An absolute master class on how to support a singer as a guitarist. Allen weaves in and out, in between phrases, and even answers the vocal phrases with fills, but manages to never step on the words or detract from the performance…only enhances it. Should be required listening for every side man out there.
I absolutely agree but felt the solo ran about 8 bars long. This needed to stay dog day slow, and minimalist, as many country southerners are. That said, this version successfully puts out a blacker and more emotional version that works extremely well.
Bobby Gentry is awesome singing this song and she has a style that I really like, but what she was trying to do is what Maxayn did right here. The band kills it, too.
