The McShan is a Sentinel class Fast Response Cutter. The Coast Guard always puts a lot of responsibility on even the newest Coast Guard member. A USCG craft under 65 feet long is a boat, and not officially named. Over 65 feet, it's a cutter, and named. The base is actually multiple functions. The Recruit Training Center is the largest part, and the only enlisted basic training facility in the USCG. There is also a small boat station here, which performs safety, and search and rescue functions for the cape area. The base has an interesting history, going back to WW1.
Thanks for taking us to see the Coast Guard station and training center. My sister graduated in one of the first female classes and served in the Coast Gard Reserve for six years based out of the Philadelphia area port.
Years ago the Unimac was docked there along with the USS Eagle which was a sailing vessel confiscated from Germany after WWII. The USS Eagle was a training vessel.
Great tour. I attended Boot camp at Alameda CG Island on June 26, 1967. I retired from the CG on March 1, 2006 across from where I started. I had my retirement party on the Presidential Yacht Potomac. CG refers to their vessels as cutters, not ships. Cape May is the only recruit training center for the CG. Alameda was closed in the mid 70s to become the 11th CG District HQ. SEMPER PERATIS.
I had to get my Mom to sign for me to get into the Coast Guard in September of 1968. Almeda was where I went for recruit school also. I grew up in the Coast Guard, I was as green as grass when I started. Great memories.
Nice Video, thanks again for sharing it with us.. We Love Cape May...Every year we are there on Vac, we always go to the Cape May Airport Museum🚁🛫🚀. Since 2003 and still visit it every time we go. Boys n hubby love it! We always buy Shirts n stuff at the Museum...❤😊
Growing up in Philly we used to go to the annual open house at the Philadelphia Naval Yard and the Frankford Arsenal. We got to walk on a old aircraft carrier flight deck and climb onto an old guess WW2 tank. The Coast guard have best in class ships. Read that some of them will not sink if they happen to roll over in high waves. Never saw any Coast Guard boats while in Viet Nam. 8 US Coast Guardsmen were killed in action in Nam & 59 wounded. Think they had over 40 vessels in Nam.
wasnt there a large outdoor pool there decades ago? with very tall diving boards? I have memories of my father taking us there once. and going up to the top of the diving boards. 50 years ago likely.
Hey Joey nice job with the Wildwood video archive... I saw a news article about some unrest in Wildwood this morning that led to a state of emergency being declared and the boardwalk be closed for a few hours early this a.m. and the state of emergency was lifted by 6:00 a.m.... please cover this in your Wildwood video archive in the near future what really happened there. thanks
Haha, PKP is not used on electrical fires and electrical equipment. You do know those boats are full of flammable liquids. Better to save the ship instead of worrying about 1 piece of equipment!!!!!!!!
Help us hit 100,000 subscribers! (we are only 7,200 away!)
I graduated from basic training there 37 years ago (May 5th 1987 / Y124) One of the greatest decisions of my life.
1967 for me.
@@paulhart7129 EXCELLENT! That's the year I was born! Thank you for your service👌🇺🇲

I had my boat docked, across from the CG station, for years.. They would wake me up each morning. Was happy to hear and see them!

Of course. Coasties are sailers also. Have you heard of them? The Navy has some.
Was nothing like this in September of 1978 when I volunteered and signed on the dotted line.

We had a great day there (except for the gnats). Trolley tour of the base was well done.

The Coast Guard has 2 training Centers in the US. The other one is in Petaluma CA
True. But not for recruit training.
This is one of 2 wow
Petaluma is where various schools are located. Noboot camp there/
Joey, I love all your videos, but you need to slow down your cam movements, I get dizzy trying to follow.
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🌏✝️ Isaiah 61:1 Thank you for another blessed opportunity. Thank God I will always honor my marriage and family. Kim Walker. Matthew 1:18-24

All branches of our military need to abolish the PKP extinguishers. If a piece of equipment catches on fire, a PKP will destroy it.

You reallly need to be a pretty small person too tour on board the ships
I am very short lol
Event like this is there really a need for a beer garden?
