To add regarding the j7 and other lower j-series : i guess they have not even been updated regarding dirt detect due to the lesser camera hardware, that is why there is no change / issue.
Thanks so much, I didn't know why mine was doing this. Although for mine, the dirt detection only goes off when the mop combo bin is attached, no idea why it's so selective
I assume you are using the combo j5? Using the combo bin disables dirt detect by software. It is intended by iRobot to prevent water damage I guess. homesupport.irobot.com/s/article/54001
