Trey Anastasio played a song with Vulfpeck at Redrocks and when Theo took a solo he scatted along with it, then he scatted thirds above it. The look on Trey's face said it all.
I think...a lot of what makes this piece awesome...is that they keep it so simple (and the simple fact that they're all incredible players). The voice box adds a touch of flair...but the rest of the instruments (and vocals) are all really clean and tight. Very light...very pure...and super happening rhythm dancing throughout every moment. And Michael is right about the rhythm...they're all in on it...connecting and weaving and winding in and out and up and down and all around. They're all playing off each other to create a perfect whole. Killer track...as usual with Vulfpeck.
I'm so glad you reacted to this band that i love so much..;seriously, cannot stop listening to their funky magic!!! I love your expression while you listened to them... it's impossible to listen to their stuff without smiling and feeling goooooood!
Nice video! Vulpeck is mind blowing stuff. They are so tight and they play multiple instruments! It's crazy. I wonder if they practice a ton together or what they do
I never watch any "reaction" vids but this was great. love the live vulpeck performance BUT I also really enjoyed your playing as well. well done all fronts sir
As a pianist and composer, Vulfpeck are to me the best band to listen to and to watch, their talent is so profound it hurts my brain trying to figure out how they keep it so tight and flawless.
Enjoying your videos. These nerds are as talented as they get, but I’m also impressed by your ability to pick out and play their parts so quickly. If u haven’t done their Fearless Flyers offshoot, that’d be a good one.
Michael - I just discovered your channel! Really loving the analysis, as I've just gotten to the point in my guitar learning that I can follow it - would love to develop that ability to work out a tune in real time and plop melodies on top. Been working on guitar for Higher Ground, another funky SW hit. I'll be watching!
Struts, could have been me? Pretty simple but a couple of nifty chord changes in there that makes a signature song. Got some anthem in it also. Good tempo changes. Thanks for teaching a lot of us the Nashville number system...
loved it! try stevie wonder himself, lettuce, cory henry & the funk apostles, snarky puppy, bruno mars, justin timberlake, tom misch, james brown, john mayer, on & on but those are some great starting points
Great video, it was fun to hear your feedback on such a good cover! For next time, make sure to turn off your Mac notifications and try not to hold your hand up where you cast your screen, we can't see it ;)
You ever hear phish's version of Freebird? I actually got to see it live once. Completely a 4 part a capella to do an instrumental version. I think it was an encore at a SPAC show.. one of my favorite venues ive personally seen phish.. burgettstown ssd till no doubt my alltime fav show. All but the encore was perfection.
That was my first reaction when I started following these guys...'white guys from Minnesota?'.. By now I'm sure you must've seen the Fearless Flyers... Wong and Dart with a cross between Devo and the blues brothers funky schtick. Its great... BTW, I'm 62 so I don't know if you ever saw Devo from the 80s. Its the schtick, not the music.
Hey Michael, have you ever heard of 'Stuff'? Of course not! The group was essentially the 'who's who' of session musicians in the 70s R&B/funk/jazz including Steve Gadd and Eric Gale. Their Montreaux '76 set is legendary and features some monstrously tight lead and solo playing from various players. Here's one to get you started: ruclips.net/video/MkZ0iaQJaBo/видео.html
MIchael...great idea for a new series of videos. Please check out anything by Snarky Puppy. Scary scary good as I am sure you know.Talk about being funky and locked into a groove with seamless integration across the various members of the collective. Also, how can you tease us with a sighting of the new PRS SE Hollowbody guitar without a mention of it. Some thoughts on that bad boy please in an upcoming video.
@@Guitargate Michael...loved your reaction video to Snarky Puppy's Lingus! I sure hope you do more. These guys are musicians of the highest order. They groove, they mesh so well, they have amazing soloists on whichever instrument you want, and you just have to wear stank face whenever you listen to them. I hope you do more. Lingus is super hard to analyze there is so much going on. If you want one that might be easier to get your arms around in terms of the key, the chords being played etc...but that is still super soulful and groovy, you need to check out "Something" featuring Lalah Hathaway (Donny Hathaway's daughter) on guest vocals. She does this polyphonic thing with her voice 2/3 of the way into the song that kills and the members of the band just flip out when she does it. It's a real catchy vibe and she's an amazing singer and the band is tight tight tight. Even if you don't do a video on it, I hope you check it out and enjoy it. Keep up the great work.
oh hey! you should check out a folk band called little tybee if you're looking for bands to react to. some really great guitarists in there :) their song "languid" especially has a whole lot in it
Him: "I think it's Cory Wong."
Narrator: "He knew it was Cory Wong."
Hahahaha

This video should be titled How Everybody Reacts to Vulfpeck
They continuously put out good music. Most bands are lucky to have 2-3 good albums. They haven’t released a bad one yet.

Top version of an amazing song. Thanks for uploading your understanding of this song. I love the arpeggios at the end of the track. Just brilliant.
My man you're feelin it! These guys are so so good live. Theo is good live. Such incredible musicians.
Really enjoyed watching you work out the progression
Thanks! I'm going to try and do more of these
Great video Michael and well done working it out so easily. :-)
All were hanging around University of Michigan, Cory is from MN
the bass player and singer do a live 2 man version of this tune .... killer.
Yes! The one in Belgium! That's my favorite version.
This version is better though. Theo completes this
Vulf is at their peak with Antuan
Antuan stwanley
Joey Dosik
They’re from all over. Theo is from Long Island. They met at music school at UM and live in LA now.
I liked the picture that he painted saying that they were initially a group of Jewish guys from Minnesota with their short shorts lol
You should review something from their live show at MSG from December 2019!
Nice video! Vulpeck is mind blowing stuff. They are so tight and they play multiple instruments! It's crazy. I wonder if they practice a ton together or what they do
The look on your face was priceless at the end. I laughed so hard bc that's what I hear with Zappa. it's so heady, only 1 out of like 1M get it!!!!
Hi I have the same reaction has you,, Vulfpeck are the bomb!! FUNKY!!! talented, well rehearsed flawless execution. We love them over here in the UK!"

Hi Michael, Like your stuff so much, thanks from Holland.
Cory Wong's right hand never stops moving.

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, "Danko/Manuel" from Austin City Limits would be a great song to do.
You nailed it, subbed just because of this!
Michael, your face as you listen! That's me when I first heard this! Subscribed.
I’m happy I’m not the only one that hears it.
Fantastic! I would love for you to react to some more Vulfpeck stuff at some point.

I love what you doing brother is making me a better guitar player
Joe Dart is bass GOD!
You have to do one of these on The Band ‘Umphreys Mcgee’ the song “Mrs Tinkle’s Overture”
Complex eye opener, I enjoyed this and thanks!
To have never heard this it's amazing how he knew to stop the song on the split second ending.
Nice one. You have a great ear. Maybe a Steely Dan track would be fun?
Kid Charlemagne!

This shit would bring the house down anywhere!
That’s was just insane, thanks for turning me on to those guys
Best one yet man!
Maybe look into some Umphrey's McGee (All in Time or 1348) or some Keller Williams (Freaker by the Speaker or Cadillac).
Theo Katzman and the Four Fine Gentleman live in Berlin Germany!!!!!
Loved the vid! Keep at it
do more Corey and Theo solo projects, Scary pockets too!
"No seriously, what are we even listening to?!" appropriate reaction

Joe Dart is a badass on the bass!
great guitar tone,
very adequate but still amazing
At 11:10 he just decides to throw the guitar down and pick up the flute. LOL!

What band are you most impressed with after doing these reviews?
If you dig Vulf, please review some Lettuce.
I think it is important to mention that the song is originally from Stevie Wonder.
Yes, this guy is actually dissecting a Stevie song but doesn't mention it.
He mentioned it's a Stevie wonder cover in the beginning
まあ, すべてのパーツが素晴らしいです
Do Josie by Steely Dan please. Or anything by the Dan :)
How about some Robin Trower. Day of the Eagle, please
