I maybe mistaken but I think Nobuo Uematsu was writing the soundtracks for both FF8 and FF9 at roughly the same time. Both have phenomenal soundtracks with so many memorable tracks!
@@spekyyeti4625 Yep, it has nothing really much to do with the time itself, but the fact that Nobuo Uematsu did the tracks and was limited to the PSF format which gives those music pieces a very profound unique sound, that was lost when space limitations weren't an issue anymore. We most likely call this the best music, because of the nostalgia. For the same reason our previous generation has the same kink on module tracker files.
Love this song! I think I one-shot this form of the boss with a Squall renzo just by Junctioning Ultima to Str and with +Str %s ... I was probably much lower level than the player in the video. Boss HP ranges from ~50k-~150k depending on your level
If there's any boss theme that screams "MAIN CHARACTER", it's this one. This isn't for Ultimecia, it's for Squall. This resonates in the fight itself as once Griever's sustained enough damage once again, he disintegrates, presumably taking Ultimecia with him. However, we all know what's next. Fithos....Lusec.....Wecos....Vinosec _guitar riff_ See you at The Extreme!
start of this song feels like some shaman ritual battle... this whole final sequence was one heck of a fight and i'm glad i finally understand it fully....
@@kiriuxeosa8716 It's really not. The whole battle system is broken... Leveling up is actually a detriment. And things about the story could use expanding. Like for instance, a scene involving Cid and Norg arguing with each other with Cid putting the interest of the kids first, and Norg putting profit first, would help explain who Norg is since he comes out of nowhere. And it would establish Cid as a kind character early on (as currently he seems like an oddball who sends kids into warzones for money.) If future Squall gives young Squall his griever ring too at the end of the game, that would be a nice way to explain the connection between Squall and Griever, since by that point, Squall has come to understand that Griever is Ultimecia's Guardian Force, not his. There's lots they could add to the plot to make things clearer and enhance the themes. Squall's coldness also could benefit from a better translation and more subtle performance too to show he's not just some psycho who hates his friends. There are lots of things they could do to enhance or emphasise certain story points which can be easily missed. IMO, it'd make sense to have FF8 Remake be in two parts... 1st part leads up to the Battle of the Gardens (and the 2nd fight with Edea) which concludes the Edea villain arc (and the game structure makes sense since you'd get Balamb Garden in mobile mode just before the end of the game, which will allow you to revisit prior areas and finish side content.) I also think it'd be pretty epic if they made the Training Centre into a holodeck room where you can train not just in a jungle environment, but simulate areas like Ifrit's Cavern or the Tomb where the Brothers GF lies, etc. A big issue with remaking these games is it takes a lot of work to make environment assets for even one area like Ifrit's Cavern... and you only spend like 10 minutes in it in the OG game. So allowing you to revisit these areas in a VR form would extend the side content of the game, and make it more worthwhile to develop these areas despite spending only a little time in it in the main scenario. Ultimecia also could use more elaboration as she is the ultimate villain but only really talked about at the end. Having the game be 2 parts, with the first part only hinting towards her could work... but Part 2 would need to really develop Ultimecia as a looming threat, and maybe give us flashbacks of Edea wrestling with Ultimecia in her mind, so we get to see what she wants, and who she is. Battle wise I think it should be close to FF7R but for instance, you can only Draw magic from foes when they're pressured / staggered.
@@Zurardi lol what? Very very very bizarre reply. I specifically write that Squall is "not just a psycho who hates his friends" and you remove the "not" that I wrote at the start of that, and accuse me of calling him a psycho? I'm genuinely confused by your reply. I specifically said that a remake could help clarify his mental state, since text (specifically the mistranslation of everything as "Whatever...") is rather cold. While an acted performance can give his character more subtlety. FF8's protagonist could benefit greatly from more intricate depiction due to the complexity of Squall's abandonment issues and such.
I would never change anything about this game except 1 thing I would like the opportunity to get Griever for myself The fact you even name and acknowledge the existence of "The most powerful GF" And can't ever get it makes me salty IT BELONGS TO SQUALL!
I think it would be cool for a New Game + type thing, since it's Ultimecia who creates Griever from Squall's imagination, and you only ever fight him right at the end. I think it'd be even cooler if they tweaked the story to add a scene where future Squall gives the young Squall his Griever ring, and tells him that the ring will protect him because it has the ultimate guardian force inside it. Although clearly it's just a ring... but the idea that young Squall believes him and uses his own imagination to give him the strength to then conquer Ultimecia's embodiment of that in the final battle, would be a nice addition, and add extra depth to his association with Griever.
Playing 14 shadowbringers and then looking at this boss just made me realize the last lightwarden boss of the first dungeon is modeled after this form the tail and arms gave it away lol. I remember making a bebo skin after i beat this boss years ago. Had across the top " heart of a lion" Lionheart. i was a kid but my mom may she rest in peace always thought i had one. Man the nostalgia.
Legendary Beast is miles better than this soudtrack. Maybe I am a Lion is pretty mediocre and boring but it's played during the entirety of the fight. It's stupid how Premonition keeps on playing when Griever is summoned and it's only switched to Legendary Beast when he's casting Shockwave Pulsar while at the brink of death, ffs.
FF8 had all the bangers! 9 is the same. What a golden era of bgms!

I called him GRR BAH on my first playthrough as a reference to Milon's death quote in FF2 SNES. Was worth a cheap laugh.
If 9 really gets a proper remake and 8 doesn't, I'll cry. 😭
If 8 gets the 7 remake treatment I'll cry more

Considering we got half a game in the end ( ff8 was supposed to be 8 discs ), yep definitely but keep the old turn based system.
