Sounds good BUT you can not compare it to the Dubs. I found a LP in the age of 6 years in 1985 of the Dubs and visited ~40 concerts over 27 years. This gig is the best indicator that this has nothing to do with the Dubs. The voices of Ronnie, Luke, Ciaran, Bob and Jim were unique. And yes, as Sean entered the line up his voice was very characteristic and good selection in songs likes „Sally Whitley“ etc.. Paddy Reilly’s entering in 1995 was a feeling of a missed son came home to his family. In combination with their playing skills the instruments (John, Barney and Eammon) gave a very special sound. But after 2005 with Patsy Watchorn the story ended. The music was not synchron anymore and after 2012, so without John and Barney, it is a complete other band. Paul is making a good job, it sounds like in any Irish Pub. Not bad but in respect to the Dubliners, that has nothing to do with them. Example: Luke‘s last concert in Amsterdam singing the Wild Rover. Listen to his voice (still less power but still unique), to all others in the chorus and the instruments around: ruclips.net/video/sXklcG6wl0E/видео.html Wild Rover is played at this gig as last song as well!
I must say Shay is doing quite well with the Band, I must say ! :) No one could replace Eamonn - but that´s it with all of the former Dubliners, they were very unique characters & musicians, somebody joining the band was more ``filling the gap`` - as Sean once mentioned, when somebody mentioned he had replaced Luke Kelly. Paddy Reilly said something similar in an interview when the interviewer said he replaced Ronnie ....
The sound man was 36 seconds late for work that day :)
Aw c, mon your looking for perfection, just to follow in their footsteps is perfection enough, good on ya legends you'll do me
