As a European, OGX is already on the more expensive side for shampoo/conditioner for drugstore products. Not all stores carry this brand
Yeah, finding the right products as a European is kinda tricky.
@@Dojan5 exact! I even noticed that both products and tutorials for “straight” hair actually means “curly hair that’s straightened”. So my Celtic hair can’t look nice?
I do actually bought the Ogx Biotin & Collagen and im happy that he mentioned it as good.
I Hungary it does cost a lot of money but if it works i dont mind spending a few bucks for a product which good for half a year at least
I use it too and it helps make my hair look a lot thicker @@katalinvarga4886
We have more and better brands in Europe than in other continents. Most brands from America are forbbiden in Europe, due to being highly toxic, leading to different diseases, like cancer. Also non European brands are not designed for European hair, so they probably won't work anyway.
As @diekje8728 said, the products and tutorials recommended for straight hair are for curly hair that as been straightened. Which is not the same thing. So, if you have European hair, be it 1A, 1B or 1C (I have 1C), go for European brands. You'll be totally fine.
The highest difference I've found are: using wood and silicone brushes and combs, leave in conditioner, ionic blowdrier/iron/curler to polish your hairstyle so it last for days until your next wash, blowout cream, iron/curler heat protectant spray AND olive oil for the ends.
Yes, I use the olive oil I have in my kitchen, but marinated with rosemary I introduced in the bottle. And it's better than argan/coconut/avocado/jojoba/whatever fancy and expensive hair oil sold in beauty stores 😂I smell like salad, though.
I would love to be able to afford to use professional products, but my monthly budget is $15 for my hair. I get it cut for $20 every 3 months. I know I’m not the only one out there who is doing what they can with what they’ve got. 🤷🏼♀️
Exactly. Sorry but we can’t all afford high end and have to make do.
My favourite drug store shampoo is honey whole blends honey treasures by garnier! I get it on sale for 3$ a bottle :) I want to try their moisture conditioner. There are some drugstore brands that work pretty well still! My roomate uses the honey treasures and her hair is down to her belly button.
Even worse when professional hair care products ain't easily available in your country and you are living in SouthEast Asia 😭😭😭... And you are pretty much broke.. The professional hair care products cost a dime!!
Ulta would have sales on the redken products, maybe don’t get a cut if possible? Or add up your monthly budget and get a travel size? I used his recommendations and it really made a difference in my hair.
Try travel sizes. They’re less expensive and once you get the routine down, they will last longer than you probably think
Thank you for the comparison, but you are comparing two different products. I found the Argan Oil of Morocco is for hydration while the Redken is for fine / medium hair that needs volume 🤷🏻♀️
How come you don't have millions of subscribers already??!!
I love your channel, your charisma, advice, and the simple yet well detailed explanation for each product/steps.
Love it!! 💕💕
I love that this works for so many people. It unfortunately didn't for me, though. I bought everything Chris recommended for my fine & oily hair type and tried all the methods. My hair became shinier & smoother for sure but it also got very greasy after just one day. Before I could easily go at least 2 days without washing. Now I have to use almost a whole bottle of dry shampoo to even get me to two days. I switched back to my trusty pharmacy shampoo but kept everything else Chris recommended in my routine et voilá no more grease fest after one day :)
I have fine, thin hair too. One of my stylist described my hair as “all baby hairs” 😅 because it’s so fine.
The roots close to my forehead get oily very quickly. With my fine hair, the oil doesn’t have enough hair to soak it up and distribute it. I’ve hear that curly hair strands are more porous, so they soak in oil better.
My hair is so straight that I usually just let it air dry, and it dries straight. 🤷♂️
I tried everything recommended for fine hair, too. The Redken destroyed my hair and scalp. My scalp and hair dried out immediately but oddly enough it was greasy and static at the same time. I had to ditch it all.
I love the products he recommended got medium hair type which I guess what I have. But I definitely think drugstore products aren't always complete trash and shouldn't be bought.
Wait! Before you switch products, here are a couple of pointers, from someone that used to be in the same boat:
1) Give your scalp and hair time to adjust! So many other factors can affect the need to wash hair - humidity, electric heat in the house/office, weather outside, hormones, diet changes, etc. - the same factors that affect our skincare needs affect our scalp! If it still isn’t working after a month with the way you’re using it, then try:
2) switch techniques! Make sure to do a double wash on wash day, ideally with a clarifying shampoo first, and give your scalp a thorough scrub - I do about 5 minutes if I’ve been outside a lot, and no less than 3 for normal days. His “shampoo kung fu” technique is a great place to start. If that doesn’t help, last resort:
3) Try using less of the products at a time. Dry shampoo, in particular, can be overused quickly (trust me, been there, cried from that) and will cause the scalp to dry out. AND… an oily scalp is really a dry scalp, trying to compensate for the dryness.
Good luck!!!
High-end leave-in products are very useful. I can see the difference when I use them.
However, I save on shampoo because it’s all going down the drain anyway.
I gone through entire containers of high end sulfate-based shampoos, and I thought they worked similarly to my drug-store sulfate surfactant shampoos.
I think if I had thick, wavy, or curly hair, then I might be a lot more picky about shampoo’s, but I have an easy hair texture.
I use a combination of higher end products (like olaplex) and plain old avocado oil and coconut oil etc. I agree that high-quality products are helpful, but I also want to add that inexpensive natural ingredients like oils give some of the best results imo and are always affordable! If you can't afford high end products you can always invest in high quality oils and make your own hair masks etc
Plus so much better for the body, the health and the environment!
Totally especially when my entire body is heavily toxic from chemicals..
Yes! And whilst I do get that professional shampoos and conditioners are more concentrated, they still also use the same chemicals as in drugstore shampoo. I always used to get bad build up from all the silicone in professional hair care 😔 Now I‘m using stuff without silicone
Coconut oil is a sealant 🙄
What's your take on pharmacy shampoo ?
For what I can see in social media, it's not common at all to use pharmacy shampoo in the US, but here in France it's the most popular option and I can see why, I love them (particularly the brand KLORANE) since they focus mainly on scalp health. Although social media is influencing me into wanting to try professional products (I've barely ever used drugstore, I hate it), but I was curious as to what the difference between pharmacy and professional.
PS: Pharmacy doesn't necessarily mean dandruff/medicated shampoo ;) They are meant to be used like regular shampoos, they're just sold in pharmacies and the brands are part of skincare labs instead of cosmetic.
I wanna know too about pharmacy shampoo.
Has anyone noticed the the dark quinine Klorane has changed? It seems more diluted and the strong nice smell has dissipated… I bought my new bottle in England. My old ones where bought in France. 😔
@@etheriumrise39 Actually Klorane has reformulated all of their shampoos, they have removed sodium laureth sulfate and made the formula BIO so it may be because of that. However, personally the quinine shampoo is my least favorite of them because the small percentage of alcohol denat in it (used to enhance penetration of the ingredients given that it's a shampoo for hair loss) makes my hair feel disgusting. But this has happened with both the new and old formula.
A lot of farmacy shampoo sold in the EU is drugstore shampoo in the US.
I Am 67 On A Fixed Income & Barely Can Afford Over The Counter Brands,Hair Is Now Very Thin & Natural Gray,Long But I Use Moisturizing Shampoos & Conditioners That Are Sulfate Free/Only Wash Once-Twice A Week😊Just Saying❤
Explaining this through the formula would be great. Which ingredients does the drugstore shampoo have that the professional don’t have? And vice versa
Absolutely love your advice! My fine ,frizzy, curly hair is now soft, shiny and manageable for at least 3-4 days. I got the Redken Frizz Dismiss leave in cream and the Pureology heat protector. I had the Revlon styling blow dry brush but never used it as I felt it dried out my hair too much. After watching your video on using it, it’s been a game changer! I now blow dry from both sides on “low” until my hair starts to feel hot..then I stop and move on to another section. Great tip! Now if you can do something about the 90degree humidity here in Southwest FL I’d be forever grateful 😍
Yeah, but you compared a shampoo for thin hair with one for thick hair...
Herbal Essences, Revlon and Garnier shampoos, and conditioners have done wonders for my hair as of recent. They are on the higher side of the drugstore brands so they are not as bad. I even use Revlon Colorsilk and Clairol Nice 'N' Easy in Dark Auburn for my hair dye. Granted, cheaper, but they make my hair look amazing. Might I say that professional hair dye is crap. The dye washed out and it turned right back into my natural hair color which is blonde. So no, professional isn't always better.
I think everyone's hair is different. There's no "one size fits all" for hair products. Herbal Essence demolished my hair, but my mom's hair is beautiful and bouncy when she uses it. I use Biolage for color treated hair and my hair looks and feels great, but my sister's hair dried up after one use. It's crazy. I think we all just have to experiment with different brands and products.
Some people have “ easy” hair and could look good with almost any products. They just have good hair. If your hair isnt “ easy” though probably not gonna happen
@@valkyrie_offlinegarnier and herbal essence were horrible for me too.
Im on my sons youtube account i have thick porous wavy hair that gets poofy and frizzy
Not always try Chi hair colour is the best professional brand
@@pennypetrovic3682 Tried that. It turned my hair back to blonde.
This channel has literally changed the life and look of my thick, coarse red hair! I can’t thank you enough 🎉 ok, so I bought the leave in conditioner and heat protector you suggested in another video, looks like I’m buying the shampoo and conditioner too. You are amazing ✨
My New Year’s resolution is going to buy these recommended products. I’m going on a hair health journey.
How do we tell what is a "professional" shampoo? I honestly thought OGX was a "professional" shampoo because it's expensive... So is there something else I need to look for besides price?
Found your channel about 6 months ago, the improvement in my hair is worth every penny spent on the professional products…which by the way I still have over half the shampoo, 2/3 of the conditioner, 3/4 of the leave in conditioner & heat protector. The hair oil will probably last longer than me as I only use 2 drops. Plus, I’ve been able to extend getting color to 8 weeks instead of 4.
Which products did you get?
I bought all of the products recommended for fine hair - Redken volume fanatic shampoo & conditioner, the Pureology leave in conditioner, the Redken heat protector and the Olaplex hair oil. I know not everyone’s budget could do this in one shot, but I do know that you can get travel sizes of the shampoo, conditioner and leave in conditioner. I have post menopausal hair loss and my once thick tresses are now fine. I’m doing my best to take care of what I’ve got and have been very happy with the results from this regimen
Ogx has cancer causing chemicals in it. It had a major recall here because the ingredients come into contact with water and cause some sort of reaction.
I love love loveeeeee your videos! They’re informative, consistent, entertaining and to the point! Also, I love that you advice a ‘simple’ straightforward routine based on hair type. Other channels I was following were advising SUCH an elaborate routine to save my hair - made me just want give up beforehand. You are my favorite hair guru! ❤ Love from The Netherlands!
I meeeean the title said it was about the shampoo, but there were so many different products used that we really have no idea what you can attribute to the shampoo specifically.
Woah! You just explained to me my major problem about my hair, after all these years of my long hair journey.. I'm heart broken.. because my hair is my pride.. I tried so much to protect, it, I don't use heat, always air dried. I use satin pillow case, n safe protected styles, it's long lol likes to get in the way . But thank you for helpful info ... blessings to you
I spent a ton on morrocanoil just to find I am allergic. Never had that problem with dollar store brand and could easily go 7 days on it. So sad.
For what its worth, I think its the Chamomile that made my scalp breakout. Too bad many professional shampoos seem to like to add this. I only used the products twice and am still trying to calm my scalp down. What seems to be working is apple cider vinegar, witch hazel and water with a few drops of tea tree and peppermint. I guess its an expensive product that doesn’t make it into the cheap shampoos and why I have never had a problem with dollar store brands. Chamomile is related to ragweed, and since I get hay fever its something I have to avoid (also chrysanthemum and calendula)
It caused me irritation too.
Idk my hair is so healthy now I started using tresemme like I don't need to cut my dead ends off every 2 months I've gone around 8 mouths with trimmings them and they still look shiny
Looks like someone upped their camera budget!
(I get lots of compliments on my hair thanks to your tips. Thankful that I’ve found your channel!)
Its not that i dont believe him, but my hair never holds curls
for very long even ata professional salon. The only time i had the best curls that lasted for a couple days was literal rag curls. Like, I used actual strips of cotton fabric and rolled and tied damp hair and went to sleep 😂
I did an experiment.
Intro: I'm 63, and have been using professional hair products since the 80's.
The past two years I decided to use various drugstore brand hair products.
My hair went to ****.
I recently went back to salon/professional products, and I almost cried in the shower, wanting to apologize to my hair treating it like a bad tenant 😭. I had totally forgotten how nice my hair could feel and look.
This experiment will not be repeated lol. I live on retirement, at the edge of poverty, but I'll compromise on other things before I will ever compromise on hair products again.😊
(same with shoes; never wear shitty uncomfortable shoes, you'll pay for it in the end.)
So informative! The visual difference really hits home!
I’ve been using ogx for a few months and I’ve never seen hair loss
If you have curly hair naturally that comes with frizz (its natural state, without curl defining products) please be assured it isn't "frizzy and gross." I didn't love the pairing of those two words together in this video. Frizz is natural and it happens and if you don't have the money to spend on curl defining products, dont worry about it. Your curl pattern is fine just as is x
I used salon products for years. Then one day I saw Everpure in a dollar store. I was amazed at how great it made my hair.
You really are the Dr. Dray of hair 🤍
A lot of the professional products have ingredients that build up horribly on my hair. I just can’t find a professional hair product that works except for Deva from many years ago.
I did check the price of the redken and even though I could've afford to buy it - with a very thight smile, I admit - I didn't. The reason is that it has sulfates in it. I have been using a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner for a year now and I won't go back. The difference in my hair is so huge. My hair feels light, clean and just so healthy, doesn't get oily on top as fast as it used to and I can easily go around 3 to 5 days without washing it. Thank goodness we have very good selection of sulfate free - and paraben free (a must) - products available in normal stores here in Finland.
I use creco pelo products from the grocery store. I never noticed the difference with the $100;000 professional products.
I found your channel about a month ago and immediately started taking a ton of notes and changing my routine. I haven't changed any of my products yet, but only by learning the correct washing technique and using the Revlon dryer brush, my hair looks amazing already and stays cleaner for 2 days (for now).
I however struggle to actually find the leave-in conditioner and the dry shampoo you recommend, can barely find it online.
is it possible you recommend professional dupes for your "holy grail" products?
He said redken one united as an alternative leave in before.
The most importamt thing is always and everywhere left out. If you have thin hair and make it bealthy it looks as if you have even LESS hair.
Do you have any recommendations of professional products for oily/ fine hair that are cruelty free?
I always been a dove girl and people always compliment my hair (despite I'm so lazy when it comes to combing and styling it)
I'm here because I'm looking for an alternative. My favourite Dove Cucumber is nowhere to be found now in our country. I use other drugstore shampoo abd conditioner, and they all frustrate me.
After I arrived in Canada, my hair became thin, hard and brittle, before that it was fluffy and of excellent quality, every time I wash my hair, as soon as I start applying shampoo and rinse it off, my hair begins to stretch out on its own, like clockwork (sometimes a little shred) I really don’t know what to do
I love your channel and all your advice. I color my hair blond and your recommendations have made such a difference. I had really been struggling with frizz.
I have a question about hairspray. I have been using the correct products. I use a hair defused. Mid day the curl falls out. I can not find a hairspray that doesn't fell crunchy. Can you provide some suggestions? I would appreciate the help. Thank you
Pureology is not avalible to ship to Norway without heving to pay tolls, do you have another one you recommend?
I live in Hungary and also here Pureology is not available. I use L'Oréal professional Vitamino color 10in1 leave in conditioner. Pureology belong to L'Oréal.
I need to use cruelty free products so Herbal Essence it is. There are lots of other cruelty free options if you look. Have a heart, people. 💜❤💜❤💜
I like fanola shampoos , conditioners etc. It’s not too expensive compared to brands like redken. But it’s still a pro brand.
For supermarket brand.. I like palmolive shampoo for normal hair as clarifying shampoo . Works great.
Omg the ending 😂😂 but in all seriousness you’ve helped me so much! Best hair channel on RUclips ❤my hair is thriving
I used Kevin Murphy before which was also amazing but it was double the price of Redken so I start to pay less ^^
I made the switch to redken when I had a $10 ulta coupon and decided to splurge on some shampoo, I've not gone back, honestly I buy shampoo way less often because it takes alot less of the redken to clean my hair vs the pantene I used to use.
Can you maybe recommend a cruelty free alternative to Redken, please. I feel like they have great products but i don't want tonuse anything that gets tested on animals. So a good alternative would be really helpful :)
Same… vegan & cruelty free for me
I doubt he will, because he only recommends brands he can make money of of. Cruelty free doesn't seem to be a concern, nor the fact that some people cannot afford saloon quality shampoo. My renty is 1500 , salon shampoo doesn't happen unless we forgo food. The most powerful hair weapon is avoiding hard water and nutrition. Fruits and vegetables are your hair's best defense. You can tell a polr diet by someones hair, lackluster or fizzy hair is caused by lack of nutrients, humidity, and dehydration. Personally, when I did use salon vs regular, I didn't notice a great big difference. However, I do believe Paul Mitchel and Purology are vegan/cruelty free. I use desert essence Mango. Amazon has a huge variety of vegan cruelty free. You have to find what works for you. Some of this guys advice is good, but the main thing is he wants to sell you the products that earn him $. Good luck and thank you for being cruelty free!
@@donnahollywood8007 sorry where do you see confirmation that he makes money off of Redken? His salon uses Moroccan brand
@@Megan6772 common sense, newsletter.
He owns a salon, Redkin seems to be one of the products used at his salon. So naturally he likely sells it there. I'm not knocking the guy , hes gotta make a living too. I'm just disappointed that nutrition for hair or ethical standards are not a factor. With correct nutrition I've used white rain and had enviable hair. Also you can see his recommended list. Have a great day!
I have coily dry hair (African American type). I used that OGX blow dry spray and that was THEE WORST product I have ever put in my hair. After blow drying, my hair was crispy, dry and oily (at the same time) and the frizz was unlike anything I have ever experienced. I ran a strand between my fingers and it felt…bumpy not smooth at all. I used to like OGX shampoos and conditioners but after my experience with the blow dry spray it turned me off from the entire line!
I learn so much from your channel. I wish I found it sooner!
Professional shampoo is too expensive for me. I can afford one Olaplex product, which is the no 3. Is it ok to keep using it with my normal drugstore shampoo?
Has he ever done a video on how to blow dry your hair? I'm so clueless, I have very long hair too so it's hard to manage if I ever try and I know damn well it's not correct
Great lighting! Love the video
I would love to know what you think about products like L'Oreal's 8 second Wonder water or Lamellar products.
When I am using my not so good products, I notice my hair looks dry and is hard to style, so I need to style it even more, and then it gets really greasy, brittle, and worse and worse even one day after washing. It got a lot better since I found professional products that work for me. It does help to leave a mask in for the recommended time and not rinse it out immediately. And oil is crucial indeed, you just need a professional one and sparingly.v
This guy is CLEARLY a sponsor for REDKEN as he promotes this brand constantly. There are plenty of drugstore shampoo and conditioners that work just as good if not better. He gets paid money for this
Great one! Best hair dryers please.
There are better drugstore products than ogx actually. I use Hask biotin boost shampoo and it's great !
I agree that there is a difference between pro and drugstore products. I don't use drugstore shampoos, conditioners, leave ins or masks. I use a drugstore gel because it works for me. However, in what universe does OGX cost $35? Was that just a joke on the thumbnail that I don't get? LMAO. Danged inflation!
I believe he was referring to all the products he used on the drugstore side = $35
@@angela.shanta Yeah, that makes sense!
Hi Chris, this was super helpful, I have been watching your content for months now, and they have been super helpful! But I'm from India, and I'm sure you have subscribers from around the world by now! So the problem is getting Redken in my country is not possible, so I have to purchase it from vendors who charge more than double the price of the products! Though I did end up buying the leave-in-conditioner, which is fantastic! But for regular use, could you suggest more shampoo brands and other suggested products which are more accessible globally?
Everyone is so different. I've met heaps of people who's hair is nice using supermarket products. Meanwhile nothing works me. Sigh.
LOL this was great. I love these customer dramatizations.
Please explain how "moisture leaks right out." I thought the formulation in conditioners softened and smoothed the hair shaft.
Another fantastic video. I literally learn so much from your channel thank you keep the videos coming ❤️
Me at the drug store, asking advice for a foundation from Snow White ( in her 20’s, perfect face , no wrinkles , no pores, a doll) : I am looking for a foundation… hmm can you please tell me what do you use? A: „Nothing!“
😂I used a simple sting nettle shampoo in my 20‘s , never heard about conditioner, my hair was great…
Dude…please list your hair type questionnaire link please
This is the best hair channel I’ve ever found!
Totally agree!!!!
I have to say I agree 100%!!
💯 agree
100% agree!
Absolutely
I'm a stylist myself and this video makes me mad 😒 Right off the jump, you're using products that don't even remotely equate to one another. If you use a drugstore moisturizing shampoo/conditioner, do the same with the high end. Volumizing shampoo and conditioners are voluminzing because they contain fewer heavy, moisturizing ingredients. A blowdry mist does not equate to a blow cream/balm. Use they same types of products for comparison. There are drugstore products out there that are quality and that work. Our job as stylists is to educate clients on the best way to care for their hair- that includes educating ourselves on brands that may be more affordable to them. Because let's be real, the retail price of high end brands is NOT the same price as what is on our invoice when we order it 😊 High end products may sometimes have slightly more quality ingredients, but a lot of ingredients are similar on mid-tier and high-tier drugstore products. Hell, I used my boyfriends sisters Suave shampoo and conditioner recently (not the bottom shelf $1 one, fffr) because that was all that was available to be, and I was HIGHLY impressed. I felt like my whole career of knocking drugstore products was a lie, and it kinda is. I'm that stylist that doesn't judge you, and my main concern is you being able to maintain your hair from home with what you can afford!
Thank you!! I'm not a pro and can't critically analyze these videos, but it does seem odd that in the entire haircare market, there are noooo affordable, nice options 🤔. I can believe that pro-level products probably do work better, but I appreciate YOUR angle in saying, "Ok, but here's what we can work with at different price points" rather than just "you're out of luck"
Any recommendations? Thank you
I feel im discriminated against because i cannot afford it, why should only people who have money be able to enjoy nice hair to 💯😡🤯
"I use Pantene not OGX" 😂😂 thank you for your advices and showing us on camera the differences! ✨
🤣🤣🤣
Wym?
Ive been using all types of hair care and my hair was the best with professional products I’ve been using Pantene now for a month or something and my hair was super frizzy heavy and I could feel the buildup on my scalp don’t recommend 🙈😍
I don't know why people like drug store shampoos most of the ingredients are bad for your hair I use natural shampoo free from parabens, sulfates, mineral oil, artificial dyes, propylene glycol and phthalates ingredients in other shampoos can be stripping and can cause premature getting of the hair ingredients matter
Premature greying*
When I faced hair fall, I followed all these to successfully control it:
Make a habit of doing massage for your scalp into your routine.
Do not use very hot water when washing your hair.
Protect your hair from too much sweat.
Use a dual tooth neem wood comb to detangle wet hair.
Cut down on your sugar and unhealthy food intake.
Use gentle anti hair fall shampoo and hair oil like Littleeextra coccconion.
Maintain a positive mindset for general well being.
Compared to other shampoos, this Cocoonioon shampoo is effective and reduced my hair fall after 3 months of regular use.
I won't be able to afford the professional products but at least, seeing the striking difference this way, means I will stop trying to buy non-professional products hoping to get great results, so I will save money and time! Thank you for that 😊
Do you have any affordable options. It feels kind of shitty to go “if you care about your hair you’ll use this product” but each individual product is 30 bucks. If your going to shame people for the products they use, you should at least give people an option that everyone can afford.
But you will use much less - if you have to buy one product and the next shop buy another
I used to be very sceptical about spending more on hair products but previously had dry frizzy hair and couldn’t go beyond 2/3 days without re-washing. I’ve now been using professional products for about a year and I completely see their worth now:
1. My hair can now go about 5 days in between washes and it looks fine
2. I actually use less product with the professional stuff and as I’m not washing my hair as much I don’t think the cost difference is as much a it may seem, it’s just more expensive in one purchase
3. My hair is so so much softer and no way near as frizzy. It also holds styles a lot better
Which products do you use?
What type of hair do you have and what products do you use ?
🫣😊
You don't wash your hair for 5 days? Gross.
@@milenam4977i guess she means shampoo not wash with water
I recently found out that Redken is owned by Loreal Paris - the ingredients list is similar to their drugstore lines Ever Pure and Elvive, so I'm wondering if they would be good dupes? I go between pro products and drugstore, depending on my budget, so I might try it as a solution to help my wallet 😅
That would be a great video!
I have been using Elvive for several months. It's better than Pantene but my hair is still dry with tons of fly aways
Most of the time companies manufacture different products for different markets but actually contain the same products. So I don't know if Redken is any different and if it's considered "professional" and worth the hype. I might try the shampoo though, I'm very curious as I have fine hair that get's weighed down very easily and prone to a lot of build-up.
Often ingredients are watered down in drugstore products to make manufacturing cheaper. So even if it contains the right ingredients it's in tiny amounts that don't really give the full effect
@@julD77 and more often it's just marketing scam
I'm usually very sceptical about hair products, as my thick, curly and frizzy hair is as rebellious as they get and nothing ever seemed to work. However, Chris's advice to use professional products, including a leave-in conditioner and protectant has been a complete game-changer for me. I never realised how much of a difference this switch would make, and although the professional alternatives are far costlier than their drugstore counterparts, as Chris pointed out in another video, we're making an investment in our health - after all, hair is part of the body, and for women in particular, we'd like it to be our crowning glory and not something we want to hide under a hat!
Thanks Chris for your valuable recommendations! 💁🏻♀️
So as a curly girl which products do you use? I would love to know
Check out the link he has for recommended products
@@firdausali2473 At the moment I am using the Redken frizz dismiss range, but I will try out other products too as I go along, as I'm keen to experiment to find the best haircare for me. Good luck! x
As someone who has to wear a hat to be able to deal with bright daylight, I totally do less with my hair now, because no one's seeing it anyway. 😛
How's it a health investment?
You should have used the volume OGX in the purple bottle instead of the blue Moroccan one since it was going up against a professional brand volume shampoo. The ogx volume purple bottle is the only brand that gives me amazing volume at the roots, better than any professional brand I have used. It was recommended to me by a hairdresser.
What OGX product specifically?
Do you have an undisclosed contract with Redken? You're constantly pushing it and showing the bottles as though it's product placement. I tried the volume injection stuff as per your suggested products list, my hair did _not_ immediately feel better and my hair is even more dry now, which probably means it's stripped... And I hadn't showered in 4 days since using my Dove intensive repair. Also no blow drying or heat styling. I honestly think I would have had better results using dish soap. Also, $50 for two 300 ml bottles is a complete ripoff.
This video has truly made the most difference for my hair! I never believed the hype and didn’t feel like I could afford professional products. But this video made me decide to give it a try and it has honestly made so much difference over the past few weeks. It felt like a splurge for me, but now that my hair is looking healthier I need to wash my hair less often so it most likely won’t cost as much as in the long rum as I initially thought. If you’re like me and are constantly buying new products at CVS, go ahead and follow his recommendations and spend that money on good products instead. Thank you for this video, love your channel!
Thank you for sharing your experience. I was uncertain whether professional products are worth the price.
Where can we buy professional shampoo?
@@sarathapa8382 From my experience online stores gives you the best price. He gives a lot of suggestions, you got to find the best one for your hair too. I use Loreal or Redken on mine, he also uses Moroccanoil too on his videos, the top best one is Kerastase, but that is a splurge I can't afford right now.
@@sarathapa8382Amazon sells all the products mentioned
I wish that you used the blow dryer in the same way on both sides. On the pro side you keep the dryer straight to the hair without moving back and forth, on the drugstore side, the dryer is out from the hair and you are moving it back and forth... Your video is meaningful but for critical people like me, that blowdry difference is important and invalidates comments you made about the fly aways.
The difference is crazy! I've been really upset with my hair the last 5/6 years. I thought it had more damage then it should. I only used drug store products but was very gentle with my hair. I ended up buying a clarifying shampoo and started fresh with Its a 10. It's like I have different hair. Pretty much instantaneously I had incredibly healthy looking hair. I can't go back to drugstore. I am sold!
Same and I was trying to treat it as good as I thought with not blow drying it and still I had lots of breakage and apparently it’s because I needed to get a good oil to seal in the moisture.
@@Inconsistent-Dogwash same! The guy in the video finally made me use a proper hair oil and in the correct way. I realised that the oil is not for moisturizing, but for stopping moisture from leaving the hair. My ends went from parched sad little sticks and weird fried and bendy locks, to silky, souple, manageable, soft and shiney hair! I use two Kerastase oils. They smell so good and look so great.
Which oils do you use from Kerastase?
@@Inconsistent-Dogwash I will have to do that too. Thank you.
@@helenarichard you know, when I used biosilk my hair was super soft. I'll have to get some and test it out again.
I've noticed keratin products help me a lot. I have fine oily hair so normally keratin isn't the best but my hair eats it up. Definitely recommend it.
SUCH AN AMAZING IMPROVEMENT in lighting and filming your video! 🤩 it’s not the reason why we follow you but it feels so good watching you growing so fast 💕
Chris im embracing my grey hair and im tired to dye my hair.I would love to see videos for grey curly dry hair.🥰I love your videos.Thank you so much🙏
Me too 🙏🙏🙏
Yes, I would love to see videos on curly hair. It’s a whole different ball game than straight hair.
Chris has mentioned in the past that curly hair is not his forte. I think he would be just as amazing if he learns the fundamentals of it and applies the wisdom that he’s learned from his profession. I also highly recommend that u ladies watch the channel Manes by Mel. She is wonderful. Good luck to all 🍀 💕
@@torigillispie9823 check out Curly Chelle or Manes by Mel both are amazing for Curly hair.
@@lucrecevonkasm thank you :)
as a north african i cant even afford what u call drug store products
I love your videos! But I also have to say when you're comparing the two sides after the blow dry ( 5:20 ) the salon side is clearly curled and the drug store side doesn't seemed to be curled yet. It's hard to tell because most of the drug store side is cut off due to the angle of the camera.
also when he is talking about the "flyaways" on the drugstore side he is blowdrying from the other side of the hair.. like from the backside lol. 4:52
@@LilDeadHead1 he explained that in another video (i don’t know how it‘s called anymore, sorry): he does that on purpose and everytime because the hair is by far more wet on the bottom and this will prevent your upper hair from drying out :) he did that at 5:03 on the professional shampoo-side too, but it‘s a little hard to see! hope that helped in some way :)
I can't even afford this drugstore products let along the professional ones. In my country this drugstore product is regarded as a costly product forget about the professional one! 😢
I tried many professional brands and honestly, most of them weigh my down hair so much and leave some sticky residue, so it becomes greasy even faster.
Same for me. I tried so many professional shampoos and conditioner and I feel them on my hair, like my hair is not clean, worse than before washing so I stick to my clear shampoo and osmo hair mask.
Ok, but compare the ingredient lists of these:
Redken shampoo vs L'Oreal Elvive Volume Filler (filloxane is actually higher on the ingredient list than the Redken)
Pureology leave in vs L'Oreal EverPure 21-in-1 Leave-In
I don't have the budget for the good products YET but just changing my routine and applying your recommendation and my hairs are already better looking. Can't wait to use the real stuff and boost my self-esteem!
Since this was focusing on the difference between drugstore and professional/salon *shampoo*, it would have been nice to see the finished result with the same styling products and conditioner on both sides to isolate the results from the shampoo, itself. I'm also wondering what kind of shampoo would be recommended for dandruff and/or scalp psoriasis. I've found it very difficult to find medicated shampoos that are good for hair health and style.
I have a super sensitive and troublesome scalp and have for some years now been using Philip Kingsley Itchy Flaky Scalp shampoo. It's the only one that hasn't lost its effect after a few weeks/months of use, making it better than the numerous medicated shampoos I have tried.
vichy dercos anti dandruff. let it stay for like 3mins before washing, use it 2-3 times in a week and you'll be good. and to prevent overdrying use conditioner, leave-ins and so on.
@@kathrinkaefer😮
I second vichy dercos. ducray kelual ds is great too and always works for me. I dont have psoriasis but i have atopic skin and sometimes i get acne and and itchy patches on my scalp and this shampoo always helps
That s more of a question for a dermatologist.there are some really good dermatolgy youtube channels.
I’ve used the Redken Hair Cleansing Cream and, apart from smelling amazing, it does the exact same job as Garnier’s banana shampoo. If anything, my hair gets greasier quicker with the Redken. I can’t afford to keep buying professional shampoo so that’s something I compromise on!
Redden and Oplex don’t work on my hair. 🤯
Your channel has been a life saver! All of my life I’ve had one hair issue or another. Not anymore !🥳 Thank you so much for all of your help and HONESTY!!
I bought the pureology Leave in, redken rebel tame, olaplex bonding oil and ogx miracle oil. My favourite product that actually helped my hair after washing was the ogx miracle oil
so glad i found your channel. i learned that my fine(ish) oily hair needs professional volume shampoo. for some reason ive never really cared about volume (idk if growing up in the early 2000s with overly flat ironed, stick straight hair had a lasting effect on me lol) so volume wasnt on my radar. regardless of whether i wanted volume or not, this shampoo has been a game changer for me. my otherwise oil greasy hair now feels so light and soft and looks fabulous. i wont, but i could smooch that buzzed head of yours chris !!!!! 😭
That's awesome! Appreciate you 🙏
oo whatcha using now for volume? im the same too! professional all the way now. you use way less too. chris is right about it being concentrated!
What shampoo?
what shampoo do you use?

Hey Professor! I would highly suggest checking out Native's products. I didn't have the money to try new shampoo and conditioner quite yet, but decided to try double washing with my Native brand ones anyway to see if there was a difference. There was! I managed to get the leave in conditioner and hair oil later on, and my hair still looks amazing after a week or so. Native seems like they could have a good thing going on and may be a cheaper alternative for those who can't afford.
I did the opposite. Used high end products for years and years ( probably 7 straight years) finally went back to good ol' aussie and I'm like " oh my god, my hair looks good again"
That’s because of the silicones and sulfates making your hair look shinier but destroying it in the long run. You’re definitely not the only one to notice this though! I feel like using a high end product with silicones might work best for you
I used a professional product my hairstylist recommended and my hair had SO much breakage. For months. I have waist length hair and I feel awful
I use the redken now for a week and at this time i havnt noticed a difference vs drugstore honestly. I always wash my hair 2x btw. The leave in conditioner on the other hand DID make a huge difference. At least for me 💙
how is it now?
@@monikap8777 really about the same as with drugstore. But the leave in condition is the bomb 💙
Funny , some of the ingredients were the same from suave to supposed salon brands. Unless I missed something, I didn't actually see the model get each side washed by 2 different products, dried and styled, just carefully edited in the snippets the audience was meant to see to validate your point. So we dont know for sure.
Likely because that would make for a very long and boring video.
can you recommend a leave in conditioner that is available in europe? can’t buy the pureology one anywhere :(
My problem is allergies to fragrance... and most professional products have added fragrance...
Have you tried the fragrance free products from Wella?
@@marianne6373 No, I haven't... thankyou!
Would custom shampoos fall into the drugstore bucket? Would love to see a video doing a deep-dive into customized products (like Prose, etc) or if any of your clients have seen success or not with them.
Oh same!!!
