As a Taiwanese who lived in Hawaii and considered Hawaii my 2nd hometown, it was great to see the acknowledgment of Taiwan here, and we truly are closer to the Polynesians than the Chinese! Taiwanese aboriginal cultures are no doubt part of the Austronesian culture (and most likely the origin of it as the host mentioned), and Taiwanese are islanders just like Hawaiians and all Polynesians. ❤ Aloha nui loa! ❤
As a cnmi delegate there, I can confirm it was a party in there, the live stream does not justify the large quantity of hype going on during the songs. Also thank you Hawaii for being an amazing host, we had a great time here, peace and love from the CNMI. CHEEEHOO
It was not a time and place to protest anything. Yes Hawai’i Hosted the event in Hawai’i as it was our turn. It was not about the Governor or his wife , it was not about Hawai’i being occupied with people, who just want to build more buildings on Hawai’i or overtaking anyone or anything. This event is about the gatherings of the pacific, bringing those along the Pacific Ocean together, to share and to celebrate culture and traditions. To be one as a pacific, to unite as a family. Such a beautiful site to see. Even through a major public event such as this there are still some who are only thinking of themselves.
@@melaniemilikini4279 Were you there there? I was watching online. I couldn’t hear what was being said. Was it a protest chant. I’m just curious because the MC had to be "Aunty" and ask for decorum. It was a brief scar on an otherwise great closing ceremony. The ending concert was especially great with Kapena and all the delegates dancing. So if anyone knows what was being said, who was saying it, please chime in.
@@ouz01jot no, I watched online too. It’s from what I seen through some videos on social media. During the governor and his wife’s speech. There were people rudely singing during her speech, also on the videos I seen 2 signs hung written by hand one is “Free Kanaky” the other is “De-Occupy Hawai’i”. One of the lives I seen from someone who was sitting in the American Samoa Deligation. As they were near The “Free Kanaky” Sign was ripped from where it was hung. By one of the people who was there and the security. On the Hawai’i news Now live when Governors wife started speaking you could hear singing and people you could see on the camera directed their attention to the top of the arena. Also she paused and looked at her husband in concern but her husband told her to keep going. As to why Aunty Sia had to say what she had to say. Addressing crowd as an aunty.
As a Polynesian living in Vancouver Canada, I could not help but wipe away soo many tears of joy, gratitude and pride as I followed along, with many others around the world, the beautiful ceremonies, arts and cultural activities throughout the 11 days of Festpac 2024. Thank you soo much Hawaii for being such beautiful hosts. And to all my ohana from all over the Pacific islands, thank you very much for sharing and showcasing your beautiful Cultures and Arts to the world. A big Mahalo to you all and much love from Canada❤❤
I was soooo invested in all of the festivities of #FestPAC and so thankful for all the LIVES!! To SEE and FEEL the love and best from all of our families across the VASA --- it's sooooo moving and sooo profound!!! Dr. Sala and Team -- what an INCREDIBLE accomplishment!! #AigaoleVasa Thank you so much Amerika Samoa delegation for all of the prep work and commitment to show the best of US (Manu'a + Tutuila)! Malo to the co-emcees -- spectacular!!
Thank you everyone for such a wonderful, organized and lively gathering of the beautiful peoples and their offerings of culture. We are proud people of the Pacific, however, I saw so many different ethnicities represented as participants and spectators. The hardwork by many volunteers showed and each one should be recognized by the international community for their efforts drew a large crowd and revived my heart. I do hope in my lifetime Hawaii could host this event one more time🎉. Kudos 🎉❤
Just wanted to thank you Hawaii News Now for covering the Festpac and posting live feeds. It was so great to experience up close and to be able to revisit some of my favorite performances online thanks to your coverage.
Shout out to Papa MAU! I like to think he was one of the pillars of our nesian resurgence. I remind my children always that you’re ancestors were wayfinders. They were(are) some of the badest people on the planet. Basically “astronauts” of the ancient world. I tell them “be courageous, be a WAYFINDER!” I truly am proud of who I am, tracing my family tree going back 13 generations.
Tbh we were watching the closing ceremony in our hotel room. As soon as they announced Kapena was playing, we got ready and rushed to the stadium lmfao. Amazing party!
This was so heartfelt and great from start to finish, my family and I were living through all the events via your LIVES, thank you for sharing. Back at it again in 4years yeh?? 😊🫶

What happened during the governor’s speech? It sounded like some kind of singing.

De-occupy Hawai’i.
If Hawaii wasn't occupied, FestPAC would've been held somewhere else. Cry more.
