I would say; retrospectively, the show took a turn, that was much more significant than I realised, after Family. After that I very rarely watch any episodes, with the exception of The Body & Intervention; maybe the finale too. kerk

I always get a kick out of how good Buffy is at playing Buffybot.; she said "sexy wounds" with a straight face and everything. I was fooled at first too.

Spike proved that he is truly loyal to Buffy in this episode. I think that the kiss was an acknowledgement by Buffy that she understood it.
I also just want to mention how much lipstick James actually ate during all scenes with Sarah. Not only in this ep. Since season 4 she started wearing a lot of makeup and especially lot of lipstick. He shines like the sun in every their kisses scene, lol

Okay. How? That is something that I can't understand. I can't understand how that's a possible conclusion to get to about Buffy.
When I watched buffy on release I was about the same age as the characters. I didn’t really like buffy. I liked willow and xander for years and then didn’t like them as much later. Watching as an ‘older’ person (ok, old crone), I like buffy very much more and hate willow and xander from the get go. All things I don’t like in them, by the end of their respective arcs I see in them from the start. I think a lot of that is about the perspective that we view the characters from. I’ve changed, the characters didn’t. They were always flawed.

Yeah, future Domi. Buffy gets TOUGH after 5x15 and season six is "Depression, the tv series". But it's like the robot April says in 5x15: "things are always... darkest". :v To be fair, I love this dark of Buffy A LOT. They made us love those characters so much that it hits different when tragedy strikes in a show like this one

There is a whole metaphorical subtext to BTVS. In that context, the line "You couldnt tell me apart from a robot" might actually be pretty tragic. It is all open to interpretation I guess.

They had couple of 'first kisses'. But this one is the first real one and it was the purest thing I've seen on this show. And it's so different from most of their story. So there are lot of hopes when you first see it.
And he didn't ask her for anything and didn't expect anything for what he did. Because he decided that he should help her and somehow protect her and who she loves. He can't let anything bad happen and can't even let her be sad. I am sorry but not every man is actually capable of doing this. And all that she learned from this story is that 'okay you can stay next to me and I won’t punch you in the face and I can ask you for more help'.
The kiss Buffy gave Spike wasn't romantic. It was her thanking him for what he had done, and was willing to do, to protect her and Dawn. Spike may be evil - but he has always been more romantic than other vampires. He may be obsessing over Buffy with what he knows is a warped form of love - but he was willing to risk his immortal existence to protect that. Buffy recognized that, and honored that the only way she knew would feel real to him, despite how she felt about the Buffy bot.
As she told him - what he did, that was real. It meant something real. Spike earned that kiss. In a sense, it was like when Spike went to kill Buffy, but she was hurting due to what Joyce was going through - and he put down the gun and just sat with her. That too was real. Somewhere inside Spike, his demon has been 'corrupted' by Spike's romanticism.
It fits very perfect with the later episode where Spike says he knows she'll never love him, but she treats him like a man. In that that moment connects because it wasn't even close to a love kiss, but gratitude and respect.
Yes, I stopped the reaction to see if anyone beat me to it on this one: the very nature of that kiss is not one of attraction. It's meaningful in that she was truly grateful to him, but that is all it is.
@@melenatorr This is so true. This was the main feeling I had the first time I saw this episode, but both Domi and Lexi seemed overly invested in the Spuffiness of that moment. Maybe that's because they both heard that Spuffy was a thing by now and are wondering how that happens, or maybe it's just because it's nice to focus on something else other than the heaviness of Joyce's death at this point.
It is a tricky moment to define. However it seems to me if it was just expressing gratitude then a warm hug would have sufficed. Certainly if it had been Tara or Giles or anyone else in that situation, Buffy would not kiss them like that. It wasn’t love but it wasn’t a completely platonic moment either.
@@stephaniebarker472 I don't think Spike could have endured a hug without a lot of "ouches" at that moment.
I think the "love is pain" quite in this episode applies pretty much to spike. He makes buffybot to love her without being in pain, but actually he proved he really loves her by enduring pain so as to protect dawn.
🤔 In my mind, the monks had to also alter Spike’s memories and what’s a good reason for him to be protective of Dawn? Being in love with her big sis! Spike is love’s b*tch after all 😆. His attraction and romantic feelings for Buffy were subconscious but, combined with the chip bringing William out more, they were brought to the surface by the monks.

this is also such a great little breath of relief, after those 2 really sad episodes. Buffybot is so funny. my fave Buffybot scene will always be her interactions with Anya. the pure delight on Anya's face after Buffybot asks her about her money- its SO good lol. also that last scene of Buffy pretending to be the bot to find out whether Spike told on them or not ad the kiss of appreciation Buffy gave him after finding out he still refused after being tortured. I don't condone him doing the do with Buffybot, but that was a really sweet scene.
You know how a queen has her champion, but still has a king. I kind of think of Spike like that. You know the queen nights the champion. He did save her sister's life, or the Key. Whatever, her sister Buffy has accepted that role. So yes, he's a perv, but aside from that, that was a genuine, and very important thing Will did. So, because he did it for her, it deserved a little love. Since Buffy is now, "very" aware of his feelings, and this lines up what she said. That "that was real," so she(the Queen) gave him something real, as a thank you. Plus I kind of think she just dubbed him as her champion which is kind of questionable after I said all that...

LEXIIIII!! I wasn't expecting this! Such a great surprise. I love this episode because it's such a turning point for so many things even though it seems like it's a mostly throw away episode.
The Buffybot in Intervention lends for some great comedy moments, but the serious side is Spike's obsession with Buffy reaching crazy and dangerous levels. Interesting that Spike did not tell Glory who the Key was, even though he is soulless he seems to be changing, his feelings seem genuine, of course because of the chip he cannot attack humans, but nevertheless things seems very different. The kiss from the real Buffy seems so telling. A pivotal moment in the show.
Exactly:a pivotal moment that made me forever think of him as a walking plot hole. I really don't know how everybody can be so chill about him behaving 100% like a human despite not having a soul.🤦♂

Great episode for comedy and grossness. It's interesting in that way. By the end, I don't really see Spike as having learned a lesson (he's soulless so that doesn't really make sense - doing good doesn't change his soulless status, just makes it easier for him to hide behind), I see it as Buffy unintentionally gave him re-newed hope. It was a thank you after disinviting him. So, now Spike has renewed hope that isn't really what he is percieving.
The Scoobies were so adamant that April was a robot, but couldn't pick up the exact same signs from the Buffybot. The excuse of Buffy acting off because of her mom could work if the group hadn't been so _it's so obvious about April that anyone who doesn't know are dumb._ They put themselves in the dumb position by not seeing it. Buffy had a right to be upset they couldn't see it.
I never liked the title of this episode. Interventions on this show are always the Scoobies chastizing Buffy for what they don't like whether it's actually wrong or not. And considering the intervention is about them doing so for what the bot does and get solved pretty quickly (another reason I think Buffy has the right to be upset they couldn't tell her apart from a robot), the title just seems off.
Kelly Donavan was in the credits because Nicholas Brendan was sick for a bit during this episode's filming.

It's funny, 621 is kind of the turning point where everyone emerges from the smoldering ashes and they start to come through the other side. Not that season 7 is without its drama, it's just a bit more balanced like season 2. The writers made a pledge to have fun again, and it shows, more or less.

Posting my BUFFY REWATCH recap for ‘Intervention’. May contain spoilers.
A few questions I have with this little conversation between Willow and what she believes is Buffy but is actually Buffybot because I am a little confused by it:
First of all, being a whiz kid with computer technology and AI herself,... how in the world did Willow not recognize that she was talking to a robot? I mean with her past experience with Malcolm as well as how observant she is with figuring out stuff that doesn’t seem quite right. Noticing how out of context it is etc...
Second, with Buffybot referring to her being Buffy’s best friend and recently gay, how did she not recognize that that wasn’t Buffy? Buffy doesn’t talk like that.
Third, why is Willow so disturbed over the thought of Buffy sleeping with Spike? She thought it was flattering when Spike found her attractive enough to want to bite her in her dorm room. She also seems to think grief would drive Buffy to it. She brings up how Buffy had first been with Angel but that that was different because he had a soul - even though the whole event caused him to lose it.
Perhaps I’m overthinking it too much and they just wrote Willow responding like this just to further aid in the drama surrounding the situation of Buffybot. But maybe you guys could help me out in answering these questions. I know when the real Buffy does start being physically intimate with Spike and Tara tells Willow about it that she is very concerned by it. But unless it’s a jealousy thing - I really don’t get why she in particular is so disturbed by it. Concerned, sure - because Buffy is her best friend and she doesn’t want to see her get hurt. Disturbed, no. I get it with Xander because he originally had a crush on Buffy and is discriminatory towards Spike. But not Willow. I don’t think she had a crush, nor do I think she’s discriminatory towards Spike. It doesn’t make sense.

"Love, give, forgive" she does this right at the end in a sense.
People say its a thank you kiss. Who gives a kiss to someone who they are uncomfortable with the knowledge that they love you?
It means she's not really uncomfortable with his love. She was only uncomfortable with her subconscious feelings of physical attraction, IMO. Because he was just a evil, annoying vampire to her before.
In the end he proves he can be genuinely good and she becomes comfortable with her attraction.

I'm experiencing some weird vertiigo-inducing perplexities over this multiple-histories time-travel arc of yours. Lexi's channel says you & she collabbed over a year ago (tho' I coincidentally just saw it last week, 1st time), yet here you both are again, seemingly fresh as daisies, or [insert name of fave flower(s) here], and I believe this just happened. Okay, time to stop the overthinking, and just say I loved the double collab before, and moreso again now that it's a doubled double. [Insert X-files theme+floating equations meme here.]
Since you and Lexi can't stay in sync over Buffandriana, maybe you could contact EvilQK, who's just about where you are in the Buffange sequence, or else Dakara, who's only a few eps behind, so you can have more of these two-heads-better-than-one post-show analyses. ... Just a thought. ⁇
