Hereditary guilt or what nonsense are you talking about?
Being a heir of a quite wealthy family, of course with ties to our countries past in one way or another, it's rather just that not everybody gives a crap about staus symbol bs, public praise etc. and folks just doing what they think is right without requiring praise or recognition as reward.

He is retired now, and there are no existing photos of him in the last 20 years. The newspaper doesn't write about him, because he wants to live a decent life. His house is in an area where the "upper class" of our city lives - many beautiful old houses, some very decent, some more luxurious, many "normal" houses for one family and even some houses with more apartments for people of all incomes. He has build a new campus with a special college/university where the students are part time in a company (Lidl/Kaufland) and part time at the college. He does much for our city, without telling everyone. Very likeable 😊

      Well thats very shallow thinking!
Im not doubting he made it like that, but evil people don’t care about that. They just want to get that money from him.
Why really wealthy people hide their wealth is:
      - Cousins or family who are like a bucket with big holes want more and more every time. They can also pose an existential threat sometimes because of greed!
      - Divorce lawyers will find out where you live and stack your wife.
These are not your abrogation old lawyers, they are people who hire professionals make seducers/young macho guys to hit on your wife. They act like they have money and act like they love her and conspire to take your money in court. Then the lawyer comes and asks for 30% and the guy tells her shes to beautiful to waste her genes with only one man!
      - Criminal bums will target your children and could steal from them, extort them or kidnap them!
      - Criminals could target you also in ways I won’t mention here so not to inspire lowlifes.
This is why you hide your money no matter how ethically you got it!
Because if you really worked hard to earn it you want to relax, not fight wars and battles to keep it!

I was forced to go to boarding school as there were no schools after 9th grade. I was definitely the poor girl in school, lol. I received a great education. I learned how to speak properly. I didn’t know what a double negative was prior to my boarding school. Typically, we graduated in the top 1% in English. There is a definite difference in old money and new money. You’d never know your standing next to old money, but new money flaunts it. Heck, old money kids used duck tape on their dockside’s. One thing I can say is they always made me feel welcome in their homes. They don’t live in reality as kids. It’s just not normal to get a Beach house for your 16th birthday, but for them it is.

True. The same is true in at least the Netherlands and the Scandinavian countries. Showing off is considered obscene.
      It's not a 120K electrical Jaguar, it's 'the car'
      It's not a € 2,3 million mansion, it's your house.
That's also why most sponsorships and donations are done from companies. It's not just for tax reasons, but also because it's easier to say "This company has donated € 1000 to charity" than to say "This guy donated € 1000 to charity".
Stamping your company logo on the van of the 'food bank' who gives leftover food to people on benefits is considered acceptable. Asking them to put your name or photo up there is considered obscene.

The richer you get, the more you'll realize that it's not what you've seen in movies or on instagram. Status signaling becomes decreasingly important. Fancy clothes, supercars on a lease, expensive watches... That's all made for people trying to look rich (who more often than not aren't rich or typically won't stay for long). You become rich by acquiring assets, not liabilities. If you really are wealthy though, why bother showing anyone? Money speaks and wealth whispers. It's better to be rich and anonymous than poor and famous.

The nouveau riche Chinese clearly flaunt their money...and definitely do not follow what you stated above. In Toronto right now, there is so much flaunting of wealth that it becomes disgusting. Decades ago, hardly anyone drove luxury vehicles. These days, the streets are absolutely full of them. It used to be that wealth was not supposed to be flaunted. That rule has been completely thrown out the window these days, in my opinion.

showing, spending (or better wasting) their money/whelth in all kinds of media and situations given to them. That could maybe called 'Rapper-style' in one or another way cause of the
stereotype of spending lots of money on costy 'bling bling' stuff that is mostly not even needed in basic. Just for making a show-off to let the normal seen they 'have and can' buy whatever

I admire the guy who gave his children the option of whether or not they want to inherit their family business, because forcing someone to do something they're not interested in is sure-fire way to bring the whole business down...and I also admire his children for opting to not be in the family business, because it's a great temptation to inherit a multi-billion euro company that will set you for life and have a whole fortune fall into your lap, and they actually have the determination and strong will to not give in to that temptation (or maybe they already have their own multi-billion euro business in the first place LOL)..

I've always appreciated as an American how the ultra rich in other countries are much different than the ultra wealthy in the US. However there are alot of wealthy people in the US like this as well - just bc u see things on tv or in movies doesn't mean it's true for all, but I do think we have our priorities messed up in the US and the flaunting of wealth gets a lot of attention i.e. the kardashians.
Having debt taught me I don't like it and I stopped living outside my means and worked hard to pay off debts and now I am different than I used to be, but it's certainly hard.
I was actually just at a fancy wedding last night and thought to myself what is the point to all this , unless u are the immediate family or in the wedding party all weddings are the same. But people have fancy wedding to flaunt wealth and I find that sad.

    They're smart, hardworking and cultured.
They are also proud, and have a superiority complex about themselves.
However, once they achieve greatness or success, they usually celebrate with some joy but they do not overdo it.
To them, after success it's back to work.
One reason why rich Germans don't like to show off is because they realise that no matter how rich they are, there's always someone else richer.....so what's the point of showing off.

I disagree, the are a lot of things that cannot be translated word for word. German is quite the complex language; English on the other hand, isn't.
The translation and adaptation of sayings/phrasing in this video is great.

@@jacobdaniels3246 ye but i was right that they exaggerated things so the rich people would fit a narrative that the “writer” want. There was so many so the rich people would seem overreacting like “swimming with money” (etc.)

Sometimes you have find a phrase that actually exists in English, instead of translating perfectly. Otherwise it would probably sound strange in English.
