Agreed. Although it would've been better if they got rid of that narration because in my opinion the movie didn't need it. The facial expressions of the horse explained enough already.
Actually, they say Katzenberg had swiped a few ideas off of Disney's desk when he left--One being the serious Aztec movie that eventually became Emperor's New Groove (and Road to El Dorado), and another being the serious cattle-POV western that eventually became Home on the Range (and horses).
@@Nexils There is actually a version (the one I watched as a child) where there is no narration. I only found out there is this version a few years ago :)
I love it too. The songs are not only memorable but they do a pretty good job of conveying the themes and emotions through Spirit's perspective. The only minor issue I have is with the spacing of the songs in the movie but that doesn't take away from my enjoyment of both the songs and the movie itself.
It made me pissed off at the people that took him, I was so ready to FIGHT those people on Spirit's and Rain's behalf. I remember clenching my teeth when I first watched that scene unfold, I was so so mad. actually, I wanted to FIGHT them when they first took him too. How could they just think any creature they see belongs to them simply because they said so. I wanted to FIGHT them when they were chasing him, when they were being horrible to Little Creek, ESPECIALLY when they destroyed that village, basically the whole entire film.
You got to watch this in theaters? Lucky! This was my first DreamWorks movie and we watched it at my cousin's house. My siblings and I were obsessed with it so we got it on VHS and watched it A LOT and then we would play out the scenes in the movie and pretend to be the characters
Oh! Matt Damon is the narrator for this film, he basically voices Spirit. Although the horses don't talk, you can understand what they're "saying" very easily.
That's what makes this movie special to me. I'm a sucker for visual storytelling in animation and the decision to have the horses emote rather than speak was a stroke of genius, imo.
Spirit actually was one of the first to have the "Camera" spin around a 2D animation. This movie was a blend of 3D models and 2D animation. The behind the scenes are GREAT to watch. The score is made by Hans Zimmer, same composer as in The Prince of Egypt. He is one of the best at making scores that tell the story of the movie. Hans Zimmer partnered with Bryan Adams, who sang wrote the songs while Zimmer wrote the Score (instrumental pieces). The amazing part is how accurate the animations for the horses are. Horse are one of the HARDEST animals to animate due to each leg moving differently. The animators had to take some equine biology and skeletal and muscle lessons in order to properly animate horses. Most movies or tv shows before hadn't accurately portrayed horses in animation before so Dreamsworks wanted to put in the effort to be the first. (I think) Then some key facts are baby horses are called foals. If the foal is female, it is a filly, and if a male, its called a colt. Spurs were and are used in the Equine community and are highly debated on. Personally, I don't think you need to use spurs, but how the Colonel is not using them how they are suppose to be used for. He dug them in too much, when they are suppose to be used extremely caution. This movie is one that pulls the heart strings. Rain got shot by Colonel and you can actually see the bullet hole. :( Though this movie doesn't portray horses social structure, it does so how horses have deep ties to each other. They form family units. As horrible as it is that the horse had to pull up the train... that was the only way to move such a heavy object like a train. They could have used more horses to distribute the weight, but this was all to get you to sympathize with Spirit. Even though Man is the main bad guy in this movie, man is also a friend. This movie is also a story of change. The whole reason why Spirit had eyebrows was to help show emotion. This movie was MY childhood. It is the reason why I love horses so much and hope to get my own mustang some day.
@@erikperhs_ i was actually talking about his love interest, but i think about it and both are kinda attractive... Btw i also had a crush on both in my childhood
My school took us to see this in theaters. The football team was bummed out that we were seeing "that gay ass horse movie". They all left the theater crying. Very powerful film.
Oh, man, as a horse nerd I could talk about this movie for hours. Fun fact: the horse noises in this movie were all recorded from real horses, as opposed to being made by special effects. And although not completely accurate, the horses' body language and behavior is fairly on point throughout this movie! Fact that no one asked for, at around 17:25 when Spirit is watching Rain, he briefly demonstrates behavior of a stallion who's...*frustrated* over being kept from a mare.
Oh yeah, I grew up around mustangs and I LOVE this movie! Also, years later, some people were "sickened" by the fact that it was likely that the foals at the beginning were Spirits and he may have had more babies with most of the herd...and I just shrugged and said "That was supposed to surprise me!" XD
Maybe not completely accurate, but definitely a lot of research went into it for the final product! I hate to do this but compare it to something like Lion King 2019 where any feline body language is virtually non-existent. It's amazing how a movie that's focused more on the story than being "realistic" wound up being more realistic than the "realistic" Lion King.
Yes!!! Oh my goodness. I love how in an animated movie they are showing first nations people as proper people with a society all their own and with a respect for nature. As opposed to historically inaccurate Pocahontas and insulting Peter pan. Also showing the discrimination and destroying of their culture and people by western settlers.
Also they don’t make them the “all wise and knowing, mysterious and magical people” trope they often fall into. They feel like grounded people in a society going about their daily lives. They are also still seen as an obstacle to Spirit’s freedom since they too capture and tame horses for their own needs. Spirit only eventually allows Little Creek to ride him because he’d earned his trust and respect. And the colonel isn’t even completely irredeemably evil as a character either, since he decides to let Little Creek and Spirit go once they earned his respect and stopped them from being shot. So the human characters still don’t even entirely fall into the “white people bad”, “native people pure”, trope some like to complain about. (Even though historical-wise..that’s pretty much exactly what it was lol). At the end of the day, spirit didn’t really want either of the lives the different groups offered, since both did contribute in some way in “taming” the wild west. He just wanted to stay a wild animal. I like that.
This movie is amazing in every way! Even accurate representation of race and I love that they went with historical fiction for the genre. Such a unique idea instead of a generic talking animal movie
I SAID THIS TOO. the movie with all its focus on "realism" wound up being LESS REALISTIC than the movie that focused on the STORY. The people behind Spirit CARED about what they were making, they had a story they wanted to tell, it wasn't a soulless cash grab.
I would not be surprised if Spirit and Littlecreek stayed friends for life, and maybe Spirit would have visited him every few years with his entire family. I could imagine him and Rain going back to the village with their own kids, being able to meet Littlecreek's kids, too.
I love the scenes of Spirit racing the eagle and the eagle’s shadow is over his back. Then at the end, when they make that epic jump, after so long of him fighting to go home, Little Creek cries out and spreads his arms like an eagle. 🦅
I've never cried when they took spirit away, but your tears are powerful. She actually isn't pregnant, it's just her breed of horse. She's pretty healthy and has a great build.
I loved that Spirit went with the people who captured him to protect his family. He was probably thinking, "Okay, one day, I'm going to get back home, but right now, I don't really have a choice here. Have to protect my family, only way I can do that is if I go with them."
Really goes to show how great of a leader he is. He knows that his best bet in the long run for both himself and his herd is to let himself be taken. Still a painful scene, though.
They work so hard to break him, because they can see he's fearless, and the less a horse reacts to the chaos of a battle, the better a mount they'll be. If they DID succeed in breaking him, he probably would've been given to a captain to lead the charges. It's ironic, that the more he fights back, the more appealing he becomes.
People are talking about Bryan Adams and Hans Zimmer behind the score, but not enough people are talking about how the bloody legend James Baxter was one of the animators, which is why things look so smooth and fluid, and the characters move so realistically!
I WILL say, I am impressed that the horses don't say a WORD in this movie (other than Spirit narrating) but you can still tell EXACTLY what they are thinking and feeling. Its not boring or tedious, but the animation (both for the movie as a whole and the horses' expressions) is stunning.
Hans Zimmer did both Prince of Eygpt and Spirit. He is able to capture emotions in the score so much... no composer can give me goosebumps like he can. Bryan Adam's songs were great as well. Sound the Bugle was totally my go too teenage emo song... hahaha
@@inarifox8912 I'm also a Utahn but from the Wasatch Front. But I have visited down there and it is amazing! I read that they took a lot of inspiration from Utah and Colorado, as well as Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, and Glacier National Park. They really studied for this film and it shows
I think you talked over my favorite line in Sound the Bugle. “If you lose yourself, your courage soon will follow.” So much meaning in that line, such an underrated song. Probably my favorite in any animated movie honestly
The mare wasn’t going into labor after they fell off the waterfall. She was shot. That’s why there was a bullet hole on her shoulder and the man said, “she’s not gonna make it”
Maybe because the subtitles said "labored breathing"? Idk, I didn't exactly catch what the subtitles said but that could be another reason why he thought she was in labor.
The moment Spirit wonders if his herd misses him and they all look at the sky at the same moment and when he reunites with Rain always get me. Literal tears.
I never realised how expressive the horses are even without speaking (thank for that, it wouldn'd be same) and now I got it they have eyebrows. I didn't really noticed that before and I watched it a lot when I was a kid.
This is my favourite horse movie and damn I miss horseback riding! I also love that they didn't really give the horses any voices but had to work via their horse sounds and expressions. Criminally underrated movie and it always makes me cry! Thank you for reacting!
you can tell this movie was such a passion project! i love how they gave Spirit his voice with the voiceover and let the animation and the score do most of the storytelling. also those painted backgrounds are amazing!!! i loved this movie a lot as a kid, it was fun to watch along!
I identify a lot when Rain gets angry at Spirit for chasing Little Creek and he goes “Mares 🙄”, because I have a Mare😂 and she’s as stubborn as Rain hahaha
I love this scene too! For those who may not know, a mare is a female adult horse. So Spirit huffing and muttering that was essentially the same as a human rolling their eyes and muttering "women" 😂
That they could make the distance to the other side, maybe. I’m a bit more skeptical about the part where his legs didn’t snap like twigs on landing. XD
The way they portrayed the natives and their connection with nature is beautiful! Great truthful reaction video as always. Much love from Greece to everyone reading this, be well friends.
I watched my VHS up and down as a child. That was one of my favourite movies! I watched it in german so the songs were translated and still full of feelings. The saddest part for me was always the ride in the snowy train. With that song I always tear up. Even now I adore this movie and like to watch it then and again. I'm happy that you loved it as well!
Definitely one of the best opening scores to a movie. The scenery, the camera motion, the music all swells together so beautifully and powerfully. Right out of the gate, they are telling you what they are going for in this film. Epic. Strength. Spirit. Freedom. Heart.
I grew up with this movie, watched it over and over again; this movie, cheesy as it is, is so special to me. I’m cryin in the club right now watching you get so emotional about it too, so thank you nick, this video means a lot to me ❤️😊
Same here, it's still my all-time favorite movie. Now that I'm 19 I can now better understand it- obviously, please🤧But I haven't watched it for more than a year, and watching this reaction made me get all emotional like wtf😭I need to watch the whole thing and soon too- especially with the soundtrack being so good too🤌
I cry for pretty much this whole movie. For another Very emotional movie that is super underrated outside the horse community you have to see Black Beauty. The version with Sean Bean in it. Gorgeous movie tackling some very serious things that horses have had to live though over the years in our service.
Even better is the 1987 Black Beauty cartoon movie. While plot is overall the same, the cartoon lays a bit more in to the cruelty of how horses were treated and viewed back in those days.
....oh dear. I remember reading a story on wattpad years ago callled black beauty, and yes it does follow a horse and the cruelty of man. It's where I learned about stuff like tails being cut off and preventing horses from lowering their head. Thinking about it now, with its writing quality and all, it makes sense that the story in wattpad was an actual published book (I googled) and someone just decided to put the whole thing in wattpad apparently (I wonder if it's still free to read or if people have to pay for it now.....but the person who published it there didn't actually write so...). I didn't get to finish it, I was younger and eventually lost interest with the harder writing style and went on to other easier to digest wattpad stories... But anyways, my list of movies to watch is slowly growing lol, but I hope to be able to watch Black Beauty someday! Thank you! I hadn't known there's a movie of it!
You don't know how much joy it brings me to see your reactions! Spirit is amazing in showing that a relationship between horse/animal and human works without voice/talking. Awesome reaction as always and so glad you liked it!
It's rare to see a kind soul, your so full of compassion it gives me hope for the future. Thank you for sharing, I feel closer to humanity with each video. This was my favorite movie as a kid, loved the expressions more powerful than words.
I've seen this movie so many times and I *always* cry whenever Rain gets shot :( it's so heart wrenching even though I know she survives. Spirit is a definite favorite of mine and I'm not gonna watch the monstrosity of a "sequel" they're making. Bleh.
@@dulgpesg they made a Heartland style sequel series on Netflix called Spirit riding free where he meets a little girl and (Rant incoming) WILLINGLY LIVES IN A STABLE AND LETS RANDOM PEOPLE RIDE HIM. WHICH DEFEATS THE ENTIRE THEME OF THE MOVIE AND BUTCHERS SPIRIT'S ENTIRE CHARACTER. NOT TO MENTION THAT NONE OF THE OTHER CHARACTERS (Rain or Little Creek) EVEN SHOW UP OR ARE MENTIONED!! Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron was the first movie I watched in theaters in my life, and it has been a part of my life ever since. This movie is my favorite piece of art to ever be put to animation and jumpstarted my creative drive. So when DreamWorks announced that they were making a show I was ecstatic and when it dropped on Netflix I set aside the whole day to binge. I didn't even make it 4 episodes in before I turned my TV off in disgust. If you hold any part of this movie close to your heart like I do the Netflix show Or the movie they are making from it is NOT worth your time
@@kittvskarrkr6074 Why defend garbage? It's still garbage. And the new one that just came out, couldn't even finish watching the trailer.... garbage. They're not sequels, they just took a known character from a good movie and made spinoff female empowerment kids story out of it. Has nothing to do with the actual movie.
So whose gonna tell him that horse herd's operate similarly to lion prides and that the foals that Spirit saves in the beginning might even be his children.
I believe the movie ignored typical horse social structure to create a bigger sense of family having his mother around, if it hadn't, spirit would have left the original herd when he got to a certain maturity and joined a bachelor herd until he found a mare to start his own herd.
This and How to train your dragon are favorite movies all of time😍 and this movie is the proof that you don't need a talking animal too tell a story😊 it's so amazing that they used the songs and his voice to tell the story and to tell how he was feeling🥰 I'm always gonna love this movie🐎❤️
@@cniknik9863 And now, instead of just a Netflix series for kids, they're doing a theatrically released film! Ugh! My hope is that maybe some good will come of it. People will want to come back and revisit the original and praise it for the underrated masterpiece that it is
i love how emotional you are about this movie. this is one of my go to movies for when i just need to cry. im 23 years old and still watch this movie regularly. the story is so emotional and well told. it doesn't matter that the animation is almost 20 years old now, or that its basic.
My favorite detail in this movie is during the beginning when Spirit's narrator says "And flying? there were times I believed I could." And then cue Spirit and Little Creek later jumping across the canyon, so far, it could be said they were flying.
One of my favorite things about this movie is you are getting Spirit's narrative but none of the other horses speak. They somehow made me speak horse, I saw this when I was young and it convinced me momentarily that I could totally talk to my grandfather's horses. Can't even pick a favorite character because I fell in love with all of them, even the "bad guy".
Me and my best friend LOVES this movie, and one year when we were teenagers when we were on a camp we started this movie on her computer in our room. We had the window open so people outside heard the music and at the end of the movie we had probably like 15 people completely spellbound by it in our room. Good times! =D
This literally my favorite animal animated movie, I remember my mom telling me right when we got home from picking it up I seriously sat there and watched the movie about 5-6 times without getting up I can't express how much I love this movie and how much it means to me! dude I got the VHS and DVD in my room right now
This movie will always have a special place in my heart, especially since it was the first film I ever saw in theaters. I also have to praise Bryan Adams because in my opinion, he gave us one of the best animated film soundtracks ever and anyone who thinks otherwise is crazy!
This score is absolutely one of Hans Zimmer's best soundtracks. The score that plays during Spirit and Little Creek's escape through the canyon is dangerous for me to play when I'm driving because it makes me want to race other cars LOL.
5:20 I think theres so many songs because unlike MANY other animal themed movies the horses are actual animals that can't talk and can only express themselves in certain ways so instead of dialogue it's amazingly emotional music lol this movie is and always will forever be one of my all time favorite movies EVER
This is actually the only animated film that didn't come out with extremely bad cartoon shows. Like the art to keep them the way they originally look, looks amazing.
This movie was literally my childhood, I remember rewatching over and over as a kid because I just felt so amazed by the story and I also always love horses since they’re one of my favorite animals
This movie was my absolute FAVORITE as a kid, and I think the fact that the animals don't talk (besides narration now and then) helped a lot with that, 5 year old me could easily tell what was happening because the character's emotions were all centered around their facial and physical expressions. (that and the pretty animation, I loved how they animated the horses omg-) OMG I GOTTA QUICK MENTION, THE SCENE AT 9:32 WAS MY FAVORITE AND I WOULD PURPOSELY WATCH IT AT NIGHT TIME SO THE LIGHTNING WOULD LIGHT UP THE WHOLE ROOM- OKAY IM DONE NOW-
You were curious about it so here you go. It is commonly believed that Native Americans only painted their horses for battle, but they were also painted before buffalo hunts. Specific symbols were reserved for hunting to display a horse's past achievements, and bring protection and good luck to the horse and rider. The circle around the eye for example was believed make the horse’s senses stronger, a circle with a zigzag through it going down the leg from the shoulder was a symbol of speed and stealth. Different colors also had different meanings too. White spots on the chest were a prayer to Native American Gods for hail to fall on their enemy (essentially weather to weaken the enemy). I have always been fascinated with the connection between Native Americans and horses and how they respected them as much as the people of their own tribe.
Oh I am so happy. People, especially reactors I follow, are finally watching this criminally underrated masterpiece. Earlier today I saw TotallyCody say he will be reacting to this on Friday, and then I see you upload a reaction! I haven't actually watched the movie in a long while, but I still listen to the soundtrack all the time.
I was lucky enough to grow up surrounded by horses (since my family has been dedicated to raising horses for 2 generations) they are the kindest and most noble animals that you can have on earth, there is no feeling that can be compared to riding a horse I remember seeing this movie when I was six years old and it is still one of my favorite movies. I fondly remember one of my favorite stallions who was exactly identical to the horse in this movie, sadly he passed away last year, but I'm sure he runs free in the clouds
I took riding lessons at a nearby stable (thank my mom for working so damn hard for those lessons, cause they weren’t cheap). And riding really is amazing. When I started I rode a small mare who had the coloring as Spirit and it was amazing. My condolences @danny wolfson, but thank you for your experience!
You are so lucky you got to be around horses! I was raised with mustangs (parents were trainers) and I agree with your analogy 100%! I’m so sorry about your horse that passed. However I wouldn’t recommend him watching Black Beauty!! It’s way too sad! It’s a beautiful story but so sad!
I had such a good feeling you would love this one!!! 😄 Came out at the height of my horseback riding years as a kid....it was a movie I was crazy about, and still love to this day! I think Hans Zimmer's score here is criminally underrated
This movie is one of my childhood classics that was constantly on. My parents divorced when I was very young, and my dad kept this movie at his place when I came and visited. He even bought the soundtrack/score for this on CD. Him and I would listen to it a lot. I’m 23 now, but my dad just recently told me that every time I left to go back to my moms place, he would play that sad song after spirit and rain are separate. It hurts my heart that he felt that way, and it’s one of the reasons this movie still holds a special place in my heart
One of the best lines in the whole movie is when the narrator says “Mares” after Rain stood up for Little Creek. Having a bunch of mares, it is so freaking true. They’re awesome, but rude, moody, pushy and downright hostile sometimes.
Massive props to the animators for doing such a fantastic job with the horses' expressions. The horse characters didn't NEED to talk, they were given enough detail and effort that, even if you took away the songs and the narration (which I never minded, actually) you'd still be able to interpret the characters' emotions through the expressive faces and even the body language. The amount of research that went into equine behavior, posture, body language - this movie was a labor of love and it shows.
I'm very glad you liked this movie. I am a Lakota like Little creek in this movie from the Oglala and and if you ever knew anything about the Lakota we are known for our Magnificent Horse training skills and our connection with horses. So they film really stuck with me on a personal level. And im glad it's still being preserved.
It’s a pretty heavy blow but not enough to shatter your leg (I’m telling you this as a cowgirl that has been pushed into a pole similarly😂❤️) it’s gonna hurt like hell but injuries like those happen more frequently when you fall off the horse ☺️
Same, I definitely know this movie word-by-word (but in Italian). I can assure you that the songs are even better in the Italian translation! I love this movie to bits!
I loved this movie as a kid. I like how there is barely any dialogue between the characters because it's from Spirit's point of view. This so much better than that abomination of a mini-series. The new one looks even worse. Just watch this one, instead.
This is seriously my favourite movie of all time. Like nothing else has ever compared. I used to watch this on repeat as a child. And I still come back to it time to time now at 23, its still as good as I remember it when I was 5 years old, and there’s not many movies I can say that about. Beautiful movie ugh.
I would be lying if I said I didn't cry through the whole video. Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron has been my favorite movie since I was little and it makes me cry within the first 5 minutes. So happy that this video got recommended to me and I am glad I watched it!
I'm so glad you did a react video to this movie! Spirit was my all-time favourite movie as a kid and it's still in my top 5 easily. I feel like no one I show it to gets emotional over it like I do. It's great to see someone else get as into this movie as me, crying and cheering at each turn.
The Colonel is actually supposed to be George Custer, aka a total egomaniac. Now day, real cowboys don’t use sharp spurs, the things that he was kicking Spirit with. They’re blunt, and mostly used for fashion, though, when they are used, it’s more of a tap to a part of their belly that is covered with thick fat, or muscles. It’s to motivate the horse to speed up. Spirit was my favorite movie, and I reminds me of my home.
It's good cause it's incorporated with reality and it feels amazing to see that. Pretty sure everyone knows this, but Imma just cut it short. mustangs has a very tight knitted relationship with its herd. They even have partners whom they always stick with(you will always see the couples in pairs), and are super loyal; many wouldn't leave even in human intervention, so we cannot fathom the pain they feel at the separation. (Some of them, even after decades of seperation, they still do not fail to recognise their partner)
that whole leap scene. are villain was at lest one of the villains that knows when they are beaten. and on top of that he give respect to Spirit. it's rare to have villains like him. once in awhile not every bad guy has to be 100% evil and also knows when they are beaten. that's actually cool and it also makes the endings more calm and peaceful.
i love how the animators took the time to study real horses and how they behave (like when spirit nipped at the sleeping dude at the camp) and how they move. it is 100 percent accurate! and i say this as a horse person. it's also good that they don't talk, but convey emotions through bodylanguage and you can just hear spirit's thoughts.

That is so cool! Thanks for that fun fact!
@@nickflix8657 I'm currently watching the video... I'm kinda commenting as I go so I don't forget. XDDDDD
Wow, I never knew the music was made by _the_ Hans Zimmer! Makes sense why it's so good.
PREACH
@@thatoneperson3794 Yep. Hans Zimmer is one of the best. In the behind the scenes they have a whole thing just about the music.
i really want to believe that the animators didn't tried to make an attractive horse
Well, I was just thinking and I remember having a crush on him when I was young, so I think they did that haha
Fun fact: Spirit was actually modeled after a real mustang horse :>
@@erikperhs_ i was actually talking about his love interest, but i think about it and both are kinda attractive... Btw i also had a crush on both in my childhood
The Dreamworks Face™️ strikes again!
Well, imagine them without eyebrows and it changes a lot. lol.
This movie is an underrated masterpiece. The music makes this movie a 10000/10
When you got Hans Zimmer doing the score, you know you can expect a gem of a soundtrack.
Let's not forget Matt damon as Spirit's voice, it's amazing XD
@@MrAdrianki So they technically rescued Matt Damon from the humans....man, if Matt Damon is in a movie, you know someone will have to save him lol
My school took us to see this in theaters. The football team was bummed out that we were seeing "that gay ass horse movie".
They all left the theater crying.
Very powerful film.
Lmao, that’ll show them to judge horse movies in the future 😂
Oh, man, as a horse nerd I could talk about this movie for hours. Fun fact: the horse noises in this movie were all recorded from real horses, as opposed to being made by special effects. And although not completely accurate, the horses' body language and behavior is fairly on point throughout this movie!
Fact that no one asked for, at around 17:25 when Spirit is watching Rain, he briefly demonstrates behavior of a stallion who's...*frustrated* over being kept from a mare.
omg were the sad horse sounds recorded too!!
The portrayal of indigenous people in this movie makes me so happy, especially when you compare them to the red skinned, accented ones in Peter Pan.
Yes!!! Oh my goodness. I love how in an animated movie they are showing first nations people as proper people with a society all their own and with a respect for nature. As opposed to historically inaccurate Pocahontas and insulting Peter pan. Also showing the discrimination and destroying of their culture and people by western settlers.
Not only are they portrayed in a positive light, but in an accurate and not offensive way. It makes the movie much better.
@@velocityraptor9270 it pretty much is right tho lol. white people literally tried to more or less eliminate all natives in america.
Spirit:
-facial expressions
-no dialogue
Lion King remake:
-no facial expressions
-they talk
They tried to make it too realistic with the lion king remake. Might as well we watch animal planet instead of that😂
@@odysseus2k1 They really over did it, lions can pull facial expressions to a degree and they made the character models to static to convey that
I SAID THIS TOO.
the movie with all its focus on "realism" wound up being LESS REALISTIC than the movie that focused on the STORY.
I’d like it if he made a cameo in Spirit Untamed, then we’d at least get some connection to the original film.
I always wondered if maybe Spirit moved his herd to live closer to their camp. That way he could be free but still live nearby his old friend
STOP! OKAY, FUCK YOU!! NOW I'M CRYING MORE!! 😭😭
I love the scenes of Spirit racing the eagle and the eagle’s shadow is over his back. Then at the end, when they make that epic jump, after so long of him fighting to go home, Little Creek cries out and spreads his arms like an eagle. 🦅
Oh yeah you're right! Good eye!
I've never cried when they took spirit away, but your tears are powerful. She actually isn't pregnant, it's just her breed of horse. She's pretty healthy and has a great build.
Although Spirit Jr. does come into the world sometime after this movie
@@shanerose7204 I mean, he already has 2 Spirit Jrs. In his herd.
the reason she was weak is because she got shot, you can see it on her shoulder.
@@Ruby-il6zx yeah
my friends thought she was in labor too. I dont think a lot of people are used to seeing a horse on its side. Most are quite round.
Hans Zimmer outdid himself with this score. It's one of his best ever 🥰
It's my number one favorite Hans Zimmer score! It's a masterpiece
The same Hans Zimmer from the Lion King?
They work so hard to break him, because they can see he's fearless, and the less a horse reacts to the chaos of a battle, the better a mount they'll be. If they DID succeed in breaking him, he probably would've been given to a captain to lead the charges.
It's ironic, that the more he fights back, the more appealing he becomes.
12:30 and can go without food or water for three days! talk about a good battle horse…
People are talking about Bryan Adams and Hans Zimmer behind the score, but not enough people are talking about how the bloody legend James Baxter was one of the animators, which is why things look so smooth and fluid, and the characters move so realistically!
19:34 THE MOST underrated romantic scene in the history of cinema honestly, the music, the scenery, the chemistry, ugh. and they're not even humans
Sound the Bugle was totally my go too teenage emo song... hahaha
And the Lion King
Don’t forget The Road To El Dorado!

I think you talked over my favorite line in Sound the Bugle. “If you lose yourself, your courage soon will follow.” So much meaning in that line, such an underrated song. Probably my favorite in any animated movie honestly
Sorry haha I was reading the captions but sometimes I get really excited.
True.
its definitely one of the MOST beautiful songs in animation movie history, from melody to his voice to the lyrics
That's my favorite Bryan Adams song. You Can't Take Me is a close second
That's my favorite line too
The mare wasn’t going into labor after they fell off the waterfall. She was shot. That’s why there was a bullet hole on her shoulder and the man said, “she’s not gonna make it”
Thanks for clarifying, knew she got shot but thought she also went into labor.
That's what I was just going to comment as well. She was dying
The name of the Mare is Rain, and the name of the main human caracter is Little Creek
Brother bear was phil collins, this was Bryan Adams. Both were/are legends from the 80s and 90s. Best songs

My condolences. I hope that you will watch this movie in fondness in the future.
Sorry to hear that too
I identify a lot when Rain gets angry at Spirit for chasing Little Creek and he goes “Mares 🙄”, because I have a Mare😂 and she’s as stubborn as Rain hahaha
I love this scene too! For those who may not know, a mare is a female adult horse. So Spirit huffing and muttering that was essentially the same as a human rolling their eyes and muttering "women" 😂
I had a little Arabian mare once and she reminded me of Rain! 😂😂 She was just as stubborn and feisty!
The thing they were on for the leap was actually higher than the ledge on the other side so that jump is kinda believable.
That they could make the distance to the other side, maybe. I’m a bit more skeptical about the part where his legs didn’t snap like twigs on landing. XD
The way they portrayed the natives and their connection with nature is beautiful!
Great truthful reaction video as always.

Epic. Strength. Spirit. Freedom. Heart.

I cry for pretty much this whole movie. For another Very emotional movie that is super underrated outside the horse community you have to see Black Beauty. The version with Sean Bean in it. Gorgeous movie tackling some very serious things that horses have had to live though over the years in our service.
After this I have to recommend the 1994 Black Beauty. A touching story about a horse's life. It is a classic.
Black beauty 😭 haven't been able to go back to it after watching it many times as a kid and crying my eyes out
Oh yes! That movie always pulls at my heartstrings..
YESSSSSSSSS PLS DO NICK

So whose gonna tell him that horse herd's operate similarly to lion prides and that the foals that Spirit saves in the beginning might even be his children.
That is a fact all the mare except his mother is his mate and those are his children
I believe the movie ignored typical horse social structure to create a bigger sense of family having his mother around, if it hadn't, spirit would have left the original herd when he got to a certain maturity and joined a bachelor herd until he found a mare to start his own herd.

My favorite detail in this movie is during the beginning when Spirit's narrator says "And flying? there were times I believed I could." And then cue Spirit and Little Creek later jumping across the canyon, so far, it could be said they were flying.
Little Creek: Oh no!
Spirit: Ohhhhhh yes!

This movie was my absolute FAVORITE as a kid, and I think the fact that the animals don't talk (besides narration now and then) helped a lot with that, 5 year old me could easily tell what was happening because the character's emotions were all centered around their facial and physical expressions. (that and the pretty animation, I loved how they animated the horses omg-)

I'm SOOOOO glad you enjoyed this! I dont see alot of people who does. Thanks for the hope.
My whole family does. 😊
It's so good!

I watched this movie so much as a kid I scratched the DVD.
Same, I definitely know this movie word-by-word (but in Italian). I can assure you that the songs are even better in the Italian translation!
I love this movie to bits!
I also grew up with this film. This film and the ending of Hidalgo: there is an inherent beauty in wild horses running.
this movie was my entire childhood as a certified Horse Girl™, and still holds a special place in my heart today. I'm glad you reacted to it! :)

This movie and Black Beauty are my favorite movies about horses. Both are told so beautifully and ugh they make me cry.
Black beauty 😭
The Black Stallion (movie) is a good one, too. Has a whole series of books.
Love seeing this movie get the appreciation it deserves. It was one of my absolute favourites as a child, and it's still dear to me as an adult.
My sister is in her twenties and she still cries whenever she watches this
It's good cause it's incorporated with reality and it feels amazing to see that.
For someone who grew up watching this on VHS, seeing your reactions for the first time brings nothing but joy
Ugh I love this movie so much
His tears for Rain when she was shot😭❤️
Edit: and never watch the spinoffs. Ever. Don’t do it.😆
that whole leap scene. are villain was at lest one of the villains that knows when they are beaten. and on top of that he give respect to Spirit. it's rare to have villains like him. once in awhile not every bad guy has to be 100% evil and also knows when they are beaten. that's actually cool and it also makes the endings more calm and peaceful.
Love how you immediately went from "aw yeah he started a fire" to "fuck he started a fire"
i love how the animators took the time to study real horses and how they behave (like when spirit nipped at the sleeping dude at the camp) and how they move. it is 100 percent accurate! and i say this as a horse person. it's also good that they don't talk, but convey emotions through bodylanguage and you can just hear spirit's thoughts.
