    I know Crown Royal mixes well from my bartending experience but when I'm alone, I prefer it neat. I battled it against all of my favorite whiskeys and it came out tasting better and being more rewarding than the competition.

    I always come back to Crown. No matter how far down the whiskey trail I venture. It really is like the old friend. You know you’re gonna have a good time and it’s easy to chill with. Price ain’t bad either at least here in Northern California at $21 for a 750ml.

    I've drunk the best whiskies in the world and this is just completely unique to me. So I'll be blasphemous and say I like it. However, it's totally different than we whiskey drinkers are used to. Smooth, vanilla and just overall pleasant. No apologies, very well done.. but... ah.. there is the but....
    Not the flavor beast bursting with flavor the single malt gents are looking for... but for me... on "some" days, I just want something simple and delicious.... this fits the bill

    Crown Royal was the first Whiskey I ever tried (underaged at that). Now that I'm legally able to drink in my Province, Crown is my go to. I typically drink it watered down a tad though, over some ice. Yeah, it may dim the flavour, but that's how I like it.

    I've drunk Canadian Crown Royal in Canada with people who live there and we also had 2 other kinds of mineral spirits to celebrate with on a cold night in Victoria. It might not be the best Whisky, but it become one that I kept coming back to because I guess I enjoy the vanilla/maple blended characteristics more than some straight Kentucky bourbons. I've compared it to Irish Tullamore Dew, Jack Daniels, Johnny Walker Black Label, Fireball Cinnamon Whisky, Jim Bean, Kentucky Jack, Wild Turkey and probably a dozen more at a similar price range. I've consumed a ton of vodka, whiskey and cognac as they're my personal favorites.

    I was wondering, by Irish/Scottish standards could Crown Royal be considered a single grain whiskey? I know it’s marketed as a blended whiskey, but because all of the whiskeys in the blend come from one distillery could it still be technically considered a single grain?

    • @CraftWhiskeyBoys
      @CraftWhiskeyBoys  4 года назад +3

      Correct! Crown royal is made from various cereal grains all produced in one distillery, therefore could technically be classed as single grain - Sol

    Its my number one go to Scotch. I always have a bottle in the house. You guys have your, shall I say, professional opinions and I have mine. I dont drink anything neat, I am an ICE man. I grab a fist sized tumbler and then fill the glass with those small little half inch square ice cubes. Open the Bottle and pour man, till its full. After the first couple sips, my pallete is conditioned and the rest is Liquid Gold Baby. Oh, and I like the little bit of ethanol coming up the throat and out my nasal. You guys hit it pretty much on the spot.

  • @larryhammond5907

    I get that you guys are high-end whiskey guys, so it's great that you even tried CR on your channel. But CR isn't meant for the high-end connoisseur, it's for the masses. For your average Canadian, you'll have 2 bottles of whiskey at home. Maybe 3. You'll have Canadian Club (CC) which you'll mix with Canada Dry ginger ale, and that will be your go-to. On special occasions, you'll get out the CR and have that on the rocks. You may keep some JD around in case your American friends or family come over, or if your daughter brings home a loser boyfriend and you don't want to waste the good stuff on him.
    Was on a luxury cruise in fall 2022, and the ONLY rye they had was CC, so CR. Although I did find a specialty bar that had some premium rye, no CR. On previous cruises, CR was available as a mid-level option, but no top-shelf ryes available. The point I'm making is that CR is the special occasion Canadian Whiskey for normal people,, including big luxury cruise ships.

One overall against everything of its kind and another based against everything in its price range. For the price you pay there’s not a lot out there that’s better.

      From a Canadian....3/10. I have had fantastic drams from Ireland, Scotland, Japan and the US but my own country has trouble making something fantastic at an affordable price. Part of it is our lax laws on what defines a whisky (I.e. you can make a rye with only 10% rye in it) and part of it is who the hell knows.....now where is that Four Roses SB or Redbreast 12 or Nikka From the Barrel.......or Highland Park 12?

But even for me as a beginner it's nothing special. It has no negatives notes or aromas, it's just... boring. It's stuff I'd put in cookies, some cocktails or a hot toddy..
