Is Marvel getting desperate? IMO yes they are. The first hit that Disney has had in theaters in years was Deadpool and Wolverine. D&W was a movie that starred Fox superheroes that made fun of the MCU and the multiverse. Bringing back RDJ is 100% desperation. It's sad that Dr Doom is now a Tony Stark variant. What a waste of a great character.
These actors get so overexposed it can already get hard to suspend belief. I want to be able to re-watch Ironman appearance movies without seeing Stark/Doom. It's bad enough I can't see Thor without being tainted by the Endgame stoner comedy failure Thor.
I like how marvel made 25 movies over 15 years and the creative lesson they learned is “if RDJ is in it it people will like it and it will make over 1 billion”. I feel like this is the final death blow for marvel, admitting that we’re all out of ideas, in fact we never had any ideas, all we had was RDJ. It almost makes me think differently about the whole MCU
Could be going the prosthetics and heavy makeup route where he actually plays Victor and not some Stark variant. Like he did in The Sympathizer or how Farrell does with Penguin.
But then, why pick RDJ exactly? Then it could have been anyone. Unless they really just want to bait people to go see the movie, just because it's RDJ.
Movie studios just completely ignoring fans and doing whatever they want and being genuinely surprised when it fails, is the craziest pattern to keep repeating.
I feel like itll confuse general audiences more tbh. Middle america mum n dad taking their kids who like marvel know him as iron man, they probably have no idea who dr doom is as a baseline. If they use his face, i think it will confuse audiences who arent into comics
That’s a good point. Sure most anyone who saw the panel or the photos can suspend the disbelief, but what about little Timmy who’s grown up only seeing RDJ as Ironman? It almost makes it sound like he will keep the mask on
@@bloodbane93 i would hope so! Im so far in the camp of "why didnt you cast literally anyone else", it seems like a hail mary for sure, cause RDJ wouldntve been cheaper than choosing a new actor im sure of it. But if its just his voice, i could get behind that
We DO know who bought Avengers tower. It was Julia Louis-Dreyfus, as a base for the Thunderbolts* (*Expect 'Thunderbolts' to be rebranded as 'The New Avengers' after President Thunderbolt goes ape shit wild).
I mean, RDJ could be a great Dr Doom, but it’s weird to recast RDJ in the MCU after so many years as Iron Man. There’s probably gonna be multi-versal shenanigans at play…
He was considered for the role for the 2005 movie And Mark Ruffalo actually auditioned for the role of Doctor Doom for the 1990s unreleased Fantastic Four movie
If we can have Chris Evans as Johnny Storm and Steve Rogers then why can't we have RDJ as both Tony Stark and Viktor Von Doom? Seriously y'all idolize too much the person behind the character too much.
We are not getting a surprise REAL Victor Von Doom. That’s just being in the bargaining phase of the stages of grief. Reminds me how some were saying Jesse Essienberg was actually only Lex Jr. and his dad would be the actual Lex.
If you thought Kang was going bad why would you be fine with them having to pivot into a desperation move? There's no way it's any better than the Kang stuff was
What was nice with the MCU, Phase 1 and 2 let's say, was that it was easy to follow and you could understand it, unlike the comics who, let's be honest, are a hard thing to grasp with the lore and history of EVERYTHING. Feels like the MCU is like the comics now.
My gut reaction was also "this is a desperate act", but then I found out that there are multiple "Tony Stark/Victor von Doom switcheroo" stories and realised that Marvel has always been -despe- "creative" with how it uses its characters.
If I didn’t know who was playing Doom at all, I would have appreciated it more finding out it was RDJ doing a voice in the movie. The mask better not be coming off during the movie is all I’m saying.
My major issue with this casting is the Whitewashing. Why couldn't they get a real Latverian sorcerer to play this man? They're wasting so much money on special effects ffs
Every movie he plays in i see Tony Stark. When he came out on stage as Doom it was literally Tony Stark saying Im Iron Man at the press conference. This literally makes me want to vomit.
You really hit the nail on the head there, Phase 3 or 4 or whatever it was felt like a whole lot of nothing. With the previous ones we knew that Thanos was looking for the infinity stones...with the multiverse we knew nothing about Kang's motivation and how it related to the movies in the phase.
With the re introduction of Wesley Snipes as Blade in the new Deadpool movie could we please get a Caravan of garbage on Blade II and Blade III, you said you would in your Blade I video 4 years ago
funny you ended this with "end the multiverse" because the 2015 secret wars comic series did exactly that, it was about the 616 & 1610 universes colliding and annihilating each other, after which a new realm is born containing elements of many different universes (battleworld), complete with multiple iterations of all the characters. ultimate marvel, house of m, age of apocalypse, marvel 1610 and all the other offshoot settings went the way of the dodo in that story, so maybe the russos are planning a similar grand reset with their secret wars movie?
I also feel like he's just left. And we've barely had anytime to miss him. But that's because we haven't had any Avengers movies without him or even any team ups really. So his presence really hasn't, not, been felt yet
There was emphasis on RDJ saying, "New Mask, same task" at comic con. It's obvious that he won't put a shield around Earth. Instead, he'll make it the sword and make it his mission to conquer the galaxy. You could establish this mission in the post credit scene of Fantastic Four, which features Galactus coming to that version of earth to try and destroy it, and the Tony Stark or Von Doom of that world takes charge afterwards. That will be the way to tie him with the Fantastic Four.
Here's my prediction: They do the Dr Evil backstory but instead it's Tony Stark getting saved from a crash and adopted by the Von Dooms. So it's both a Tony Stark variant and still Victor Von Doom.
My first thought was "are there really no other actors in thew world?" I get that they are scrambling with the Kang situation, but come on, it shouldn't be RDJ back.
They should have just gotten Ty Simpkins back to play a Kang variant and then had him become Iron Lad. But of course Marvel wants their cash cow back. I love RDJ but come on.
I was really hoping for James and Maso to say “Son of a Prime Minister” in unison Or for there to be a highlight read of them pronouncing “McMahon” or them saying “son of a Prime Minister”
5:43 you say kang wasn’t working but I disagree, the way he was set up in Loki was awesome but they should have had him pop up in every couple of movies, once every few tv shows, like thanos and the stones did, not have him get bodied in ant man, because at least he was a known quantity, F4 is gonna have to do some heavy leg work in setting up doom
Would have been better if they kept the reveal for the film. The purpose of dooms mask is to hide his face since hes disfigured. Having it crack/break and reveal RDJ instead would have been the best surprise cameo in MCU history. The way they did it here was absolutely out of desperation and eyeballs.
If RDJ really leans into being a different character with a different look, different makeup, voice, mannerisms, maybe even a bit of prosthetic I think it could work. Maybe at some point there is a throwaway meta commentary line alluding to how much he looks like Stark; kind of like the recent buildup to the Chris Evans reveal in DPAW. On one hand, if he's the best man for the job, let him have it. On the other, I'm disappointed we don't get a great new actor in the MCU for Doom.
It would be a maybe if they put the Doom mask on, buy I don't think they will do that. It will be RDJ for 99% of the movie. If that is the case, then you're just bringing Iron Man back.
The exact reason Disney casted RDJ was to get people talking about “oh what if ___ shows up and-“ instead of the story of it. I love James and Maso but they fell directly into it The thing about Doom, is you couldn’t have gotten a negative reaction from casting an unknown, especially a Romani actor. Casting someone with familiarity like RDJ was the worst move possible for arguably one of the most iconic villains of all time For a new Caravan of Garbage, I’d really look into some iconic comics for Doom and it’ll become readily transparent that the casting was a bad move. Doom is someone that needs as much if not *more* building up to than Kang/Thanos
For people like me who haven't watched the Disney + shows Kang's entire presence was that he was just some idiot who got beat up by Ant-Man and I think that's hilarious

@@Persephone_Personifiednah I think after 10 years of having his face be the face of marvel I think he’s up for it
@@Persephone_PersonifiedCould just be the take on Doom that he actually only has a tiny blemish and is just incredibly vain.
@@Persephone_Personified RDJ literally did an entire movie in Black face so I don't think scars & a mask are outside the realm of possibility at all; he might even do an accent. You speak of him like he's Tom Cruise or The Rock or something
I’m sure it’ll be a fucked up Tony Stark.. but I don’t really hate the idea of
Is Marvel getting desperate? IMO yes they are. The first hit that Disney has had in theaters in years was Deadpool and Wolverine. D&W was a movie that starred Fox superheroes that made fun of the MCU and the multiverse. Bringing back RDJ is 100% desperation. It's sad that Dr Doom is now a Tony Stark variant. What a waste of a great character.
“I still feel like he just left…”
Bro, the past five years have been so fucking rough that it feels like it’s been over a decade now.
It almost makes me think differently about the whole MCU
it's good you have common sense.
I mean... That's literally what happened with Deadpool and Wolverine. Bring back Hugh Jackman = $
@@diegomedina9637the deadpool series by their 4th wall breaking style makes it more okay. Deadpool is not that serious, borderline parody.
Could be going the prosthetics and heavy makeup route where he actually plays Victor and not some Stark variant. Like he did in The Sympathizer or how Farrell does with Penguin.
They are not dumping truckloads of money on Robert Downey Jr. just to hide his face
But then, why pick RDJ exactly? Then it could have been anyone. Unless they really just want to bait people to go see the movie, just because it's RDJ.
Lol, “Call me Sssssteve. 🐍🐍🐍”
Val bought Avergers tower.
They said it at SDCC during the Thunderbolts panel.
It was Julia Louis-Dreyfus, as a base for the Thunderbolts*
(*Expect 'Thunderbolts' to be rebranded as 'The New Avengers' after President Thunderbolt goes ape shit wild).
Yes. The answer is yes. So many better choices for Doom and they chose RDJ
I mean, RDJ could be a great Dr Doom, but it’s weird to recast RDJ in the MCU after so many years as Iron Man. There’s probably gonna be multi-versal shenanigans at play…
He's a great actor but that's not why he's been cast as Doom
He was considered for the role for the 2005 movie
And Mark Ruffalo actually auditioned for the role of Doctor Doom for the 1990s unreleased Fantastic Four movie
"People will call this desperate or lazy"
It's me I'm people
Considering how badly Kang was going, I’m fine with this.
If you thought Kang was going bad why would you be fine with them having to pivot into a desperation move? There's no way it's any better than the Kang stuff was
@@tristanpotter2183Kang in Ant-Man wasn't a threat. Scott didn't need any other Avengers to deal with him.
@@perceivedvelocity9914 ok and?
@@perceivedvelocity9914that’s because of poor writing not because the character was a “weak” villain
@@KDOGGBOINobody said the character was bad.
Dr Doomlittle
If they wanted him back as a villain, should've just done Superior Iron Man
I think Hollywood itself is getting desperate, they're making a frickin Skibidi Toilet movie with Michael Bay
What was nice with the MCU, Phase 1 and 2 let's say, was that it was easy to follow and you could understand it, unlike the comics who, let's be honest, are a hard thing to grasp with the lore and history of EVERYTHING. Feels like the MCU is like the comics now.
Dr. Doom is barely gonna wear his iconic mask. That’s what I realized.
Yeah to show the audience his Scars are completely in his head like in some of the comic book runs.
My gut reaction was also "this is a desperate act", but then I found out that there are multiple "Tony Stark/Victor von Doom switcheroo" stories and realised that Marvel has always been -despe- "creative" with how it uses its characters.
Yes. Next question.
To quote Nick Fury: "You have made me VERY desperate. You might not be glad that you did."
If I didn’t know who was playing Doom at all, I would have appreciated it more finding out it was RDJ doing a voice in the movie. The mask better not be coming off during the movie is all I’m saying.
Yeah. I haven’t been emotionally invested in a marvel movie in a long time, I don’t even know where we’re at anymore.
My major issue with this casting is the Whitewashing. Why couldn't they get a real Latverian sorcerer to play this man? They're wasting so much money on special effects ffs
romani. Doom is romani. Latveria isn't a real country.
@@ChisomagaIhezie Sorcerers aren't real either. Congrats on not getting the joke
Every movie he plays in i see Tony Stark. When he came out on stage as Doom it was literally Tony Stark saying Im Iron Man at the press conference. This literally makes me want to vomit.
The ultimate move would’ve been to recast Kang with RDJ
You really hit the nail on the head there, Phase 3 or 4 or whatever it was felt like a whole lot of nothing. With the previous ones we knew that Thanos was looking for the infinity stones...with the multiverse we knew nothing about Kang's motivation and how it related to the movies in the phase.
I love your commentary!
With the re introduction of Wesley Snipes as Blade in the new Deadpool movie could we please get a Caravan of garbage on Blade II and Blade III, you said you would in your Blade I video 4 years ago
funny you ended this with "end the multiverse" because the 2015 secret wars comic series did exactly that, it was about the 616 & 1610 universes colliding and annihilating each other, after which a new realm is born containing elements of many different universes (battleworld), complete with multiple iterations of all the characters. ultimate marvel, house of m, age of apocalypse, marvel 1610 and all the other offshoot settings went the way of the dodo in that story, so maybe the russos are planning a similar grand reset with their secret wars movie?
imagine all the great actors who would have taken up the Doom role
Why RDJ? Mads Mikkelsen is right there for Dr.Doom
It’ll be a freaky Friday time travel situation
I agree. Wish they would have stuck it out with Kang and better writing
I also feel like he's just left. And we've barely had anytime to miss him. But that's because we haven't had any Avengers movies without him or even any team ups really. So his presence really hasn't, not, been felt yet
Fr. I'm tired of seeing rdj. Bring Kang guy back, though I don't really fancy him either.
2:28 I don't remember Scarlet Witch wearing that in Infinity War...
This should have stopped with Endgame.
If he weren't already Iron Man I would have liked this casting
There was emphasis on RDJ saying, "New Mask, same task" at comic con.
It's obvious that he won't put a shield around Earth. Instead, he'll make it the sword and make it his mission to conquer the galaxy.
You could establish this mission in the post credit scene of Fantastic Four, which features Galactus coming to that version of earth to try and destroy it, and the Tony Stark or Von Doom of that world takes charge afterwards. That will be the way to tie him with the Fantastic Four.
It’s just now setting in that RDJ will now be in EVERY Avengers movie, not too sure about how I feel about that yet 😂
I've been wondering all week what a "king hit" was. A sucker punch. It's a sucker punch.
Here's my prediction:
They do the Dr Evil backstory but instead it's Tony Stark getting saved from a crash and adopted by the Von Dooms. So it's both a Tony Stark variant and still Victor Von Doom.
All I know is that I'm excited for the bloopers
Vape shop / American candy store. Coming from a New Yorker, this is hilarious.
11:29 I just figured that was to make it clear to the people in the back who they’re looking at 😂
My first thought was "are there really no other actors in thew world?" I get that they are scrambling with the Kang situation, but come on, it shouldn't be RDJ back.
My guess is that there will be another actor as the main Victor Von Doom, and RDJ will be a variant of Doom that just happens to look like Tony Stark.
They should have just gotten Ty Simpkins back to play a Kang variant and then had him become Iron Lad. But of course Marvel wants their cash cow back. I love RDJ but come on.
They should bring in Corn of Coblin.
Doctor Doomlittle 😊
The only multiverse thing I care to see at this point is Ioan Gruffudd as The Maker
I was really hoping for James and Maso to say “Son of a Prime Minister” in unison
Or for there to be a highlight read of them pronouncing “McMahon” or them saying “son of a Prime Minister”
Film director Anthony Asquith was ahead of him by almost a century.
Yeah, once they scrapped Kang my interest fell off. It wasn't the villan that was the problem, just overall execution of the phase.
I believe it's confirmed by Feige that RDJ is playing Victor and not Tony.
Oh god. More of this. Yay..?.. -.-
Coming from a huge fan of the Infinitity Saga, I couldnt be less interested
We getting a podcast episode this week?
Spoiler: we did!
You can recast Robert Downey Jr as Kang using his Tropic Thunder character!!!!! 😅
The Honest Trailers for these two Avengers movies are going to be epic...
Well I'll be a pig rolling down a hill, I'm never this early!
Would have been better if they kept the reveal for the film. The purpose of dooms mask is to hide his face since hes disfigured. Having it crack/break and reveal RDJ instead would have been the best surprise cameo in MCU history.
The way they did it here was absolutely out of desperation and eyeballs.
Been waiting for this 1 crodies
I feel the executives are fearful due to the poor performance/reception of MCU films post endgame. Not my opinion but some very vocal people.
That knock at 6:40 scared me
In my mind there's a universe where Jason Isaacs played Dr Doom and nailed it
Avengers: Payday HAHAHA
Jon Hamm should play Dr Doom
It would be a maybe if they put the Doom mask on, buy I don't think they will do that. It will be RDJ for 99% of the movie. If that is the case, then you're just bringing Iron Man back.
The exact reason Disney casted RDJ was to get people talking about “oh what if ___ shows up and-“ instead of the story of it. I love James and Maso but they fell directly into it
The thing about Doom, is you couldn’t have gotten a negative reaction from casting an unknown, especially a Romani actor. Casting someone with familiarity like RDJ was the worst move possible for arguably one of the most iconic villains of all time
For a new Caravan of Garbage, I’d really look into some iconic comics for Doom and it’ll become readily transparent that the casting was a bad move. Doom is someone that needs as much if not *more* building up to than Kang/Thanos
I thought those molecule references at the end we're going to drop a Owen Reese reference
Is the movie Sucker Punch called King Hit in Australia?!?!
