Nothing like a conversation with a great hat shaper. I could watch this all day honestly.
That's great, glad you enjoyed it. We have another scheduled for January and it should be pretty good too.
@@CowboyCartel how can I buy one, I live in Hong Kong but
@@pisabkk9139 jobeshatstore.com he ships international. I would call them as they don’t update stock due to high volume sales
@@CowboyCartel any chance to share an email? So we can talk about it?
What a cool dude. That guy is a living example of the American Dream. Enjoyed the video and learned a lot.
Thank you for watching, I’m glad you enjoyed it. Jobe is an amazing guy, he treats everybody just like he treats me on camera. And what a fantastic hat shaper.

Great interview. Jobes is a very personable type of fella.
Y'all can tell he takes real pride doin what he does. Thanks for keeping AMERICANA ALIVE man
Cool dude! Proud to see another Latino doing GREAT! Congrats brother!
I had stopped in and then afterwards came across your video. Purchase my first hat the American Hat Company. Great to get an item with craftsmanship.
Way back in 1975 there was a Western store called Triggers in my city- and i bought a hat from that store- it was 3x felt with a 5" brim and a 6.5" crown, it was jet black with a red silk liner and real leather sweat band- the hat was made by The American Hat Compamy- i paid about $75 for that hat and wore it until 2009- i gave that hat to a 19 year old young man that promised he would wear it and take good care of it- so far hes kept his promise
Great story, and just shows how these hats will last a lifetime if you take care of them.
I’m glad this popped up in my feed because I never would have heard of this store. Seems like a really nice guy. I’ve been a huge hat guy since I was a kid. I don’t make it to Ft.Worth very often but I will definitely make this a stop when I do.
I’m glad the video found you, and you found it useful. Jobe is a great guy and a fantastic hat shaper. We are releasing a new video from the American Hat Co factory today to our Facebook, it will be available to the general public tomorrow afternoon here. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.
Another hat heaven!
We need more stores like this
This was really good. Your videos are getting a lot better. Also appreciate your more neutral stance on brands in this one. An opinion is good but I like the overall stance of quality in every brand.
I’m glad you enjoyed it, it always takes some time to figure out exactly how to do something new. Isn’t it 10,000 hours before you’re an expert at anything, I have a ways to go.
I'm new to your channel and I absolutely LOVE your videos. That American 500x steel colour hat is awesome, great choice on that colour! I'm hoping to get one some day soon. I hope you are enjoying it. I could watch the hat shaper all day, what a talent he has.
Sorry for the late response we have been traveling. I could watch shaping all day myself. I love the 500x but they are all very nice, I am working on a 1000x for this winter and still don't know who will do that one, I really want Jobe to do it lol. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
Love American Hat Company Hats. Well worth the bucks.
We agree 100% thanks for watching and commenting
Really great shaping of that 500x Steel AHC hat & interesting interview @Jobes! Thanks for posting it up Amigo and Congrats! 👍
Thanks, it’s fun to see it all come together.
If I ever make it to Texas, I’m buying from Jobe…
Great store and such a great guy. Thanks for watching and the comment.
I'm from Fort Worth & live in Weatherford now and I just stumbled upon this channel and am really enjoying it so far, keep up the nice work 🤠
That's great! so glad you are enjoying the content, and thanks for watching.
Never been to the Jobe's Store, but have visited with him and the staff at the FWSSR. They have always been extremely hospitable. Plan to visit the store very soon.
Learned a lot . Thanks
Really interesting interview! Loved it!
Glad you enjoyed it!
That steel hat and the shape are a winner! Enjoyed the vid!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
Great video,,,like your hats I've got a Larry Mahan straw,and a Felt,..so I need one of yours.
Glad I randomly found this video. I love nice hats and steam and shape them myself at home with a steam kettle on the stove. Even baseball hats I'll steam and shape if they aren't symmetrical. I've never been into the cowboy hat style but rather the "western" style hat with more of a fedora crown and straight brim on the sides and back with downturned brim in front. I also like the weathered cotton Dorfman Pacific hats because I shape them and coat them in beeswax to waterproof them. Some examples I like are the American Hat Makers Barcelona Sun Hat or Waylon Jennings hat he wore in 1980-81 in the Mr. Lucky's live concert 1980 or the hat Lemmy is wearing on the front cover of Motorhead's Ace of Spades album. Another one I'm really digging is the western style hat that the Sydney Snow character is wearing on Hell on Wheels. American Hat Makers makes some Ranch style fedoras that are also nice. If I'm ever in this area I'll definitely stop in to Jobe's Hat Store and maybe have one shaped like these.
I’m glad you found the video, and enjoyed it. Thanks for watching! Jobe can definitely hook you up on the pinched front style hat you are looking for, all of the hats come in different brim sizes, and if you need them a little smaller they can be cut down. The great thing about these hats is, they are a blank canvas. You can make a cowboy hat, “western hat”, fedora, or almost anything out of them.
I like your RUclips video and I like how you shape the cowboy hat they look really nice when you shape them and do a lot of work on the cowboy hat
Fascinating interview- thank you. Love your choice of hat.
Thanks, and glad you enjoyed it!
Very Good 👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you! 😃
I remember watching him when i was young put the shape of Texas in a square crown and wanted it so bad !!! That was at sheplers probably late 90’s

I just bought a Hollywood leather cowboy hat made by American it's one of the best hats I've ever owned
I bought 1felt 1980 Pasadena !!

new subscriber - australia - thanks for the video - well done
Welcome! Thanks for watching, and the comment.
Nice work on this one! I would have really liked to know Jobe's opinion on felt quality between brands, since he’s handled thousands of hats. Not sure if he could give a completely unvarnished opinion.
Well I think because he is a retailer of multiple brands it would be a bad thing for his business to publicly say one over another. I will say he has an opinion and if you go see him he may be able to tell you, it will be expensive though 😉 the real difference isn’t at the 100x level. Thanks for watching and I really am glad you enjoyed it.
I'm looking at getting one of Jobes own felt hats. Only problem is I need a 7 3/4" which is very hard to find and their website doesn't sort by size only brand.
Wondering if the Bud Light sign is still there?
Double H Mexican leather is the most durable boot on Earth
My first job was shepherds in cherry creek colo shaping hats 16. Lol
shoutout to marlin, looking gorgeous as always😍
Y'all really need to get some JK Forefronts. They're the most comfortable handmade (and good looking) boots on the planet. They're really good.
I like the shape of his son’s hat. What style is that?
loved the video, could you tell me what model the straw hat was ? Im looking on purchasing my first American Hat and loved the straw hat
I think it was a JH brand, I know we had discussed it a couple years ago but I don’t remember. I asked Conor and he doesn’t know either. You may call the store and ask. They will know the video.
Sheplers is notorious on Little road
Will getting the hat reblocked keep it stretched out. I got a 500x silverbelly and it is too small because I'm between sizes.
On a 500x I would send it to the factory and have them do it. Most places don’t carry every hat block size, and the profile is property, so you won’t get the exact crown shape. American can stretch it. 500x will set you back $1500 now, I just wouldn’t risk it. I have reblocked 40x and below with good results in size change.
@@CowboyCartel Thank you sir. I already brought it to Catalena hatters because they have the block and sell a lot of American hats so hopefully it comes out good. Next time I will have to send it to the factory.
I really enjoyed this video and I love your hat shape. If I order from Jobe and want this shape what would I tell them?
Thanks for letting me know you liked it, its always good to hear when you put a lot of time into something. The shape would be a cattleman, with what I would call a J brim that's about 7 inches wide. But if you tell Jobe you want the Cowboy Cartel brim, I bet he will hook you up 😉. Thanks for checking us out.
Take that Bud Light sign down and you might increase sales by 10%. I was going to order a hat...then saw that!
I'm not really a big cancel culture guy, but Bud Light crossed the line..big time!
You saw a video from July 2022 when no one was mad at Bud Light and that made you hate this top tier vendor? Come on bro. Thanks for watching and commenting. But I can assure you Jobe is not woke.
@@sonoman00ify oh geez…you’ve lost the bubble of what America stands for….FREEDOM! Freedom for the company, but would like to make a phone decisions freedom for you to take your business elsewhere!
500x wow
500 is a great hat, but I am loving the 200 too. The all beaver is my sweet spot no matter the x, and American finishes their hats to perfection.
What size is the brim if you remember?
I think Jobe wears a 4.25” brim with a 9” minnick
Since I don't live anywhere near Texas I'm going to have to order on line to get a high quality hat. Is that a bad idea to order a high quality hat on line since the they won't be able to shape it to my specific head measurements.
Rarely is a hat going to be comfortable right off the shelf. Even in the same brand and model. They each fit a little different. Wearing it over time will help, or stretching with some help from youtube. I still would want someone to still get it to fit right, cause once it does its amazing. Measure your head and buy the larger of the 2 sizes that are the closest.
What's a 500x exactly like the one in the video cost?
Current prices for 500x in dark color is $2080
Nice cool cowboy hat , where is they located?
Fort Worth Texas
Hi there, I wanna purchase an American hat and am trying to find the right brim and crown shape. I really like the style you have yourself and was wondering what is called? I’m assuming your crown is a cattleman but I’m not quite sure?
Hey, thanks for watching and the comment. It is a cattleman, the brim is my own. Jobe will be able to hook you up if you just give them a call and place the order over the phone and tell him you like the brim I wear. It's about 7 inch wide in the front. Thanks!
@@CowboyCartel Thank you for such a quick response! I’ll definitely have to do that and also get some of your patches! Keep up the great work and awesome videos!
What kind of crown and brim profile do you call the rodeo king pecan hat at 44:30? The crown is a lower profile which is what I'm wanting.
It’s a Minnick crown, which is actually a taller profile than a cattlemen, but the rodeo king 1000x has a shorter crown 5 3/4. Looks like a Minnick or JB brim from the video. That’s Jobes personal Hat so it should look like the straw he is wearing in the video, but I sent him a message to check. Thanks for watching.
@@CowboyCartel good to know must be the camera angle or the bigger brim
@@epp8382 yes, that portion was shot in a wide angle for some reason. Maybe to get all the hats in the shot.
How did we get to the prices we have today in hats and boots? In the late 80’s, early 90’s, you could get a great hat and great pair of boots for under $500 and you were cowboy pimp’n!! Back then, you could buy exotic skin boots for $250 and under, and a 10x hat for another the same! Now a damn hat cost as much as a used car!!
$250 in 1980 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $903.25 today, that’s inflation. A $65 hat in the 80’s would get you a GS Resistol 6x today, and $250 is about the same as an all beaver. $500 would almost get you a 1000x. I don’t like it either but you also have to consider the demand and price of materials since Covid.
Y’all have layaway plans for those chinchilla $5,000 hats?
Does anyone know what brand hat steamer this is & where to get one?
Thank you :)
About 8k for an auto fill like Jobe uses. www.romanoff.com/hoffman-6-gallon-automatic-steam-machine.html
@@CowboyCartel Thank you for responding :)
I had no idea it was so big & expensive; from the video, it looks like a small table top type of steamer.
You can always grab a handheld clothes steamer and use it for quick touch ups. But for all day work it takes a pro steamer
Anyone know where you can get hat patches made?

How can buy strew hat from your Store? Can you get with me, thx
I make videos… I don’t have a hat store
Anybody know the exact model Jobes straw hat Jobe is wearing in the beginning of this video?
It’s the JH Chuster, but it’s unfortunate sold out at the moment.
@@CowboyCartel thanks. Seems hats everywhere are sold out.
Especially hats on the larger end of the size chart.
I bought a Stetson Glassin 7 5/8 for doing chores. A little too small. Apparently size 7 3/4 is nonexistent anywhere in the country! Hard to believe NOBODY has one, but my searches haven't found one yet. I'm in Maine, so Fort Worth is a bit far to go for a hat. If they had a Chuster, I'd buy it.
@@jonsheets966 Jobe has many 7 3/4 in stock. I found a whole pile of them yesterday. You should give them a call and talk to Pancho, tell him you are having a hard time finding something. He can tell you what he has and send photos. Tell him I told you to call. They can shape it and send it to you.
@@CowboyCartel You mean a Stetson Glassin in 7 3/4?
A JH Chuster in 7 3/4?
Or just size 7 3/4 hats?
@@jonsheets966 he has many brands and styles available in 7 3/4, if you are not able to finde them locally.
I personally don’t like those hats that look like a shovel in front. I like the shape of hat that Marshall Dillon wore. He looked good wearing a cowboy hat. I think that “shovel front” hat is called a cattleman shape.
Unfortunately Jobes website is lacking, very lacking from what I see, but, I know how difficult websites and website design can be.
I guess you need to go to the store.
Call or text is usually what we recommend. High traffic items aren’t shown stocked on the website.

Why do some rodeo hat have an oblong oval shape for the head?
A cowboy Hat shape is a very personal thing, it’s all personal preference but there are certain shapes that are more popular with different rodeo events. Here are some examples. americanhat.net/hat-sizes-shapes-and-colors/
Hello I'd like to know if you would do a Fresno man a favor and if you could take a look at johnny paychecks album called Mr hag told my story take a look at his hat could you tell me the brim size and the shape of it I want the same I would highly appreciate it thank you be safe out there
I am sure Jobe is a beast but I ordered a straw online that came in crooked. Go in store or be happy w what you get because they won’t answer an email
Everyone’s head is different and needs to be shaped to you. Mail order is definitely a risk. I have seen the email account any last week it was 116,000. They do answer the phone though
@@CowboyCartel my point stands. The hat was crooked and they don’t answer emails. All the best
😛
Why would you wear cowboy boots if you aren't riding a horse?
Is that a serious question?
@@CowboyCartel Yeah, I mean other than to play dress up, why would you? The hats are nice, stylish, comfortable, and practical for outdoor activities. The boots are the opposite of all those things. They're purpose built for riding a horse, and If they aren't then they're just uncomfortable dress shoes.
Oh boy. @cowboycartel I want to respond so bad for you brother but I'll keep my thoughts to myself. But I will say that I've worn cowboy boots ever since I was 5, and I'm 30 now. My feet are near perfect, so no they aren't uncomfortable if you get a pair that fits correctly. I also wear a hat every day as well.
@@DanielByrd-h7z i really don't see how a cowboy boot could be good at riding and walking around in every day. The heel is too high, the soles are too thin, there's no arch support, and the pointed toes are just awkward. If you wore em every day since you were five, I suppose you'd get used to them, but I was never a cowboy. Only had plow horses.
🇧🇷
Thanks for watching
You saying a fair price for the resistol is $60 is laughable. Straw quality dictates hat cost. To make it $150 with the high-quality straw that Resistol uses means other areas have to be cheapened to meet the price. The american is a great hat, but its straw is lower quality than the resistol.
Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately there is one “paper” manufacturer who controls all the straw trade, and bodies are woven in one city. This is a problem for most new designs as the company who places an order for a new design will get one year of exclusivity before that design is available to everyone due to the unethical business practices of this paper company. It’s a big deal at the moment because we have been talking to designers who are frustrated. So the straw isn’t different or better, they come from the same manufacturer. This video is a couple years old and they’re probably worth more than $60 today, but still made with lower grade trim.
Get away from the mass production hats. Do yourself a favor and go get a Catalena.
I have a problem with all of the “custom hatters” they all get the same inferior felts and finish them poorly. I am done buying random independent hats, it’s just not worth it chasing and then trying to sell them when they don’t deliver. I am sure there has to be someone doing a great job out there. Have you tried an American Hat Co hat? Thanks for watching
Yes I wear an American straw but I don’t wear a mass production felt hat. I go through them too fast. I’ve worn just about every mass production felt hat you can buy. They finish on a Catalena hat is awesome. It may not feel like an American but I guarantee you it will out last one.
As long as you are happy with your hat, that’s all that matters.
1000x hat to me is fraud. Its either 1 through 10 or it sounds Chinese to me. 1000x is a fantasy number to me. If you been buying hats for a while you will know that the numbers are just there to one up on each other, But not real..
@@deadpresident78 thank Resistol for putting a fancy buckle on a 40x and calling it a 200x. That being said, numbers don’t mean anything unless you know what they represent. We have had long discussions, on video, about Wool blend hats using x’s is what moved the X factor. 1-10 means nothing today. Times change and if you are still buying a 5x because that was a good hat 20 years ago, well today you are buying a 100% wool hat. Thanks for watching
Watching the guy in the green shirt (the customer), put the hat on before and just after Jobe steamed it (prior to shaping), makes me think I need to exchange and go from the 7 3/8 to the 7 1/2. Mine wasn't loose after it was stretched and shaped and now, I drove home to Indiana and wish I knew I should have gone with the 7-1/2
Where in Indiana, we are in north Indiana today heading to an event at The Boot Store in Kentucky tomorrow. If you can make it we will be there after 1pm and I can see if I can help you out. No guarantee but I would be glad to try.
