Strength training and conditioning is an essential part of parkour training and helps to reduce the chance of injury whilst performing the kids of movements usually associated with parkour. You shouldn't train every single day though as the body needs rest days to properly recover and repair muscle. Personally, I do conditioning on Tuesdays, parkour on Thursdays and Saturdays and some other cardio and conditioning exercises on Sunday. I generally rest on other days.
The roll helps to dissipate the force from the drop, translating some of it into horizontal motion. This reduces the force taken by your legs and helps to avoid the likelihood of damage to the knees.
I've used to do Parkour but then started playing more video games and exercising less. This video has inspired me to start Parkour up again. I love it!
No excuses! I do it alone the majority of the time. I simply watch tutorials on youtube go outside and find a spot to do it. It was hard to find a good wall for me to vault so I took an old dresser and set it up in my backyard.
this is inspiring, me and my friends do more freerunning, but i watched this yesterday, and we put free running aside for the night and just focused on the parkour aspect of movement, it teaches how to look at things in a different way, more than just a talent.. its a lifestyle, and me and my friends live it, parkours more useful than freerunning in the long run, freerunning just eye-candy.
You can start parkour at any age, no matter what your fitness level. Even if you did nothing for the next 40 years and asked the same question again, the answer would still be yes, you can train! The only prerequisite for starting parkour is wanting to improve. Find a local parkour group and go and train!
Reaches in deep to the meaning and purpose of parkour. Wonderfully narrarated and you incorporated many reasons and facts about parkour and the world around us, you'd be hard-pressed to find somebody who could argue against this.
i legitamently just started parkour and i love it, it's night so i don't want to wake anyone up so i'll continue the rest some other time. u encouraged me to do something i now really like. thanks bro your a big help.
What ever your name is Obsidian , I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS AND THIS DOCUMENTARY IS TRULY INSPIRING HIGHLIGHTING THE TRUTH ABOUT PARKOUR AND THE TRUTH ABOUT HOW SOCIETY CONDITIONS US WITH BARRIERS I LOVE IT , ive started training for parkour in my gym , since i havnt got the strength yet to do everything you do ive been doing box jumps and sprinting and some of the exercises you do in my garden and started climbing over my fence a lot and up the side of my house! I love parkour now !
Parkour is more than just the ability to move. Parkour is the practice of using movement to get past obstacles in order to develop your abilities. The difference is important. Movement develops physicality and getting past obstacles develops many mental aspects as well. You may not need all abilities on every obstacle, but every obstacle is different.
@energysage Yes, somewhere around that height. The guy who you see getting the top is the only one to have ever made it. Then again, we haven't really tried that particular wall recently.
(im not quite good with english but i wish you to know my thought) This video has information that i havent seen in other videos or websites. Many people spend his life searching something that give them this freedom that we have found in parkour. I have take a transfomation course in my country (mexico, DF) that have change my life in all senses and also have free my mind of many mental barriers, and with parkour that complements my life, now im living like never before, like a kid again
Everything you've said is nothing I haven't thought about or considered but just the fact that you've shared it and it confirms what I already believe in is fantastic. I love you guys and it's because of your videos that I was inspired to start parkour, looking forward to your new videos. Much
My name is Paul ;) It's great to hear that you've started training parkour. The strength will come with time. Just keep working towards goals and build up to things gradually. Good luck with your training!
@JacktheDaniels What I was pointing out though is that parkour requires the use of more of the brain than just the parts that directly handle physical ability. Parkour isn't just about movement, it's about using movement to get past obstacles.
@JacktheDaniels Yes, communication is one of the areas that is needed less for the basic practice of parkour. Parkour doesn't emphasise only physicality. It emphasises physical and mental skills. To get past an obstacle you have to overcome the mental barriers as well as the physical ones. I would define parkour as a practice that has been heavily misunderstood.
wow this is amazing very well put together . best doc ive every seen, really highlights all the amazing reason why i do parkour.love it gonna watch the next one now peace Neal .
@JacktheDaniels I think you're right in that a lot of people have been attracted to parkour largely because it's new and different. However I don't think this means that parkour doesn't affect how you think. After all, it's not your muscles that have to deal with fear, it's not your bones that choose how to get past an obstacle, and it's not your ligaments that decide to train for months to get over the high wall. To move you need to think.
If you feel that your movement is too loud, work on the precision of each movement (also define the term "too loud" for yourself, according to your level, and your goals). In the same time, you could shoot for less challengeing obstacles, but more precise execution of the given moves. As you improve, you will feel that it's much more easier and "better" to train quietly than loudly.
Jesus, that black dude climbing out of the crevice in the rocks is brave man, I couldn't do that man. You guys have inspired me, I haven't got the body for parkour but I'm gonna try just to see how hard it is.
@DinoSwede Do you mean the exercises which were included in the 'no excuses' sessions? If so, you can find a list of the stuff we did, from week to week, if you search for 'northern parkour no excuses' on google. I'd post a link here, but RUclips doesn't allow links within comments unfortunately.
your videos are really good and it helped me to start doing parkour...i wanted to ask that if i do strength training & conditioning everyday then when should i practice the moves & is it good to do strength training & conditioning everyday?
Continued... To move past physical obstacles you need all of the parts of the brain that handle problem solving, because that's what you are doing. That of course means learning, abstract thinking and memory, as well as concentration, imagination, perception, relaxation, evaluation and almost all of the brain's other capabilities. These are demands that are common to many situations, not the least of which are social situations.
Crunches, are probably one of the best things for Parkour work outs- pressup position - Jump to your feet Starjump Back down to pressup position, Pressup, then repeat.
if you are training parkour... have you never been send away from the spots you where training? because of you are standing on roofs or training your climb ups against walls?
If you watch, my other video, The Path Of Least Resistance, you'll see Mike who is now 39. I'm 33. There are plenty of other people who train who are in their 30's and 40's.
@maxmosesman Dave Sedgley wrote the script (the guy doing the voice over!). You can train with us whenever you want. We train in Manchester every week. Feel free to come along.
@Arzenimus Could you not consider the destruction of the cell a form of feeding? It seems like essentially the same process of changing something else into more versions of itself, only done externally rather than internally.
hey there, your videos are very inspirational! I had a question concerning the learning process, I used to do alot of parkour when I was a kid, but that's at least 6-7 years ago at least, I am now nearly 19 and haven't done anything sports like since that time when I used to parkour, I'm still not fat but I wanted to ask if it's still viable and for me to learn and how possible it is for someone in my situation?
I have a question, I live in a very small village in the middle of Norway, and it's getting close to winter. We don't have any specific parks or anything, but I would love to atart training parkour. Any ideas of what I may do as a starting exercise until the winter goes away? :)
man i've been wanting to parkour since i was 15 now im 17 n i'm barely starting i just cant do it here in my place cause there's not much to jump over or climb n all that any tips? i really wanna have you guys's stenght and condition n i know witha lil help i'll get there
Thank you very much for the videos it's inspiring, I started the training and all cramped out :) I want to ask is there a special shoes for training? Thank you again guys your awesome :)
Maher Alsayid I'm glad you enjoyed the videos. There's no specific shoe for parkour but anything which is light, flexible and has a single piece sole should be fine. Find a shoe which you're comfortable with.
I was wondering where I could find your workouts that you do (you talked about them in "Nature of Challenge 1"). I've been to your website and registered, but I can't find the workouts. Please queue me in on it!
@Arzenimus Ah, ok, I was just looking for a word to describe quanta of life. It does seem to be a difficult distinction. :) Just to change the subject entirely, is it possible to have reproduction without those other things? I would think that it would have to involve processes that run along similar lines at the very least, or are the official definitions of those things much stricter than I'm thinking?
When I started, I was in the same scenario. American Parkour put out workouts of the day back then, not sure if they still do, but I think you can still access them on their website. I also followed @PKGWOD on Twitter... Maybe you can access those as well (pretty sure it's discontinued but still searchable on the web). Otherwise, watch a bunch of how-to videos on RUclips. Tapp Brothers have a lot of good stuff. There's so much out there. Start with a basic skill per day, and just go out and practice it.
Well if its a public place and your not bothing anyone its ok. But if your in a area that is really populated say a privite housing section, your going to get in trouble. But other wise do what you want, try looking at some other videos & see if you can get some ideas for places you want to train.
i know i hate when i am doing parkour at 1st ppl think i am jogging but as soon as i vault over something i hear sirens and boom i am getting hand cuffed out of no where and being blamed that i ran past a car that later its alarm went off so they have to blame the kid having fun and assume he was stilling. that is what happened to me last week but at least i dint get into any trouble. THANK GOD FOR ME HAVING MY MOMS IPHONE i showed him parkour videos i wish i could have shown him this one

"We live in the age of convenience"
Simply great! Such a simple sentence, still expressing so much about today society.
This comment aged exceedingly well

not only is the parkour incredible but the message is inspirational!! :)
Absolutely great !! Great idea, great words great realisation!!! Iwatch part 1 & 2, can't wait for the two others ! Keep it up to other challenges !

@Sabuncar Cheers :) It took us a while to put together, as we wanted to make sure it was right. I'm glad that so many people are finding it useful.
I started parkour at 25, so I'm sure you'll be fine!
I love that spot at 1:12!! I Really wish i could train there!

@Yumut0123 That's up to you. If you want to do it, then find some people who train in your area and make a start!
This is one of the most intelligently written things I have ever watched. Just wanted you to know that. Thanks for uploading.
@UrbanSomething Thanks. Danny actually does quite a lot to help people out, from what I'm told. Anyway, thanks for your comments :)

Thanks for the info :) What classification should I use instead?
Jesus, that black dude climbing out of the crevice in the rocks is brave man, I couldn't do that man. You guys have inspired me, I haven't got the body for parkour but I'm gonna try just to see how hard it is.
@jeff45x You should always consider how you'll get down BEFORE scaling a large obstacle. Plan ahead! ;)

+Doorstop1227 thank you very much for the information it helped me allot.

How tall is that wall that you guys managed to make it onto at around 3:23? About 12 and a half feet?
@Obsidian1138 Hi, Im 14 and i live in the UK do you think i should start doing this Sport(or whatever)??
@parkourazzy24 At which point in the video?
I was wondering where I could find your workouts that you do (you talked about them in "Nature of Challenge 1"). I've been to your website and registered, but I can't find the workouts. Please queue me in on it!
@EdwardSancheezy He's squeezing through a very narrow gap, from a small cave below.
at about 8 minutes it starts to get a bit anarchist, i like it!!!
what was the man attempting to do around 5:46 ? it looked different?
That literally changed my life.

Great ducumentary btw
@FCBacralonaRules I'm sure there is. Where do you live?
Keep being awesome.
@Arzenimus Ah, ok, I was just looking for a word to describe quanta of life. It does seem to be a difficult distinction. :)

There are no parkour groups near where I live so I'd have to learn all this by myself. Does anyone know any good ways to do so ?

It's one of the best things for working out- I used it loads in rugby.
Try to look around the net, look after .org addresses. You surely will find some more information about the relation of age and parkour =]
at 8:00 we didnt create them as a barrier, but just for parkour
Why is the guy under the rock in 5:41??
