Been a viewer of the channel for a while, and I randomly me your sons at village greens park the other day! One of them was on this bike, and I must say you raised some great advertisers. Congrats on 100k!!
I have a version 1 rcr. I see they added a couple upgrades. Im a big guy, so I swapped out the handlebars for 15" ape hangers, made all the difference in the world.
Finally, you got a hold of an ONYX RCR. I've had it for 2+ years already, and if you want more punch from the dig you can set the controller settings too. Just be careful it can get away from you!
I just adjusted the back brake so that i had to squeeze it pretty hard to get it to bite in this way the back braking was all regan and believe me it stopped the bike without need for a mechanical brake
@@gritred5500 I get what you're saying but I think its weird seeing a bike that expensive with a brake that cheap. I had those same xtech brakes on my voromotors roadrunner & they wore out after a few hundred miles. They became very spongy even though the pads were fine.
@@StuartGrand They're poorly bleed from the factory and its a non vented system so any amount of heat makes them very spongy and ineffective. Worse case is you get the brakes stuck on when they get too hot since the air cant vent out of it, it pushes the pistons in. I tried 4 pairs on my eagle pro only 1 caliper worked correctly and a second one after i bleed it. I went and bought decent shimano mechanical brakes instead.
I've been daily commuting on mine in LA for almost 2 years now and the brakes work great. You gotta remember the whole package is only a little over a hundred pounds and the front brake is super grippy for a vehicle that light. The rear brake is mostly just for slowing down and Regen anyway
I'm glad you guys are stating that this bike only goes 55 mph because onyx would try and say it is 60 mph. The reality is it will hit maybe 55 mph on a fresh charge and after that 50 mph is it's top speed. As the battery drains so does it's top end performance. In addition, the speedometer comes "optimistic" from the factory. Last time I checked they were still shipping these out with a basic car fuse that was between the battery and motor/controller to prevent too much power being drawn. And it is not the battery/motor/controller that can't handle it. It is the low quality/tier wiring and connections that can't handle it. They cheap out on the little things that matter because it doesn't matter how powerful your motor/battery is when the gauge of wires and connections are not properly rated. I had mine for 3k miles. It was fun. But would not recommend to anyone. My EX30 EUC will smoke that thing any day of the week and it is far more reliable.
i would say the rider being 200 pounds and them having the dirt tires instead of road play a factor. I just got an onyx recently with road tires and weigh 130 pounds and hit a gps rated 60 mph
Thanks Andrew and Jimmy! My buddy I sold my Nikola to has a really tricked out RCR. He really enjoys it but rides the Nikki more these days. I would love to have one but I think I would rather just go with a motorcycle as it would take up the same amount of space. If I am gonna make that kinda room in the garage I might as well go all the way.
Another great review Jimmy and Andrew. Thank you. Have you guys ever considered reviewing one of the Hi-Powered Cycles (HPC) Black Lightning Ebike, the Lyric Graffiti moped style Ebike or the Spark Cycleworks Bandit moped style Ebike?
@@freshlycharged that’s such a good question. There’s so much to like about each one and there are some cons as well. I really like the Lyric Graffiti because it has a powerful 2,500 watt nominal motor, great looking style points, excellent shocks and motorcycle level brakes, and the gates carbon like belt instead of a chain. And for what you get, the ability to do 38mph for even a big guy like me (6” 240lbs), you can’t beat the $3,600 price. It used to be $3,200. Look like they recently increased the price. Then you have the Sparkcycle Bandit. A true moped style Ebike because it comes stock with mirrors, turn signals front and rear, brake lights and headlights and a 2,000 watt nominal motor. You can achieve 38mph, but will need the rider to pedal assist. Big bonus, that the Lyric and HPC doesn’t have, rear shocks. Then lastly, the HPC. A wolf in sheep’s clothes. Can easily hit 45mph if you pay a little extra to upgrade to the 4,000 watt nominal motor. But man, this beast is EXPENSIVE. With upgraded battery, motor, and brakes, you’re easily looking at over $5,500! But nothing beats it’s shear power for an Ebike that weighs under 50lbs!!! My favorite m, given all that, is the Sparkcycle Bandit. If the Lyric Graffiti had rear shocks, I would easily choose that because it looks better and has more power.
The fact they are still putting pedals on E Bikes going over 50mph is ridiculous. If a cop sees you going even close to that fast your E Bike having pedals is not gonna fool him into thinking it’s street legal.
I agree. Maybe in the city no one really cares but I live in the suburbs and the cops out here are gung ho. I’m pretty sure I would get pulled over on this thing. Even with the pedals, by definition (NYS), you’re limited to 750 watts and 20mph.
@@tomm2639 correct. Onyx gives you a title to take them out of the equation. It’s up to you to do the right thing or chance it. That's actually pretty cool, I like the fact that you can ride it on the street with a tag, cops around here are a little sketchy. I received the Talaria Sting R recently, it's pretty dang awesome but not easily ridden on the street. Big news is that I'm getting a new Zero DSR 14.4 this week, pretty excited about that one.
How is your Zero? I bought a used FX 2022 with all the upgrades. Sold it four months later at a $4,000 loss because the support for my dealership and zero was horrendous. Zero is now my least favorite company I have ever been associated with, and the bike had so many issues and flaws. I have my deposit down on the Livewire Del Mar. I'm hoping Livewire is a real company, unlike zero. If you months ago 0 move its manufacturing to the Philippines and it literally liquidated its customer service department. Which makes sense. I hope your zero has been awesome for you, it's the most fun bike I've ever ridden in my life. But issue after issue, went through three different wheels and the spokes just snapped off like nothing. My bike cut out on me randomly in traffic while going 50 mph twice over the course of a few weeks. It took zero six weeks after my logs were sent in to tell me "we need photos of of your bike, to see the damage of the crash". There was no crash at all, I just wanted to know why my bike shuts down on me randomly while I'm riding. Selling that Zero for $4,000 loss was the greatest financial decision I've ever made in my life. Zero sucks. Cool product, with a lot of crappy components, and literally nonexistent customer service. zero is not a motorcycle company, they are company that makes a product and sells it. I sincerely hope they go bankrupt.
Change out that pedal sprocket for a Larger sprocket. It will be worth it. Go big front sprocket, big as you can/want. Slow Pedaling, lots of wheel turning.

I consider a true E-motorcycle a bike that can go at speeds on freeways and interstates. Onyx RCR are great on highways, streets, paths and anywhere else legal in your state.
Would not take it on a highway. It cannot do highway speeds. That 55 mph top speed is only for the first 10 minutes of riding on a fresh charge. The onyx RCR is notoriously known for leaving the factory with a speedometer that is inaccurate and telling you faster speeds than you are actually traveling at. Former owner here. Had it for 3k miles. Tons of fun. But would recommend everyone anything else to get instead of the onyx.
Had this bike for about two years. Sold it, best decision I ever made. The ONYX is a complete and utter money pit of a toy. Everything Breaks, cheap cheap cheap materials, range is an absolute joke, and their customer service is probably one of the worst I've ever experienced. You can't really call that an e-bike, that is a full on electric motorcycle :D I doubt many cops would be fooled by the fake pedals and not give you a ticket for riding an unregistered and uninsured motorcycle. Good thing they include the paperwork so you can get it registered.
That silver front sprocket is hideous looking on this bike. It's a shame that they designed a really great looking bike, and then slapped cheap parts on it. It deserves better parts at the price point it's at.
The bike looks sound but I agree the turn signals are to small and no protection and easily broken also the turn radius can be improved to by trimming down the wood cowl over the battery box it is hitting agains🎉t the back side of the triple tree where the handle bars attach and I also agree the pedals need to be larger I would also add a larger crank sprocket and maybe make it geared for upper and lower gear speeds for hill climbing
The onyx rcr has poor quality batteries. It’s too heavy and not comfortable to ride. The pedals are poorly positioned and are there for legality purposes. I rode one for 10 minutes and was glad I didn’t pull the trigger
that does not look good at all to me the features are great but it's ass ugly the range and power are amazing... but that's where it ends... a suron looks much better by comparison minus pedals
@@greenwave819 u can get pedals for surons no? Pretty sure I seen some with them. Anyways, if you’re going 40-50+ mph I don’t think that matters anyways lmao
Why do they have to ruin it with that wood grain sh#t ? I don't want to look like i purchased an ebike from a funeral home or like a pt cruiser mates with a ebike
In what state does a 50+ mile per hour ebike not require licence, registration and insurence?! What world do you live in?! And the sense of entitlement of someone thinking they can go that fast without training or financial responsibility, just because it has vestigial pedals is out the roof!
I mean, you're objectively wrong and lying. Anything with a motor exceeding 750W is considered a motorcycle, and can't be ridden on sidewalks, bike lanes, or non-motorized trails ANYWHERE in the US. They also can't be ridden on public roads with registration plus insurance. Stop breaking the law on public roads.
@@justinbogart278 I mean he's advising people to use these things in a blatantly illegal manner. Just saying a fast charger will decrease the life span of the battery and when that happens only bad things come from trying to fast charge a poor battery that can no longer handle it! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

I hate wood trim I do t understand the appeal? It always looks stupid they should make a different cover of you want to change it
It does have the option of more power within the onyx app on your phone, just have to tweak the settings
That only does faster acceleration. It won't affect top speed. I used to have one of these. Highly recommend you sell it and get a EUC.
First
If you're not first, you're last! 💪
helmet make ?
💯‼️💙
The onyx rcr has poor quality batteries. It’s too heavy and not comfortable to ride. The pedals are poorly positioned and are there for legality purposes. I rode one for 10 minutes and was glad I didn’t pull the trigger
⚡👀👀⚡
damn, y'all's speed testing road is bumpy as fuck lmao.
This is in no way am ebike stop mudding the water reviewers also the motor is a direct drive so of course its quiet.
Pedals, cranks, chain, battery, motor. Definitely checks all the boxes, it's an ebike.
that does not look good at all to me
the features are great but it's ass ugly
the range and power are amazing... but that's where it ends... a suron looks much better by comparison minus pedals
How good does a suron look when it's impounded tho? sometimes pedals help out
@@greenwave819 u can get pedals for surons no? Pretty sure I seen some with them. Anyways, if you’re going 40-50+ mph I don’t think that matters anyways lmao
You look taste
Best looking according to who hahahahaha
Me
🤑🤑🤑
Would love one of these to get to work and back but can’t afford anything at the moment 😢
REV Rides has financing with Katapult.
That’s what stopped me from getting it. And financing doesn’t mean you can afford it.
Wtf... "the best looking ebike" ????? Lmao
I don't believe FedEx can deliver any bike box undamaged.
Battery from China
Best looking? Eh... wtf
Why do they have to ruin it with that wood grain sh#t ? I don't want to look like i purchased an ebike from a funeral home or like a pt cruiser mates with a ebike
Anything that goes over 45kph/28mph is a motorcycle to me and should be licensed and insured !!!
Oh yeah made in China. Or was it assembled? Suzhou China is a colony of the US, right?
In what state does a 50+ mile per hour ebike not require licence, registration and insurence?! What world do you live in?! And the sense of entitlement of someone thinking they can go that fast without training or financial responsibility, just because it has vestigial pedals is out the roof!
to be honest i wouldn't wish this bike to my worst enemy
I mean, you're objectively wrong and lying. Anything with a motor exceeding 750W is considered a motorcycle, and can't be ridden on sidewalks, bike lanes, or non-motorized trails ANYWHERE in the US. They also can't be ridden on public roads with registration plus insurance. Stop breaking the law on public roads.
Wrong. On many points above lol. Byeee.
I'm glad to hear that you follow traffic laws to the letter. Such a relief that you never go 1mph above the speed limit in your 3000lb death machine.
@@justinbogart278 I mean he's advising people to use these things in a blatantly illegal manner. The whole point is that they're bicycles that can be ridden like motorcycles without license/insurance/registration (which is not true and definitely illegal), and he lies to the police about the bikes being like class 2 in every single encounter video.
You can actually. Stop being a negative Nancy.
Just saying a fast charger will decrease the life span of the battery and when that happens only bad things come from trying to fast charge a poor battery that can no longer handle it! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Do you have any literature on how fast is too fast? I want to get a 3A for my 52v 21Ah but not sure if it will decrease lifespan.
5.300!!! insane i say.....
that's sale price!!
Rip off
@@shanew7361 yeah. Looks like maybe $100 worth of parts. There is not much to that bike at all.
Those are ASM= assist suicide machines
