I believe with the world wide crisis we are facing now, we require a world wide solution. And this is why I believe we need decentralized devices such as this Reactor. Think about it, even if there is just 1 reactor in every community, that will put a huge dent in plastic waste and pollution.
Due to this, I do not wish to make a singular specialized Reactor, once I master and complete this one, I want to make all different types, of all different scales and sizes.

checked online, and yes, i was pleasantly surprised to find out you CAN turn plastic into fuel with literally every process this man here is doing. for this reason, i am now donating. "it 'ain't much, but it's going to some honest work."
With no one insuring he’s not releasing dangerous fumes & chemicals into the environment. He clearly has symptoms already.
@theleviathancross3919 actually no. What he's producing would never be used as fuel to burn. It's comically wasteful anyway for someone trying to clean up the planet to just burn his product out of convenience. It's far too toxic to ever be used by someone like you that's just finding out about this. It's a very old process that scientists have concluded is never going to be economically viable anyway. But let's just ignore all that, still the only thing he could do with his product is sell it to plastics manufacturers to be reused. But that kinda defeats the purpose and like I said I can promise you now he will not be able to produce it cheaper than crude oil is extracted. So even if there is govt intervention, maybe carbon taxes on all crude EXCEPT crude made from plastic to make it cheaper to use that?? Idk basically what all of yall are dreaming of is beyond impossible. You will never ever be able to substitute this shit for gasoline and even if you could it would cost at least 2-4x what gasoline is rn. Try $15/gal or much much more.
I think this is a cool project but it really rubs me the wrong way that he's taking advantage of people like you having a lack of knowledge and giving you completely false hope. I think it's a great project, but all these people should know they're donating just to explore the science or fund his hobby. This will never benefit you personally

@@chelsea_1961 plastic is made from oil - he is not dumping his waste in water systems, like big oil, and is doing everything he can to protect the environment around his creation from a spill. he is working to remove debris from the world and ANYONE thinking this way will also find a way to ensure using all the waste. HE ALREADY puts everything through a few processes to reduce emission and use all waste and then USING the WASTE of prior runs to fuel coming runs.

It's not economical, ie use you more energy than you get in fuel and also directly release poisonous fumes into the atmosphere which is more harmful than the plastic being in the ground

This is sometimes referred to as catalytic depolymerization. There was a German company doing this on a much larger scale about 20 years ago, but it's not feasible economically.

Dude BVV really LOVES you man that 40ft double coil is SUCH a great idea!! I especially like the straight "air condenser" coming out of the reactor body at a steep angle to catch all the high boiling vapour without being trapped in the actual condensers. The fact that you set up the condensers vertical AFTER the collection tank was definitely the move 👌 that way any low boiling shit gets caught after so youre not plugging up the sight glasses anymore.

@@scamchan It's a proof of concept, R&D takes time, one man doesn't have the resources of "big energy" who can throw big money, big equipment, and big numbers of people at a research project. The amount of energy spent vs the energy returned is irrelevant at this very early stage, that can always be refined and optimized later on as the process is improved. As you scale up and boot strap the process, it takes several stages before becoming self hosted.

Tires are a big one that's used in pyrolysis too! I'd be interested in seeing that. There are whole landfills of tires and they're pretty homogenous

I have been very intrigued by this system you have going. I think that it is amazing and could have a massive part in recycling and cleaning up this planet of plastics. This is amazing!!🤩 This was only theory in 1995 when I was in college! We had a group project that was our final. There were 4 groups.
The topic was solving the explosion of population growth due to the exodus from California policies. The stipulations were that it also solved, or contribute in solving an environmental problem.
One group focused on using🌽 as a substitute for petroleum. Our group focused on using plastic waste, compacted into pellets to fuel boilers to produce heat and electricity for large structures/buildings. Which would take tremendous stress off the grid. But, the possibilities of plastic waste being a replacement for petroleum or coal is small.
Diversifying with a variety of fuel and energy sources is key! It will ensure, not only preserve or slow down the depletion of fossil fuels. It will preserve multiple fuel and energy sources. And the research to increase those sources for centuries to come.
It will also ensure geographical expansion, for population growth, into otherwise uninhabitable environments that the current energy grid cannot support.

If you bothered to watch to watch, he refined it and made it cleaner. It's not perfect and the gas may be toxic but it's no different from other gas at the station, except that it cleans up all the harmful plastic sitting around our environments.

What he not telling us is costs more in natural gas then you get out in gasoline.
@naturejab I came over from Mass Spec Everything's channel, where he found from the samples you sent him, you're primarily making Styrene, Benzene, & Toluene.
So you ABSOLUTELY ARE producing VOCs or hydrocarbons from Pyrolysis of plastics! And your automation, sensors, and industrial process control stuff is impressive!
But, since you are making Styrene, Benzene, & Toluene, flammable hydrocarbons that will turn over an internal combustion engine, they're still not actually gasoline or diesel.
And, the "you'll get cancer!" Commenters, well... they're not exactly "wrong." There's nothing in the simple end of the Benzene carbon-ring hexagon family thats "good" for people.
But, you're outdoors, an open air shelter, etc. So hopefully it's been okay so far. But please look up the actual precautions, exposure limits, & safety measures for those three compounds!
But hey, even if its not actually "gasoline" or "diesel" making raw Styrene, Benzene, & Toluene from plastics is still probably really important! Industry & science use these constantly. Recycling it instead putting the plastics in landfills and just making more from fossil petroleum would still be wonderful!
Also, instead of the vacuum process, have you investigated a high pressure/steam process? Because I recall the "big breakthrough" in Pyrolysis or Thermal Depolymerization back in the early 1990's was actually USING the water to help the reactions along, instead of trying to bake everything to a nearly Anhydrous state first.
I haven't watched all your videos, but I assume you're using 2.4gHz food/kitchen microwave magnetrons. Which makes sense, as you probably want to be using 110VAC and not any high industrial power, like 240V or 440 three-phase.
But, if you are using the commercial microwave magnetrons, the very high frequency RF is going to work on water best. And in your reactor its probably only heating the water, and then the plastics only indirectly by whatever random molecular bonds laying around in the reaction vessel that "dance" for 2.4gHz too.
So, if its a pressure vessel process instead of a vacuum one, and keeping the H20 "in" might help with the Pyrolysis, the water vapor & steam would make the magnetron heating far more efficient.
And, the steam could be released later on, and just drive itself out, drying the reaction products somewhat "for free." The Benzene boils at 176°F well below water, but... maybe the "steam pressure baking" might not have Benzene in the mix. The Styrene & Toluene both have boiling points way above 212°F/100°C...
I honestly have no clue, but maybe a pressurized steam process won't make Styrene & Toluene either... 🤔 Maybe you'll get a mix of hydrocarbon chains with a more Gasoline or Deisel-like spread.
I mean, the fossil oil & coal in the ground was made with heat & pressure too. Not heat & vacuum.

i think the pump didnt die but it crapped itself because of all of the air - it clearly is a pump which does not like air at all. He is gonna have to come up with a method of compressing the crude inside of the barrel ... or maybe mix it with water so that even small amounts can be pumped - water does not bond with oil, they can be seperated mechanically. Also : he needs a level shutoff for the pump.
Either that or a collapsible barrel that remains under vacuum and fills free of air... I wonder how it'd work.
