Now that i think about it. She could be saying that out of guilt and shame. The purple hair reminds her of the wizard and she’d rather not be confronted with that. Maybe thats what the argument with her and abigail was about, her hair?
But she continues to say Abby used to have chestnut brown hair. Lime green might just be Caroline’s natural hair color, considering it’s a game with fantasy elements. Bc of this tho I prefer the theory that Caroline is actually the wizards daughter who was just drawn back to her unknown father and Abby is his granddaughter.
My theory about Caroline is that she's definitely the one the wizard cheated on his wife (the witch) with, and the witch (who turned green from jealousy) cursed Caroline and turned her hair green. Which would explain Caroline's apparent hypocrisy in regards to Abigail's hair, Caroline didn't choose for her hair to be green! How'd she explain that to Pierre? Either she was blonde and blamed chlorine after swimming or something like that, she just told him a witch cursed her but not why (maybe he actually saw her get cursed? But didn't hear why?), or she blamed a weird batch of tea and Pierre, knowing nothing about tea, just believed her

Maybe the reason the Wizard doesn't say "Maybe Abigal might be my daughter", but istead says "A villager" might be "his child" is he was actually boning a LOT of the ladies who were lonely and looking for love at the time, and he's not sure which is which. Or maybe he IS the parent of multiple kids. Penny also said her dad left because he felt trapped in being a family man.
Can you imagine the so called biggest secret of Stardew Valley (I don't know if anyone resolved that) was that every bachelor and bachelorette born in the town are actually the Wizard's children? Could explain why there don't get married with each other.
Also I was thinking that instead of mistakenly believing that she was pregnant when they weren't that she could have tragically lost the pregnancy which would be a good reason they would still marry & go forward starting a new life in pelican town. Maybe Pierre wanted to comfort her and didn't want to just call it quites because he does love her and feels like it would be aweful to call off the wedding when she's heartbroken from losing a baby. As a result of him being supportive and dedicated to their marriage Caroline feels obligated to make it work because he stood by her & tried his best to be there for her yet she longs for a different life and ends up having an affair with the wizard & gets pregnant. She realizes Pierre would make a good dad and give the child a normal stable life so she decides not to say anything to pierre. The wizard isn't exactly good husband material as he cheated on his wife and was probably married at the time. She had a choice to make and her guilt from her affair is why she dedicates herself to trying to be a good mom & wife. Lmao I'm way too into speculating the backstories of these two this morning. Dammit leapalot you got me writing novels 😂 I love this series even if sometimes it's speculation it's still lots of fun to think about all these interesting characters. I wish we had more information on them in game.
Im thinking caroline went to the wizard to have him use his magic to try and bring back the baby she just lost, but the wizard "messed" it up and made abby. idk i think caroline having an affair with the wizard is not my CUP OF TEA 🤣
@@spacejungler8469 I like your theory too. It would be a happier story because I feel bad for Pierre and it would be nice if the wizard just added a twinge of magic while making Abby. He probably wasn't the best wizard 20+ years ago so it makes sense if he made a slight mistake and his magic rubbed off on her so she has purple hair that stays when it shouldn't and she has an adventurous heart. It would be a nice story so Pierre would still be her bio dad and Caroline didn't have an affair but the wizard still contributed to who Abigail is.
and if she miscarried it makes sense why abigail doesn’t have a sibling (considering their house is definitely large enough for another room) because they didn’t want to risk it after having a successful pregnancy
Personally, I feel like Caroline having a miscarriage would explain things a bit better (ie her taking a pregnancy test and stuff) and as a result that’d make Pierre even more enthusiastic for the other child, only for it to not be his :^). But that’s my personal opinion. I like this interpretation a lot!
That makes a lot of sense. It would explain how their personalities & focuses changed. Pierre doesn't want to face the loss, so he burys himself in work. Caroline suddenly wishes she could be that domestic mother & happily settles into that role when Abby comes around. (Distraught, alone in a strange town, & not being supported by her husband could be why she turned to the Wizard for comfort. Maybe at first it was just friendship, but then he was giving her the support her husband wasn't & things turned romantic.) Pierre struggles to face a new baby when he's still grieving the old one, which could be why they aren't very close. Caroline's desperately trying to bridge the 2, while keeping the secret, hoping they can be the nice happy family they might've been if Abby had been their first child to begin with. If Pierre does know & is hiding it, it's most likely out of shame for how he treated his wife during their loss.

I always thought the Wizard's daughter could've been Jas, since she has the purple hair and 'dead parents'. Abigail's hair not fading as much could just be a red herring, since just because she doesn't remember dyeing 'recently' it doesn't mean she hasn't. And Caroline mentions her natural 'chestnut brown hair', like Pierre's. Either way, its fun xD
I've seen this theory pretty frequently, but I'm pretty sure it's not true. Shane was friends with Jas's parents, which is why he's her godfather. I like it though! It's always fun to consider even more possibilities!
Personally my head cannon is that The Wizard is Abigail's father. Pierre being a boxer would have been exciting to Caroline. Maybe Pierre had to retire from boxing due to injury and start afresh in Stardew Valley and threw all his time and energy into the store to get himself through the loss of his boxing career. Caroline feeling neglected and bored would have explored the valley and been excited by meeting The Wizard and so the two entered into an affair. Pierre does suspect that Abigail isn't his but has aleady lost so much that he couldn't accept losing his family too and Caroline knows that Pierre is the safer option to raise a child with.
I'd love it if in an update Caroline could have her own flower shop. There's so much unused real estate on the map; there's plenty of room for the to have a shop where you could buy flower seeds from her. Maybe there could even be new flowers added to the game!
I always found Caroline’s tea scene unsettling… the whole way it’s portrayed and the music just makes it off? I’m not sure if that makes sense but it always made me think she was a little odd, especially when I first started playing stardew
That tea scene and how she always wanted to relax making me think that she's always hiding secret, running away from truth and standing on thin ice that could crumble anytime. She must be tired and really wanted to rest.... But that will never be possible, for the rest of her life.
interesting factoid, all the dialogue basically confirming the affair (depending on how you interpret it but it's kinda obvs) was added in after an update because of the popularity of this conspiracy theory 😂 _old woman voice_ back in my day, we didn't have any of that dialogue except the continuing thing about Abigail's hair
This video made me realize that I genuinely can't recall a single scene where Caroline and Pierre talk to each other. Demetrius and Robin have multiple scenes together, but the former ones have... Nothing? That kinda speaks volumes to me.
There’s another possibility you haven’t mentioned. The wizard says he and his previous wife split. It makes it pretty clear said wife was the Witch. We never see the Witch except in the air. Caroline claims to have seen her, though. The wizard says he made a mistake that turned his wife green with anger. Caroline has apparently naturally green hair. Caroline has no apparent occupation. Caroline knows an awful lot about herbs and has some unsettling greenhouse interactions. Caroline has an apparent daughter with the wizard. The Witch appears to be able to mess with memories. Nobody’s ever seen the Witch up close except the Wizard... and Caroline. Caroline IS the Witch.

At this time there WAS a Pierre and Caroline living in town... our Pierre, and Marnie’s sister Caroline, who met Pierre in the big city and moved back to her home town with him. The Wizard and Witch lived in the woods with their young daughter Abigail. At some point this Caroline has an affair with the Wizard. When she gives birth to Jas, the gig is up and the Witch goes ballistic with rage. She turns Marnie’s sister into a dove (or a similar fate), walks out on the Wizard with their daughter. Then she does some mild memory adjustment, and takes the role of ‘Caroline’. What happened to Marnie’s sister and her nebulous husband? They died, even if nobody seems sure on how. ‘Caroline’ now has her revenge... Marnie’s sister stole her husband so she’s stolen the sister’s. She lives apart from the wizard in her new life, but maintains her alter ego as the Witch to vent and have a free hand. And only the Wizard knows for sure, and the only ones who suspect are Pierre (who isn’t close to the real truth) and Shane (who has some really dark suspicions, terrible enough to drive him to drink).
Gee, that's sad. : ( I wonder how much of this kind of thing was intentional. Is one of the themes of Stardew Valley that a change in scenery doesn't mean your problems get left behind? On a sillier note, is there any explanation for why Abigail eats rocks when you give them to her as gifts?

Anyone here think that the Wizard's kid is actually Sebastian? I think it's safe to say that Abigail is truly Pierre's daughter since they both have the same natural hair color (brown), and also the same temperament. Meanwhile, the identitiy of Seb's biological father is much harder to find evidence for.
The main piece against this would be that the wizard clarifies he has a daughter, but what’s to say Sebastian isn’t trans and the wizard simply doesn’t know?
"Being a homemaker is a full-time job." If only it were as easy as a full-time job! I used to be a full-time caregiver for my mother, and that was far more difficult--and time consuming--than the job I have now. Sure, if you have no kids, it might be easier, but adding just one kid into the mix, let alone 3 or 4 (I have 3 sisters), and boy is that a difficult job. And that's to say nothing of adding "optional" parts in, such as gardening, community volunteering, or homeschooling your kids. The good news is that you get naturally promoted from worker to trainer to manager as the kids grow up and you teach them how to take care of themselves and their siblings. And the better parent you are, the faster that starts to happen and the more effective it is at reducing your workload. Honestly, there's a reason why it's not uncommon for couples to _lose_ money to have both of them working, and usually without even realizing the added expenses caused by this.
I always assumed they got married and moved to the Valley. Then she was seduced by the Wizard. Another slim possibility is Pierre and Caroline wanted to have a baby and she wasn’t getting pregnant. Maybe she was infertile or Pierre was shooting blanks. She went on a walk in the forest and met the Wizard and made a deal. He would use magic to give her a child but he would be the father. I doubt this but it is possible.
i LOVE the Abigail as the wizards daughter thing, but I ALSO really like the theory that Caroline is the wizards daughter, hence her green hair, her tea, her and Abagail carving pumpkins. Maybe Caroline knows the wizard is her father but never had any contact with him other than her occasional walks to his tower, similar to Abigail's where she just, hangs out around, trying to feel close to something she wasn't supposed to know about. Abagail probably figured it out, maybe Pierre knows too. the only person without real confirmation, being the Wizard himself

I’m a little stupid & so this might sound stupid but I guess in the end everyone(Pierre & Caroline, maybe the wizard too obviously) is a little at fault for things falling apart. Pierre growing money hungry & distant, Caroline feeling guilty & like Pierre isn’t there anymore(or something) along with not being ready, Wizard for kind of being there & I guess trying to give support to a new friend(maybe misses Jasper) but letting things get to far. Already though the Witch became as she is due to him cheating on her but kind of slightly feel more guilty for her. Wizard acts a little like a more self controlled Asgore when asking about her when you get his shit back. Kind of makes me glad the Stardew Expanded mod has them finally talk things out when Pierre confronts the wizard. I wonder how well Linus can work as a therapist since some of this wouldn’t be a good idea to tell an actual one.(Mostly the wizard & magic stuff since it seems like only small villages near magic places & adventurers are aware of this)

There's some events at certain heart levels were separately you can talk to Caroline & Abigail as both feel something is off.(Forgot what but you can piss them off by telling them to talk to their famy about it) Eventually there's a scene were Pierre is angrily confronting the wizard. Caroline & Abigail show up with Caroline admitting she cheated on Pierre & the two wanting to work things out. Don't remember much else, been a while & probably has been updated last I saw it

i feel it might be a misunderstanding in a current playthrough when talking with Caroline she does say that Abigail's natural hair color was a chestnut brown
That’s an interesting theory of what the infamous ‘stash’ is. I always waffled between drugs (to escape his less than satisfying marriage and the stress of work) and adult novelties (because there’s no passion in his relationship with Caroline). Knowing the timing would help a lot- when he started becoming a workaholic, when the incident between the Wizard and Caroline occurred, if there was any love between any of the parties involved… knowing what happened when would help know the motives and contexts for the events to follow.
So from what I see there are 4 candidates for the Wizards kid assuming as he states there is one. Abigail (most likely) - Based on Caroline's comments of 'walks' and knowing what the tower is, Abigail's hair colour issue, the fact when annoyed her sprite is the ONLY one whose eyes actually change colour, her interests and general outsider status. Emily - Based on her own seemingly links to magic, Haley's comment on them not feeling like sisters and the lack of parents around to get any real gauge on their appearance. Seb - Hair colour only, however Robin had him in her first marriage, the wizard was married to the witch, while they both could have cheated (and some implications that maybe Marnie is not the only one Lewis is seeing, hence the keep things quiet) there seems to be no mention of the wizard or anything supernatural there. Seb is a stretch as best. Jas - Only again based on hair colour, Shane mentions knowing her parents and they lived in the city, there is no real link or otherwise anything that puts the wizard and Jas together. This is mostly based on multiple factors such as hair colour, proximity and interests though from everything in game, Abi is the one with the real claim and Emily a possible. Seb and Jas are just no.

I hated Pierre, but now it's less of a "oh my god he raised the seed prices what a douche" and more of a "this guy has so much depth but is so dislikable in his traits that I feel like I'm in a film." No doubt man, I'm enjoying the game a crapton more now that I've gotten some insight into it.
I'm not a big fan of the "Abigail is the wizard's daughter" theory just simply because I couldn't see Caroline either A: Having an affair, even if she was in a loveless marriage or B: Was already pregnant before getting with Pierre and lied to him to make him think the baby was his. "Oh we must have gotten pregnant the first time we did it" *Wink wink* "Oh the baby, despite being full term size, MUST be premature" *nudge nudge*
2:10 i think a single event could be emotional neglect, you do have bursts of rages and sadness at times but you remain neutral. i also think pierre could be neglected because with emotional neglect you focus on things that aren’t your emotions. Also i do think pirerre realized he wasn’t responsible for people’s happiness so he just stopped caring about other people. ( ie he talks about the shop most of the time) NOTE: i’m not saying that his trauma excuses pierre from being a good person.
I have a different view on the Wizard and Abigail. Yes I do think she's the Wizard's daughter but not in the traditional sense. I don't think the Wizard and Caroline had an actual affair, I think they were just good friends but the Wizard, being a magic being, conceived a child with her via magic or else she magically transformed into his daughter at a later date, while being the biological child of Pierre. My reasoning for this is the dialogue where the Wizard tells you he suspects one of the locals is his daughter he says "I could be mistaken... It's rare, but it does happen" which to me suggests he knows there's a possibility of magic playing a part, rather than the obvious if they were having a physical affair every man on earth knows there's always a chance of becoming a father. He probably thought nothing of it until years later while observing the villagers looking for an apprentice he noticed Abigail having unusual interest in the occult and the magical change in her hair colour (she states she was born with chestnut hair like Pierres) Once the Witch found out about his friendship and probable feelings for Caroline, since it did result in a child magically it must have been powerful, she fell into a rage and the rest is history.
I've seen this a few times! I still think it's the old fashioned way. In my mind it's like this: You can still get pregnant even if you're correctly using birth control. "Rare, but it does happen." But there is a lot of magic at play in this universe!

I just watched a video of a person getting Close to the whole family even the wizard, I'm not sure if it was a mod but there was a event where the family were gathered at the tower , that's where the wizard told pieree about Abigail being his child, there's an option where the couple forgives eachother but I'm not sure if it's actually in the game
Just dropping a quick comment to say that I've recently stumbled upon these videos, and found them thoroughly entertaining, and a reminder of one of the reasons I enjoy Stardew so much. As I've seen said repeatedly in your comments sections, it seems like a normal farm sim on the surface, but you dig deeper and there's a lot of mystery and drama, NPCS aren't just there to fulfill their in game function, they have flaws and issues and it makes them all feel more human. Great content, and looking forward to seeing what else you make.

Abigail has purple hair that she dyed a long time ago and never redyed. Now she has permanently purple hair. Definitely think Abigail is the wizard's daughter

What you're saying makes sense, even if it's not 101% exactly what happened in the game's background, and if it's true... then I dunno, Pierre tries his hardest, he really did, but in the process, he became so absorbed in his work that profit... might be his coping mechanism. Maybe he feels that he wasn't a good enough partner. Maybe he has tied his self worth to his success, in the Hopes of proving that he's a good partner, to try and keep the family together...
But Caroline said time to time that Abigail would look prettier with her NATURAL hair, which is supposed to be brown like Pierre (she said it, it's not a speculation). So her purple hair isn't natural
Yes! She does say that. And Abigail asks what color she should dye it next. So we know that it's not permanent, but she also talks about how it never seems to fade...
She probably says that to convince the farmer and Abigail that her hair is brown, but Abigail says herself that she's only dyed her hair once and it stayed purple
This feels stupid but maybe it use to be brown but as she got older it turned purple.(She probably believes thanks to this that maybe she dyed it at one point) Kind of like how as people grown into their powers or whatever it could cause physical changes. It’s stupid but it’s a thought

All of my questions get answered and you have such a wonderful demeanor. I hope you continue to make these kinds of videos. They’re truly wonderful. :) I can’t help but wonder though if one day we may perhaps get more information on characters like Sandy. I think a video on her would be difficult to make but I’d honestly love to see that if you ever find the motivation to investigate her more deeply like you have with Caroline, making such accurate inferences and speculations on where and what determined choices Caroline may have made. So here's my theory... hear me out on this because it's taking similar pieces of the story but interpreting them wildly differently. Caroline did not cheat on Pierre with the Wizard, and Abigail is not the Wizard's biological daughter... she is his granddaughter! I think that the Wizard's mistake happened a long time ago, and that the Witch did not find out immediately but always suspected something. That Caroline is actually the Wizard's daughter from that mistake and that her naturally green hair is also indicative of her connection with magic, only she got more of an affinity for the forest magic rather than the purple arcane stuff and it's because of her affinity for growing plants and love of tea. I would wager that Caroline wouldn't be privy to the information if she was the Wizard's daughter, he might not be 100% sure himself but I think he's just not being completely forward with you when he says he only "thinks" he has a daughter. I think that the Wizard spending time with Caroline earlier was him attempting to reconnect with his secret daughter, mistaken as some sort of unfaithful tryst! But when the Witch who was already suspicious of the Wizard from before was arguing with the Wizard because their relationship had become strained due to his untrustworthiness, Caroline showing up allowed the Witch to recognize that she must surely be the Wizard's daughter due to detecting the nascent magical potential within her and finally saw the evidence of his betrayal, triggering her rage. What do you think? If this were the case it would vindicate Caroline's family struggles as simply difficulty maintaining a relationship with someone like Pierre and as typical parent troubles dealing with a rebellious child with Abigail. It also means that the person the Wizard cheated on his wife with was not somebody we actually know, as Caroline is not exactly forthcoming about his own parentage as it is never really relevant to smalltalk. It also makes the Wizard's relationship with Caroline more complex as he's not dealing with just the fallout of his mistakes but also trying to make up for them. Pierre suspecting that Abigail might not be his daughter is more a red herring then, and just a traditional father not understanding how his daughter is so unlike him.
To be honest I always thought Abi's purple hair is part of her goth/emo style choices.She being Caroline and the wizard's daughter is such a good theory and it adds much more dimension to Pierre and Caroline's characters and their domestic relationship.The fact that the most basic and bland couple in the valley can have such a background story tells a lot about the game's character design.I love that it's so real yet somewhat wholesome in a way that almost seems forgiving.Everyone deserve to have a redemption arc.So good.
Abi's purple hair is actually dyed by her choice, like you thought. In dialogue she explains however that the dye does not need maintanence for some reason she doesn't understand; in this theory that is explained either as a magical side effect of the wizard's genes or as a spell that the wizard casts on her, whether for Abi's convenience or to allow some kind of connection between the two. Given the wizard's dialogue only specifying suspicion that a local is his daughter, I suspect the former to be the case as a(with this level of uncertainty it is unlikely the wizard would cast a spell to impact Abi and b(this hair dye weirdness is a strong reason to suspect a connection between the two, and it or another trait more obvious to the wizard could be his reason for suspicion.
Pierre's stash would logically have to be something he would be motivated to keep, even after the farmer discovers it. If he was intercepting letters from his wife's ex lover, wouldn't he just burn them? The porn/drugs/things from his mistress make more sense as something he'd want to keep because it serves a purpose for him.
He does seem like he wants to just move his stash. But if you had been holding onto that info for that long, wouldn't you keep it? Maybe he figured Abigail deserves to know eventually, but he hasn't been able to handle what it will mean for their family when he tells her. Don't get me wrong, I'm not delusional. I know all of this is pretty silly and quite the stretch! The music really doesn't support earth shattering discoveries. I'm just stringing it along for fun. :)
I don't really feel like this theory works but it is fun 😂. I think it would be odd for Caroline to cheat especially because she seems to still care for her husband alot and still really wants his attention even after like 20 years of being married. And even Abigail admitted to dying her hair. I think it's possible that she could have used a magic hair dye. I personally think Emily is his daughter she looks more like him and not at all like her sister and she seems to have magic as well.
I'd rather have fun than be accurate anyway! But Abigail does say that she's not sure why her hair won't turn back from purple. Maybe it's magic hair dye... Maybe it's... Her bloodline! Lol.
Yes! Caroline talks about Abigail looking nice with her natural hair color. However, Abigail talks about how she can't remember the last time she dyed it. Which is the part I was trying to reference. She says: “I can't even remember the last time I dyed my hair... I swear, it never fades from this color...” When you're married with high hearts.
Maybe I’m just an awful person who wants to ruin (fictional) marriages, but I do think it’d be super fun if you could steal certain already-married characters away from their spouses and get them to live on the farm with you. Like Idk if it would break certain routines or anything but I personally think that all the characters should be able to be romanced (or at least made roommates) even if I do think they should be a lot harder than the other bachelorettes and bachelors. Plus giving certain characters away from their lowkey unhappy seeming lives would be nice.

I agree! That's a big part as to why I hate knowing details like this in the game- I can't do anything about them! It just makes me not care for the characters, truthfully. If the farmer could cause a resolution/etc then it would be a different ballpark. But as it is, I really can't say I like Caroline or Pierre, even though this video does make a compelling case.

Shane keeps being an alcoholic, Caroline and Pierre never fix their communication issues. Sebastian doesn't really get along with his stepfather in the end. BUT there are also so many amazing details about the game and the writing on most characters is amazing
@@grantmyth9677 I agree. Stardew Valley is my favorite game ever, even with the nitpicks I do have. Oh, don't get me started on Sebastian's relationship with Demetrius! He's the bachelor I always marry in my save files, and the first time I realized Demetrius has NO dialogue for Sebastian, I was genuinely livid. Especially since it's obvious Demetrius had been his stepfather since he was a KID. I always wished that marrying Sebastian would trigger a cutscene where you can confront Demetrius for how he treated him, because I would absolutely love to put that man in his place.
Okay, so… english isn’t my first language so I’m not a 100% sure on this… When you meet Caroline for the very first time, she says something along the lines of, “Hi! My husband runs the general store. And have you met my daughter Abigail?” I always thought it was a bit strange to call Abigail MY daughter instead of OUR daughter, especially since she mentioned her husband right before that. Maybe she subconsciously let slip that Abigail is only hers, and not Pierre’s and hers? idk maybe english speakers refer to their children as ‘my children’ and not ‘our children,’(despite both parents being present) and I’m looking too much into an insignificant word. btw I ran into your channel a few weeks ago and love your sdv content! keep it up!

I've seen this a few times! I still think it's the old fashioned way. In my mind it's like this: You can still get pregnant even if you're correctly using birth control. "It's rare, but it does happen." But there is a lot of magic at play in this universe, so it could be magic! And magic is always more fun than failed birth control...

My favourite thing about Caroline is that dialogue she has where she says "wouldn't Abigail look better with her natural hair colour?" Meanwhile her hair is lime green

My theory about Caroline is that she's definitely the one the wizard cheated on his wife (the witch) with, and the witch (who turned green from jealousy) cursed Caroline and turned her hair green. Which would explain Caroline's apparent hypocrisy in regards to Abigail's hair, Caroline didn't choose for her hair to be green!
How'd she explain that to Pierre? Either she was blonde and blamed chlorine after swimming or something like that, she just told him a witch cursed her but not why (maybe he actually saw her get cursed? But didn't hear why?), or she blamed a weird batch of tea and Pierre, knowing nothing about tea, just believed her

Or maybe he IS the parent of multiple kids. Penny also said her dad left because he felt trapped in being a family man.

Also I was thinking that instead of mistakenly believing that she was pregnant when they weren't that she could have tragically lost the pregnancy which would be a good reason they would still marry & go forward starting a new life in pelican town. Maybe Pierre wanted to comfort her and didn't want to just call it quites because he does love her and feels like it would be aweful to call off the wedding when she's heartbroken from losing a baby. As a result of him being supportive and dedicated to their marriage Caroline feels obligated to make it work because he stood by her & tried his best to be there for her yet she longs for a different life and ends up having an affair with the wizard & gets pregnant. She realizes Pierre would make a good dad and give the child a normal stable life so she decides not to say anything to pierre. The wizard isn't exactly good husband material as he cheated on his wife and was probably married at the time. She had a choice to make and her guilt from her affair is why she dedicates herself to trying to be a good mom & wife.

@@spacejungler8469 I like your theory too. It would be a happier story because I feel bad for Pierre and it would be nice if the wizard just added a twinge of magic while making Abby. He probably wasn't the best wizard 20+ years ago so it makes sense if he made a slight mistake and his magic rubbed off on her so she has purple hair that stays when it shouldn't and she has an adventurous heart. It would be a nice story so Pierre would still be her bio dad and Caroline didn't have an affair but the wizard still contributed to who Abigail is.

and if she miscarried it makes sense why abigail doesn’t have a sibling (considering their house is definitely large enough for another room) because they didn’t want to risk it after having a successful pregnancy
Personally, I feel like Caroline having a miscarriage would explain things a bit better (ie her taking a pregnancy test and stuff) and as a result that’d make Pierre even more enthusiastic for the other child, only for it to not be his :^). But that’s my personal opinion. I like this interpretation a lot!
That makes a lot of sense. It would explain how their personalities & focuses changed. Pierre doesn't want to face the loss, so he burys himself in work. Caroline suddenly wishes she could be that domestic mother & happily settles into that role when Abby comes around. (Distraught, alone in a strange town, & not being supported by her husband could be why she turned to the Wizard for comfort. Maybe at first it was just friendship, but then he was giving her the support her husband wasn't & things turned romantic.) Pierre struggles to face a new baby when he's still grieving the old one, which could be why they aren't very close. Caroline's desperately trying to bridge the 2, while keeping the secret, hoping they can be the nice happy family they might've been if Abby had been their first child to begin with. If Pierre does know & is hiding it, it's most likely out of shame for how he treated his wife during their loss.

I always thought the Wizard's daughter could've been Jas, since she has the purple hair and 'dead parents'. Abigail's hair not fading as much could just be a red herring, since just because she doesn't remember dyeing 'recently' it doesn't mean she hasn't. And Caroline mentions her natural 'chestnut brown hair', like Pierre's.

Personally my head cannon is that The Wizard is Abigail's father.
Pierre being a boxer would have been exciting to Caroline. Maybe Pierre had to retire from boxing due to injury and start afresh in Stardew Valley and threw all his time and energy into the store to get himself through the loss of his boxing career.
Caroline feeling neglected and bored would have explored the valley and been excited by meeting The Wizard and so the two entered into an affair.
Pierre does suspect that Abigail isn't his but has aleady lost so much that he couldn't accept losing his family too and Caroline knows that Pierre is the safer option to raise a child with.
I'd love it if in an update Caroline could have her own flower shop. There's so much unused real estate on the map; there's plenty of room for the to have a shop where you could buy flower seeds from her. Maybe there could even be new flowers added to the game!
I always found Caroline’s tea scene unsettling… the whole way it’s portrayed and the music just makes it off? I’m not sure if that makes sense but it always made me think she was a little odd, especially when I first started playing stardew
That tea scene and how she always wanted to relax making me think that she's always hiding secret, running away from truth and standing on thin ice that could crumble anytime.
She must be tired and really wanted to rest.... But that will never be possible, for the rest of her life.

This video made me realize that I genuinely can't recall a single scene where Caroline and Pierre talk to each other. Demetrius and Robin have multiple scenes together, but the former ones have... Nothing? That kinda speaks volumes to me.
I'm pretty sure the scars won't heal because he won't let them. They defined a point in his life, and were one of the catalysts for his bond.

The wizard says he and his previous wife split. It makes it pretty clear said wife was the Witch. We never see the Witch except in the air. Caroline claims to have seen her, though. The wizard says he made a mistake that turned his wife green with anger.
Caroline has apparently naturally green hair. Caroline has no apparent occupation. Caroline knows an awful lot about herbs and has some unsettling greenhouse interactions. Caroline has an apparent daughter with the wizard. The Witch appears to be able to mess with memories. Nobody’s ever seen the Witch up close except the Wizard... and Caroline.
Caroline IS the Witch.

At this time there WAS a Pierre and Caroline living in town... our Pierre, and Marnie’s sister Caroline, who met Pierre in the big city and moved back to her home town with him. The Wizard and Witch lived in the woods with their young daughter Abigail.
At some point this Caroline has an affair with the Wizard. When she gives birth to Jas, the gig is up and the Witch goes ballistic with rage. She turns Marnie’s sister into a dove (or a similar fate), walks out on the Wizard with their daughter. Then she does some mild memory adjustment, and takes the role of ‘Caroline’. What happened to Marnie’s sister and her nebulous husband? They died, even if nobody seems sure on how.
‘Caroline’ now has her revenge... Marnie’s sister stole her husband so she’s stolen the sister’s. She lives apart from the wizard in her new life, but maintains her alter ego as the Witch to vent and have a free hand. And only the Wizard knows for sure, and the only ones who suspect are Pierre (who isn’t close to the real truth) and Shane (who has some really dark suspicions, terrible enough to drive him to drink).

Anyone here think that the Wizard's kid is actually Sebastian? I think it's safe to say that Abigail is truly Pierre's daughter since they both have the same natural hair color (brown), and also the same temperament. Meanwhile, the identitiy of Seb's biological father is much harder to find evidence for.
The main piece against this would be that the wizard clarifies he has a daughter, but what’s to say Sebastian isn’t trans and the wizard simply doesn’t know?

If only it were as easy as a full-time job! I used to be a full-time caregiver for my mother, and that was far more difficult--and time consuming--than the job I have now. Sure, if you have no kids, it might be easier, but adding just one kid into the mix, let alone 3 or 4 (I have 3 sisters), and boy is that a difficult job. And that's to say nothing of adding "optional" parts in, such as gardening, community volunteering, or homeschooling your kids. The good news is that you get naturally promoted from worker to trainer to manager as the kids grow up and you teach them how to take care of themselves and their siblings. And the better parent you are, the faster that starts to happen and the more effective it is at reducing your workload.
Honestly, there's a reason why it's not uncommon for couples to _lose_ money to have both of them working, and usually without even realizing the added expenses caused by this.

I always assumed they got married and moved to the Valley. Then she was seduced by the Wizard.
Another slim possibility is Pierre and Caroline wanted to have a baby and she wasn’t getting pregnant. Maybe she was infertile or Pierre was shooting blanks. She went on a walk in the forest and met the Wizard and made a deal. He would use magic to give her a child but he would be the father. I doubt this but it is possible.
i LOVE the Abigail as the wizards daughter thing, but I ALSO really like the theory that Caroline is the wizards daughter, hence her green hair, her tea, her and Abagail carving pumpkins. Maybe Caroline knows the wizard is her father but never had any contact with him other than her occasional walks to his tower, similar to Abigail's where she just, hangs out around, trying to feel close to something she wasn't supposed to know about. Abagail probably figured it out, maybe Pierre knows too. the only person without real confirmation, being the Wizard himself

I’m a little stupid & so this might sound stupid but I guess in the end everyone(Pierre & Caroline, maybe the wizard too obviously) is a little at fault for things falling apart.
Pierre growing money hungry & distant, Caroline feeling guilty & like Pierre isn’t there anymore(or something) along with not being ready, Wizard for kind of being there & I guess trying to give support to a new friend(maybe misses Jasper) but letting things get to far.
Already though the Witch became as she is due to him cheating on her but kind of slightly feel more guilty for her. Wizard acts a little like a more self controlled Asgore when asking about her when you get his shit back.
Kind of makes me glad the Stardew Expanded mod has them finally talk things out when Pierre confronts the wizard. I wonder how well Linus can work as a therapist since some of this wouldn’t be a good idea to tell an actual one.(Mostly the wizard & magic stuff since it seems like only small villages near magic places & adventurers are aware of this)

@@Leapalot I don't play it either just found a video about it from DangerouslyFunny. There's some events at certain heart levels were separately you can talk to Caroline & Abigail as both feel something is off.(Forgot what but you can piss them off by telling them to talk to their famy about it)
Eventually there's a scene were Pierre is angrily confronting the wizard. Caroline & Abigail show up with Caroline admitting she cheated on Pierre & the two wanting to work things out.

That’s an interesting theory of what the infamous ‘stash’ is. I always waffled between drugs (to escape his less than satisfying marriage and the stress of work) and adult novelties (because there’s no passion in his relationship with Caroline).
Knowing the timing would help a lot- when he started becoming a workaholic, when the incident between the Wizard and Caroline occurred, if there was any love between any of the parties involved… knowing what happened when would help know the motives and contexts for the events to follow.

So from what I see there are 4 candidates for the Wizards kid assuming as he states there is one.
Abigail (most likely) - Based on Caroline's comments of 'walks' and knowing what the tower is, Abigail's hair colour issue, the fact when annoyed her sprite is the ONLY one whose eyes actually change colour, her interests and general outsider status.
Emily - Based on her own seemingly links to magic, Haley's comment on them not feeling like sisters and the lack of parents around to get any real gauge on their appearance.
Seb - Hair colour only, however Robin had him in her first marriage, the wizard was married to the witch, while they both could have cheated (and some implications that maybe Marnie is not the only one Lewis is seeing, hence the keep things quiet) there seems to be no mention of the wizard or anything supernatural there. Seb is a stretch as best.
Jas - Only again based on hair colour, Shane mentions knowing her parents and they lived in the city, there is no real link or otherwise anything that puts the wizard and Jas together.
This is mostly based on multiple factors such as hair colour, proximity and interests though from everything in game, Abi is the one with the real claim and Emily a possible. Seb and Jas are just no.

I hated Pierre, but now it's less of a "oh my god he raised the seed prices what a douche" and more of a "this guy has so much depth but is so dislikable in his traits that I feel like I'm in a film." No doubt man, I'm enjoying the game a crapton more now that I've gotten some insight into it.

A: Having an affair, even if she was in a loveless marriage
or
B: Was already pregnant before getting with Pierre and lied to him to make him think the baby was his. "Oh we must have gotten pregnant the first time we did it" *Wink wink* "Oh the baby, despite being full term size, MUST be premature" *nudge nudge*
2:10 i think a single event could be emotional neglect, you do have bursts of rages and sadness at times but you remain neutral.
i also think pierre could be neglected because with emotional neglect you focus on things that aren’t your emotions. Also i do think pirerre realized he wasn’t responsible for people’s happiness so he just stopped caring about other people. ( ie he talks about the shop most of the time)
NOTE: i’m not saying that his trauma excuses pierre from being a good person.
with his confidence: it’s still the realization that he doesn’t have to carry everyone’s emotions
I have a different view on the Wizard and Abigail. Yes I do think she's the Wizard's daughter but not in the traditional sense. I don't think the Wizard and Caroline had an actual affair, I think they were just good friends but the Wizard, being a magic being, conceived a child with her via magic or else she magically transformed into his daughter at a later date, while being the biological child of Pierre. My reasoning for this is the dialogue where the Wizard tells you he suspects one of the locals is his daughter he says "I could be mistaken... It's rare, but it does happen" which to me suggests he knows there's a possibility of magic playing a part, rather than the obvious if they were having a physical affair every man on earth knows there's always a chance of becoming a father. He probably thought nothing of it until years later while observing the villagers looking for an apprentice he noticed Abigail having unusual interest in the occult and the magical change in her hair colour (she states she was born with chestnut hair like Pierres) Once the Witch found out about his friendship and probable feelings for Caroline, since it did result in a child magically it must have been powerful, she fell into a rage and the rest is history.
I've seen this a few times! I still think it's the old fashioned way. In my mind it's like this: You can still get pregnant even if you're correctly using birth control. "Rare, but it does happen." But there is a lot of magic at play in this universe!

I just watched a video of a person getting Close to the whole family even the wizard, I'm not sure if it was a mod but there was a event where the family were gathered at the tower , that's where the wizard told pieree about Abigail being his child, there's an option where the couple forgives eachother but I'm not sure if it's actually in the game
Just dropping a quick comment to say that I've recently stumbled upon these videos, and found them thoroughly entertaining, and a reminder of one of the reasons I enjoy Stardew so much. As I've seen said repeatedly in your comments sections, it seems like a normal farm sim on the surface, but you dig deeper and there's a lot of mystery and drama, NPCS aren't just there to fulfill their in game function, they have flaws and issues and it makes them all feel more human.

Abigail has purple hair that she dyed a long time ago and never redyed. Now she has permanently purple hair. Definitely think Abigail is the wizard's daughter

What you're saying makes sense, even if it's not 101% exactly what happened in the game's background, and if it's true... then I dunno, Pierre tries his hardest, he really did, but in the process, he became so absorbed in his work that profit... might be his coping mechanism. Maybe he feels that he wasn't a good enough partner. Maybe he has tied his self worth to his success, in the Hopes of proving that he's a good partner, to try and keep the family together...

But Caroline said time to time that Abigail would look prettier with her NATURAL hair, which is supposed to be brown like Pierre (she said it, it's not a speculation). So her purple hair isn't natural
Yes! She does say that. And Abigail asks what color she should dye it next. So we know that it's not permanent, but she also talks about how it never seems to fade...
She probably says that to convince the farmer and Abigail that her hair is brown, but Abigail says herself that she's only dyed her hair once and it stayed purple
Yes but it was also mentioned that after she dyed her hair purple they've stayed that purple color since then,which is totally not normal.
This feels stupid but maybe it use to be brown but as she got older it turned purple.(She probably believes thanks to this that maybe she dyed it at one point) Kind of like how as people grown into their powers or whatever it could cause physical changes.

I can’t help but wonder though if one day we may perhaps get more information on characters like Sandy. I think a video on her would be difficult to make but I’d honestly love to see that if you ever find the motivation to investigate her more deeply like you have with Caroline, making such accurate inferences and speculations on where and what determined choices Caroline may have made. But this is only a comment, so no need to take it into consideration.

So here's my theory... hear me out on this because it's taking similar pieces of the story but interpreting them wildly differently.
Caroline did not cheat on Pierre with the Wizard, and Abigail is not the Wizard's biological daughter... she is his granddaughter!
I think that the Wizard's mistake happened a long time ago, and that the Witch did not find out immediately but always suspected something. That Caroline is actually the Wizard's daughter from that mistake and that her naturally green hair is also indicative of her connection with magic, only she got more of an affinity for the forest magic rather than the purple arcane stuff and it's because of her affinity for growing plants and love of tea. I would wager that Caroline wouldn't be privy to the information if she was the Wizard's daughter, he might not be 100% sure himself but I think he's just not being completely forward with you when he says he only "thinks" he has a daughter. I think that the Wizard spending time with Caroline earlier was him attempting to reconnect with his secret daughter, mistaken as some sort of unfaithful tryst! But when the Witch who was already suspicious of the Wizard from before was arguing with the Wizard because their relationship had become strained due to his untrustworthiness, Caroline showing up allowed the Witch to recognize that she must surely be the Wizard's daughter due to detecting the nascent magical potential within her and finally saw the evidence of his betrayal, triggering her rage.
What do you think? If this were the case it would vindicate Caroline's family struggles as simply difficulty maintaining a relationship with someone like Pierre and as typical parent troubles dealing with a rebellious child with Abigail. It also means that the person the Wizard cheated on his wife with was not somebody we actually know, as Caroline is not exactly forthcoming about his own parentage as it is never really relevant to smalltalk. It also makes the Wizard's relationship with Caroline more complex as he's not dealing with just the fallout of his mistakes but also trying to make up for them. Pierre suspecting that Abigail might not be his daughter is more a red herring then, and just a traditional father not understanding how his daughter is so unlike him.
I iike that this theory shifts the narrative! I could definitely see this being possible.
To be honest I always thought Abi's purple hair is part of her goth/emo style choices.She being Caroline and the wizard's daughter is such a good theory and it adds much more dimension to Pierre and Caroline's characters and their domestic relationship.The fact that the most basic and bland couple in the valley can have such a background story tells a lot about the game's character design.I love that it's so real yet somewhat wholesome in a way that almost seems forgiving.Everyone deserve to have a redemption arc.So good.
Abi's purple hair is actually dyed by her choice, like you thought. In dialogue she explains however that the dye does not need maintanence for some reason she doesn't understand; in this theory that is explained either as a magical side effect of the wizard's genes or as a spell that the wizard casts on her, whether for Abi's convenience or to allow some kind of connection between the two. Given the wizard's dialogue only specifying suspicion that a local is his daughter, I suspect the former to be the case as a(with this level of uncertainty it is unlikely the wizard would cast a spell to impact Abi and b(this hair dye weirdness is a strong reason to suspect a connection between the two, and it or another trait more obvious to the wizard could be his reason for suspicion.

Pierre's stash would logically have to be something he would be motivated to keep, even after the farmer discovers it. If he was intercepting letters from his wife's ex lover, wouldn't he just burn them? The porn/drugs/things from his mistress make more sense as something he'd want to keep because it serves a purpose for him.
He does seem like he wants to just move his stash. But if you had been holding onto that info for that long, wouldn't you keep it? Maybe he figured Abigail deserves to know eventually, but he hasn't been able to handle what it will mean for their family when he tells her.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not delusional. I know all of this is pretty silly and quite the stretch! The music really doesn't support earth shattering discoveries. I'm just stringing it along for fun. :)
I don't really feel like this theory works but it is fun 😂. I think it would be odd for Caroline to cheat especially because she seems to still care for her husband alot and still really wants his attention even after like 20 years of being married. And even Abigail admitted to dying her hair. I think it's possible that she could have used a magic hair dye. I personally think Emily is his daughter she looks more like him and not at all like her sister and she seems to have magic as well.
I'd rather have fun than be accurate anyway! But Abigail does say that she's not sure why her hair won't turn back from purple. Maybe it's magic hair dye... Maybe it's... Her bloodline! Lol.

Yes! Caroline talks about Abigail looking nice with her natural hair color. However, Abigail talks about how she can't remember the last time she dyed it. Which is the part I was trying to reference.
She says:
“I can't even remember the last time I dyed my hair... I swear, it never fades from this color...”

I feel like most people agree that Abigail is the Wizards kid- there’s a lot of evidence for it.
Maybe I’m just an awful person who wants to ruin (fictional) marriages, but I do think it’d be super fun if you could steal certain already-married characters away from their spouses and get them to live on the farm with you. Like Idk if it would break certain routines or anything but I personally think that all the characters should be able to be romanced (or at least made roommates) even if I do think they should be a lot harder than the other bachelorettes and bachelors. Plus giving certain characters away from their lowkey unhappy seeming lives would be nice.

I agree! That's a big part as to why I hate knowing details like this in the game- I can't do anything about them! It just makes me not care for the characters, truthfully. If the farmer could cause a resolution/etc then it would be a different ballpark. But as it is, I really can't say I like Caroline or Pierre, even though this video does make a compelling case.
@@Nina_Bleu The videogame rewards you for getting friendship with everyone... Its sad that despite that there are not many things you can fix about the NPCs. Shane keeps being an alcoholic, Caroline and Pierre never fix their communication issues. Sebastian doesn't really get along with his stepfather in the end. BUT there are also so many amazing details about the game and the writing on most characters is amazing
@@grantmyth9677 I agree. Stardew Valley is my favorite game ever, even with the nitpicks I do have. Oh, don't get me started on Sebastian's relationship with Demetrius! He's the bachelor I always marry in my save files, and the first time I realized Demetrius has NO dialogue for Sebastian, I was genuinely livid. Especially since it's obvious Demetrius had been his stepfather since he was a KID. I always wished that marrying Sebastian would trigger a cutscene where you can confront Demetrius for how he treated him, because I would absolutely love to put that man in his place.

Okay, so… english isn’t my first language so I’m not a 100% sure on this… When you meet Caroline for the very first time, she says something along the lines of, “Hi! My husband runs the general store. And have you met my daughter Abigail?”
I always thought it was a bit strange to call Abigail MY daughter instead of OUR daughter, especially since she mentioned her husband right before that. Maybe she subconsciously let slip that Abigail is only hers, and not Pierre’s and hers?

my initial thought was that after moving, caroline finds out she isn't actually pregnant and is too scared to tell pierre, and so forms a relationship with the wizard in order to get pregnant. though pierre probably figures out at some point in abigail's childhood that she isn't his child.
