Yes. He missed work where he was getting paid for doing a job for essentially a stranger. Not paying is actually illegal. It's indentured servitude

YTA. He is your boyfriend so they are just your bf's children. And i dont think hospital let so many ppl in the hospital nowdays? mom should stay to take care your bf's children while bf went to hospital with the injured kid. And your son had to skip work, hence losing income. Bf should pay him

Yes. The son missed a day of work where he was supposed to be payed so he could watch your boyfriends kids. Babysitting is difficult and even though it was an emergency I think one of the parents (mom) should've been at home Instead if they didn't want to pay for her son to babysit

It really depends. In an emergency situation he should watch them without expectation for compensation. Especially if he doesn't normally help with the kids. But... He did call of work too. Which may seem trivial for a teenager to call off work. It does affect his employment to call off. Now if he is sick or needs a day off for a school function he may not be able to take off without risking his job. Furthermore if he is paying for his own bills he is affected there as well. Is he paying for a vehicle such as car payments insurance or gas. If he has limited hours due to being in school taking one shift off may be a huge deficit for him. He may need to be compensated to help him pay for services that he normally pays for.
If he weren't working if would have been a straight NTA but with him calling out from a job it is costing him in several ways so not compensating him may make you guys the jerks.

calling off work is not a good look for him- to many of those could get him fired. It’s admirable that he’s working. When you ask him to give up work, it also communicates that you don’t care about his responsibilities. Your kids are not his kids. They aren’t his direct responsibility. Especially If he already has work scheduled you should find an outside babysitter, or one of you should stay home. It will just build more resentment towards this new family you’ve brought into his life. It might have gone over better if he mentioned the payment situation before you guys returned from the hospital, but I don’t think you guys should have asked him to stay home in the first place if he had work.

He shouldn’t punish your son though ! He had 2 years to build trust with him and he didn’t, and when his bio kids are sick he demands that your child stop working to watch his other bio kids … Sorry but no, that’s toxic, demanding/forcing on a child is selfish… don’t forget your son is still a kid and that you are his mother and only protector and you should stand for him. Your household environment is not doing well for him … You will see, once he can leave the house he will … instead of planning to go to college and adulting, he will focus on getting a small job, a small place and being far away from this toxic environment…. Then it will be too late for the rest of your lives to build up trust and true love.
