I have been making Vtubers for over a year now. And this still taught me SOOOO many little things that will help my workflow. Thank you for the detailed explanation!!!! 💕💕💕💕
Thank you so SO much for all you do!! This video and all the information you provide has been an absolute blessing for newbies like me! I recently got scammed out of $680 by an artist that ended up giving me a very poorly-drawn and cut model that nobody would rig, and decided I'd try to give it a shot at illustrating and cutting it myself (had hired the artist because of hand injuries, so drawing is really painful;;). I've learned so SOOOO much from all of your videos and have saved dozens of hours I'm sure would have been spent flailing around clueless otherwise! i can't believe i didn't know about holding alt and dragging the ruler to another layer. my jaw dropped and eyes popped out of my head from this information. i finished my model already and had to suffer painfully copying and pasting empty ruler layers and merging them and so many of my rulers are somehow out of line it's driving me insane. thank u for this tip
Good to see that Celsys still has the funds to sponsor creators without resorting to the subscription model they announced. Maybe they should keep it this way.
before I start creating L2dModel I personally learn the basics of the live2Dcubism and it was really hard, it took me 3weeks to understand everything and how it works, but it really helps ^^. other artists should learn the basic L2dcubism its hard at first but it's very useful and enjoyable when you learn it. especially when working with the riggers so you can understand what they were saying. I learn a lot from your videos ^^, especially 17:17 the separation of the line art, base color, and the details shading. I need to duplicate the Files before merging them just in case ^^.
Yes!! It's a really good idea to try out Live2D and just see how it works to better illustrate the model :> I'm glad that my video helped you!! It is a good idea to save a duplicate of your file unmerged just in case 💖
This was an amazing tutorial!! You brought up some CSP tools that I didn't know existed, and I esspecially loved the section talking about void spaces since I feel like not a lot of live2D tutorials bring that up! Excellent work!!
Thank you!! I made sure to bring that up since a good number of tutorials and guides just tell you what parts should be cut and not really the other fundamentals ;w;
I literally just opened my art programme to give this a shot and this video was recommended to me, amazing timing! I'm not going to make vtubers, I don't think, I'm just interested in making live 2d models of my ocs just for fun. Also your model looks sooo good!
This is so useful even for a general CSP user like me. How you separate layers is an eye-opener for me because my layering and folders are a mess 😋. I also didnt know about the sub view and new window view, Ive been struggling with zoom in, zoom out to see my entire work process lol. ♥♥♥

Just based on learning about the symmetry tools and how to get accuracy in via centering the ruler, fast filling color and the multiple eraser tool changed my life. Really have to thank you for the hard work on making this tutorial for blur artists and absolute beginners. Ofc glad that Clip Studio Paint has so many resources to enable the artists, but this guide is just awesome for avoiding hours of testing and suffering from picking up new tricks/tools.
I’m really glad you learned a lot from this video!! I was afraid that this won’t be super useful since there is already a ton of “how to cut vtubers” videos on YT ☺️
@@KiraOmoriHey there, I have a question that I'm not sure exactly how to describe. Mainly while trying to put into practice what I learnt, I found out that when centering the symmetry ruler, the tool property values (in the slider/numerical value) are not exactly reflecting the pixel value of the canvas. I managed to use Grid to find the center of my canvas, and lined my ruler to the center that way. Is there a way to change tool property values to reflect that of the canvas size? For example when you said to make the Center X value half of the canvas total width (mine was 3000pixel, so 1500 px) but after manually lining up using the Grid the value at the end was a weird 127 instead. I have seen people at reddit saying that they just memorize that weird value but I wanted to know if the tool property numerical value could be synced to the canvas size.
Wow! I'm so proud that many people like using いらすとや's illust(actually いらすとや is made by Japanese artists, and many Japanese use them EVERYWHERE; you can see them EVERYWHERE in Japan:) ) Thank you for the helpful and useful tutorial. Very interesting thank you! I'm not an artist but have minimal experience with digital art using a mouse and thought designing a vtuber could be a fun "starter" [guess I'm a masochist too?] project to get me back into the hobby
I just found this and I wanted to make a model of my character from Phantasy Star Online 2 which is a HUcast from the original PSO in a nice hotrod red, but with a more detailed look like you see in PSO2 noadays. Thank you for this, i wish to make my own vtuber and rig it myself (too broke to hire somebody) however i am so going to need to rewatch everything because my adhd did not let me fully pay attention lol
Unfortunately I am a visual learner with adhd. I have to mimic the process like a mirror for my neuro to understand and create data flow to my brain to achieve said subject and check it off as learned within my skull. I was pretty concerned on drawing L2d models, since I tried it once and failed badly. But after watching this video, I feel abit more determined to do it myself >: ) Thank you for the amazing tutorial!!
I think your video will be helpful even without CSP, so you do not need to be afraid about it don't age well or if people would preffer to not use CSP (whatever I just hope people in the comments don't be too harsh about it because of it being a Celsys sponsored video).
Another very useful video! I was having trouble getting the results i wanted and was about to give up on my own first vtuber model design but this video really motivated me again! Thank you for teaching us what you know Kira, it means a lot
Btw when i try to view your workspace it says 'This content was deleted by the administrator, but you can still use it if you have already downloaded it.' Is there a problem on my side or did you delete it?
Great video!!! Do you have any tips on what how to work as both an artist and a rigger? (My friend and I both want to become VTubers, and I will be drawing and rigging)
@@KiraOmori Because I'm the rigger as well, I'm not sure if overseparating will be ideal, especially because I'm going to be using the free version of Live2D, and as for the free trial, I feel overseparation may be time consuming? I'm not really sure though, I'm just a beginner
I personally wouldn't over separate, since the free version has a texture limit of one 2048px image and 100 artmeshes/layers. I would keep the model fairly simple, starting with a chibi would be good!
you're video is informative but as a complete beginner, (no skill in drawing, don't have ipad, just have a gaming pc which is functional and efficient for the software needed) i already have a 2D model. I just wanted to separate the layers but I don't know how to create layers and folders so i think I'm stuck with that. it's been days of researching and I've been seeing the same process from all vtubers guides and i think this is advanced for me as I'm stuck with the very first part of separating. I might go back to this video tho goodluck with me finding the ACTUAL begginer's guide.
Highly recommend watching guides dedicated to the software you are going to use if you still don't know how to create folders and layers ^^ this tutorial is meant for artists who are beginners in VTuber modeling, so a lot of them already know how to operate a program. You can come back to this video once you've got the hang of the software you'll use, I wish you all the best!
Im currently redrawing my model, I messed up a few times on his previous model which I never got the chance to rig. I accidentally made him look a lot younger lol. I’m still having trouble figuring out how to cut him
Thank you so much for the tutorial! I’m trying to do my first vtuber model (I’m still at the drawing process, because I’m an artist) but it’s buff male the model that I’m trying to do, do you have vtuber model that I can use as references? :’) I can’t found any of them
I have been using clip studio for 4 years now...I never knew about the symmetry tool D: I've just been copying half of the face and pasting it mirrored T-T
love the video. Can you tell me or make a video of a good drawing tablet for beginners that is not crazy but It does the job like from A-Z. I used to draw on a canvas when I was 16 ( I wasn't the best but I wasn't the worst lol) I also worked on blender. Been thinking of getting the XP-PEN Artist13.3 Pro as a start. What do you think? ty :)
I actually have a video on my channel where I reviewed a tablet that's great for beginners! You can watch it here: ruclips.net/video/cXJufvloycc/видео.html I don't really recommend getting a display tablet if you're not sure if you are going to commit to digital art since it could be quite an expensive purchase! But if money and space isn't a concern, you're free to get whatever you like :)
Hii, i was just wondering if u need to follow a specific layer order? I tried to make a model but since the clothes are baggy i need to place the hand layer underneath the leg layer just to place the sleeves behind the legs
Hey Kira! Thank you for continuing to share the secrets of the Live2d with us ^_^ I downloaded the mao_pro_en sample model and her mouth is made using blend shapes. This looks much easier to do, but it only seems to work with iPhones? We can't set up each phoneme separately with vtube studio and webcam. Am I understanding correctly, or am I missing something? Sorry for my English!
Hey! I think you could still use a model with blendshapes even without an iPhone, but since each phoneme is a blendshape I don't think it will track well as a VTuber model :) when you aren't doing VBridger rigging, VTuber models only track MouthOpen and MouthForm parameters, and those params don't really need the use of blendshapes. If you'd like to know more, you could do research on VBridger rigging (there's a video here on RUclips), but you will definitely need an iPhone for VBridger.
@@KiraOmori Thank you very much for your answer! This feature looks much easier to create than a regular mouth. It's sad that it was not as useful as it seemed at first sight :)
Yes, I've actually haven't found a lot of use with blendshapes except for rigging expressions and some physics (not recommended by a whole lot because sometimes the physics just doesn't look nice when made with blendshapes). I think what was showcased in the sample model for the mouth is more useful for animations rather than VTubing :D
I've been wanting to be a vtuber for 2 years now, but I am SO bad at digital art! That's why I'm trying to hire someone to draw and rig a model. But then there is another issue. I'M BROKE- so that's why I am currently looking for people to do an art trade with all of my artwork this year ❤ wish me luck because I know it's been difficult so far 😂
if you sell the sample models are they modifiable? or can a person rig it to use it? or not possible? do you sell models ready to use rigged and designed?
Hi! The sample model I have can be rigged and used, just not for commercial purposes :) I'm still thinking about making sample models exclusively for commercial use.
Procreate comes to mind, I am not entirely sure of the compatibility for other softwares. I think you should try any software that can import files as PSDs, and test it out in Live2D (or have someone test it out for you). Sometimes softwares have compatibility issues... CSP, Photoshop, and Paint Tool Sai are drawing programs I am most confident about! I haven't used other softwares so I can't really say anything much about them :(

this video is very helpful but where do i get the 3D model
Hi! It was apparently deleted by a moderator and I am unsure why ;_; I've contacted someone from CSP and I hope it gets resolved next week
@@KiraOmori Okay, thank you for checking :) Have a nice day!
@@KiraOmoriWas the model ever put back up?
It's ok, I to am a line art masochist 😂 ♥. Thank you for this. I learned so much. I'm hoping to make my own model in the future.
Great video!!! Do you have any tips on what how to work as both an artist and a rigger? (My friend and I both want to become VTubers, and I will be drawing and rigging)
ooo hmmm do you have any specific question in mind?
@@KiraOmori Because I'm the rigger as well, I'm not sure if overseparating will be ideal, especially because I'm going to be using the free version of Live2D, and as for the free trial, I feel overseparation may be time consuming? I'm not really sure though, I'm just a beginner
I personally wouldn't over separate, since the free version has a texture limit of one 2048px image and 100 artmeshes/layers. I would keep the model fairly simple, starting with a chibi would be good!
Ok, thanks!!!
I didn't know about the ruler >.> I've have clip studio for years now, makes me wonder how many other things i don't know
you're video is informative but as a complete beginner, (no skill in drawing, don't have ipad, just have a gaming pc which is functional and efficient for the software needed) i already have a 2D model.
I guess i understand more than usual thak u verry much
Im currently redrawing my model, I messed up a few times on his previous model which I never got the chance to rig.
:’) I can’t found any of them
Sorry for replying so late! I don't really know of any reference for a buff male model :'(
9:09 I've never seen the 'additive' layer mode before on CSP, does it go by another name?
I just mentioned it a couple of seconds after that
I didn't understand at all because of my dyspraxia 😢
But it looks great !
Thank you for this ^-^
You're welcome!
Where do you get the grey base 3D model from that you draw on top of? Looking to use Live 2D for the first time!
Hi! It's included in the CSP software :D it's one of their 3D materials
I have been using clip studio for 4 years now...I never knew about the symmetry tool D: I've just been copying half of the face and pasting it mirrored T-T
Great video thanks where I can by the model template?
I think it should be linked in the description!
Hello there 😊 I watch the whole video but don't understand a thing😢 😅 since I've not use clipstudiopaint on PC 😢
love the video.
You can watch it here: ruclips.net/video/cXJufvloycc/видео.html
I don't really recommend getting a display tablet if you're not sure if you are going to commit to digital art since it could be quite an expensive purchase! But if money and space isn't a concern, you're free to get whatever you like :)
@@KiraOmori ty ty
I have a question, since I am new to using this app I was wondering how u brought the 3d body, I use an ipad and not a computer or a laptop,
Hii, i was just wondering if u need to follow a specific layer order?
I tried to make a model but since the clothes are baggy i need to place the hand layer underneath the leg layer just to place the sleeves behind the legs
TYSM in advancee :))
Hi! I know i'm a little late to this video but can you do the same for a half body live2d models? Thanks in advance ^-^
Hi!! Fundamental concepts should still be the same :>
I have a question, since I am new to using this app I was wondering how u brought the 3d body?
hi!! can i use Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop to make psd drawing of my model??
I'm in the middle of making a model and anxious about how to cut it how fitting I also use csp
So when labeling your parts with L and R, are you using patients (Model?) LR or your own LR
haha I like how you used patient 😂 it's the model's LR!
@@KiraOmori lol I work in a hospital XD
Knowing patient LR is a must
I've been wanting to be a vtuber for 2 years now, but I am SO bad at digital art! That's why I'm trying to hire someone to draw and rig a model. But then there is another issue. I'M BROKE- so that's why I am currently looking for people to do an art trade with all of my artwork this year ❤ wish me luck because I know it's been difficult so far 😂
Cna i asking how many DPI i need seting?
What brush size would you recommend for the sketch and the lineart?
honestly depends on canvas size 0: tbh I just go with what I feel like for that day...
Thank you 💕 sir
I wonder if PSD files can be saved elsewhere without using cs/ps/kr. I'll have to look into that.
Just check if your chosen program can export PSDs ^^ and pray that it imports okay in Live2D hahaha
if you sell the sample models are they modifiable? or can a person rig it to use it? or not possible? do you sell models ready to use rigged and designed?
Hi! The sample model I have can be rigged and used, just not for commercial purposes :) I'm still thinking about making sample models exclusively for commercial use.
1.25 speed for my peeps who have a need for speed to keep engaged.
i use krita and cant use a 3d model to help with anatomy any suggestions?
Arigathank :3
I use procreat and it has limited files and that's why i stop in midddel of cutting and give up :(
does anyone know how to convert files from procreate to psd? not sure how to find guide for that part
Bago subscriber po ako Ate kira😊
May I ask, what if clip studio paint doesn't work for my device, do you have any other suggestions?
Procreate comes to mind, I am not entirely sure of the compatibility for other softwares. I think you should try any software that can import files as PSDs, and test it out in Live2D (or have someone test it out for you).
Sometimes softwares have compatibility issues... CSP, Photoshop, and Paint Tool Sai are drawing programs I am most confident about! I haven't used other softwares so I can't really say anything much about them :(
@@KiraOmori Oh, ok thank you so much though, I appreciate it!!
I Just started following this video and already frustrated because i cannot figure out how to get your workspace onto my csp for the life of me :(
oh no 😭 does this link help? support.clip-studio.com/en-us/faq/articles/20210078
@@KiraOmori So i followed that and applied it but it didn't make all the layer names like it says it will, i still just have one layer.
