John Woo's real signature style is all about the balletic flow of combat and how he orchestrates chaos into beauty. The way he moves his camera and actors in sync. His impeccable sense of timing in the edit and control of geography and spatial awareness between varying planes of depth. It's all about how he ingeniously edits together multiple angles of footage at different shutter speeds in an overlapping staggered manner, emphasizing the action at any moment in unexpected ways second to only Sam Peckinpah in The Wild Bunch. Long before John Wick there was John Woo films. Don't mean to come across as critical of your assessment. Hope you don't take offense.
The plot reminded me of Acts of Vengence starring Antonio Banderas. In that film, he takes a vow of silence and trains to find the killers of his wife and child. Not specifically a mad action film, it has action, but the intensity of the commitment of the character brings something to this film that you suggested was missing from Silent Night.

Hey Chris, your reviews are just the greatest! Down to earth, with a clear structure, fantastic pronounciation, ticking all the boxes, and not nerdy in any way. Thanks! I don't watch anything else anmore even if I am not interested in THAT particular movie. Every sentence makes perfect sense. Aaand, I never usually write comments ever. Lots of admiration from Germany 🙏
I want to watch The Killing. First saw him in Safe House and loved his brief role. I also enjoyed Run all Night and Altered Carbon. Not a fan of earlier John Woo.
Would someone please give John Woo an excellent action script? The Killer, Hardboiled and A Better Tomorrow? C'mon. Looking forward to seeing this movie. Fingers crossed. As an aside, when you talk about "hallway" scenes, you need to mention "Old Boy", without which you wouldn't have that Daredevil scene (which is very good).
John Woo is a good storyteller. I too wish he had more complex characters and movies than what we got in this movie. Bullet in the Head was such a good movie, like The Deer Hunter.
John Woo is a legend and a lot of people were expecting a John Wick movie for Silent Night, which is stupid because gun fu is universal, which means there are different gun-fu action styles, just like Jackie Chan's Kung Fu is different from Jet Li and Donnie Yen. Yes, John Wick movies are heavily inspired by John Woo but John Woo's style of gun fu isn't John Wick at all. A lot of people from the West including young gens don't understand it.
Bro it’s a bad movie. One of the biggest tells about it being a bad movie is how some random fanboy tells us how “we don’t get it” and how “it’s fun”… congrats on trying to convince us it’s a good movie. 🥱
@@ps5andstuffhere “20 years ahead of his time” hahahahahahahahahaha… no. Stop fanboying over a mediocre movie by a guy who hasn’t made a good movie is years. I mean we’re you even born when Mission Impossible 2 came out. What a flop
My dad has recently passed away, and I can't help but think he would have loved this movie. We used to watch a lot of action movies on Sunday evenings, and John Woo's movies were among our favorites.

Not nearly as bad as many reviews have stated. Chris pretty much nails it on the head. I enjoyed the action and had no regrets spending my money seeing it in the theater.
Just watched it last night and agree, it’s a solid 7/10 film. A bonus point added for the lack of dialogue; I respect any director who tries something different, even if it doesn’t pan out. My only criticism of the movie is that none of the other characters talk at all. The main protagonist clearly has a reason why, but Kid Cudi or any of the bad guys? Just didn’t make sense. Still glad I saw it, and bought the 4k steelbook through Walmart.
@@1stMarDiv4341 Can anyone explain why his wife gave him the silent treatment as well? A spectacularly stupid rule to have in a feature length movie and it didn't need to happen at all.
It was rough getting into the movie. His first fight went terribly wrong, but that showcased that the MC was indeed a regular person. One of the best feats of the character was his know how with a gun itself. Like reloading a gun to then shoot his enemy above him from behind. However, the training he did never pointed that part out. It felt more like a lucky break. Either way the action was great, but some of the choices within the movie was meh. It's been awhile since I've seen a John Woo film, but it did feel like a movie I'd have seen as a kid on TNT at 8pm. LOL
My favourite John Woo movies are Red Cliff and Red Cliff II. Hard Target was the first John Woo film I saw when It came out on vhs. Van Damme movies were the first adult themed movies I was allowed to watch growing up, so I always asked my parents to rent the new ones. I was scared of looking out of peepholes on front doors for years lol. Thanks John Woo, you legend!
I really enjoyed it even tho it got pretty bad reviews. I kept thinking of Death Sentence the entire time... It wasn't a perfect movie but I think it was very unique, the whole silent movie concept was interesting..... I got a little misty eyed at the end of the film.
I think a lot of reviewers don't like the politics of this movie or its overall approach to problem-solving. It doesn't have a message of peace and acceptance of others for their flaws, nor is it about overcoming inner struggle through wrestling with demons internally. The answer is externalized violence and the film's message is "Good guys with guns are the only ones who can stop bad guys with guns." Its main character is a white guy going after an endless amount of Hispanic gangbangers. So it's a rather simple and brutish premise with absolutely no subtlety as Stuckmann alluded to in his review. But who expects subtlety from a John Woo movie? It is a very good modern John Woo movie and not the least bit politically correct. If that sounds good to you, you'll enjoy the movie.
I enjoyed Silent Night. It's probably Woo's most Hong Kong-esque American film. I like how the action sequences were more grounded and realistic than his usual jumping through the air or sliding across the floor with two guns routine. This film is like John Wick but grittier and more emotional. I'm sure there are some people who will say that this film is too depressing and they might be right. I'm still debating myself on how much of the sadness was appropriate in the film. Let me know your thoughts on the emotional impact if you want. Was it too much?
HARD TARGET WITH JEAN CLAUDE VAN DAMME I’m my opinion is his best American Film just because Van Damme is a real life badass not just an actor and you know he is the one performing those action scenes unlike John, Cage, Affleck , or even Slatter for that matter even Tom Crusie tbh
I havent sen the film but when i heard the gimmick, i immediately thought of 13th warrior and the language swap. A trick to appeal to more people while remaining more authentic. As to say to make the movie more marketable and translatable to more audiences around the world
People always say Connery in 'Hunt for Red October' is playing a Soviet with a Scottish accent when that film [with the same director as 13th warrior] does a language swap early on.
First of all, it's awesome that John Woo is back and I really, really hope he gives us at least one another great action masterpiece. I will say this right upfront, this movie isn't really great but there are moments of bliss and you can sense that it was made in competent and experienced hands. Woo went for a darker tone and it feels a bit like his war epic "Bullet in the Head". If you never saw the movie, I can really recommend it but don't expect a typical Woo actioner, it is more of a tragic and brutal war movie in the vein of "The Deer Hunter". We are also familiar with the father loses his son trope from "Face/Off". The slience in this movie is an interesting idea, but I don't think they really succeeded for what they went for. The plot is pretty simple and easy to follow so the silence is not really a problem, but there are scenes that feel almost a bit ridiculous and the biggest problem is the lack of characterization, especially the villain. I also didn't care for Kid Cudi's character in this movie as it was totally unnecessary and pointless for the story. Joel Kinnaman does his best with what he is given here and Catalina Sandino Moreno had also a great performance. As Chris already pointed out, I also think they could have used his disability more for the story and put him in a situation where he is really in disadvantage due to it, but they don't actually use it for anything else than a gimmick. The silence just turns out to be a stick for the overall movie so you can later on have discussions with your buddy, just like this: Hey, do you remember the one action movie where nobody talks? Ah yeah, you mean Silent Night. Now, the most important part... the action. There are some Woo typical action moments that are really great and I do like that the action feels a bit more grounded than usual, but what I don't like is that is going for a John Wick type of action in tone quite often. The John Wick movies are partially great, mostly garbage, but however you feel about these movies John Woo is not Chad Stahelski and I don't like seeing him try to emulate other directors. Woo is the Mozart of destruction and I want to see more of his trademark style, more practical effects and more action overall in his next movie. More dual wielding guns, more slow motion and for god's sake... more blood packs. I don't mind if you mix CGI with practical effects in certain scenes, but the action needs to be real. This is the reason why Top Gun 2 was so successful, the action is real. People crave for this. The reason why all the action heroes in the 80s and 90s were so great is because they actually had to endure some shit while shooting these movies. They were not just acting their parts, they were their parts to some degree. You can not fake micro expressions on your face when you shoot a gun. All I can say is... do real stunts, shoot blanks and use blood packs. I don't give a shit how much work it is and how many times the actors need to change their clothes... go the extra mile, it is worth it. People will appreciate it and will go to the cinema for this, I bet my money on that. As a Woo fan I just want to give out my top 3 movies from his Hongkong days and his Hollywood classics: Hongkong: 1. Hard Boiled (this movie almost felt a little bit like an audition tape for Hollywood, the one take in the hospital hallway in the finale is insane, one of the best action movies ever made) 2. The Killer (for many Woo fans the number one. From a plot point of view, it caters more to the taste of eastern audiences) 3. A Better Tomorrow 2 (the first one is the beginning of Woo's career and his signature style, but I like the action in the second movie more. It also has this epic stand off between a silenced hitman and Chow Yun Fat. There is a scene in "True Romance" where Patricia Arquette is watching this particular scene on tv. Also, you can see a connection between Silent Night and the mentioned hitman, because he doesn't have any dialogue in this movie and not many scenes, but Woo manages to give him personality just by displaying his actions. BTW, you can just watch the final shootout on you RUclips, if you're too lazy to watch the whole movie.) Hollywood: 1. Face/Off (Nic Cage and Travolta in top form. The action is great, not bloody enough for my taste but the movie has an interesing premise and is straight up a classic) 2. Hard Target (Woo's Hollywood debut and pretty underrated action masterpiece imo. I didn't like it when I saw it as a kid, because I wasn't really familiar with Woo's work and I thought it was kind of ridiculous. Also, I only saw the edited version because this movie got butchered by the mpaa. However, the plot is ok and Van Damme gives his best acting and especially stunt wise, but what really sells this movie is the over acting villains played by Lance Henriksen and Arnold Vosloo and the over the top action. This is the only Hollywood movie that John Woo ever did, that actually feels like his Hongkong classics when it comes to brutally shoot 20 rounds into henchmen and the overall blood, gore and mayhem. Also, only Van Damme can rock a greased up mullet and get away with it^^ As mentioned, the movie had several cuts and fans hope there will be a 4k release of Woo's workprint or director's cut one day but in the meantime go watch the unrated Blu Ray version.) 3.Broken Arrow (a fun actioner and one of John Travolta's best performances in his career^^ The one liners are insane: "I just realized something, I never actually killed anyone before, I mean... I dropped bombs on Bagdhad, but... never face to face. I don't know what the big deal is, I really don't")
saw the trailer for this and first thought was that it had "we have john wick at home" meme vibes. laughed when i saw john woo was the director. i'm sure it'll be decently fun. also side-note: just saw Godzilla Minus One from you suggestion and thoroughly enjoyed it!
Action was great i think having everyone not speak was kinda a hindrance to the films pacing and didn’t make the fact that he couldn’t speak as impactful.
Yep. First saw him in The Killing, and thought he was great. But on first time views, you don't know if he's acting well or that's just how he is. Started seeing him in other roles, and the dude just kills it. He's damn good
Well he made Manhunt in China. It was pretty bad mainly because it was made for his daughter or something and he put her as a main character. Good action though yes
His best Hollywood movie was Face Off. Because Hard Target with Van damme was fun but decent, Broken Arrow was fun but too cheesy and far from a great movie. Mission Impossible 2 was also fun but wasnt the best action flick in the franchise, was sometimes boring and shallow in the plot. Windtalkers & Paycheck were also guilty pleasure decent movies but not amazing. Face off on the other hand was an amazing action movie with great performances and cool action sequences with also an intriguing plot. But I agree his Hong Kong movies in the 80s were far better
So I did watch it with my Dad last night, and I was excited because it looked like a good action flick There was action.... It was a flick lol But I never got the good part There was a scene where the camera did a weird zoom in on the wife's eyes as she's in the emergency, and I was hoping that was the only part like that. The lack of dialog via any speech was really what brought this movie down My Dad and I have this running joke about some movies or shows having too much talking, and us wondering when the action would happen. This movie ACTUALLY made me miss and appreciate, when movies do have that build up and actual talking between characters. There are key choices John Woo made to drive home the sympathy and agony part of a grieving father, which I felt was OVERDONE to the point of... Ok, I get it... Let's move on I feel like this could've been dialed down, and still had an obvious impact, of what the father was going through. The action was good, but I feel like if they had maybe changed it so that there was some talking... This movie would definitely be better The big bad guy was kinda cheesy Yeah, he had tattoos and fit a certain stereotype, but that was it He was responsible for the Joel Kinnans son being killed and him not talking, but there is a scene at the end... That I'm not sure if John Woo was going for a joker and Harley Quinn type moment to demonstrate something Too me... It came off super cheesy I wanted to like this movie, so much more than what I did. The beginning could've been edited and change for continuity, and some dialogue or more build up and people actually talking WOULD'VE probably made this a masterpiece As far as action, I'd give this movie a 7 or 8 As far as a great John Woo movie, or great action movie in general.... Maybe a 4 or 5
Glad to see some love for Broken Arrow and Face/Off. Broken Arrow is unironically one of my favorite, most often-quoted movies. There are just so many incredible lines between these movies.
(BlackJack) No one ever talk about this gem but I really like how Woo makes the movies he wants to make. This is a very interesting film and Dolph Lungren was uber cool as a hitman helping out his old boss and friend.
One of my favorite line deliveries in a movie is John Travolta in "Broken Arrow" in the middle of a high speed chase for a bomb he calmly says "Would you mind not shooting at the thermal nuclear weapons" cracks me up every time....lol
0:42 Broken Arrow is a film I enjoy too! Travolta is clearly having a lot of fun. MI2 has some great action towards the end and while the weakest in the series, I appreciate it more having heard the plans when Oliver Stone was going to direct it [which involved Virtual Reality and Ethan in space!].
I enjoyed the aspect of our protagonist unable to speak/talk. The emotional tension in the beginning of the movie was only heightened by our protagonist's guttural need to cry, weep, and mourn, yet unable to, and had to suffice with curling up in the fetal position on his child's bed remembering their brief time together. So this inability to talk, I believe, was a strong device to make an emotional connection between us and the protagonist to support his righteous mission he conducts in the latter half of the movie. Overall, I really enjoyed the movie. Not for everyone.
This is the 1st Time in awhile I've watched a Movie Opening Night. While there were some things, I think could've been done a better (especially that scene with ol'girl) I very much enjoyed what I saw. I hope this Mark a Return for John Woo, to Make More Films Fingers Crossed 🤞🏾 😉🤞🏾
hard boiled to me is the greatest action movie ever made when it comes to firearm action. the john wick series is def better than most if not all action in terms of today’s standards but i still prefer hard boiled
John Wick movies - as good as they are - have no tension. Hardboiled had action scenes that were built up to with tension. John Wick is for sure impressive - but you need a good story / tension or the fight scenes are empty 🤷🏾♂️
I really loved this movie. It ain’t perfect, but the visceral filmmaking and the amount of emotion Joel Kinneman was able to pull from this bare-bones story is nothing short of a Christmas miracle.
I'm subscribed to both Chris and Cody Leach's channels and just realized... yall never agree on movies.😂🤣🤣 If he hated it, then you loved it and vice versa. I love it.😁
I thought it was a good movie but I believe a bit of actual dialogue would have made it better overall though one of the best movies I’ve seen this year
I so wanted this to be good. Being a big fan of Woo. But also scared that it wouldn't work out as many of his earlier american movies. It was always a ferling that something went missing compared to his HK days. And sad to see that this was not really what I had hoped for. That he looses his Voice just got so much screen time without having any impact on The movie. If he was to be handicapped in some way maybe it ought to affect the story or Events more. Also I think the whole ivolvement of The cop didn't make any sense. Some actionscenes delivered. But some felt really lame. I hope he gets a better script for next movie. And I would love to see him team up with Chow Yun Fat. A 2 out of 5. On a sidenote. really fun to see Kinnaman deliver. Looks promising.
I just hope this is better than Woo’s latter Hollywood output like Paycheck and Windtalkers and especially his last movie Manhunt, that movie was a disaster. My introduction to John Woo was through HARD TARGET with Jean Claude Van Damme and Lance Henriksen. Which to this day I still consider Woo’s best American film in terms of the action, it still has that Hong Kong style undiluted.
I've said it before and all say it again: The action in Hardboiled and The Killer kicks the ever-loving shit out of anything made today because its 100% practical action. No cgi blood spray, digital muzzle flare John Wick crap. It doesn't overuse bland one shot takes over and over with over-choreographed fights. No movie made today stacks up to those Hong Kong classics. You're kidding yourself if you think otherwise.
this was like the only positive review of the movie I’ve seen. The main character not speaking is cool and all but I heard literally no one else speaks either, there’s basically no dialogue from any character. If that’s true that kinda invalidates his handicap.
Maybe it's just because we've been spoiled with John Wick films for the past decade or so, but this honestly felt amateurish. A lot of the action scenes left me feeling underwhelmed and the plot was super bland
I enjoyed it. Thought it was good up until near the end when things just started to break logic for convenience. I appreciate the silent film aspect as the movie heavily relies on visuals, sound fx, and music.
I saw an early screening of this movie. And oh boy, was it a mess, sure, the silent protagonist is interesting, but you know what’s not interesting, making everyone else silent. The guy loses his voice, he doesn’t lose his hearing.

your reviews are just the greatest!
Joel Kinnaman is underrated.
Eh…
Not anymore
He's amazing in For All Mankind
I want to watch The Killing. First saw him in Safe House and loved his brief role. I also enjoyed Run all Night and Altered Carbon. Not a fan of earlier John Woo.
Great review. Merry Christmas Chris. You deepdive and we are lucky for the people that translate the language of movies. Kia Ora.
@@Pr0f3_YTHave you seen it? Looks good. John Wick creators have a John Woo picture in there office apparently and John Wick is named after John Woo
woo is not a legend lol he uses slow motion way too much, hes a hack lol
Trolling? He literally changed action films and was 20 years ahead of his time
@@ps5andstuffhere “20 years ahead of his time” hahahahahahahahahaha… no.
That’s awful. So sorry🙏
I’m sorry man same with my grandpa
What’s your dad’s favourite John Woo movie?
I know your feeling , i watched western movie with my dad and didn't finish. He went to trip and he never returned , after i see some good movie i wish i could watch with him.

Not nearly as bad as many reviews have stated. Chris pretty much nails it on the head. I enjoyed the action and had no regrets spending my money seeing it in the theater.
Nails it on the head?
@@minbari73it means his review was accurate.
Me watch 3x on the same day still no regrets haha @@albertmanuel5028
Interesting to see John Woo making a new film in the West after all this time.
John Who?
Not if it's bad.
@@adnanasif9538 I understood that reference.
Mr Robot's S4 episode that is only had a line at the beginning and at the end whereas the rest are dialogue-free, is perfection.
@TalkSickMass
The Buffy The Vampire Slayer episode "Hush" as well.
That episode is legendary
I really enjoyed it even tho it got pretty bad reviews. I kept thinking of Death Sentence the entire time... It wasn't a perfect movie but I think it was very unique, the whole silent movie concept was interesting..... I got a little misty eyed at the end of the film.
Some very positive reviews and some bad. Many won't get this movie
I'm so glad I'm not the only person that loves broken arrow
Ever since altered carbon I can't get enough of Joel
Face Off is one of the best 90's action movies
I think this movie is 9 out of 10. It is more than an action movie. I really felt what actors were feeling. Acting is amazing and no words needed.
That lead actor was in a tv show “altered carbon” SOOOOOOOO good
Joel Kinnaman Won me Over in The Suicide Squad.
Damn I guess chris is not a fan of "Hard target" My favorite john woo film
Broken Arrow and Face/Off are fantastic!
Yes they are they are childhood memories for me !
Yep along with hard boiled
Hard target is amazing too
I havent sen the film but when i heard the gimmick, i immediately thought of 13th warrior and the language swap.
Love your shirt! ❤ Happy holidays Chris!
As a Woo fan I just want to give out my top 3 movies from his Hongkong days and his Hollywood classics:
Hongkong:
1. Hard Boiled (this movie almost felt a little bit like an audition tape for Hollywood, the one take in the hospital hallway in the finale is insane, one of the best action movies ever made)
2. The Killer (for many Woo fans the number one. From a plot point of view, it caters more to the taste of eastern audiences)
3. BTW, you can just watch the final shootout on you RUclips, if you're too lazy to watch the whole movie.)
Hollywood:
1. Face/Off (Nic Cage and Travolta in top form. The action is great, not bloody enough for my taste but the movie has an interesing premise and is straight up a classic)
2. Also, only Van Damme can rock a greased up mullet and get away with it^^ As mentioned, the movie had several cuts and fans hope there will be a 4k release of Woo's workprint or director's cut one day but in the meantime go watch the unrated Blu Ray version.)
3.Broken Arrow (a fun actioner and one of John Travolta's best performances in his career^^ The one liners are insane: "I just realized something, I never actually killed anyone before, I mean... I dropped bombs on Bagdhad, but... never face to face. I don't know what the big deal is, I really don't")
Broken Arrow was my first too! I was like 8 and it was the coolest movie I'd ever seen
saw the trailer for this and first thought was that it had "we have john wick at home" meme vibes. laughed when i saw john woo was the director. i'm sure it'll be decently fun.
also side-note: just saw Godzilla Minus One from you suggestion and thoroughly enjoyed it!
"I'M CASTOR TROY! I'M CASTOR TROY!" 😂
I thought it was a little too sappy and depressing at times but the killer action set pieces made up for it. Cheers to John Woo !
All I ask of this movie is a great panning shot of duel weilding Berettas shooting 50 times without reloading
John Woo’s Hard Boiled is his masterpiece
My Dad and I almost walked out, that’s how much we hated it.
Cool review. Intriguing movie. Bummer that they didn't use his silence to more use in the plot.
Sad to see Woo still being wasted in Hollywood. Johnnie To is the only old master holding up Hong Kong cinema.
Thank you!! This movie deals with emotions, not words!! The loss of a child kills the parent!! He died on the day his child died!!!
Action was great i think having everyone not speak was kinda a hindrance to the films pacing and didn’t make the fact that he couldn’t speak as impactful.
I'll see anything with Joel Kinnaman. "The Killing" & "Altered Carbon" made me a fan for life. He's awesome. :)
Yep. First saw him in The Killing, and thought he was great. But on first time views, you don't know if he's acting well or that's just how he is. Started seeing him in other roles, and the dude just kills it. He's damn good
John Woo should go back to making Hong Kong movies like the old ones. The only exception was Face/Off for me....that was really good.
So I did watch it with my Dad last night, and I was excited because it looked like a good action flick
There was action.... It was a flick lol
But I never got the good part
There was a scene where the camera did a weird zoom in on the wife's eyes as she's in the emergency, and I was hoping that was the only part like that.
The lack of dialog via any speech was really what brought this movie down
My Dad and I have this running joke about some movies or shows having too much talking, and us wondering when the action would happen.
This movie ACTUALLY made me miss and appreciate, when movies do have that build up and actual talking between characters.
There are key choices John Woo made to drive home the sympathy and agony part of a grieving father, which I felt was OVERDONE to the point of... Ok, I get it... Let's move on
I feel like this could've been dialed down, and still had an obvious impact, of what the father was going through.
The action was good, but I feel like if they had maybe changed it so that there was some talking... This movie would definitely be better
The big bad guy was kinda cheesy
Yeah, he had tattoos and fit a certain stereotype, but that was it
He was responsible for the Joel Kinnans son being killed and him not talking, but there is a scene at the end... That I'm not sure if John Woo was going for a joker and Harley Quinn type moment to demonstrate something
Too me... It came off super cheesy
I wanted to like this movie, so much more than what I did.
The beginning could've been edited and change for continuity, and some dialogue or more build up and people actually talking WOULD'VE probably made this a masterpiece
As far as action, I'd give this movie a 7 or 8
As far as a great John Woo movie, or great action movie in general.... Maybe a 4 or 5
Glad to see some love for Broken Arrow and Face/Off. Broken Arrow is unironically one of my favorite, most often-quoted movies. There are just so many incredible lines between these movies.
Travolta plays the coolest villain. Literally he is so calm and collected
I love John Woo... Face-Off is one of my favorite movies, and I would love to see him direct the long-rumored sequel...
(BlackJack) No one ever talk about this gem but I really like how Woo makes the movies he wants to make. This is a very interesting film and Dolph Lungren was uber cool as a hitman helping out his old boss and friend.
LET'S GO, CHRIS HAS VALIDATED MY FEELINGS AND I'VE NOT BEEN THIS HAPPY FOR A POSITIVE REVIEW FOR SOME SHLOCK IN A MINUTE LMAO
Face Off is my fave John Woo movie, it’s like an OTT western. Love it. ❤
"Please do not shoot at the thermonuclear weapons."
Seen so many mixed reviews on this. Still wanna watch considering Woo directed this.
Plus Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi is in this so there’s that.
This is the 1st Time in awhile I've watched a Movie Opening Night.
While there were some things, I think could've been done a better (especially that scene with ol'girl) I very much enjoyed what I saw.
I hope this Mark a Return for John Woo, to Make More Films
Fingers Crossed 🤞🏾 😉🤞🏾
First positive review I've seen for this movie so far.
Kid Cudi did not have to join the fight in the end
There was no connection
Great to see a new movie from John Woo
As soon as you said that his inability to talk wasn’t a hinderance I couldn’t believe it! What a missed opportunity!😅
hard boiled to me is the greatest action movie ever made when it comes to firearm action. the john wick series is def better than most if not all action in terms of today’s standards but i still prefer hard boiled
John Wick movies - as good as they are - have no tension. Hardboiled had action scenes that were built up to with tension. John Wick is for sure impressive - but you need a good story / tension or the fight scenes are empty 🤷🏾♂️

I love MI2 and I have never understood the hate compared to MI3 which I think is a horrible movie
Amen, brother!
:43-Damn, in my case it was 1993's Hard Target. And you forgot to mention The Killer!
I really loved this movie. It ain’t perfect, but the visceral filmmaking and the amount of emotion Joel Kinneman was able to pull from this bare-bones story is nothing short of a Christmas miracle.
It's movies like this one that make me miss when Chris gave out letter grades to films
It's not that hard lol
He basically said it's watchable but no new action classic, John Woo is there and it's well made...i'd say that's like a B

I'm subscribed to both Chris and Cody Leach's channels and just realized... yall never agree on movies.😂🤣🤣 If he hated it, then you loved it and vice versa. I love it.😁
Isn’t that basically Punishers backstory minus the no talking deal?
I just appreciate a director trying to do anything differently. A silent action film? Cool.
They had us all at "John Woo making another Hollywood film."
I enjoyed this movie and I’m so happy that John Woo is come back to the states to do this movie!
I thought it was a good movie but I believe a bit of actual dialogue would have made it better overall though one of the best movies I’ve seen this year
Face Off was my first introduction to the John Woo movies
The fictional city was named after his trademark...Las Palomas (The Doves)
Well, I was on the fence about seeing it today but I’m gonna go after your review
I assumed it would be a fun surface level movie, like Hardcore Henry. If that's all it is, I will be very happy.
I don't understand the hate on this movie....saddens me. My wife and I absolutely enjoyed it
I seen it last night and I loved it. There were a few scenes I could not restrain myself from giving a loud YES!!! 😁
The princess is in another review? Had to be that guy, love the shirt
Chris it’s ok to hate things u don’t always half to see the positive let the hate flow bro✊🏿
The Killer is my all time favorite but i love Bullet in the head, Hard Boiled, Hard Target and a Better Tomorrow 2. Cant wait to see this one.
Silent Night is a good movie with great human facial emotions and the action is good
First positive review of this one that I've seen.
John Woo is a hit or miss for me. This movie is exactly what I’m expecting so I’m looking forward to watching it.
Unfortunately lot of people now days don't know who john woo is
Well if you're a film fan or movie buff, you know who he is. Otherwise, he's not an active director and doesn't do much Hollywood stuff
I thought it was an awful film. Death Sentence is a powerhouse of a movie and does it much better.
I saw an early screening of this movie. And oh boy, was it a mess, sure, the silent protagonist is interesting, but you know what’s not interesting, making everyone else silent. The guy loses his voice, he doesn’t lose his hearing.
