Good vid!
Pro Tips:
1. Get a 8X8 canopy
2. Brackets, hooks and ties for the Van
3. Tie your extension cord to the power strip so you wont forget it.
4. Always plug the controller in before launching Serato.
5. Turn on both speakers and turn the volume down.
Bard lose that 50 foot cable and get something better. The wire gauge (thickness) is 14. That way too thin of wire to travel 50 feet and will not provide the proper voltage to your equipment which can cause the wire to overheat and damage your equipment. Get a wire with a gauge value of 12 or 10. The lower the gauge the thicker the wire. Pro Tip from a DJ that’s also an electrician.
I second this! Grab a roll of SO or SJ cable 12/3 and make your own. very professional looking and very tough! Don't skimp on the ends either. :)
Just upgraded all my cables my past gig . Only thing I’m pissed about is all the cheap ass extensions I bought from Amazon in the past
mike sciocchetti where can I find SO or SJ to make my own
DJ Hands-On Home Depot sells that cable by the foot or you order a spool from them or amazon. I use SO for bringing power to me. Then SJ for anything else. It’s the same cable just smaller diameter. Go check it out at the store. You will see what I mean. SJ just stands for service cord junior. It’s used in industrial applications. Very tough. Doesn’t mind the cold or the heat. Rating is really SOOW. And SJOW.
That's why I love these channels. Not just for the awesome content that we see, but also for the comments of other DJ's and pro's. Thanks Lou Primo. I'm gonna grab a few of those as well.
I use iPads all the time for ceremonies and as back up for grand entrance. They save my butt a couple times. Pro tip do not leave iPad in direct sun they over heat and takes about 10 minutes to cool down.
Dj Slick I second this. I once did an outdoor ceremony while setup in direct sunlight. The iPad worked fine for the processional but during the course of the ceremony, the iPad overheated because of the sun and I couldn’t play the recessional. I now have a small iPod available as backup. I also keep both out of the sun until the last possible moment.
Dude literally just happened to me this weekend . Had my iPad on standby not even thinking my laptop was gonna overheat . SAVED MY ASS BIG TIME . Two minutes before laptop froze up . iPad came through !!
connect the ddj 1000 to the laptop first before launching serato. This usually helps
I do this all the time
ok i will try , thank you .
As I’m watching your video i was saying the same thing plug in the controller before launching the Serato app
With controllers, you must plug them in... then turn on computer and open a fresh copy of Serato. Not always, but good practice to do this.
Agreed! I had this issue with my s9 then I realized it’s best to plug then launch Serato. Had 0 problems since
DJ Barr thanks for all of the advice and tips it's really helpful for a beginner dj like so thank you very much
What’s up Barr? I totally agree with you about outdoor weddings. I’ve done three this summer and that heat was unbearable. On the bright side, they were all fun events. This crowd was hype, and really came to party. You killed it my friend. The new is is dope too. Appreciate all you do for the DJ community.#Salute
Hey man great to see your back on the grind. Hopefully it keeps going
I’ve done plenty of outside weddings my QSC K10’s have never failed due to the built in fans.
Awesome job! Hey I had the same heat issues too!I bought those tall fans and pointed them at my turntables and lappy all night! Guess what, the moving air going through them kept the heat down. I can feel the difference just by touching the surface. I do not like out doors of this reason but it helped a lot.
I really dig your videos! Great stuff!
Hey thanks a lot for the Ceremony music thing, I usually have them spread out in my opening set, but this is much easier. Stay safe
Inspirational, keep doing your thing brodie!
Love the van. I invested in a VW Caddy van about a year ago when I could no longer load all my equipment for mobile gigs in my car. Best investment I did. Love your gig logs! Regards from hot and sunny South Africa.
Awesome bro you got the reception jumping.
Great gig log! I use the Bose S1 for cocktail he aswell. And for ceremony with iPad! Then as a monitor during reception😎👍
Also controller needs to be connected before opening up serato, biggest smallest inconvenience lol
Whenever I have an outdoor event, no matter the event or any other specifics. I ALWAYS bring my own canopy/tent. (Bonus: You can customize the canopy/tent with your company logo or colors) I also bring mini battery-powered fans for myself and sometimes my equipment.
Thomas Schultz yes , I doing same
Thank you for the tips 👍👍
Good Job Barr! that scratching intro of Yeah from Usher works every time man 🙂
Suggest you don’t wrap it, to avoid breaki ins
facts!!!! I had my van stolen and broken a second time
Yes, you can fit a lot of things there, but be shure to install a cargo separation and metalic guards for the rear windows. Then you can stack everything you can imagine inside that van. Believe me, I carry a lot more eqquipment than you in an old ram van 1500 (model 2000).
Beautiful pro master!!! Congratulations
That crowd is hype! Nice job, man.
Great video as usual !
I used to have my mackies overheat 🤬
I recently had my ipad overheat I had to play of my phone ! Always have a backup plan.
Dj Theo
Whether it's a large crowd or in this case a small gathering you keep them rockin. Good job dude.
I got last year a ford transit extended length low top- best movie have made ever for djing-love it
Showing love to the barr nation!!!!!!!
Great job my brother 💪🏾
congrats on the work truck, it was well needed and a good investment
Great bro, nice wedding!
If anything over heats, everything will sound destorted... so when done Barr, unplug everything and cover everything !!
At least you can live in your van if all goes wrong.
Barr this literally just happened to me my past gig this weekend !!! This is why I love you Barr , freaking MacBook Pro 💻 kept going out , it was 118 degrees outside .
Barr I live in AZ it gets 115, I never DJ under the sun but in the shady area it's still hot. I use a laptop cooling fan, I carry 2 small fans 1 for my controller and 1 for my yamaha mixer. and I also have a fan to cool me down. and I drink lots of H20 and eat banana, craps from being dehydrated is a killer..
11 mins!?! Damn Barr, you are the boss!
Please make a video lwalking a newbie step by step through an entire wedding. I really need to see just exactly what I’m going to be doing as a DJ. The more detailed THE BETTER!! So glad to see you back up and running.
Great job👊
I agree with you about , working outside . And i have same problem with the control Pionner DDj Sx 2 . Take a long time to connect . I'm not sure about updating my computer with Catalina, because I heard there are some issues with seratto. And until a few months ago it worked well for me. Congratulations with the van, it is very pretty.
Hey Barr, congrats on the new ride! Curious, have you ever considered the dodge grand caravan with full stow and go? Cheaper and a lot more versatile in my opinion with tons of room still...
Most of my gigs are outdoor, i use a battery operated system for ceremonies. I use a Maui 5 GO, and battery packs to run the mic and laptop, although yesterday i used my new Denon Prime GO, loved it ! I use a small facade type booth and attach small clamp on umbrellas if the sun is an issue.
Hi Barr, I use Cooling ice packs under my laptop covered by a gym towel it always works for me. Good luck for the next one.
Nice to see a Gig Log after a long, long time. I too hate doing weddings outdoors under a marquee & know exactly what you mean. With regards to background/ elevator music, i play anything from the fusion Jazz Band called Fourplay. With regards to heating of the laptop use place something under the back end of the laptop so that it is on a slant and there is maximum air flow all around the laptop.
Nice Gig Log man 🔥🔥🔥
I’ve been doing quite a few events in Palm Springs where it’s about 110 degrees. I have a fan pad & I use a cooling towel on top & then place my Mac on top. Everything stays nice & cool. Plus I have a Wind Machine that I blow on the entire set up. Stay cool..
i love watching ur vids
Man this hit me right in the feels. My last 3 events have been outside in Michigan, at venues that are NOT normally outside. Only 1 had appropriate coverage as required in our contract.
I honestly think people think it’s just us being “divas” or expecting too much, but all I want to do is deliver an exceptional event. If you can’t see your laptop, cues, stuff like that.... man it’s tough.
And YES the bugs brah, hate the bugs. At least 90 minutes day after cleaning all my equipment.
I always bring or have a 4 x4 personal canopy in my suv for outdoor events. Just in case. To me having having that personal. Or even the standard canopy is part of your equipment when it comes to outdoor events
Yup learned my lesson a couple years ago too lol. I always do my ceremonies with iPads outside if I have to stand in the sun
This just happened to me at an outdoor gig with my 2018 Macbook Pro. It was 98 outside and full humidity. None of my programs would open (bouncing icons). Ran an ipad for about an hour until the unit actually did boot. Serato took 30 mins to open, it was terrible. My seventy-two was 75% operational with some functions not responding Serato wise. I was able to get through it thankfully. I did warn the party host that I was not 100% and she did appreciate that. The next day (indoors) I booted my mac and it was back to normal, thankfully no catastrophic damage. Non the less, outdoor gigs are indeed rough and can destroy your operation limiting your full potential. Thanks for the tips!
Nice video y si muy Caliente. I dj with my daughter but anytime we do a wedding out doors I always set up a pop up tent. To keep me cool and if they say anything I always say I don't want to heat up the equipment and ruin a wedding. It's a fancy gray into white so it passes as fancy.
Contract says I have to be under cover. I also bring a little umbrella you can connect to the speaker pole. Also a high power but compact fan.
I'm in central California and it get to hot. 100-112 degree summer days. I have a claude in my contract that states that all DJ equipment has to be covered and the venue or B&G must supply it. I also use a laptop fan. Cheap from Amazon that your laptop sits on top of....
Living down here in the south I learned to carry to your own stuff for outdoor events as in fans, tents and a personal cooler to keep drinks because maaaaaannn it be hot!
Good job brother way to rock a Wedding like only you do in Jersey!!!
Coleman makes up black and red water cooler. The size is perfect that it fits under the laptop stand and I filled it with dry ice. Really helps to keep the laptop real cool.
Hey bro I experience the same issues with the DDJ-1000 SRT but I usual connects after the 2nd reconnect. As far as speakers overheating making sure they’re out of the sun or else the sound will start to crackle and distort which means it’s starting to overheat. Great content as usual!!! 👍🏾🔥
For your Ipad, get the App called GO button....it allows you build a cue list for your tracks to play after each other with a simple go button.... Just like they do in theatre shows...
Speaker don't overheat but amplifier does that's why we use passive speakers in outdoors and we just put the amplifiers inside.
Hey man, Love your content. Keep up the good work. For your DDJ 1000-SRT giving you issues with not connecting to your computer could be a MAC issue too. A buddy of mine has been experiencing the same issue and he had to take it to an apple store to get it checked out. Would love to spin alongside you someday. Cheers
Congrats on the van. Check out the loading ramp at Harbor Freight ($179). Will save your back and speed up load in/out.
I've had that connection issue with the DDJ 1000 since I purchased it. Driver updates (Mac & PC) lowered the frequency but the issue continues. It's a shame.
Providing your clients some peace of mind- exactly! Man, outdoor wedding is almost all I do in the Pacific Northwest lol
Congrats on the van!
how do you keep your computer from overheating
I use to hate the heat because of laptop fails.(I had the horrible laptop shut downs at a few weddings and that's a nightmare) I've also DJ'd at a water park every summer all summer long since 2014. I've gone through some laptops....ugh. I finally bought a stand alone and decided on the Denon Prime 4. Difficult transition for me but now that I'm use to it I will never go back. I used it 3 times a week this entire summer and it has never given me any problems. I think you would love it! And they've fixed the software bugs that it had in the beginning.
I bought a denon prime 4 and it was overheating and before I had a denon mc4000 and it never overheated on me now changed to a pioneer sz2 and I like it really recommend the denon mc4000 for beginners works very good with virtual dj and serato dj lite
Always keep a tent with you... black &/or white pop up tent. You could even get a custom pop up tent made with your logo.
Then I keep water and Gatorade then for longer events I bring a cooler
You’re my hero. Thank you
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Was back doing a wedding this last week. I do the ceremony off my ipad pro. Still have issues in the sun just like my laptop. But i keep a ryobi fan blowing directly on whatever im using Keeps it cool enough
i have been using the sampler in Serato to have a dedicated hot queue button for each song during the ceremony and entrance songs. Works great and I can use the faders on my SX2. I do use an Ipad for ceremonies where I don't have my controller.
3:44 say what you want but I love my Apache cases. I own several and in fact bought the rifle case the sell to transport 4 for my light bars.
Doing outdoor weddings/gigs here in AZ where it gets 118 degrees can be tricky. I built in a cooling fan system into the sliding top tray of the pro-x case under my laptop. Hasn't overheated yet..Fingers crossed
Do you have a video on this? I was thinking about doing the same.
Also btw, I love my new Denon Prime 4 w internal drive! The easiest, lightest main setup in 30 years! I want the Prime Go for ceremony (and it will double as a main backup!) the laptop is a 2ndary backup but stays in the backpack! I’m all about light, compact, pro systems. I’ll be doing some vids on this all soon, but would love to get your take...?
Also, along with your rags for your sweat. Pack a fan as well. It will save you from sweating all day
I feel you man. Yup im from cali an i do alot of outdoor weddings in the heat. Oh man i have to a small outdoor wedding tomorrow sunday in so cal an it going to be 117°
In GA here. I use cooling fan pad under my laptop...also use a crane stand for more airflow.
Hey Barr! Connect the controller to your laptop before opening Serato. Also check to make sure your firmware is up to date on the laptop, and you're running the latest version of Serato DJ Pro.
Get a fan pad for the laptop
You put this under the laptop and it has like 2 3 fans exstra
I'll go with this, i even use one for my own laptop at home
Dope vlog bro. They sell these platform fans powered by USB, laptop sits right on it and it prevents overheating for events like this.
Amplifiers, whether seperate for passive speakers or in active speakers, certainly can and will go into thermal protect if ran hard enough in direct sunlight. Fortunately I've never had it happen personally but I've seen it on larger rigs.
Been using fans on equipment since turntables were the only way to Dj..lol
Vornado fan covers your controller case and laptop while not looking out of place..still sexy..and quiet
I have a small fan for me and pad fan for under my laptop. I need to figure out something for when my speakers are out in the sun though. Make sure both fans are QUIET fans. For the laptop fan, there are plenty of options and most gigs I don't even need to plug it in, but it's nice to have the option for those hot days.
AZ heat is on another level. We have had 50+ days of 110 degree plus heat.
Congrats on the Ram....get a fold up 8ft ramp, it will save ur back over the yrs. Down here in SC they don't give AF were doing weddings indoors.
congrats on the truck. good to see progress
Thanks 👍
nice whip 🔥
I use an external laptop fan mat. Works like a charm.
@DJ Barr the newer Macbooks don't handle heat well AT ALL outside especially with sun. Try to avoid whenever possible. It's a known issue with them. The older Macbooks didn't have this issue but the slimmer ones do.
90% of our weddings are outdoors, for ceremonies I try to setup under a tree if possible. but for receptions, there's a good change we'll be in direct sunlight. Vinyl skins, white, can save your gear. We also use a small clip on umbrella to keep the gear out of the sun until its time to go -- at that point the sun is usually in a more manageable position. Drink all the water you can carry. Don't worry too much about stuff over heating, but pay close attention to your laptop. My DDJ-1000 has been too hot to touch but its never failed -- we are going to get a white skin kit for it. I've never had a connection issue, but I have the RB version -- it works everytime with VirtualDJ (I know, I'm probably not a real dj... LOL)
Been doing outdoor gigs in LA for yearsssss now. I run 2007 Mac book and EV speakers. Never had an issue with overheating
what controller are you using
Hey man I made my on solution for the power issue. I have the state of Texas First Solar DJ setup! Also I bought your wedding package with music and notes. Music was ok.
Nice Van Barr! I wanted to get one before the pandemic...I haven't worked since Mid March..
Hey barr whats up hermano. Hey you can make racks on the side of the van so you can hang stuff on the side and have room to walk through the middle. Goodluck with your baby
Damn! All the Amazon trucks here in Houston are Mercedes! Love the van bro!
Nice gig Barr, just a few things to check:
on your wedding planning sheets, spelling.
On your mp3's, the longer one has a clicking sound in it. I've tested it on numerous computers, HDD & thumb drives.
Can't seem to get rid of it, I'm hearing it when the music quiets down in the file.
I use a cheap 5’x5’ tent to cover my stuff on small event their like $40 I also have a 10’x10’ for my bigger set ups and a fan.
In NC outside weddings are a normal and having a laptop cooling pad is key. Also check Amazon for Liquid IV it’s packet you add to water also look for Hi-Lyte electrolyte salt caps on amazon. Both are must haves.
Cool!!!!
In Tennessee we use cooling fans under our laptops. Try doing a gig down here... it's not only hot, but VERY humid as well. Hang in there buddy. DJ Monster
Keep it up bro I hate djing outside
Cooling pad for my laptop and always bring my own easy up in case I’m not shaded

Bro you have more than enough space. As long as you organized everything you should be fine.
Bought all of your stuff it's awesome!! Glad that you are back, now waiting for a Video of the Photo Booth my friend!
Hey Barr I just got in to DJing over the last year and have my first wedding booked for next year. I bought your wedding planner and cocktail mix today. Heads up there’s a spelling error. It says “what time of dinner music would you like”. I’m assuming it’s supposed to say Type of dinner Music. Other than that the 2 mixes sound great and the questionnaire is gonna be a great help. Love the videos. They’ve been very helpful and entertaining. Keep up the good work and stay safe out there!
You’re asking for money rockin yeezys lol
Connection issues with serato. Try connecting your controller before launching serato. If that doesnt work hit the cue button on the left platter a couple times until the decks pop up on serato
i'vehad a speaker's voice coil overheat so much the resin melted off the coil , it did cost me a speaker , luckily the lifetime warrany replaced it . love rcf
Who did you contact with Rcf I haven’t had any issues with mine but did you contact them in Edison nj directly?
