Would love an update on how things are going for you and Nolan. My son is USCGA 2026 so all of your videos have been priceless. 😊

Another Super Video Erin! I wish someone had shared this kind of stuff when I first went underway. One thing I always had with me was a small flashlight with red light in a velcro closure belt holder. I wore it all day every day. The pocket size note books also give a way to keep track of things that happened, or things you did each day underway...like a "journal" . You really have your act together!!

Prior enlisted Coast Guardsman.. back when I was on an island class, I was given no information on what to bring except the minimum requirements. This video is amazing!!!
The Navy is way different. I hope my command doesn’t see this but part of me wishes I stayed with the Coast Guard. Semper Paratus!!!
One thing to add is that you have to see on the cutter you are on what the pest control policies are. I made the mistake of letting flies and bugs get into my food stash on a port call and thus pest control policies were created 😂

As far as the clipboard and flashlight, you can check out law enforcement equipment suppliers like the Galls magazine they have smaller flashlights that clip to the front of uniform shirts or the shoulder flap and come in white or red or both. Also something called a Posse Box which is a metal opening clipboard which comes in two sizes, one with a single compartment and one with 2 compartments…these are almost indestructible.

Before I had to wear perscription eyewear all the time, I wore ESS eyewear the whole time on duty. Our Police motorcyclists were issued them, and they went on scale of issue for those serving overseas with the UN etc. Not only are they excellent sunglasses (wraparound isn't to everyone's taste though) they also come with clear and amber lenses that only take a few seconds to swap out. I'm surprised they are not on your scale of issue already. Bolle are a similar product. Both are ballistic rated, so are useful if you are on deck during a practice shoot and not already wearing goggles, or for heli-ops.
I took a bat (the winged mammal type) full force at 40mph in the face wearing them on the motorcycle and not a scratch. The Bat did not survive. Great tips. Well done. We had the fade issue with Navies also, was very obvious in a recent parade, where you could tell who spent their working day crawling into freight, and who worked from vehicles.

Sounds like you must have had a large berth to hold all of those things!

Think its is thirty laps around the flight deck per mile. The non skid is not very forgiving on a bad roll
