    I have around 15 small engines, lawn mowers, gensets, etc... always use sta-bil, never empty tanks anymore. Just keep them full, no problems ever, anymore. When you tear carbs apart every year, you learn. A little acetone every now and then. Do what you want, this works for me.

    Just got this generator and ran it for a hour to break it in. Then hooked it up to my camping trailer and figured I try the air conditioner which is a 15000 btu and it started it and ran it beautifully. This is the biggest load I would put on it. Love the size and weight compared to the bigger 3500 generators. I also ran it on just propane that’s the main reason I bought it since I don’t want to mess with gasoline. Great video with all the info and I also put a hour meter on it.

      Yeah does it have a soft start?

    • @MR_Garage
      @MR_Garage  6 месяцев назад

      For both of you, you would not in any way need a soft start with a 3000W rated generator (continuous output rating, not peak) on a 15K BTU AC. The most inefficient dometic 15K BTU AC units will start on a generator capable of 2300W (continuous rated power). Even my 13.5K BTU AC will start in the dead of summer off an ecoflow 1800W rated output without soft start :)
      The only time you would get in trouble starting a 13.5 or 15K BTU AC with this generator would be if your hot water heaters electric side was turned on, or the microwave was running prior to the AC starting. Or, if you were running a 1000W+ draw other appliance like an electric heater, coffee pot or toaster prior to the AC starting up.

    I loved the info and showing the easy mods. I also bought this generator two months ago. I have about 8 hours on it and 4-5 oil changes for the break in period. This is my first intro to generators and i may have gone over board with the oil changes. I can confirm that the last oil change looked a lot better then the first 3.
    I will be added the hour meter, the new plug and i already have the magnetic oil plug. I'm a visual leaner and i do appreciate you taking the time to do this. When you get to 50-hours miles a great video would be a overall maintenance video showing items listed on the service schedule. I would like to learn how to clean the Carb float bowl, how to check the valve clearance and how to remove carbon deposits on the cylinder head.
    Edit: i watched your first video, Thanks for showing the inside. I also been testing this Generator to run my HF Titanium 200 welder. I have run 6010, 6013 & 7018 sticks with it @ 120v. It seems to run okay when i'm able to start and hold the arc. Starting the arc is a bit hard as it takes 1 sec or so for the generator to rev up. Once it revs up to full power welding with it is a breeze. Is there a mod to trick the Gen to rev higher with out a load? I would like to rev it up the few times i weld with it. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge.

    • @MR_Garage
      @MR_Garage  11 месяцев назад

      Glad it helped! I go overboard on oil changes in all my small equipment so no worries. Also, I will for sure do a maintenance check video down the road when I get some more time on the generator and will show valve clearance.
      As for revving it up, the only way I know offhand is to turn off auto-idle but that will not rev all the way up. Was thinking a small load to kep rev's up say 500W but that welder can easily run this gen right to its max. I will explore a bit on the idea of keeping revs up.

    I’m breaking mine in as I type this. It arrived today as did my hour meter and magnetic oil plug. I plan on running this entirely on propane as a cheaper way of keeping the batteries charged in my motorhome while dry camping, I like the fact that I will be able to run one of my A/C’s without having to fire up my big generator.

      @@MR_Garage I changed the oil after the first hour and it was pretty gray, looked a lot like yours. I ran it the second time for 1 1/2 hours and it cleared up quite a bit so I changed it and ran it another hour with a heat gun plugged in. It was cleaner than the second change so I put fresh oil in it and plugged it into my motorhome and turned the heat strip on on one of the a/c’s plus two small space heaters, I don’t know how many watts that is but it’s a pretty good load, it ran it fine. After an hour I changed the oil and it was dark like the first time. I repeated this process until I put 10 hours on it. The oil cleared up quite a bit so I switched over to Mobile 1. I haven’t run it since.
      Overall, I think it’s a good little generator, only time will tell. It is pretty loud when it’s loaded up, but you made that clear in your review. Oh yeah, by the way, I did turn one of my 13.5 btu a/c’s on and it ran it with no problem, no soft start needed. The voltage dropped to around 85 for a split second and then right back to 125.
      It cost me $530 delivered to the house from Walmart and arrived in two days. Quite a bargain if it stands the test of time.

    Awesome video. I am thinking about getting two of these and a parallel kit. I will alternate using each to keep them broken in and such, but parallel them when I need to power a bunch of stuff, but like being able to separate them to run the fridge near the front of the house and a portable AC for the back bedroom if power is lost. Live in Florida and get hurricanes. I like doing 2 because if one were to tank, I would have the other and could replace the bad one. I like that even though it is self contained, it is easy to fill and drain the oil and same with the fuel drain.

    • @MR_Garage
      @MR_Garage  19 дней назад +1

      I like the idea of doing two in parallel as well. You can use a single to save fuel when large demand is not needed or a pair when higher demand is required. Makes more sense to me that buying a single large unit.

      I have not had a need to jet it yet on gas. Just runs. No thick spark arrestor to clog at altitude when it starts to run really rich. Also, this carb is pretty advanced with the propane addition. Kind of gave it the side eye when I had the case apart thinking how much I did not want to take it apart 😅But in reality, likely not bad at all to figure out a jet if needed. For me though, this gen will only ever be run on propane. No plans to ever run it on gas again unless there is an emergency and I have no option.

      It was. Fully understanding the concrete can amplify the sound a little. BUT, I am testing all generators this way so apples to apples. Who is to say an RV or TT is not parked on a slab at a site? What would be interesting, is a quick test of how much of a difference does it actually make. Will maybe do that in a future video. My bet is not more than a 3dB change.

    Does your spark plug wire socket have a rubber boot around it that pushes firmly into the surround hole around the spark plug? Mine only has an upper rubber “cap” that covers the top of the hole, but no rubber around the plastic wire connector. So it vibrates. I think it’s missing on my unit. I have other brand units that have the rubber that makes a firm seal around that hole and keeps it secure. Any chance you can add some photos of yours?

    I have been thinking about this more as I got the newer model and am trying to return it now as you ended up returning it as they have fixed nothing.
    The thing I have been thinking about with this generator is how long do you think it will last? My understanding is that most generators are either 3,600 RPM or top out at 3,600 RPM. This one is clear it is spinning much faster under load. I have heard that these go at 4,500 RPM. Can you confirm as what I hear, this sounds likely. Also noise wise, I would think 3,600 RPM would be quieter.
    As I live in a "hippy place" that bans a lot of generators and I am coming across other generators that have glaring QA issues, the next generator I am finding in this class is the Predator 5000. While these are very different generators, I would like to see a comparison between this generator and the Predator 5000. You have mentioned a Predator before when reviewing this Pulsar, but I am wondering if you are willing to deep dive between these two so we can more clearly see how very different these two are and the pros and cons of both. Right off the bat there is the elephant in the room in that the Predator 5000 is a 110 lb beast for nearly twice as much money compared to this 'tiny' generator. But there are a lot of details that could cause someone to buy one or another. One is I am curious about is support as so far Pulsar support is sucking. If you have a warranty, need to know how good it is really rather than just going I am going to void it, so it doesn't matter.

    • @MR_Garage
      @MR_Garage  7 месяцев назад +1

      I had a predator 3500 for a long time. Excellent generator but also well over 110lbs with fuel. The 5000 is very large but an excellent generator according to reviews. I have no plans to purchase one.
      Polaris support is pretty bad. I have tried to use their support before. For basic answers they are quick. But once you get into troubleshooting or more in-depth topics, they stop responding. They seem to just rely on returns through their vendors. For some, that is the best route. For others like us that can resolve something, leaves us with little to work with.

    • @ChaJ67
      @ChaJ67 7 месяцев назад

      @@MR_Garage what I hit for returns through Amazon is they subletted through Skytech who said they would not take returns, so Amazon was talking about an A-to-z refund. However, I was thinking about what you said about changing the spark plug straight out of the box and so changed the spark plug and that helped a lot. Still not a great idle, but not sputtering and surging anymore.

    I’m thinking of getting this unit and I have experience with a bunch of other inverter gens, including Honda, Yamaha, predator, champion and generac. How does the sound compare to other suitcase units ? In your first video you said it’s about as quiet as the big predator 3500 at idle. What are your thoughts at 50 and 100% load. It seemed to really scream load at full load. Not that anyone should be running full load for any period of time. But how was 50% compared to other units ?

    • @MR_Garage
      @MR_Garage  11 месяцев назад +2

      Hello. At idle and say 50-60% range, it is very comparable to any other smaller inverter generator. Very normal and tolerable. Once you rev to 100% load, it is louder than others I have used. Not talking crazy loud or open frame loud, but noticeably louder than I would have expected and will not pass state park tests at full tilt. A trade off for how compact it is and ultra low weight. The little engine has to be much higher performance to be able to produce this level of output which = louder.

      I know that's a tough one. I called Pulsar and asked them. Took a while, and their best guess was about 1/2 gallon per hour. As you say, it all depends on the load and more. Between your answer and theirs. I think I may buy one. So much less mess, less smell, no liquid spills, and no more plugged carbs from old gas. 2 twenty lbers would work well with off grid camping. On propane. Are they a bit harder to start, or in cold weather? I'm going to use it for my travel trailer with 2 lithium 100ah batteries and 600 watts of solar. Ha!
