Hi Catherine , this looks amazing definitely a comfort food .here in the uk we call it ‘ mince an mash ‘ because the meat is minced lol …I put garden peas and diced carrot in the mix too … also if you put the hamburger gravy into casserole dish top with the mash it’s called cottage pie .. add cheese on top of the mash for a little more luxury 💕
Another warm and cozy dish. I grew up on this too, my dad was in the Army. It's good that you drained the grease off the ground meat and added butter for more flavor in the gravy. Why are alot of people so against a peeler? A knife wastes too much of the actual potato flesh. I just don't understand this. I love my mother but she always used a knife and lost a great deal of the potato. We always argued about this because of my feelings of the potato waste. She's gone now and I guess she was entitled to her way of prep but I thought it was a waste of food. Joanne

I know this video is older but I had to tell you my grandmother would have had a fit watching you peel the potatoes. She peeled hers skins on potatoes paper thin. For me the knife looked bigger than what I would use. The gravy did look wonderful. Tell your husband we like a little sour cream mixed in mashed potatoes. 😊

We make a similar British dish - my husband is from England and we live in Canada. We call it minced stew. We put some finely chopped carrot and peas in with the beef. We use Bisto to help make the gravy.

It's the only time i eat white gravy. I stopped putting anything in mine about 15 years ago other then salt ,pepper and ground beef . The gravy yoou made is delicious. Thats the exact way i make mine for beef stroganoff. I alternate between putting it over rice and mashed potatoes .

Hmm I’m thinking of picking up some fresh mushrooms to sauté and add them to the heated up leftovers and making some hot buttered egg noodles. Simply pour over top of the noodles. Yum easy Peasy. Now I like that you use beef broth instead of milk like so many others use. This recipe looks like what I was served in school over a big scoop of mashed potatoes. That was my all-time favorite meal back then that I remember besides the pizza. Thank you I can't wait to try this. I made it for dinner tonight 6/17/24 and it was a spectacular recipe. Hi Catherine! This is a wonderful meal! I went to town today and plan to go back tomorrow. Our local Piggly Wiggly has potatoes on sale this week for $.88/ 3 pound bag. I bought 2 bags and want a couple more because anymore that is an excellent price and you just can't beat something warm and comforting this time of year (October). The nights are cold but it does warm up during the day. We're supposed to get rain and this is a perfect way to make you feel warm and cozy.
@@CatherinesPlates we've had even more rain. I'm going back to town tomorrow and get more of those potatoes before they aren't on sale anymore. I picked another 5 gallon bucket of apples today. They are so beautiful and I haven't even gotten up on a ladder nor do I think I need to. Abundance is certainly a blessing but at some point it also becomes a challenge. I've canned 42 pints of applesauce, 7 quarts of apple pie filling and 9 jars of apple butter. I'm branching out into baking now.

Looks delicious.. if you add sour cream to the gravy the next day (if any is left) it would make a quick stroganoff for noodles...
You could always double the recipe so you'd be sure to have leftover.
Oh yes, we actually had some leftovers which were perfect over egg noodles. The sour cream would have been delicious.
