This takes me back. We did this combined in the New Jersey All Sate Chorus/Orchestra back when I was in high school. Fantastic rendition of a wonderful arrangement.
America/Americans. I'm Canadian and have some very important advice for you, , Don't ever say "God bless America", until you can say, "America bless God".
Sang it in 1958-59 in my high school glee club in Georgia. We knew what we were singing. Four or five counties in North Georgia mountains never acknowledged secession, flew the stars and stripes throughout war. One of them is named Union County.

@@russellbyrd2162 You are the one in need of reading lessons, as well as manners. That the poem by Julia Ward Howe was set to music afterwards is a fact. I never stated when the music was composed. Just as Francis Scott Key's poem was subsequently set to music that had long predated his poem, that was the case with Howe.
@@dennismiddlebrooks7027 Julia Ward Howe wrote her poem specifically to be set to the existing music. It's a Union Army marching song. If you would have bothered to read you would have found out that I agreed Julia Ward Howe wrote the poem. As well, I told you the circumstances. Steffe likely "collected" the tune Ms. Howe wrote the new lyrics for, as it is a traditional tune.
@@russellbyrd2162 No, Julia Ward Howe did not write her poem that night to be set to music. What total nonsense. I can be a lot more insulting to people like you who bend over backwards to prove the Dunning-Kruger Effect and who have poor reading comprehension . Weird hearing people in a former Confederate state sing this.
I wonder if they took it to heart.
Even during the civil war there were hundreds of thousands of southerners who did not support secession
@@buddy4445 True.
And there are northerners who stan the stupid Confederacy.

Funny how we try so hard to avoid offending everyone today, except it's open season on Southerners! We are never going to heal our divisions that way!
I learned this song in elementary school in Huntsville. 1960s. Blossomwood.
Who else came here to listen because of a rehearsal? 😂😂😅

By William Steffe? Not Julia Ward Howe?
@@russellbyrd2162 i am pretty sure the poem is by Julia Ward Howe. It was set to music afterwards, just as "The Star Spangled Banner" was.
