  • Hello, all, and welcome to this week's teaching video! This time I'm doing something a bit different, and sharing how I organize and differentiate my word work centers for my Kindergarten students. I had a couple requests on one of my Week in My Teacher Life videos asking for specifics regarding my Word Work centers, so here that is! If you have any other questions, or would like to see something else in my classroom, please let me know in the comments. I'm happy to show you around and share my ideas with you.
Thank you so much for watching! ♥

@@postitsandpens I noticed your rules for center time. Did you make that or get it from tpt?

@@ccc919 Do you mean the "when is it okay to interrupt" poster? If so, I made that myself on powerpoint using my bitmoji. The Ask 3 Before Me poster came from TpT and was most likely a freebie although I've had it for years so can't say for sure.

It was really helpful to see your differentiated word work centers. I am looking for the best way to set up mine and this looks like something that is doable and functional. How often do your change your center activities? If possible, I would like to see and hear how you run your other 3 centers, too.

Hello! I haven't changed them since I set them up in January, but quarterly will probably be what I do the remainder of this year, and from now on. Once I move my purple group into Set 1, I will be updating all of their activities to reflect their new words, and will also move some of the materials around so all groups get to use them. I'll see if I can't go over the other centers soon! Thanks for the comment, and I'm glad this was helpful!

    Merin ,
Thank you for taking us behind the scenes of your centers .
I would like to see how you set up your classroom behavior management strategies .
With that said , keep handling it like a champ .

Will do! I'll see if I can't do that later this month.

Do you teach them how to use every single bin? If so how do you do that?

I did, yes! Our district used apps on the computers that were mandatory, so I'd have them work on those while I pulled the students from each group to show them each of their activity choices. As I changed them out throughout the year, I'd do a quick mini-lesson with the group or groups as needed, usually in place of one of my small reading groups. If an activity was available for all of the groups, then I'd just do a mini-lesson with the whole class before we started centers.

Thank you for the video. Where did you get the alphabet stamps for the playdoh?

They were given to me by a retiring teacher, but I think they originally came from Lakeshore.
