    That's a shame. The old scout was a really useful car and looked good too.

  • @mrgreatauk
    @mrgreatauk Год назад +2

    A shame it's not kept a more rugged and practical character... I think the old model had 30mm more ground clearance than the regular octavia which still isn't loads, but enough to make a bit of a difference. 15mm on this new one couples with a silly bumper is a bit of a joke. I'm considering getting a 2nd hand raised 4wd estate so may buy a second hand older model. If buying new I would probably end up buying an SUV as the options just aren't great these days.

  • @markandrewsmith9313
    @markandrewsmith9313 Год назад +2

    I am surprised Skoda are now offering a front wheel only variant. It sort of spoils the Scout name. I have an early Scout, and that has 178mm of ground clearance as I do use mine off road. Also, I prefer the earlier Haldex system both on and off road. In my opinion, I think the later cars are a disappointment especially when the computer limits your acceleration torque, which is important when towing. I tow a transporter trailer with rally car, and a camp trailer, (not both at the same time). I think I will stick with my older model Scout because a raised estate with the 4x4 and ground clearance is important to me and it returns better MPG than a Subaru.

    I own an Audi A4 Avant with a 6 cylinder and I love it but when I drive it after a snow, especially when we go up north on the dirt roads to cottages the bottom drags through the snow. I like the A4 Allroad but it means buying new, and it's kind of a premium over the Q5. I wish I could find one a year or 2 old. As for this Skoda? Meh. It's kind of the same as a VW but is it that much cheaper to make it worth buying over the VW?

    • @MarekDrives

      So Skoda usually makes slightly bigger cars than their VW counterparts, so this may be a Golf competitor, but in terms of size it's between the Golf and the Passat, making it a more compelling proposition to many. Scout business aside.

    I preferred to buy a "raised estate" and really liked the Octavia 3 Facelift Scout and the Superb 3 Facelift Scout. Still, their price was the same as Mitsubishi Outlander III, which had more options and 19 cm ground clearance, compared to the 17 cm of the scouts. So I checked the Kodiaq, and its price was almost 5k euro more than the Outlander for the Edition or Scout trims. Not to mention the interest on the Skoda's was above 2.4%, while the Mitsubishi had a fixed rate of 1.59%. I mean... who would pick a raised estate when the SUV is the same money, and it offers more? I hated SUVs until... well, they left me no choice but to buy one because I need a lot of cargo area, 7 seats, and like to visit mountains with dirt roads.

    Just ordered today. There is no sensible choice and actually I was gliding between absolutely shitty Duster which is offering return to middle 90's and astromically expensive German brands and Volvo. There was also test drive of new Suzuki SX4 but due to cheap interior with unacceptable noise level,we decided to leave over 40k€ for this 4x4 estate in nearest Skoda dealership. Hopefully well spend money and great opportunity to "say goodbye" for Opel insignia which was an absolute mistake

    I think that these 4x4 wagons are all normal man (or family?) can ask for. Best allrounders out there. Majority of people doesn't need 4x4 anyway. It is better looking, it has bigger booth and lower consumption while having better handling comparing to SUVs. It is sad that they are quite pricey. SUVs? Ok, why not, once i got problems with my back. Luckily, i am not there yet, until then, "normal" cars all the way.
    On the other hand i have to admit that E-class is ugly AF :|

I bought it new with many extras (€9,000 worth), so I have many extra comforts and safety features not normally standard on other Scouts. 232,000 kms over the last 8 years have been totally problem free, and the occasional light offroad experiences were also enjoyable. nice review but it is a bit off. Seems you have some personal grudge against 2021 Octavia Scout lol. This car looks nice, way better than the previous generations. In fact this is the peak design for Octavia overall. And nobody gives a damn about 4x4 off-roading in an estate. You buy an SUV for that. People buy Octavia Scout because it looks better than a regular 2021 Octavia Estate.

  • @schakalix

    I have a 2011 Octavia 2 Scout. So far very little complaints with the car, the raised height got me off a few tricky situations unscathed so far. It's not a true off road vehicle, but for bad roads in Romania and snow etc. it's perfect. Sad to see the new model doesn't live up to the old one.
    Thank you for your honest and unbiased review, I've been watching other more "mainstream" reviews and they are nothing but praise, disappointing.

    I just moved back to the US after selling my Volvo V70 overseas. I was going to buy a Tiguan because I thought that is what my wife wants. She then informed me how stupid she thinks CUVS are and asked if we can get a wagon!? Well used cars are crazy expensive so we ended up with a 2022 Subaru Outback XT (2.4 turbo with 260 hp) and we are so happy. 😁 that being said the Outback is just as tall as the Tiguan and has more ground clearance than most suvs. The downside is that it’s thirsty but gas is much cheaper than when we lived in Germany so I will deal with it to save the wagons!

    A wagon/estate, with a raised ground clearance, and AWD, is really such a rare species. SUV are highly overrated. When it comes to practicality, looks to me SUV still loses out to wagon/estate in term of space, and practicality, especially the boot space of a wagon/estate vehicles. Also SUV are much higher in the ground, making it more prone to body roll and it is still not as stable and comfortable as a sedan/wagon.

  • @wisecountryman49

    The station wagon will survive only in this crossover form and with 4 wheel drive. A wagon is an honest car that doesn't pretend to be anything else that it is. A family car with added capabilities.
    The perfect example is the Subaru Outback in the US. Americans simply hate wagons and few only exist on the market, but the Outback sells like crazy. And no, the Outback is not an SUV, it's a wagon. So there! That will be the future for any wagon in Europe.

    Lol good review with a healthy amount of sarcasm😁
    I own a 2015 manual Scout and I have no (not much) complaint! The car looks good in my opinion and it looks better than the newest one, you get decent fuel economy for a 2.0 diesel, you got plenty room, it's not bad with its performance and it's pretty good handling! However, I have rust,on a 7yrs old car, Skoda doesn't care as it didn't have the prescribed body inspection so the warranty isn't valid... Apart from that I'm happy with it! It also has more ground clearance than this and the Haldex system is pretty good when you need it. I'd not buy the new scout though, even if it was available in the UK!

    We have a company car - one of the first ones of the manufacturing line.
    Besides alll of the issues it has - the most problems we have is with the running gear. The suspension is so underdampened and undersprung it is dangerous to drive. The stability and driving program is not setup correctly for this car and the practicality of it... sry - but it is just sad. And Yes - the old scout was OK car. In comparison to this mode - the old scout was a goood car.

    I've been a fan of the segment ever since the original Volvo Crosscountry when I was a kid in the 90's. I now drive a Passat Alltrack and had an Insignia Country Tourer before that.
    The V90 CC is the obvious choice in the segment, until you ask my bank account anyway.
