Asus released ROG Rapture GT-AC5300 back in 2017 and at that time it was the fastest WiFi 5 router in the market. Fast forward 2020 it has been 3 years, and the market is flooded with WiFi 6 routers and even Asus has released its New GT-AX11000 WiFi 6 router which is basically a replacement of GT-AC5300, and recently reviewed it, so if you haven’t checkout the review, i will leave the link in the description below.
But today we are going to find out either GT-AC5300 is still worth it in 2020 and especially with internet speed reaching 1GIG.
So in this review we will do a WiFi speed, coverage, and performance tests. So please sit back, relax and Enjoy the Review.

Now let’s look at the specs: The ROG Rapture GT-AC5300 is a 4x4 tri-band 802.11ac router powered by a 1.8GHz quad-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, and 256MB of flash memory. It uses 1024QAM technology to achieve maximum speeds of up to 1,000Mbps on the 2.4GHz band and up to 2,167Mbps on each of the 5GHz bands. Also, it supports all of the latest 802.11ac technologies, including MU-MIMO and beamforming.

@Mircea I think there is some compatibility issue, and GT-AC5300 won;t connect with WiFi 6 card on higher speeds. Like i mentioned in the review i tried different settings, but no luck.
Iperf3 is connection speed between WiFi client and Router, as compare to Fast.com is Internet speed test. iPerf3 is lower because considering the WiFi obstacles in the house. e.g walls, floors, other wireless interference, etc
@Mircea Appreciate the Feedback. I was able to figure it out as well after the review. I had to open my Macbook pro following iFixit guideline and saw Apple using 3x3 MUMIMO antenna setup with max speed upto 1.3Gbps. But the i could not find any information from Apple documentation during the review that is why i wasn't sure. Also appreciate the pointer on iPerf.

I have a question. So I am on the 3rd floor of my house where my pc is. My router is on the main floor. And my modem is most likely in the basement. My house had no Ethernet ports. How would I connect it from down in the basement to up in my room. Do I just need to plug it in a wall? Would be helpful for any advice. Also do I have to connect it to the modem? Or can I connect it to the router?

Confused between these two AX11000 or AC5300!
In specifications, it is clearly mentioned that this router supports 160mhz in both 5Ghz bands. Then why it wasn't showing in your case? Is there any issue or what?
I love your Wifi Band names! lol... When it comes to extra features such as network protection etc.... Is a paid subscription required for it to work for the life of the router ? Another brand I bought that I sent back had similar features but they one only function for a short time then would stop working after the trial period.. Even the QOS & Parental controls.... That's why I sent it back... I'm looking at this one of the other one mentioned in this review but I'm liking this one as it has 8 ports like my current linksys ea9500.... Any advice would be appreciated...

Macbook as built in WiFi 5 card. It is Broadcom chip. The Desktop WiFi 6 card i bought from Amazon. AX200 WiFi 6 card.

I have the Asus GT-AX11000 connected to a Netgear CM1200 with Xfinity with 1GB internet speed, I get around 605-685, Am thinking of switching to Att they have a deal wit Fiber but i have to cut my modem and use there modem, Am afraid my Router will get slow speeds using there Modem router combo.

so if i connected this to my isp router/modem would i not see the benefit and would it be a waste of money ?. also would the ethernet speed be different if i went with a dsl router instead ?

Installed mine today that I got for a steal of a price : 118eur.. 2nd hand because the box was sliightly damaged lol (not even the device).. I feel lucky ;D
But yeah loving it so far, it is my first standalone router and I love the options it gives me + the performance it brings is what I was hoping for (max isp speed and -2ms ping)

this is th ebiggest fuycing piece of shit on the market a huge rip off I don't know what youjare smoking, I had to throw mine in th etrash and go back to my rtac66u_b1 after all ym smart home shit was constantly not working and I coldn't stream to my fire stick at all without it dropping the connection
this is the biggest piece of shit and meme router ever, I wasted all this money for nothign and ended up going back to my other $100 asus router that is also a pice of shit that is totaly unstable but atill 1000 time better than this fucking garbage

Is it aimesh capable ? I want to wire another cheaper aimesh capable router to the rog rapture.
AI mesh is a meme it doesnlt work at all I had this router and rtac66u_b1 i had them configured with the 5300 as main and the 66u as a mesh node and then the other way around, in both case it made no difference at all , both routers are pieces of shit bu I ended up smashing the 5300 to bits because it pissed me off so fucking bad becaue nothing worked with ut, my lights would not work most of the time and I couldn't stream to my fire stick int he bedroom because it kept dropping the connection, asu rotuer are pure garbage stay away

Would you recommend this over the ax11000? I'm having serious connection issues on the ax11000. When it works, its crazy fast but the constant connection drops makes me want to get rid of it. For 450 bucks it should be perfect

it's absolute trash I upgraded from my 66u_b1 and after one week I was so frustrated I smashed it because it was the biggest piece of shit i ever owned and nothing worked , even 2.4 devices would not work right, all my smart home stuff hue smartthings and other lights were not working right and streaming was buffering , this thing is a pice of trash I went back to he 66u_b1 whcih also sucks really bad but is at least serviceable but this fucking garbage was not tolerable at all since I coudl not even use my lights most fo the time I could not believe just what piece of shit this is

@@chhsbounca I have reviewed ROG ax11000 please check it out on the channel. I never reviewed tplink ax11000. But from the specs perspective both are similar, but few changes, like extra ports, and different configuration options. It all comes down to your preference. let me know

@@DealUnboxing all my nbn stuff and router arrived today. Cant wait to set it up after work. AUS NBN FTTC isnt the greatest. But compared to a previous 4mb connection it should be better. Will report back later with speed test haha

@@ppal64 Loving it! Wifi covers a 600msq home without fault. On 100down/20up fttc plan and advertising 86mb speed connection I am getting between 80-103mbdown and around 14-18up.
Currently using the tri band feature splitting the 3 pc's and guests on the 2.4gh, the 8 smart devices on ch1 5gh, and my xbox on the 2ch 5gh without a glitch.
Streaming and gaming all round is solid.
Just wish australian nbn would dial it up a notch.
Over all such an easy device to configure and manage and very happy with the purchase.
One month in though i did have a drop out but ut was the fault of the ncd nbn box dying. Thanks for following up!
zoky Zura I have two of these. One is the router for TPG FTTP and another wired Ai mesh. It is pretty good. Even tried it with my work and home Internet as Dual wan. Home is 100/40 and work is 50. Combined can get 140. Pretty good router. I am looking to get another one for downstairs-used on eBay I think. Thanks for your report. I did notice some people composing that the 2.4 GHz has died on their router. You can find some of this fir sale on eBay .

My life sucks I just bought this and my router is upstairs. I didn't know that this had to be connected to my router at all times, I could get a really long cord but my mom doesn't want a cord running thru the house and she doesn't want the modem set up next to me. :(

I have one of these things It's a freaking beast too bad my internet service provider is so terrible and gives me like a fraction of what I pay for I pay for 1 gb I get like 260mbs

@@scxllyedits My Wi-Fi is bad I got this which is a really good router It gives a higher cap But my wireless was still bad It's the internet service provider 99% of the time whenever you have bad internet connection it's usually them And you give them a phone call and they give you some bullshit statement there's nothing that you could really do about that You could try with this But I can almost guarantee that it's probably the ISP that's the problem

after one wekk i threw it out the window and smashed it and sent back to my old router becausr it was so fucing bad and nothing I did would fix it, cameras wouldnlt work smart lights were unstable and most of the time half my ligths would not work streaming sucked so bad the fire sticks were dropping the connection, it;s garbage
GT-AC5300 does not support WIFI 6 that's why

No - not buggy at all. I have two. One is the router another is a mesh node point. No issues. Rock solid. Are you running dual wan?
