I served onboard the U.S.S. Thomas C. Hart (FF-1092) From 1981 to 1984 as a Sonar Technician. The Hart is four hulls before the U.S.S. Valdez used in this tutorial and I've noticed the following differences: 1.) Knox-class ships had the AN/SLQ-25 "Nixie" towed noisemaker decoy, not one that could be launched like a chaff unit. 2.) While I was onboard, our ship went into the yards and received the AN/SQR-18A "TACTAS" sonar mentioned in your ship data sheet. Any scenarios after the early 80's should include a TACTAS on any Knox-class frigates in the scenario. 3. The only anti-air/anti-missile defenses our ship had were chaff and our 5'-54 caliber gun. We did not have BPDMS (the RIM-7 launcher) or the CIWS found on some Knox-class hulls. (It was embarrassing to pull into Djibouti for fuel and see a couple of Djiboutian Knox-class ships they purchased on the next pier-over with CIWS on the stern while we had... a capstan on the stern)
Good explanations, really worth to watch those tutorials, otherwise you stress yourself a lot :), for a s former Navy member and CIC Operator, this is it, a modernized Harpoon, for me a zero day purchase, it looks really promising, please keep up and development and drive that game
One other thing I have not seen in any other Naval Warfare sim is the ability to launch a missile like the Harpoon for example and instruct it to run quiet and only activate its seeker at a specific point. I saw an officer use this ability with great effect in a scenario. He had a sneaking suspicion where the enemy was so he launched a Harpoon on a bearing only launch with instructions not to activate its seeker until it was 55 miles away. It hit the 55 mile mark and turns on its seeker and the officer playing the Opfor suddenly see's this Harpoon in the immediate vicinity, he activates all his radars and ECM and LOUDLY announces his presence to the enemy. The Officer who had fired the Harpoon was than able to execute a saturation attack against the enemy while still being undetected. All his weapons flew towards the enemy silent and activated their seeker heads at a minimal distance and he smashed the enemy surface action group. He was a brilliant tactician and smoked anyone who opposed him in Navtag.
Just played my first mission, the one where you hunt 2 Russian subs. It was a lot of fun! A great balance between realism and gameplay - it feels real enough but you can get into it without all the in-depth technical knowledge. The great 3D graphics is also MUCH MUCH appreciated, as we all know we're here for some cool explosions and to see how rockets launch :)
Bought this a few minutes ago and loading it up now. Congrats on hitting early access and best of luck with your future updates. I was either going to buy the new Farming Simulator today, or something else, and the less then positive reviews for Farm Sim led me to a different item on my wish list entirely.
Hey Triassic, it would be _very helpful_ if you guys could make a playlist on your channel of all these videos in order. Edit: Nevermind, i just made it myself and listed it publicly. For anyone else who's looking for a playlist of the tutorials in order but doesn't wanna leave the game running in the background: ruclips.net/p/PLxnA9OPG_kiB2P2x7TDh2Vt__hFUcpGmu
When i have seen you posting this video i had no idea it would be the video/tutorial that you have when you are in the game, wow, nice job buddy, you are going to become one guide for the generation of people that are going to play this amazing game in the future decades to come. I had watched many videos about this game so i stupidly thought that i would be able to play the game immediately the day i will get to finally do it. Guess what, i was completely wrong lol. The first time i started a mission i felt immediately so completely lost by the sheer complexity of all the game has to offer. I am not criticizing it, it's the opposite, they really worked hard to create something that people who love this kind of gaming will absolutely adore, so much detail everywhere, it's very overwhelming on every possible aspect. The gaming industry should take note, once again, that really passionate gamers can create amazing games, way way better than anything a 'high exec that have never played a game in his live" could ever think of. Gaming should become again an industry with only passionate people at the bar, not MBT that doesn't care about the product they deliver but only about the money they can steal from the hands of theirs customers.
**Absolutely an amazing game and worth every penny**, tried to talk so many of my friends into buying it as well on my Discord Server, but many of them just would not purchase the title even though they loved the trailer.....loved the graphics, etc. Their reason for not picking it up? No Multiplayer. Lucky for me I'm over 60 and an old board gamer at heart so I can easily play solo games. But so many potential lost sales over no multiplayer feature.
What I enjoyed about Cold Waters was the hands on tutorial it gave you. Sea Power does not, I hope it comes soon for players like myself who struggle with these sort of games. Very cool game though I love watching the videos on Sea Power
Couple of things, The RUclips link from the game is broken, so I pasted direct, also if you try and watch these in game there's no way to stop the background music paying which is a bit annoying. Really looking forwards to getting stuck into this!
Can I make a suggestion and I am sure you have thought of it already but for each unit give us the ability to turn range circles for both sensor ranges and weapon ranges on and off. If I turn on my surface search radar range circle, it appears on the map and is labeled with whatever sensor or weapon it is associated with. That is a huge quality of life thing vs having to manually draw range circles. When I was in the Navy, I was briefly stationed at Destroyer Squadron 2. One of my jobs was to run the Wargaming computer system called NavTag. I would set up the scenarios and run the sim as the Officers "Commanded" their ships. If only it had a graphical component like this game lol.
Funny story, I was on a Oliver Hazard Perry Frigate, the USS Vandegrift FFG-48. I had a Nikon camera that had a computer chip in it to control various functions of the camera. If I got too close to the SLQ-32 ECM suite it would trigger the film rewind function of the camera. I lost three or four rolls of brand new film before I figured out what was causing it.
bought this last night GUI REQUEST: please improve instead of ship data presented as text in two rows along the bottom (non intuitive) perhaps we could get a top-down graphical representation (more intuitive) ie: the basic shape of a ship CRS SPD HDG etc displayed graphically and weapons quantity presented in roughly the position they are found on the ship pretty please : )
aircraft are not parked and waiting in the hangar deck, waiting for a mission - they are usually "parked" on the flight deck they are sent down below for maintenance as required they're usually "pulled forward" after a cycle and are mostly parked on the bow consult an ABM or or handler or an aircraft handling officer
It worries me that I didn't see flares as countermeasures on the F-14 toward the end of the video. Thought all modern'ish military aircraft had both??? No?
@They’re SO detail-oriented I would hope not. This video is from an earlier build, but that would be a surprising oversight. The animation looked more like flares than chaff, but this isn’t DCS, so it’s good enough.
Same is oversimplified to maximum. Just click weapon and click target. Defending is automated (so pray to your rnd god). I've fired surface to surface missile and it hit island in between. Srly? You can't set height for missiles (nor depth for torpedoes), you can't set search patterns, can't set arming distance, can't set anything! Also you constantly need encyclopedia to look up missle types or ranges. This is not a game, this a standalone mod. Why play game if you can voyeur some nice 3d models?
yess. i've bought it because i've been holding off from buying cold waters for a year or two, waiting for sea of power. otherwise i wouldn't pay the price they're charging in my region
I got it this morning, I am so excited. I am a old Navy vet and I served as a gunners mate on the USS Iowa in 16 inch turret 1 in 1989.
have a great navy day shipmate! : )
Do you have hearing left?

you my good sir are the hero we didn't know we needed.
Game just released, very excited
I haven't had this much fun playing a videogame in so long.

Please add time stamps in all of your videos to help us get to what we're looking for.
i watched every stealth sea power video before the release, i was pleasantly surpised to see his tutorial in the game
Is it possible to.move all these windows to a second monitor? That would be handy!

Optical sensor: "you either see something or you not" 11/10 :D
Solid!
Top KEK!
Peace be with you.

Are those tutorial videos unlisted? Can't find others and I'm not at my computer now.
Was hoping to see more about plotting courses, but I'll assume that is something for a later tutorial.

I second this. Otherwise we need to draw it manually after checking the unit reference, which doesn't add much to the gameplay.

@@Bellthorian -- was vandegrift east coast? I think I rode her in the summer of 94 from Newport RI as part of officer training

Let's GOOOO BOIS
Heh, I couldn't watch these in the menu. Clicking the RUclips hyperlink adds something in front so you have to manually edit the URL to get the video.
Can you take these tutorials off private?
Great game lads. Lets goooO!

Theres no way they forgot flares.....I hope

F-14 definitely has both flares and chaff, if it doesn't in game it must be an oversight.
like!
Just bought the game. Very confused on what to do lol
I bought. I am a civilian.

Right? I was anticipating like ~25-35 USD, not $50.
