YouTube Shorts Just Got WAY More Useful for ALL Creators

- HUGE strategy-changing update just happened to RUclips Shorts, and it made them a LOT more useful for everyone!

UPDATE: it seems to be an option that is still rolling out for some creators. Right now it looks like it's available on Studio Desktop only (not mobile), and it appears as an option where the "Add an Endscreen" option is for a normal longform video in Studio.

Big change. I'm getting tired of people asking for where to find a full video the short came from... as no one looks at shorts descriptions (they are hard to find)

Funny you’d say that because I’m one of those who rarely goes on to investigate the whole channel or seek out extended versions of a short
1:14 the problem with this is tons of the people don't know what it does so they either get confused when they click on it or simply never click on it

I got this feature today and immediately linked my shorts to my long form videos. I wish this was present last year while my shorts were going wild
I got like 200 million views on my shorts in the past half year and people in the content always ask: "where is the full video?" Even when I pin the link for the full video, like wtf?!!!!!. RUclips viewers still wont see this link. Guarantee it. But I hope it works.

I have about 250 shorts on my channel. This will be very useful. I wish they could leave the links in the comments section at least for the creator so we can also promote our products there.

RUclips used to have a long-form video version of this feature (back then it was called "Video Replies") that had a very similar function. When it was purchased, this feature was abolished altogether. I hope this new feature will actually last for quite a while (as adding the links can be really time consuming).

It's a brilliant feature, I have just uploaded a RUclips short to advertise a long form Blender tutorial on my channel. I just edited the RUclips short description to add a link to the tutorial, but it doesn't seem to be working at the moment. Really looking forward to this feature being rolled out, it's going to be really helpful.

FYI: I released a short yesterday and added a link to a related long form video. The short received 4.3k views, 8 new subs and 0 (ZERO) clicks on the link to the long form video.
I prepared more shorts with links to long form video this week, but so far, this doesn't seem to be working at all.
Update, if you're interested @ThatNateBlack: Another short today, 3.8k views, 10 new subs and 2 or 3 clicks on the long form video link (not sure about one, because it's classified as "Direct or unknown").
To sum it up - 8 thousand short views has lead to ~3 long form views. A 0.0375% click through rate. Is it just me or do others see similar results?
Update: I can now see the View duration for these and it's about half of what it was for previous viewers...
Another update: Today's short - 2.7k views (so far) and 4 clicks on the long form version. Terrible audience retention - less than 30 seconds!
I have some ideas about increasing the click through rate. Even significantly. But do I want it, when it could totally ruin the audience retention rate for the long video?
Last update (no idea if anybody reads this) - some good news: Today's short has received 4.5k views and generated 6 clicks to long form video. Not impressive, I know. The good news is that the audience retention rate is high today. Quite a bit higher than the total average for the video. That is encouraging, because it means that even short form consumers can convert into long form viewers if the match between the short and long video is really good.

I have a question.. how do you create that link to your long form video? I tried and I don't see any option
This is exactly what I was thinking too.
It looks like you have edit the video itself in studio, as opposed to the ‘tick an option’ style for other features.
In the desktop studio editor, on the Details page, it's on the right-hand side under Visibility and Restrictions.... labeled as Related Video

@@EyekooDrawsStuff i've tried it by adding the link in the related video tab and saved but the link to my long form video does not appear in the short. I even had a look at the short in question in an incognito tab to see if it's only visible to other viewers but it's not there. Anyone else have this problem and is there something I'm doing wrong

RUclips shorts is still early. RUclips themselves are still experimenting on how to bring a balance between the long form and short form contents. What is so challenging is how are going to convert a habitual short viewer to immediately click the link and switch to long form video? It's never impossible though. But alot has to be better.

Can you customize the link descriptions like “Full Video Click Here” or is it just the title of the linked video? Also what is the max amount of letters in link description before it gets cut off? U are amazing as always ❤

@ThatNateBlack You forgot to tell us that, while you can select (in desktop studio, content, edit) you can only select (on the right side) "Related Video" but can NOT change the words. It ONLY uses the title fo the video that you point to. So, no customization of the words next to the triangle in the lower/left of the YT short. That would be nice to change it on the short to "Click for full video!". Seems we have to say and/or use text on the short to point that out. And, with shorts already loaded up, we can't add that text. Too late. Only moving forward we can during our production/edits to new video. Thanks!
20th. Lol. I’ve seen a bump in some long forms from this new feature over the last several days. This feature does a lot to bridge the gap between shorts and longs. A handful of viral shorts have wrecked my long form CTR this last month.
I pretty much quit doing shorts because of that. I've noticed my long form videos not getting the views they were. My numbers are already low. I didn't need to make it worse. But since I cut back so did my views on the long form videos.
i dont watch shorts or even like em & a lot of people like me just want to see proper long form vids but agree the new feature is cool & its a great way to get traffic via shorts to your proper content

I was ready to start a second channel for my shorts, I think I will hold off
I've been trying this with some shorts to my long form videos (on the same topic) the last few days now. While I have had clicks, the watch time on the long form video is the worst of all traffic traffic sauces with barely over 1 min watch time. So it's not translating as good as I had hoped.
I would love it if you would do a follow up on if this seems to be working.

But if those viewers are in short attention span mode, will they skew the AWT and kill that long form video? Count me out.

Hey there, in my channel (not this one) I uploaded three shorts in three days and the results were amazing, total views about 1000. After 3 more days, I uploaded three more videos, one each day, but, the views were like 4,6 or maximum of 10,14 after few days.
I also realized for first three shorts I uploaded in that channel, I got notification here but after those three when I upload any video, I do not receive any notification or message here for that channel created a short.
