I feel personally people sleep on the Il’s, I personally recommend the IL-10 I’ve even fought against early jets in it and won before but the guns are really good and most people are dumb enough to frontal fight it

So you do spare people sometimes when they're on fire? I've had players show mercy to me in tank battles if i'm immobilised or on fire. Always sent them a thank you and avoided targeting them for duration of match. It's so rare in my experience that it's something I notice

It's iffy on whether or not to take a kill if they put their fire out. If they're clearly still flying and a threat, then go for it, but if they're clearly done for (i.e. falling out of the sky or flat spinning) then let them go. I know I can't be the only one who gets a bit annoyed when someone wastes ammo on a guy who's definitely out of the fight.
