word "sbk", which means "to impregnate".

    • @MythologyFictionExplained
      @MythologyFictionExplained  7 лет назад +45

      That is an interesting point and one I don't have an answer for, I found quite a few sources discussing possible children he could have had but none of them seem particularly reliable. I would have thought a God of fertility would have had an abundance of children.

    • @theodorefrancis5000
      @theodorefrancis5000 7 лет назад +63

      Because the Nile would flood, fertilising the soil on the banks of the river ('impregnating' if you will).

    My mothers people in Nigeria still worship Sobek in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria after the great exodus of native ancient Egyptians to what became Nigeria. It is not fiction and to this day crocodiles are sacred in that village and they don’t attack or eat natives even if they haven’t been fed in a decade. The ancient covenant between the god Iyoji as it’s called today and my mother’s people are eternal and my brothers tested it because we didn’t believe it as city folks. It is sacred and protected species and it’s forbidden to eat the crocodiles there so Sobek was an intelligent alien life form if primitive and unfed crocodiles in rivers longer and wilder than the river Thames of London in the UK pass down a non violent code of honour and commandment between their ancestors and the ancestors of Kemet (ancient Egypt) to this day. It’s fascinating and magical, it can only be ancient magic that is as real as Christianity because it’s older than Christianity by thousands of years and the peoples although Christians today will not dare to piss on Sobek the great god of their ancestors and designated families are selected to worship it to protect the covenant of the ancestors. Not all gods of Egypt died out in Africa with the dawn of Islam and Christianity. Some smart people saw the prophecies and migrated thousands of years with their shrines into new jungles before the old gods started to die out when their people were wiped out by foreign colonial invaders. If you go to Nigeria today you can observe what I have told you so long as you don’t hurt them or violate them. They are in the rivers for miles and miles and people can’t get to them all and yet they have genetic memories and don’t hurt the natives or foreigners unless they mean to harm the natives then they become protectors. No crocodiles have harmed any human being since my mothers childhood when the turn man as found with weapons and evidences of coming into the community through the back door to harm the natives.
