1:42 I like that - "Luckily it doesn't have RGB"
I’m surprised it’s not
would've preferred it to actually have rgb
Don't say that out loud you might trigger the elitists
RGB's COOL mate.
works flawless, even AFTER update. no problems with this rog!
Still worth getting mate and works with our amazing NBN ;) thinking of getting a new router
Great video and very informative...Have you ever used a NETGEAR X10 Nighthawk router? If so how does it compare to the ASUS GT-5300. Thanks
NICE BEAST DUDE!!! i love the specs of your PC!!!
Cheers lad
But what cables do you use does the box come with the cables?
Finally a good and thorough review of the Rapture
+Timothy Rutherford Cheers mate. Thanks for watching
I've had this router for a couple of months and I absolutely love it. Three bands to use, prioritizing for Xbox, firmware upgrades, video streaming and uploading to Facebook - it does it all. Despite the high price, I certainly can justify it and would recommend it to anyone.
beast mode
is this router good for live streaming on youtube or twitch without any lag while i’m playing?
Great Channel also! Subbed
Thanks mate
But does it speed up your internet connection .....? IE: download, upload and lower ping..
Can I replace my stock router from Telstra and replace it with this one?
very good video , i enjoyed it . but would liked to have more in depth :) and show us how some of these features effect gaming . like wtfast etc..
+Fido Dido Yer I might do that in the future. It’s a review not a tutorial and the video would of been hours long to go through all the settings
Western Gents United I didn’t mean teach us ( tutorial ) . I meant test it and show us results , to see if it really help gamers or it’s all marketing and doesn’t effect ur ping etc..
Fido, with this router, wtfast really isn't necessary because you can manually allocate a dedicated amount of bandwidth to your gaming and prioritize it over other connections or users of your wifi.
Great vid
+Texas Buzzard Cheers mate and thanks for watching
Where did you get that led mario pic you have on display?
with what you said about the vpn, say if i was out in town can i connect to the router as a vpn??
Hi there. I am looking at purchasing the Asus Rog Rapture GT-AX1100. I have had enough with my current modem, it's crap. Thoughts?
Go for it! wooo
Hey mate, should I get this or the AX11000. Love your channel BTW
Edit: Are you going to review the ASUS Ax11000 because I cant find many good reviews form australia
Yet I can get hold of that
The AX is a new standard of wifi. Supposedly faster than AC. Unfortunately theres no mainstream tech that fully support the AX. If you looking for 'future proof' then go ahead with AX
Good to know your also into crypto :P
Thanks for the vid, Im getting conntected to Telstra Cable next week and planning to get this Modem, hopfully I can get some L33t h4x0r speeds from my exchange
Sweet, thanks for sharing :)
Does this include a internet service that you have to pay monthly for? or is it just wifi after you buy it?
You will need your own internet
Hello, sorry to bother you, but does this beast require a PC to get it set up? Mine just recently committed suicide, and I will not be able to get it repaired, rebuilt, or replaced before my router comes in. Thanks!
any browser (even phone) will be able to set it up. Get the App too.
Western Gents United thank you! It works wonderfully.
Completely unrelated, what’s that lamp? Or what ever that thing is next to the router, where you put your phone down?
I’m also tempted to get this router just need to do abit more research and make sure I’m satisfied with it
The Ikea lamp m.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/art/40385637/
So im going to get this in 42 days, and i use ethernet currently, how much Ping, Mbps, and Upload Mbps speed would be? Also what would be the Ping, Mbps, and Upload Mbps speed be, when connected to the 5Ghz wifi?
Ok, what is important to know is this will not make your internet connection any better. You ping and connection speed when wired will be no different than when connects to a $10 switch. This will give you better wireless transfer speeds, wireless coverage ( client to client) and your t has all the gamer first features to prioritise your gaming but I t won’t make your internet connection any better. You net speed and ping is what it is and you might want to try another isp if it’s slow
Lan speed test please.
Does this gaming WiFi can be home WiFi? And could it go very fast When I open RUclips and skip video to 10 sec? Please tell me I wanna know
Yea
I was thinking about purchasing one of these as I’m in australia aswell but as you would know we are severely lacking behind the world in terms of internet, I’m on NBN but I was wondering if purchasing one of these would be overkill, any help would be appreciated
What better way to distribute the NBN than this. It’s not necessary but it’s a once off investment that lasts years. I still have my RT AC87
Western Gents United do you think the new ax-11000 would be worth purchasing over this in terms of speed using an Ethernet cable? Or would both be similar in speeds?
Nah it only has 4 Ethernet ports the old one is better and you won’t have a client that can max out the wifi on either
This is good for the PlayStation 4 ?
I have a big problem with internet connection in online games
Ping high especially in the games the Call of Diute
So if this Reuters is useful
It wont make your internet any better but it will distribute what bandwidth you have like a champ.
Ethernet would definitely help
Just bought this router and is a bit disappointed by its range. The 2.4ghz band cannot go through 3 walls.
It can go through 2 walls but the signal weakens significantly. Is this normal? The distance is not even >10m.
Is this normal or should I return it?
dont think thats normal...
Thanks for the review. Does ROG work well with Xbox One?
I can’t see why not, it should not make a difference
Whats the difference in the gaming ports vs the link aggregation? Kinda confused. Wouldn't the link aggregation perform better than the gaming port? Anyone perform tests concerning?
Link you can Boone together to double bandwidth gaming one is just the lowest ping and No 1 priority port
@Western Gents United. i hope you see this comment im in QLD and we got NBN FTTN and we we have 100down and 40up so the top end modem we got from optus cant handle the 16 wifi devises that are conneted "not all of then all get used at the same time" but when every one is home there is so much random lag when people get on are modem literally locks up and drops all internet for about 2 mints and then works again and even on discord when my friends are talking it randomly cuts out and then comes back in. will this modem fix that over loaded problem? i think the one we have has a single core CPU but theirs literally nothing on the modem not even a PCB pic. hope you can let me know if this will help in are problem. ill be streaming on twitchTV so i hope that helps to since my stream is also having the internet loss.. BTW sorry about my spelling i have bad dyslexia
Okay as long as your issue it not all the bandwidth being used. This will have no problem with 16 clients just split them over the different bands. In fact there are cheaper ones that will handle your needs but this is the king.
wow you anserd me.. lol thats cool also you did it at 12am lmao. yea we have plenty of internet are line gets 94down and 38up. but yea i wanna get this becuase if im gonna spend more then $300 ill just get the best. also with streaming on twitch at 1080p 60fps at 6000bitrate i want a solid connection point at the home. so then if theres problems then i know its not gonna be here and it will be the shitting VDSL lines on the street. and then Optus or NBN can fix that them self and the techs cant say its are modem ill just say its $600 and they will usly go "oh ok then"
nano, check my post. get this router and get the asus ac88 network card for your pc. I guarantee you'll fly!
My RT-AC5300 that I bought this last summer 2018 came with bad antenna connectors on the unit. It took till September to get to the point that it could go in on an RMA. I just got it back this past week and they replaced it with another RT-AC5300. It came out of the box brain dead and finally this morning I had to re-flash the unit using their restore tool to flash it. Then to get it to work on my internet service the ASUS tech on the phone had me plug it into my Netgear router as an Access Point cause he could not get it to see my ISPs Ethernet network cable. But I told him hey my Netgear routers see this Ethernet from my ISPs network switch. Not a good showing for ASUS sending me a brain dead unit and not a good thing having to use a Netgear to get it to work at all. Jimmy, WX9DX
+WX9DX Thanks for sharing that
Will this router work with NBN? my home connection is FTTN, and i currently was given the telstra smart modem when i transferred to NBN. Now obviously I would have to link the modem to this router. Would appreciate your response when you can.
Yep NBN modem straight into that and your good to go. Just remember they are updating this soon
Western Gents United updating what exactly? Im curious.
Anyway Just got mine today and is working just fine fyi thanks for your response

Can you plug g4 in the usb guy🦁👍
G4?
Do you have to get and pay for a Wtfast Account to utilize the GPN feature of this router?
Nope, i have the asus rt-ac5300 (not rog) who have the same feacture you only have to enter to the router and you have that in the router for your entire life The only problem i think is only support some games and you have to know where the server is. But after all its a fantastic feacture (if you dont understand sry my english is bad)
@@alejandromunoz127 No I think you explained that really well. Thank you!
what is your average ping on na servers?
Sorry never played NA. I’m OC I will check tonight but from Australia it won’t be good
Does this router support Telstra cable service?
Yer, run the modem straight into this
@@TallyHoTech Thank you
I need Rgb lights 😟
Oh yes!
MU-MIMO has nothing to do with legacy devices not slowing things down, in fact your devices will need to support MU-MIMO to benefit from it. However having 2 seperate 5Ghz bands DOES mean you can have slower devices on one band, and faster/ newer devices on the other to avoid the slowdown.
:)
This works just fine for me. No dropouts.
same here, some people it seems are having issues
My man pulls out a clever to open the box hahaha
That’s the way to do it
This router is superb been running it for a week or so latest firmware 4 Xbox one's 2 playstation 4 3 PC's 5 phones 2 TV's and an iPad.
Not a single problem, my old router was crippled when everyone was gaming/streaming.
Glad you wrote this because for some reason people are hating on oy
Still rock solid for me, not sure if there is an earlier hardware revision or people are just not bothering with firmware updates but find it hard to believe anyone could have such a bad time due to mine being faultless.
What modem are you using?
+Paul Lawrence Crappy one the ISP gave me. It's a NetGear lol
i looking for a modem that supports 4G LTE sim card
I purchased the asus GT ROG a/c5300 router because I wanted the fastest wifi I could get . I pay for 300mbps/20mbps from my ISP. First off, the router worked beautifully! DL speed was getting 245. I was cool with that. Then, I noticed the prompt for a firmware update. After I updated the firmware , the router took a complete dump! I could not get any speed greater than 12mbps DL. I was pissed! I took it back to Frys and got my $400 back. I then purchased the lesser RT5300 as featured in this video. I also paired it with the Asus PCE AC88 network card. OMG< my sh$t is fast! I had a party at my house and 30 connections to the 2.4ghz band. I tested the speed at speedtest.net. My DL on my desktop was consistently 84 to 91mbps DL, and 20 to 23 up. However, on both 5ghz bands, my DL speeds were consistently 295 to 351mbps DL! 24mbps upload. So then, I tried to push it. I opened 25 youtube videos simultaneously, in addition to the 30 guest connections, my son was also online gaming via ps4. I couldn't believe that I was still getting 350mbps on both 5ghz bands. Man, I love this freakin router! Btw..., I'm being prompted to update my firmware but f#ck that sh!t!
had no problems after the update guess ya had some bad luck m8ey!
I always make it a habit not to dl new update when it just got released. Wait awhile check out reviews on update see if anyone getting problem. If all is good then ill dl the update
I got one. But I live downstairs, but it doesn’t reach ):
Really, interesting
For Like 1 week I was plugging in my xbox directly to the wall via ethernet. Then I woke up one morning then whoop decides nah, ima not work. So I just use this router
somebody tell me about 2.4Ghz wifi range is it really 5000sqf and what's transfer rate through wireless if we are sharing files through different pc on this router ????????????????
It does my house from to back 1/4 acre block
me too.can pick up my wifi from the park across the street from my house. easily 7000 feet.
try a netgear nighthawk pro gaming X500 and see the difference: it's a monster !!! ;)
Yes it’s on my radar
Trust me. The X500 has it's issues. I'm thinking about returning that, and grabbing this.
Is this better then the nighthawk X500
I would say yes but there is a new version of this watch out
@@TallyHoTech I just ordered mine from Amazon, how will I know if I get the newer version. I'm coming from a rt-5300 so I'm pretty familiar with the web interface.
@@TallyHoTech what's the latest pcb Rev of this, 1.41 is the latest I could find with a quick Google search
Is this a modem router or a router???
wifi router
So you need a modem too
yes. still requires a modem. your isp should provide that.
Will it work on isdn line? 😊
No
@@TallyHoTech thank you for the quick response buddy 🍺
there is a bandwidth limiter?
Yep
@@TallyHoTech now how's that the performance of router? after 1 year and months?
This router sucks the first one I had wouldn't update the firmware automatically or manually took it back the second one the 5GHz band kept disconnecting.

Do i need a modem for this router?
+Freelancer Gamer Yes it is not a Modem
Thanks
Freelancer Gamer of you have to ask this...this might be too much for you to handle.
Do you have to pay monthly
What?
I'm sold on this router
There is a new one now
Does this work on XBOX One X ?
Yer for sure
Western Gents United i seee.. this router cost a lot so i am afraid it doesn’t work for the XBOX One X... have you tested it out on an xbox yet ?
Got a couple of questions.
1. Is this a sponsored video?
2. Is this affiliate advertising?
3. Was this unit provided by Asus? If not, where was it purchased?
4. What was the firmware version number this was tested with.
5. How long was this unit tested for? Did you run any particular games on it? If so, what was their latency , etc?
6. Have you tried sending and receiving data using wired and wireless connections within the network between different devices?
7. Have you tried playing games while the network was being used? Ie netflix, youtube, traffic within lan.
I am interested to know about the unit you got, I have seen quite a bit of complaints for this router on amazon, youtube and other sites.
All I say is ASUS sent my this review unit (not to keep and not sponsored). Its the same as retail and it has the latest firmware. A friend purchased this and I can confirm it has the same firmware OOTB. He had had no issues either.
I tested gaming, streaming 4k and transferring files to a USB HDD and a NAS.
Maybe people that complained had a old firmware or thought that if they get this router their 56k download will turn into fiber and stream 4k?
Thanks for responding. I'll get it as soon as it is available and see how it works out compared to my Asus RT-AC66U.
Fad Nad make sure u get it from a retailer that has a respectable return policy just in case
Jose Semino yea I am planning on getting it from amazon, their return policy is great
Fad Nad I know let us know how it works for u I'm trying to get this but the only thing holding me its the 3 stars out of 5 on amazon best buy and newegg
Are you still using this router and still recommending it?
Yep, beast
Ive just bought this router as I'm completely fed up with my netgear orbi mesh system. That this totally sucks. Keeps dropping wifi on all my connected devices, so im constantly rebooting the system.. After much research, looks like theres a lot of people out there with the same problem. So ive decided to trash the orbi and go for this beast. I just hope my connections on all my devices are rock solid. If that happens I'll be a happy bunny, but as far as my opinion NETGEAR ORBI IS SHITE!!!!
Mate youre gonna love it
so do this
Slav confirmed
+Praise KEK Yes ;)
I also have this router. While it may look cool it is not up to the standards that ASUS is know for. My router is very unstable even with the latest firmware. As a gamer I would not buy this. All the fancy gaming stuff they loaded into this router makes the router even more unstable. I would save the pain and money for the time being. As of right now this is a no go in my book.
Very interesting. Thanks for letting us know. Strange the variance in performances
I think the reason for the variance in one having good luck or bad luck with this router is if one bought this router early on one is more then likely to have issues. I have a funny feeling if one purchases one that has recently been manufactured one has a better chance of having luck with it. I think somewhere in production they have corrected some of the issues that myself and others have had. Don't get me wrong it is a beast of a router but it does me no good in the condition it is operating at currently. This is very out of character for ASUS to launch a product with this type of issue. Worst part is when I called there support line they didn't even know they made this particular router. They had to look it up! I lost the warm fussy feeling quick!
Brian K I sincerely doubt there's any variance in hardware. My money is on different configurations (eg. IPS or QoS), different firmware, and/or different user experience levels. For example, it's common to see "I returned it twice for the same issue [like LAN connection kept dropping]." Doubtful that sort of defect could be present in sufficient quantities that these dopes keep picking "defective" routers at the same local Best Buy. Also seems like more recent comments (and, presumably, updated firmware) no longer complain of LAN connection drops.
Yeah I'd say it's people setting things and have no fucking clue what they are turning on or off.
Like the disconnect problem you bring is probably people setting the router to drop not allowed MAC devices based around stopping hackers, but don't add their own devices MAC addresses.
And then hit ok then all their own devices get dropped because the router sees them as non allowed devices, so it follows what they set but the people don't get it and think the router is fucked.
Happens with all routers, the simple fix is to reset the router or turn off the drop not allowed MAC devices.

You don't need a freaking router like this to have a great connection. 100mbs is way more than I need.

ayyyyyye
This is not the best router it is horrible I've already been through two of them lan cable disconnect WiFi drops off I did so many troubleshooting it's horrible
Mine was faultless but I could of had a newer firmware
Yes, I agreed with you. this router SUCKS! The 5GHz network coverage is very poor. Don't buy this router.
Mine also works well. Some issues with the SmartConnect on the newest firmware, but otherwise very good. And open nat on Xbox and PS4!
had since it was released. NOT ONE PROBLEM. open box, plug in, update firmware, use. i have 8 wired devices and 16 wifi (2.4&5 gh) devices. ON UPS helps up time and it just works awsome!
If you disconnect the router ethernet cable from the modem/internet the Wifi will stop working, that will happen with every single router in the world that is connected via a physical LAN connection.
Terrible router. I have it and it's nothing but issues. Barely works at all.
Latest firmware and all?
Yes, as of this writing, it's version 3.0.0.4.382_12184.
GameBoost (QoS) is incompatible with any other setting turned on. Which includes Traffic Anaylzer, Web History, Apps Analysis and Game IPS. Essentially if I turn on any of those, I can no longer access anything from the internet from any device connected to it.
Worse yet is simply disabling the conflicting settings doesn't restore the router to working order. It remains unable to connect to anything unless I'm willing to give up QoS all together.
Restarting the router does not fix the issue either. My only option to restore the router to working order is to default to factory settings and re-setup the router from the beginning. I've gotten a little smarter though in my many attempts where if I save the settings to a file, I can restore those settings and it makes the process a little bit quicker.
So most of the features on the router that I paid for I can't use.
Additionally, any time I restart the router, all the WiFi access simply dissappears. The router shows it working and enabled, but no wireless device sees the SSID or can it connect to the router. To restore again it requires a factory reset.
I tried using earlier firmware versions also. The previous version before this only allowed about 5 minutes of working activity upon which it would crash and go through about a 3-5 minute re-startup process. Most times it never requires however and I have to power off/on the device, then restore factory defaults and start over.
Even when I have it up and working with the only one feature turned on, which is GameBoost (QoS) and arguably it's more important and sought after feature, after about 10 minutes of gameplay, my ping will jump from a reasonable 30-50ms to 700-800ms, making most of my online play not possible.
I've been in contact with Asus support over the device for 3+ weeks now also and they've been litte to no help whatsoever. Within Asus, there must be the world's largest disconnect of communication and process that it seems no one there has a clue about anything.
In 20 years of different networking equipment, I've never encountered such a broken device. I'm not alone in this either. Read the comments from the online retail stores selling it, it's nearly unanimously spoken negatively about. Go find on the tech forums discussion from owners of the router. Again you will find a very large consensus that the router is terrible.
It's why I take such issue with the numerous youtube videos proclaiming it to be the best. I feel like they are doing nothing more than going through the unboxing process and immediatly making a video about it to claim it as king.
Everything you have stated is exactly what issues I have. This router on idle with no QoS turned on has an added latency of almost 30ms across the board. That's on idle with the router not doing anything. Under load that number goes up! And I mean a very minor load it reaches close to 40ms. That's 40ms on top of whatever your regular latency is. That alone is crazy. Anymore load the router just crashes. And using any of the QoS just causes the router to crash almost immediately. As a gamer this would never do. Not even close! This is more then a minor glich. And I don't think a firmware out there would fix it. There has to be something more severe because ASUS wants me to send it in for repair. Will not exchange it. Only repair! Honestly for being a new router this should be an exchange not a repair. I'm sure the reasoning for this is because of the vast amount of people that have purchased this are calling for the same thing. This is by far no king! lol.. And being disappointed is an understatement.. More shocked then anything..
I've been working with Asus and they provided me with a beta firmware. I tried it and it does seem to have fixed quite a lot. I recommend trying it yourself.

Thanks Nathan. I will give it a test with this beta firmware and see what happens. Cant get any worse then what I got. Thanks again. I will let you know how it goes..
Don’t buy this router. It sucks! The most poor performance router I ever see.
Really, What issue did you have?
Western Gents United The 5Ghz signal coverage is very poor, only cover your room if you place your router in your room.
Did you set the signal strength?
No matter how you set the signal strength, the 5GHz band is very poor in coverage. if you set for better coverage on 5Ghz network, the speed will become very slow.
So what is the point? if I want further coverage, I can only connect to 2.4GHz band.
I can get one to try for yourself. :D
is this router good for live streaming on youtube or twitch without any lag while i’m playing?
Yes it is
